Hi can someone who is stock on a yakju 4.2.1 please post their build.prop file? I want to stop the update notifications. 4.1.2 is running absolutely flawlessly for me.
bump
looking for the same...
I'm no expert but can't you just edit yours so it thinks it's updated?
I see this line:
ro.build.version.release=4.2
So if yours says 4.1.2, changing it to 4.2 would make the system think it's updated and you won't get notifications? I have no idea if it works that way though. Don't trust me on that...

No I've done it before and it requires a little bit more than that, there's some more specific editing required so that's why someone's build.prop might be helpful.

I like perfectly 4.1.2 but 4.2 is also tempting just to see how the new things are impelmented. From what I've read, I think I will dread this decision, but something wants me to proceed with the update. Should I do, I'll try and post the file, but it might late tomorrow.

just delete /system/etc/updatecmds/Google_generic_update.txt and you don't get update popup and it's safer and better way than build.prop editing to fake 4.2.#

Sometimes some apps may FC when build.prop is modified wrong way..
By deleting the file from that folder you don't get update notification.. You can add file back from android 4.1.2 ROM when you want it back..
Or then add mod version and change text from ro.fingerprint= Google to Samsung may work well
There you go.

Hey Guys,
Here is a little flashable file for anyone experiencing issues with your carrier names just showing up as numbers.
This issue will hopefully be fixed with later versions of MIUI but for now this is a quick easy fix.
Thanks to silverbullet1013 for the spn-conf.xml file
Update - 07/29 -
Should now work on MIUI and CM7 (maybe?)
Would something like this work for CM7? Or is there a similar zip we can use if we're on CM7?

I am currently trying to play with this. So far no luck. I even tried to replace the exisiting spn-conf.xml in insanity to yours. It replaced fine but i don't think its even looking at that file. it only looks at apn-conf.xml and that has the carrier name as bell but only displays the number. no idea why.
Why does it seem like only us Bell users are afflicted by this?

Hey BlackDino,
i am a little confused. your latest zip file has this
mount("MTD", "system", "/system");
run_program("/sbin/mount", "/dev/block/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/by-name/system", "/system");
but i don't see a system folder or file in by-name. My understanding is this runProgram script is going run the file/copy the file from by-name/system to /system? but i see no file in it. Anyway, i could be totally wrong here but thought i should let you know.

Hmmm...
Wonder if we could take that ROM, change the updater-script to match our mounting points....then we just need a kernel....
Which we have one kernel already made. Not sure if it would work though.
If anyone would help set up a build environment that would work for our kernels and roms then I will gladly help and start learning.

Well, it shouldn't take too long. It may be possible to build a CM9 Kernel for our phones using parts of the stock kernel that we have access to.
Once the JB source is released, an S3 port might actually be viable. Otherwise it's essentially just flashing a gnex image and praying something/anything works.

a CM9 kernel shouldn't be needed, just a modded kernel for our specific phone from what i believe.
We know this, but it's more of an experiment. Also, it helps work out anything we may need to do early on with the modules and drivers

Why not take this ROM, change the updater-script for our mount points, remove the flashing of the boot.img, flash ROM then flash the kernel Roman release?

why does it have to be a cm9 kernel?
to be completely honest, as soon as we get a cm9 alpha, we will see some worth while stuff! but until then. TouchWiz it iz. We will have team kang's AOKP in no time im sure. i cant wait to see wuts to come. especially since this phone is at all the major carriers and they are all basically exactly the same! should be epic.

its cake really just a pain to install it then pull it then make sure everything is right, the deodex it then package it. speaking of, do you have a copy of stock MA7 recovery so i dont have to download the entire tar file on this slow internet connection?
i suppose i'll play nice and get it out for everyone. i should have the kernels, all-in-one and the modem up in a little bit. odex/de-odex roms will have to wait until tomorrow when get home so i can upload them quickly.

This has worked wonderfully for me,
i find that it wont connect to data untill i go into the dialer and enter *#*#DATA#*#* once
so far no bugs that i can tell.......:fingers-crossed:

ill se if i can put a request for this thread to be moved, this is great work.
i'm not a dev but i can post a tutorial on how to get it working of the Sprint G2 if you would like
Im eager to try this out by the way does it have rotation issues after trying cm10.2 i have rotation issues
Issues found
Okay been running this for about a week now and this is what I found so far:
-MMS doesn't work, I receive notifications for them but never download
-Wifi and bluetooth are buggy, toggles from the Quick Settings menu tend to get stuck after 2-3 toggles and require a reboot to fix
-Dialer doesn't pick up touches sometimes
-NFC gets stuck in on position and causes massive wakelocks. I ended up disabling NFCService and Tag Service to stop the issues
-Mobile Networks Section has GSM settings in it
-Flash seems disabled in AOSP Camera app
-Rotation issues like other AOSP roms
Besides that though the ROM is surprisingly usable for being one of the few roms available for the Sprint G2, I would definitely like to see your build code since it looks 90% in working condition.

usually the culprit of not wiping. its a given that you need to wipe every time you switch roms especially from stock to custom rom.

To update official software, you need to be on stock software, unrooted, with stock recovery What version of Jelly Bean is your CleanBean ROM based on?DO NOT take any updates while rooted or on custom ROMs.
Yeah don't ever take official OTAs while rooted/on a different rom other than stock. Hell i never even take an ota for the rom that I'm on, i always do things myself to ensure everything works right. Your build.prop needs to be updated to trick the OTA update, check the developer's thread to see if he posted one for you to flash

It has all the answers to your questions regarding ota updates (he even made a guide on how to edit your build.prop yourself!)
Be careful when editing your build.prop though, I'm sure CNexus includes this in his guide but just in case, make a copy of it and store it somewhere safe like an external sd or your computer before you edit it. Good luck! Also be sure to hit that "thanks" button, i find myself thanking almost all his posts

Thank You Sevenpioverthree. I will definitely give it a look. Still learning a lot around here and learning one thing leads to learning another. Thanks again!

Please refer to this thread courtesy of CNexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209418

Can one of you post a patched version of the cleanbean ROM with the modified file? I'm afraid to modify system files myself.

I wouldn't be too afraid. Just be as careful as you can be. I believe editing the build.prop is pretty harmless so long as you keep a copy of the original somewhere. You should do it yourself! You'll feel awesome knowing you took another step and got your hands a little dirtier and have 1 less thing to have to depend on someone else for

Well we don't have to warry about that any more since my phone crashed and I forgot to backup that ROM so I'm back on cm11, but no one else had a thread answering this question so I hope it helps others.
