Thats good to hear am not the only one lol yer it is very random, never happens when switching on the screen only when switching off.
Would a software bug make this happen? because if the button was at fault surely it would also happen when switching on screen.

I doubt it has anything to do with the power button. It is software for sure. Or maybe it could even be a 3rd party app that csuses it.
Will report back if it happens again and find something new about it

Then you get no custom lock screen.
I'm in the same boat you are. I rooted my phone, but at least for the time being, I don't want to use a custom ROM. With that choice comes sacrifices. I'll likely never get a % battery mod or a custom lock screen. Life is full of choices.

then you give up the custom lockscreen without using a third party app.
im trying to root my optimus v but i just made an account and can't post in the thread i want because i need 10 posts.
for me stability of my phone is very important and custom rom doesn't really give me that feeling just yet, there is always something issues going on...
back in the days the reason why i went w/ cm7 vs stock rom is because it was cleaner, now that I have ICS its pretty clean as it comes, developer puts in his own tweaks what he feels is important (may not be important to me) and with that comes some unstable/untested code which i'm not ready to do beta testing
so i'm fine w/ stock rom and i'm loving it, of course someone may not think this way and want to go w/ cm9 nightly or some other custom rom its up to this person (who am I to tell otherwise)
i just wanted to know if maybe i missed something and it can be done with stock rom, but apparently thats not the case (or at least doesn't seems so)
I think you might want to try out one of the custom roms first. I thought that too. But these roms seem to be a whole different level of professionally coded compared to the cm7 days. Aokp to start with, then expand if necessary to paradigm etc. I think you'll be surprised, you're getting stock stability with extras.

lol.
you are the guy who did knew about rooting and stuff..
1. rom = OS a.k.a android
2. cwm = is the name of a custom recovery
3. you've just answered yourself at number 2 with this.
4. the best developers gathered under one roof which is called Cyanogenmod. They make Android OS'es. Search on google, they have a website.
5. Kernel is like the motor of the OS. Without it, the rom will not start.
6. stock means default. if it refers to stock rom it means the OS that came with your phone untouched by you in any way.
7. nandroid backup performs a backup as per the name, of your current rom.
Quick reply.
1. A ROM is the operating system of your phone... Like windows xp is to a computer. you can change this and try different ones.
2 & 3. Is a Recovery from there you can do functions that are necessary to flash ROMs Kernels and even backup your phone
4. A ROM made from the released source code from google... All Vanilla which means that it doesnt have the HTC overlay.
5. A Kernel is the underlying software that communicates with the hardware of the phone in this case
6. Stock means that it has not been modified.
7. A Nandroid is a function that is incorporated into the Recovery it allows you to backup the system in your phone so you have the possibility of recovering it at some other time.
You have a lot of reading to do... The learning curve is steep; start climbing

Probably better to point him to the original link...
Dictionary for n00b - What is.../What does ...mean?
As to the antennas, the body is metal so they have to put the antennas behind the plastic parts so that the radio signals can get through. The only solution is to change your grip so that you don't cover the bottom of the phone.

You should go root, update, and flash a custom ROM. From my experience, my One X is my first super phone after jumping over from a crappy Nokia phone.
The first day when I got my phone, I got all excited with playing around it. I've been reading lots of stuff here on XDA. It was very tempting to root in on day one, but I managed to let it stay. But immediately, the day after, I risked it all and tried to root it, even if I don't have any experiece or background on handling an Android device.
All the hardwork payed off and just this morning, I updated my phone to ARHD 7.2.0 on stock kernel. Everything feels better right now than what I had on day 1.
But in the end, it is still your choice if you want to hack your phone or not. But trust me, it's worth it.

Totally agree. I've had Android for a while now and my first few I kept stock for that reason, the OTA updates. Kept my Hero and Desire on stock. I then got a DHD and now have a One X and both of these I rooted and flashed custom ROMs and can honestly say was best decision I made. There are spme quality ROMs and developers in this community. As long as you do your research you shouldn't find it too hard, theres very good guides on here. I am also running ARHD 'cause I like the stock look but its so much smoother and quicker. Most devs are also very good at keeping up with the official updates too (If not quicker in many cases.).
Like monchee said its your choice, but personally I don't think I could have a device now without root and custom ROM!
Hope this helps

You need to unlock bootloader to get root too.
I would suggest waiting at least a couple of weeks to see if you have any defects as HTC are refusing to repair unlocked phones in many instances.

It'll be in your best interest to try them out. Any of the sense roms are great (ecliptic or any nusense). You'll find people that are lean towards one or the other...it's just personal preference. Couldn't tell ya about any aosp roms though. I'm one of the weird ones that thinks Sense is way better (and much more stable).

Battery life sense nusense by far has the best battery life. But tethering just had to much issues. Best tethering in a sense ROM is ecliptic.

AOSP - DarkSlide
Sense - Ecliptic
GPE - Joelz port
I'm switching back and forth between DS and Ecliptic.
I hear Solar Flare is pretty decent.
Just trolling....Only way to find out what is the "best" is to try them all. The "best" is subjective and depends on your usage. But everyone's replies are pretty much stating that.
I'd vote for unsense as well. Fast and solid.

If you want something a little different that's based on Sense 6, try out Bonestock or NuSenseSix.
