That's a pretty liberal use of the word! This stuff is garbage! I've been reading every post I can find on both the internet and these forums, to no avail. The problem is some of my albums have REALLY poor quality artwork. I mean god awful, looks like it's a thumbnail blown up to fit on a big screen bad. Now I have tried everything I can find to fix this. I've used Album Art Grabbers. I've cleared the data on Google Player. I've even manually moved the MP3s in question onto my computer, used my Meta-Tag Editor to FORCE them to use High-rez artwork by directly encoding it into the files themselves. But no matter what I do, nothing works. When I clear the data for google player(forcing it to re-build my library) at first my new high-rez images are there. But the spinning circle indicating Google isn't done f**king with me is still going. When it stops, my shiny new album artwork has once again been replaced by garbage!
Anyone else severely frustrated by this? I'm seriously pissed. Album art, it's one of the easiest things in the world to manage! hundreds of free players do it just fine. But the all-mighty Google can't get it right? Am I missing something or are we doomed to a life of high rez screen + Album art from 1992?
No one?
I do not have this problem. Try going to the web interface, and changing the album art on the edit album option.
Yeah my Google music purchases look great, however the ones media monkey pulled in look like garbage.

Mine looked really bad in Google Music when I first opened it, but after the update pulled for the app on day 2 they looked fine.
Mine look awful too! Either they are blown up and are EXTREMELY pixelated or its the wrong album cover! I have my music manager set to upload music from my iTunes and all of my iTunes music has HQ Album Art and are accurate. Anyone know why it does this?
I had a huge problem with artwork, I ended up having to manually enter all of my artwork on iTunes. None of the artwork iTunes pulled for me stuck to the files. It was a tedious process but works great now.
I web searched each album that had poor res art and downloaded at least 400px art and tagged it to the albums with Media Monkey. Real pain at first, but once done all look great.

I just got the tough pro 2 with TFHD and I've been trying to work on this problem all day.
I have all my music inside one folder on my SD card called "Music" all the album artwork is embedded into the MP3.
When the touchflo sees the music it takes a random album artwork from one of my songs, AND MAKES IT THE SAME FOR ALL. Its driving me nuts! Every song in my library has the same album artwork. At this point I just want to not even use the album artwork because its so frustrating.
Does anybody have any suggestions? I deleted the HTC/AudioManager_Eng/AudioManager_Eng file, and that still didnt work.
Thanks!

Try deleting all your music, doing a soft reset and then re-import your music via windows media player. Update your library via windows media player on the TP2, one more soft reset and then it should work. It helped me fix the problem.

Mate, did the same thing on mine.
The Tab Player is really a piece o junk in comparison to say, Nitrogen!
I even deleted the cache on mine after having the same issue, it then happily picked another singular album cover and ran that onto everything again. I do not think you should HAVE to run a playlist through Media Player to work properly, this is an HTC issue and with luck, may get dealt with on the WM 6.5 update.
In the meantime, use Nitrogen, truckloads beter than the TAB and Media Player and it is well supported, essentially free and WORKS really well on TP2.
Cheers
Jabberoo
I did everything and it still didnt work so here was my fix:
I set iTunes to manage my music, then dragged all my music into iTunes. Once the music made a copy into my library, I went into my Itunes music folder and all my music was in folders that corresponded to artist, and album.
Then I dragged all these folders and music into my phone and the album art worked correctly because each album had its own folder with an image.
Interesting. That is how my music is organized (wmp can organize your music files too) and I haven't had that problem so that must be the trick.
I love the Android system. I loved my Hero and I love my EVO. But it's **** like this that makes me question just how serious is Google about beating Apple because sometimes they seem to do a really half-ass job.
DISCLAIMER: I do not want to use a 3rd party music app because I should not HAVE to use a 3rd party music app. The stock app should JUST WORK.
Anyway... All my music goes through iTunes for tagging and importing album art. I do NOT use 'albumart.jpg.' I just embed the cover into the mp3 using iTunes.
So my obvious question is: why does the stock music app only show SOME of my album art????????????? Why has this not been resolved in the past how many ever years????
What's more is that not only does it not show my album art for some songs, but it shows the WRONG aka, album art from OTHER songs in some songs! For example: in song B it will show the album art from song F. Yet in iTunes, Winamp, my iPod, Windows Explorer, it shows the correct art!
If it didn't want to show any art for some I'd just say, forget it. But it drives me up a ****ing wall when it completely screws up the covers!
I don't have any albumart.jpg's or any other cover jpgs that would point to a cover! I've scanned that SD card thoroughly! I even wiped cache, dalvik-cache!
WTF?!!? This is a question and a rant in one...
And don't tell me, use MixZing or use Cubed - I know they work, I've tried them - my point is, this is the ONLY platform where little things like this are screwed up!
Telling me to use a 3rd party app to circumvent a "FEATURE" that works everywhere else is not a suggestion of a better program, it is admitting that you too believe Android is inferior and you need 3rd party apps to make it work right.
Any suggestions other than "use another app" are welcome.
Actually, this is NOT the only platform where things like this get screwed up. My gf's ipod gets album art wrong all the time, and she gets all of her music directly from itunes.
I never have this problem with my EVO, but all of my music is either from Amazon MP3 or ripped from CDs that I own.
Oh, and why are you so against using a 3rd party app? You do realize that the stock music player is just an app....right? Android isn't based around media consumption like iOS, it's more of a multi-purpose OS. YOU choose the apps you want to make the OS your own. It doesn't mean the OS is inferior. If anything it makes it BETTER.
Of course, if you like to have everything the same as everyone else, I hear Verizon has a new phone coming out on Feb. 10th that you will probably like.

I put together my own mp3 files/tags/album art myself; sometimes using iTunes if I am working on it at work. Where do you get your music from? Are you sure the information was correct for the files you were attempting to play? So far I have always seen album art for any song I was playing and I cannot ever remember seeing wrong album art. I use the stock player in cyanogenmod 6 and now 7.
How exactly are you inserting the album art in itunes? You're not just using the "get album artwork" functionality and calling it a day, are you?

Unless you use one of the scripts out there to embed it, all iTunes is creating is a metadata link. It doesn't insert anything.

My cover art got mixed up before. There are a couple free "album art grabbers" on the market that I've used, they got right. I had to use the app to clear existing album art, then hit "fetch missing art ", then let it do its thing. It was easy, and worked for me.

I've never been a fan of album art, or at least not of the way its set up on whatever.
My ipod, my evo, windows media player, etc. Its always getting flipped around. Sometimes with albums i download, they come with the cover art, and that art always gets switched with a different album.
I've gotten into the habit of just deleting all album art i find on any devices. It saves hassle. I agree, its a stupid thing, but I don't think its necessarily google's fault. Its just errors with file names, etc.

Nope, I don't do "get album artwork." I've done literally THOUSANDS of mp3s where I'd put them into an iTunes playlist and manually insert the album art through the "edit" or "get info" or whatever that menu is called. I'd say 80% of the time it works.
If I buy a song from iTunes, convert it to MP3 and put it on my EVO the album art ALWAYS works. If I have an album art-less MP3 and insert an album cover using iTunes, it only works about 80% of the time.
Anyway, this is moot now b/c I found out what the problem was. The album art was being cached on my EVO. I have 2 music folders inside my "Music" folder. I just renamed those 2 folders and the Music app now reads 97% of the album art that I've done through iTunes even old-ass MP3 from before there was album art, it works through iTunes.
Sorry to resurrect an old thread.
I am severely anal about my music collection. I have around 17000 songs in it over years of ripping and way too much money spent on Amazon MP3 . I use Media Monkey to make sure all my album art is correct, everything is tagged correctly, all files are named correctly. I even deleted all images for album art and had media monkey add them to the mp3 tags themselves. Believe me it's all fine in the various DLNA/uPnP apps I use in Android, iPad, and PC's (XBMC, 2Player, etc..)
Every time I pull a bunch of files down to my phone (Nexus S) the album art ends up getting screwed up with art with the wrong albums etc (I never pull anything but full albums). I've gone in and wiped the music player data and had it rescan.. Same thing.. A few will come up bad. It's annoying. I mean how hard is it to keep the art for specific MP3's in the database correctly. It doesn't feel like rocket science.
I haven't been able for the life of me figure out exactly why this is happening only on the Android music player.
OK so I'm getting kinda cheesed off with Google play music and the album art displayed. So I got 3 id3 apps, audiotagger 4.0.0, itag 1.50, and pimp my music 1.49. I'm trying to get a decent high resolution album art to stick on my MP3 albums. Iv used all 3 to try to remove any album art that's seems to be stuck to the MP3 files and then used all 3 to set the album art I want either from searching on the internet or select a picture saved to my gallery. I even went as far as deleting some 1156 pictures of the same low res album art which keeps reappearing. So for a while Google play music will show the high res album art and its great but after a while it goes back to low resolution album art which is all pixilated and stuff.
So anyone know how this could be sorted out?

I was able to do it by modifying the cover art from my PC. Opened Play in my web browser and went to My Music. Then picked the album and modified the album info. It let me change to a better pic. So far, the higher-res pics seem to have stuck. Hope they don't spontaneously revert.

OK great album seems to be sticking now, that particular album I got up on Google play music server and on my device.
I just can't get id3 genre tag to change for the on device music. I did already try with Google play music and its showing correct for what's 'in the cloud' but on device copy won't change, its being a little bastard. I tried the same 3 apps as mentioned before. Any ideas? Maybe they don't work so well with jelly bean?

I have a few albums where the album art refuses to change no matter which program I use.
Based on some searching I found that if you delete all files in "com.android.providers.media\albumthumbs" that the phone should stop forcing its art on specific albums. However after doing so you also have to change the folder to read-only.
I did this on an old s5 neo and it worked.
However on my current s9 I don't have the option to delete files in this folder. So, I found the folder by connecting my phone to my pc and deleted all the files... but I can't change the permission of the folder either on my phone or pc to read-only, so the album art is still not changing.
Tried a bunch of different apps, and in the apps the art is ok, but in the actual music player it's not.
Is there any work around for this? Or any other way to force the album art to change? Any way to change the folder to read-only?
Thanks!
It seems strange that art wouldn't change. Are you sure there isn't art embedded into the files? Download a music tagger, I recommend Mp3tag if you're on Windows, and open the files in there to see if there's any art embedded. Also make sure there isn't a hidden folder.jpg anywhere. If you can't figure it out maybe upload one of the files and I'll have a look to see if I can find the problem.
Hey sure thanks so much if you could help that'd be great.
Here is one of the files. I just opened it in mp3tag, deleted the album art, added a high quality pic. Yet when I uploaded to my phone it still shows some low quality crap as album art.

I've taken a look and the file appears to be OK. Did you happen to check if the previously embedded pic was low quality? Because if it was you might just need to clear albumthumbs again, then recopy over the album with the high quality art embedded in each file (you might also just be able to put it as folder.jpg in the same folder with no embeds on any files, not certain if that works) and let the cache regenerate.
If that doesn't work then I have a couple more questions - how low quality are you talking (a screenshot would be helpful), and what music player are you using? Because testing the file in Samsung Music looks fine to me. You could also have a look at another music player with an option to ignore mediastore's cached covers (which are usually compressed more) and reads the art directly from the file. There are a bunch available that can do this like Retro, Shuttle, Phonograph, Poweramp, and probably tons more.
I've attached screenshots of what it looks like for me on Retro (with mediastore disabled) and Samsung Music.
Hey no I didn't check the previously embeded pic. I did however clear albumthumbs and then recopied the song, but still didn't work. Don't know what the f is up with this phone lol.
I'm not sure what you mean with the folder.jpg. I'm supposed to name the album art file folder.jpg?
Ya mine doesn't look like that unfortunately. Here's a pic of how mine looks on Samsung music player. Also here's the pic I'm trying to use.

Welp, my last idea apart from trying a different music player is to clear the data of Samsung Music. If that doesn't work, I probably can't help sorry.
By the folder.jpg thing I mean instead of embedding the file in every MP3 on an album, which takes up more space (say your album cover is 700 kilobytes across 10 songs, that's 7 megabytes), you can just put it in the same folder as the files (like the attached image). It could also take priority depending on the app, not sure how Samsung Music handles it.
That's alright thanks so much so far.
How do I clear the data from samsung music?
In terms of putting the album art in the same folder as the files... do I do that on my phone or my computer?

Oh man thanks so much... it finally worked. There are still a couple albums which it didn't work for but it worked for most. Maybe clearing albumthumbs again will work.
Also there's another problem, lol. The mini album art at the bottom of the screen shows up as the old one instead of the new one. I'm gonna try clearing albumthumbs and samsung music again and hopefully that fixes it.
Hey so I (or better you) figured it out finally. If you change the album art right before you clear samsung music then after clearing it will show up with the correct album art in all places. Some of the older ones I changed didn't show up, but if I changed them right before clearing they all showed up perfectly.

Glad to hear you got it working!
Someone said to place all new music in internal and then it will be recognized.
Another way is to clear app's data.
Really? No refresh option? Cmon Samsung.
Well I had started the phone over at the time of my prev post..right now thats 3+ hrs ago and that shutdown / startup was after a total data clear in the apps settings Samsung Music app storage, and a unmount of the ext sd.
I just think it is interesting to see the difference in the Samsung indexing compared to the vlc indexing for my music. VLC takes upwards of a half hour. Samsung however has taken over three hours and is not nearly done yet. Of 7 or 8 newly added music folders, still only 3 have showed up (folders tab allows for sort by recently added).
It looks like a 6 hour indexing job or at the very least 4. Probably 6 as I just happened to look down and saw the tail end of some kind of toast notification of passing the first 10000 song point of loading.
Pretty tarded app. REALLY needs a refresh button if it is this slow to index.
But it does look good scrolling thru all the albun covers.
Just had a thought...hope it isn't screwing with my custom created artworks. That would be totally uncalled for.
No checking on a jpg file it remains at its original shape and size.
I have been watching this indexing of the music by the Samsung Music app, very closely.
It returned both positive quantities and negatives so far.
I consider this to be one of the best sets of native apps of any phone so far, but the music app being the only AOD enablable app for lockscreen music has me baffled and disappointed. Though not entirely.
On one hand it is really blows it in that it has taken over 6 hours so far and only 3 of 8 of my newly added folders have been loaded.
Additionally it misses the ball on SEVERAL of the artwork configurations which VLC (not supported in AOD) picks up easily.
First the pro column, it looks good in album view and scrolls real smooth, without using 7 GB for APP Data (which is what vlc takes to run my music collection) (where is it storing the data? is my question here); refer to screenshots 1, 3 &4 &8.
However, there is a small number of album arts missing, and more than expected albums in the 'Unknown Album' position of the 'U's in the alphabet. Which indicates to me that there could be some id tag misrecognition or unrecognition someplaces;
refer to screenshot 15 &16.
Finally the Samsung native music app sees the artwork as different in albums where different songs have different artworks, but only in instances where those arts and songs are nested in separate folders. Such as my version of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack.
In cases where the artworks were embedded separately in the songs of a compilation to show their original album arts, which is how I did the Word Of Mouth compilation, (which I also screenshotted here from the Samsung file manager which displays that in the file manager we can see the individually embedded songs embedded arts in its little file manager thumbnail) there is no individually embedded artwork recognition in the AOD enabled samsung music app. The lockscreen displays show that VLC will have these Word Of Mouth albun arts as different.
Seen in the remaining screenshots:
It's not the only AOD enabled music app. Good play music works just fine as do others.

I am of course speaking of the following always on display as seen in the following screenshot
(though I haven't tried those other apps) ...and not the screenshots in my prior post which are lockscreen shots.
Meanwhile after a decharge today from 100% down to now 44%, it has still not indexed my music files completely as at least one folder is still not seen atop the latest folders list. Most of them just showed up in the last hour or two though. About 24 hours so far since it started.
Presumably it must be storing all these artworks in the system, they are all there as I scroll the lists.
As my sd isn't formatted to the phone but only external.
Man, just buy a better sd card and dont blame the phone for this or atleast try to format this one and try again.
Man. Maaaaan haha. Don't tell people what to do. Aggression indicated stupidity thats just stupid you know. Literally. Loser. I bet you don't even keep any music on your phone. Probably using Spotify. Not me I'm from a different generation. We used to buy physical copies of our music albums, and carry them around with us. The music then was better too.
The phone must be using some sort of sdcard block by block scan eh. It still finding items on the thing. Not exactly a normal method to find files. I'm guessing it locates the head folder, but in my case it's a complex tree.
So if it is the sdcard being 500 GB card. That's a pretty good sized card anyway.
But it is still finding stuff screenshotted it then left it over night (after charge and restart) and it added some 10 more albums or so to the list.
It's not about size of card, but read/write speed, the slower the card the longer it takes for the phone to update the album arts.
I have no problem with this app. I have 6 GB music files in my SD card and it loads all albums and album arts immediately when I open the app. My SD card is Samsung Evo+ 128GB.
Slowly now. Latest rate appears to be finding about 1/hr. Samsung card. Singly written. Couple months old. EVO.
Also it is really fast to load those arts once it finds the absolute block in the SD cards file system.. VLC has always been ultra slow at loading all the music. If one were to attempt to enter an artist heading in VLC or album heading, it could take minutes to resolve the artist or album.
This app has its negative points, but it also has its positive points. I am not here to criticize the app. I am here making a point to observe it. Really pleased with the Samsung apps as I said in the op. The keyboard and the file manager I especially like. The points where the music app slips in finding some arts are probably gonna be repairable by changing out the few non functional music files on a case by case basis.
Seriously fast app for loading the musics and arts. real time jump anywhere in the list by track or albun. Very pleased.
VLC vs Samsung data usage stat for 300 GB of music. this app is like a window to my SD card.
Samsung s native music app is trash honestly.
I would recommend a alternative like vinyl player or black player.
Not pleased again. Used Smart Switch to do a phone backup, took out the sd card, put back in, restored the backup, and now it is re-indexing the music again. So once again my latest added folders are not here. Once again can't listen to my newest adds like Madonna's GHV2 for example, if I wanted to (with the Samsung music app, at least). Which blows.
I thought once it built its music index it would store it in the permanent. now back to square 1.
I'm glad i don't mess around with this stuff any more. I uploaded all my music to Google Play Music and never looked back. Available anywhere, on any device with internet and i can always download music from Play Music if i really need to. I don't have any need to carry thousands of albums in my pocket.

That's cool. is that a sharable playlist or what? I can't say as I've heard of that one how does it work? You pay a subscription fee or what?
I have purchased a few albuns off of Google play store but I don't like the feeling of staying connected to the internet. So I can't rely on the internet.
Really ridiculous this app is slowly reloading those folders again. This all started cause I heard from the Samsung store that they could replace my carrier version of the software with something from Samsung. Which they then failed to do. Not something I would do very often.
Massive deceleration curve for this indexing thing. Been screenshotting the progress over the past several hours. The window over thr albums holds it's viewpoint above the list. Say it was started in the 4th quarter of the Alphabet (by albun population) at album number 1200, after 400 albums are added it enters the third quarter by going through first the T's backwards from Tzolkin Date to T Rex.Then on into the S's rising towards the top but staying at a viewpoint of album #1200 in the list, which now would have over 1600
While the population happens over a graph of time on the x axis. The y axis charts the speed of albums added. The curve is hyperbolic deceleration over time.
Last time the indexing was being completed, I saw a few albums still being added. (before the restart happened today).
