Tried looking for the answer on the forums but couldn't find an answer. I got the wifi bug where your wifi turns on randomly throughout the day. Does anyone know if a fix or if Samsung is in the process of making an OTA fix?

If you got to setting and networks I believe there is an option to turn it off,I got the tmobile version but seem sprint users talking about it

Go to system settings>> wireless and networks >>more settings>> mobile networks>>uncheck automatic connections
Sprint versions have this option to disable it.
Has anyone noticed on certain networks that wifi is continuously downloading(incoming arrow always lit)... i wonder if it has to do with the auto connection thing? Doesnt seem to be affecting batt life but its kind of annoying... at my house it does it but not at work... maybe a router issue?

I am on Legendary 2.1 and just had it pointed out and I verified that even though my wifi is connected to my router it continuously scans every few seconds. This has got to be a battery drain. Is there a way to turn off the scanner when connected or set it for every 5 minutes instead? Thanks.
Edit: Thanks TeamERA for explaining that it only does that while in the listing window so it can update the list immediately. It defaults to the scan interval in build.prop when that window is closed. Thank you.
I think romtoolbox allows you to change that Im not sure but you can check it out.

Sorry root tools by jrummy allows you to change wifi scan intervals

I'm pretty sure you should be able to turn off 'network notification' while connected...this should stop scans since this option is made to notify when a network is available. In theory, if its not notifying you if new networks are available, I would assume it's not scanning. Good luck

I tried SleeperROM and it does it there too. Can someone look into making the scanner manual only?

That would be awesome cuz you have to figure that's a lil bit of a battery drain.

I found a program called wifi buddy on the Android market. This program allows you to disable wifi scanning.

I will try that...thank you! Probably add hours onto my battery life on weekends at home with wifi on.
Wifi buddy settings only control that app not the system settings so disabling wifi scanning only worked inside app not to system wifi scanning

I'm not knowledgable enough yet, but has anyone looked into using SQ Editor? Perhaps something can be manipulated in system files to just disable intermittent scanning all together? Only initial scan when wifi is activated? Just an idea...

That's what I was hoping for. Can't seem to get a DEVs attention to look into this. Build prop edit doesn't do anything.

Trying to find any sort of process or folders in root explorer that relate to wifi/scanning and coming up empty...I'm with you Kenny, we need a dev to pick this up, especially if editing build prop showed no results

I think my phone is doing this too.
In betterbatterystats mmc_delayed_work (under kernel wakelocks) accounts for 90% of my wakelocks, this does not happen on 3G so it is definitely related to Wifi.
I thought it had something to do with my router (DIR-655) as other people said they experienced unusual drain with that router.. Not so sure now.
This is probably the main reason people are complaining about their battery life on the gingerbread builds. I think it is more of a EI22 issue. How did EH17 or the previous gingerbread Roms handle this and if it handled this issue better can we take something from to fix our problem.

It would be nice to actually have the system manipulated, however, I am pretty sure that Juice Defender has an option of wifi control...I think (and I don't fully remember, just went to Thunderhawk and haven't put it back, trying to figure out other ways to better battery, as is everyone else) that you can allow JD to stop all wifi unless user selected.
So I don't claim to be a dev, but I just thought of something that might lead you in the right direction. I remember a post about lowering the signal threshold on your phone to get better 4g connectivity a couple of months ago in the general section. Its a dialer code and you need your msl to gain access. This is one of the phone settings like at the bios level. When I did this, I was able to see a boatload of settings that you would not find anywhere in the os settings. If you know where I am talking about and know the dial code to get in there, I do remember seeing some wifi stuff. Maybe something in there you can change scan or retry rates, with signal thresholds that might work for you. Write down all changes you make if u need to go back.
Again, just a thought trying to help.

That's a good idea. I will check that out when I get a chance.
I have continued issues with receiving picture texts.... I almost always have to tell the sender to send it once more for it to come through. I've also noticed my H bars turning from Blue to Grey when this happens.... Any ideas as to what could be causing this? At&t looks dumbfounded every time I go in or call about this....

TBH, it sounds like an ATT issue.
I know the common thought is that grey bars means lost connections to Google, but when that happens to me, I have always lost network connectivity.

mms is either apn related problem or just bad coverage (no good data in area)
you can google different apn settings to try
I have to use go smd to view mms depending on what ROM I'm using.

FYI, for the 3rd update in a row Sprint enables Connection Optimizer by default. It is a HUGE battery drainer in the past, and maybe even more so in the JB release. Remember to go into..
Settings --> More Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Connections Optimizer
and uncheck.

But does it stick as disabled when you disable it? I had that problem in LI3 and I ended up freezing it with Titanium Backup.
You have to go to /system/app and delete or rename Connection Manager.apk.
Even if you disable it. It will be turned on again.
That's the Sprint "don't use your unlimited data"
That sh** is all day long scanning for Wi-Fi.

It is causing hell on my phone today. Keeps flipping out and flapping my WiFi connection. Just checked it in Better Battery Stats...yep, this is the third worst offender behind screen and media services. And Sprint pushed out a buggy update that won't let people turn it off...
With this and their incredibly stupid removal of Internet Calling, I can see LJ7 being pulled or a fast update being pushed out ASAP.

First off, a thousand apologies if there is already a post or thread regarding my issue. I could not find it.
After using ROM toolbox pro to uninstall sprint connections optimiser my WiFi still turns on pretty frequently by itself. Is there some other app I need to freeze or uninstall to keep this from happening?
I've looked in WiFi settings for an option to disable "notify me when networks are available" but couldn't find that.

I was about to post a question regarding this. Good to know I wasn't the only one having this issue. I just got my Optimus G and couldn't figure out why my WiFi would randomly turn on. I changed the network notification setting and will test that out.
Oh btw, I'm running completely stock and not rooted Android 4.1.2

Yep seems like when I get a new picture message my wifi turns on... Anyone have this issue?\
Edit: Ok read about how to disable the sprint connection optimizer. unchecked the box and let's see if that helps.
Edit 2: that did it... Thanks!
I Can't find a thread about this, so I was go ogling and that doesn't really help. I am having major problems with my wifi it keeps dropping non stop and it's really annoying. After looking all night I found a thread that fixed this. You have two choices really to fix or buy your router which I'm not going to do, or you can type in on your dial pad *#0011#. Then you click your menu button, click on the wifi option, and then disable the energy saver wifi mode. That made it so my phone wouldn't drop wifi connection anymore. NOTE: each time you restart your phone you need to turn the wifi energy saver off through the command *#0011#. Hope I helped some of you because this bug is truly annoying.

That stinks. I don't have any problem and I think this is only the 2nd time I've seen anything posted like this about the S4 (the S3 did have that issue and was common). I've never turned off any energy saver and mine stays connected 100% of the time. So you're saying either that or you have to buy a new router? What kind do you have now and what settings on it did you find out that cause this issue for you?
Right now I have whatever Verizon gives fios customers. It works perfectly for all my phones, tablets, and computer. Just not on my s4 unless I do the dial pad trick. I'll post a link on the xda thread when I get home on how to fix your router. It really does make me angry that I paid 600 for the phone and it does this. Hopefully Samsung fixes this soon since they acknowledge the problem

My gf has an S4 and has the same problem. We have a Netgear WNDR3500. So it's not isolated to a D-Link. She also did the dial pad trick and it seems to work for her as well. Need to find a script to run on boot to set the power save to OFF.
