I just tried to install an APK from Root Browser and it says there isnt enough memory yet in my apps settings it says i have 1.8 GB left..
I have the exact same issue, I have like this:
==============================
System storage: 1.97 GB Free
USB Storage : 11.25 GB Free
SD Card : 29.81 GB Free
==============================
I'm on Stock ICS 4.0.3, rooted and debloated.
Can it be that one of the "bloatware" that I deleted can make apps misread the free space info?
Thanks for any ideas you might have about this.
This my be really stupid. But maybe it's talking about RAM?

Did any of you using lucky patcher??
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
@alphadog32 this was my exact assumtion when reading main title..
@OP Have you tryed wiping cache/Fixing permissions?
Side note, try a different app (astro, root explorer, myfiles, etc, & ensure 'unknown sources' is checked in security options,
Keep in mind, even root applicagions, if not running in elevated mode, can't even read /data typically make sure if its a root installer (most probable method is copyin to /data)
Ensure root mode is on, if not, that might simply be your issue..
I always have around 350 MB of Ram,
The odd thing is that today I was able to install any app I wanted, without any problems.
I didn't even reboot since yesterday. I have no idea what is different from 12 hours ago.
Thanks for all your help.

Okay lots of replies to reply to but..
No it was talking about storage space, cause it had a radio button to "manage applications" on the error window. not about RAM
Yes i wiped all caches and fixed permissions.
Yes i used lucky patcher (i believe this is where the issue was)
But i solved it,
I began just randomly browsing my data partition using root explorer, and i found a .odex file ( i believe generated by lucky patcher) and after i deleted that file, everything is working again
If it's not to much trouble, can you tell us the name of the file and where exactly is it?
Thanks

if you use lucky patcher just open it and it will say as a notfication unused odex found and deleted.

Hello all,
first I'm sorry for my poor english. I will do my best.
I have my Xperia Play since 1 month and I have change the SD card from 8 to 32 Go. I have many place to stock all the things and the RAM free is great. But the intern memory is less than 24 Mo when it's started.
I have install and use App to SD to do the best but there is the same problem.
How to please to have more free intern memory ? (it's a problem when I must download a think from android market and install an update for example).
Thanx.
Heads up, internal memory and RAM are the same thing in android. So I'm not really sure what you're asking since you say RAM is fine but internal memory isn't....

How can Ram and internal memory be the same thing? I have 270mb free memory but often low on ram when open too many apps
Anyways OP, you can look up on the Dalvik hack, not sure whether you need rooted phone or not..

He's talking about internal storage, not internal "memory".
Try rooting the phone and getting rid of bloatware. Also, some roms take up less space than others. I found there is more internal storage after the updates.

Because Ram and memory is the same thing! Storage or disk space has nothing to do with memory.

Guys you're arguing semantics here. The guy stated English wasn't his first language and he's quite clearly talking about internal storage, especially when he mentioned his SD card. Quit arguing about the difference between memory and storage.

Hello,
I've flashed to a new rom and installed adfree(like i previously had) and updated list and it no longer works. it used to work on my stock root. so i figured i would try adaway and same issues...
i tried rebooting phone, clearing dalvik cache etc just to see if it would help. same problem.
could there be a conflict somewhere? am i doing something wrong?
i tried installing busybox but i already had it.
any help would be fantastic!

I find on adfree I need to have "Use /data/data/hosts symlink" and "create symlink if needed" checked to get it to work.
Tried it. No change. Don't understand this.

Select "Use /data/data/hosts symlink" and "create symlink if needed" , force update the hosts file, reboot.
That's all I needed to do to make it work on stock rooted EI22. It's possible the rom you are on has the hosts file somewhere odd?
It's possible that the image of the ad was cached somewhere on your SD card. Try the same app in airplane mode to see if it's pulling it from the net (in which case Adaway should block it) or if it's loading it locally.
Scour your card for ad images.
Try another app w/ ads.
Tried everything. I'm using acs ics 5. But I've tried other roms.
Just doesn't make sense. Could my jailbreak be bad?

Today, I flashed rom to fd05 (including modem, kernel) and was reinstalling the Titanium backup. But the installation was not successful because of the 'out of space' error message - "Titanium Backup could not be installed. Free up some space and try again".
I've checked the USB storage space and it still had 9.81GB space available. But the problem was it's including the SDCARD's occupied space upon total used usb storage space. For the SDCARD (external),it's being used about 12.65 GB out of 32GB. When you see the second screenshot, the miscellaneous files size is including the used SDCARD size. But after I unmounted the SDCARD, the size is decreased to 1.29GB.
So, I unmounted SDCARD and tried to install the app again but still got the same error (strange....)
Because of this error, I moved back to Calk's tweaked FD02 rom and it showed the same usage but I was able to install the app.
I'm not sure this would be the stock rom issue on FD05 (or any other previous stock roms) or it's something else.
At least I'm able to install the app on Calk's rom but not in the stock rom.
Does anyone know what makes this kind of difference? If there is any kind of tweak applied to Calk's rom, could someone please share the information with us, so we apply the same thing on FD05 or future roms?
[Update]
I just re-flashed Calk's rom with FD05 Stocked rooted rom again.
At this time, I just reinstalled Titanium backup without uninstalling TB. At this time it worked like a charm. No issues at all.
Last time, I tried to clean install TB on the Go Launcher EX but at this time, just updated TB on default TW launcher.
Quite strange. If anyone has the same issue, first try to update the TB on TW launcher..... Hope this help!
I wonder if this will help..

Linked thread is related to the behavior of USB storage when it's connected to USB cable. So, it's not related to the issue I'm talking about.
Thanks anyway!
to resolve this issue use something like root explorer, nav to data/app and delete titanium.odex file. it might be names a little different but ull find it

Usually if an app cannot install (especially a non-game app) due to space issues, the problem is space in /cache or /data/dalvik-cache (ie /data)
The USB storage usually isn't the "space" issue because it is relatively large, but can be an issue if it got remapped to an unexpected location.

Thanks sfhub for your response.
Because of the space issue, as long as I remember, I cleaned cache & dalvik cache from the boot recovery. But the result was same....
I believe there's some difference between Calk's tweaked FD02 and Stocked rooted FD05.
He said that "Moved dalvik-cache to cache partition(if it runs low on space, it will move back to Data partition)" on his FD02 thread.
Not sure, this tweak could cause a problem....

Had a problem with another app which had administrator permissions. After I uninstalled it, couldn't re-install again - .
Searched all over for solutions but kept coming to these similar threads about "going to data/app". Went there but it the app in question just wasn't there - therefore nothing to delete.
The more fool-proof, automated way to solve the problem (irregardless of app causing the problem) is to download Lucky Patcher. Under Toolbox>Remove fixes and backups (insufficient storage available) ==> it will automatically remove unused odex files. Works perfectly thereafter.

Not sure if you have solved this yet but I was also having a similiar problem when I first got my Note 2 some months ago. If this doesn't help or you have solved your issue disregard it, hopefully it may be helpful to others in the future looking up answers to this problem.
It seems some apps can be installed incorrectly / get corrupted and this error will always come about no matter how much free space you have. It sees the old data persisting in your device and tells you you have insufficient space.
You can solve the issue if this is the case by deleting any stray .odex files in /data/app <- (this is in the root of your phone) You will need root access and a app such as solid explorer or root explorer (I would recommend solid explorer). You can find the suspect files by looking for any files in here that end in .odex and have no icon (just a generic file icon). The rest of the good files will end in .apk and have their respective icons.

simplest fix without using the root that you gained would be just disable the stock samsung camera then download one from the play store....but if you wanna use the root you just gained i would say download this then extract the samsung camera from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2741413 then with the root browser just delete the samsung app that you have installed and put the one you extracted in its place then fix the permissions then reboot and it should work now

Even if you sent the apps to your external SD they would still be wiped if you do a full wipe in order to flash a new rom....but what you can do is copy the apps data to your external SD with a root browser. Basically make a copy of the "Android<Data" sub folder from your Internal SD then change the name of the Android Folder then paste it to your external SD and the apps data it self will be safe even if you wipe to flash a new rom...
