I thought about what I should as those were the only options presented to me... I finally asked, can I just keep the same thing I'm doing now? She basically said I could but threatened that my phone could be disconnected for no reason at all whenever they feel like it...!
I was too frustrated to deal with it anymore and told her thanks (nothing to thank her for, dunno why I did that) and ended the call.
Turns out I used approx 500 roaming minutes (phone calls) according to their records in six months. They claim that's excessive and sent me a letter 2 months ago that I still haven't seen. Either way, considering flashing to boost now. Only problem is, how do I get the other two phones on my account over there and would those be without etf as well?

Only sprint can answer those questions. My guess would be if they are allowing you to cancel 1 line with no etf, they should let you cancel other 2. If not, force them too.

They practically harassed me. This was the third call of the day. The first one was on my lunch break with the girl telling me "you been roamin and we callin u 2 talk bout it". I was thinking "talk about what?" lmao! But seriously thee rudest people I've ever talked to on the phone!

If they want you to cancel your line, make it conditional on them releasing the others as well. Otherwise, change the PRL to constantly roam on your other two devices. You'll receive a call in about a month telling you that they want to cancel those lines too.
This is easy to do on an android phone, but I'm unsure about iphones.

500 minutes over six months is excessive? Isn't their monthly roaming "limit" "800 minutes or the majority of minutes" for any single month?
I have the same question, my mother is on verizon prl now but when I switch it I don't get any MMS messages downloaded, do you have this issue?

2 months straight here, and a couple gig per month for the last year probably with no letter yet.

Well, I'd say it's nice to see you posting again on XDA but what odd circumstances.
I'd say call them up and get a clarification on it. If they don't drop the ETF already you could pressure them to do so and as another posted make it an "all or none" situation with your account. Remind them that it's not the only phone on the account. They'll either fold because you're costing them too much, try to give you the proverbial middle finger or drop the issue and let you continue as you have been. And if you don't get the answer you're looking for I'd take ask for a supervisor or find another way to escalate.
BTW, still sporting the LG as one of the other phones?

I'm going to venture to guess "mumbles" the CSR meant to say you've used 500 roaming minutes a month for the last 6 months, but wasn't articulate enough to spit that out properly. If I were you I would call into the customer service number and try and get a hold of a rep who can properly convey what they are trying to tell you and escalate it from there to retentions. You will probably end up with a few options, 1) keep all 3 lines and try to get below a certain amount of roaming a month 2) terminate the offending line with no ETF and keep the other lines active 3) cancel all 3 lines with no ETF or 4) get the offending line terminated ETF free but have to buy out the other lines at the prorated ETF if the contract is over a year into agreement.

Slow down big fella or Sprint will come calling. I barely went over 300 mb of roaming for one month and the have me a call. I'm glad since it allows me to cancel my plan whenever with no etf..

Sprint's service in my area is horrible now... I'd rather go tmobile or verizon, even if it costs more at least its service that I can use.
How do you use a PRL from another carrier? I have not seen that option anywhere.Sprint's coverage is pretty horrible and I could use some Verizon love when I am at work. Much better signal from Big Red and none from Sprint while there.

Ok guys, so I saw somewhere around here, a while back I think that Sprint changed some of it's fine print in the contract...Soooo, no one flame me or anything, but does anyone have any info on this? Thinking of jumping ship to verizon. I have 4 lines right now and pay around $176 a month and all the lines are still under contract for a while. edit: I think I found something...This was just on my latest bill, I did some research and any change to the previous contract is a breach and you have 30 days to get out of your contract. Now, you can get out of your contract and still keep your service, just not be tied down to a fricken contract! Here is what was on my last bill:

Thanks, I'm sure a few people are interested in getting out...Have you called Sprint about it yet? Sometimes they're really helpful to me and sometimes they straight up lie to my face and say they gave me a $50 credit and I'll call back a few days later to see where it is and they have "no idea" and then wont give it to me...I guess I was a little let down after this ****ty ass "announcement" they made tonight...I've been with 'em for 8 years and really don't want to switch, but it's starting to look like that.
Nothing will get you out of the ETF right now, Sprint has been really careful with their changes lately. The Premium Data fee, Sprint Premier, 411 charges - none of those are a change to your current contract. The only way out is if you roam too much and they kick you off the network.

Same here, some days I can't reach my wife if she's at home because the phone won't ring and my texts won't go through for a while. I tried to talk to Sprint about an Airave but they argued with me and said I'm in an "excellent coverage area" and told me no, even after contacting Executive Services. That was the last straw for me.
Change your PRL to a VZW PRL and start hitting them HARD for data. According to the terms of service, they can give you the boot for anything over 300 megs per month or more than 50% of all data as roaming data. If you're rooted on all the phones, do them all at the same time and then Sprint will want you all dead.

I was doing some reading on and i read that if sprint can't cover you in a place they don't offer service you can complain and they will waive the ETF, for example tell them you are being relocated to somewhere overseas where they don't offer any type of service, if they can't accomadte you they will let you out, i haven't tried this soooo i can't confirm

I called and got an Airave for free. What you have to do is set up a consistent series of calls with them. It took me three calls but I got it. Then again, I had a legitimate issue.
Essentially, call every time there is an issue. Write down the time it happens, what happened, and where you were. Call sprint and tell them what the issue is. They may transfer to you an "advanced" tech department. Or, they may tell you to come in to the store to have your phone checked out.
As we all know, it most likely isn't your phone because it is happening on multiple lines. Decline going to a store. Insist on speaking to the advanced tech department. Tell them your problem and they will do something on their end. Wait until that "resolves" (which usually it doesn't because the coverage is strong in that area). Then call back again and complain. Try to get transferred to retentions and see if you can get one.

Well i know everybody said to be careful but i didnt actually think i was gonna get Terminated... i had the 00001 Verizon Prl and i used about 6gbs a month haha. They got me, but im jus gonna jump on my freinds plan I still <3 Sprint.
Well at least we know for sure that this is a way to get out of your Sprint contract and without an ETT fee.

12 months is a good amount of time.
Were you consistantly downloading around 6gb a month (on roam)?
I suspect if you just used this on your phone for normal activites (streaming pandora/web searches/google maps/nav etc...) that you'd probably be good to go.
I only ask because I have HORRIBLE service where I live and found the 01337 prl to be 1000x improvement as far as speed (60681- 10kb/s if lucky, 01337-mod 120 kb/s).

I'm surprised they don't look into where you're roaming and figure out why it's roaming so much.
if roaming because of PRL(They see great Sprint coverage where you roam) - warn you about it and charge ETF.
If roaming because of no sprint = cut service off as was done to OP.
What if you want to renew with them? Do they add you to some sort of black list?

I don't think sprint gets a bill each month for X number of kilobytes people roam.
This is why they have signed roaming agreements... They pay a flat fee and users can then roam (no addl. cost to them).
Correct me if I'm wrong...
But I will say that it's unacceptable to run a speed test on Sprint, get only 10kb/s if lucky, flash a verizon prl and hit over 120kb/s and not feel like you're getting ripped off.
Every time I call sprint Data techs (they open a ticket and eventually tell me all towers are working correctly and there is no problem with the network)... Very disappointing.

Well if you want Verizon speeds, then you can go on Verizon IMO. While I love the fact that Sprint has low prices and I'd LOVE if they actually made them into decent speeds, jumping on a different PRL and getting terminated will just be worse int he long run since I don't want to pay for verizon service.
Wow, I honesty don't remember ever seeing anyone confirm that they were booted for excessive roaming. I never change PRLs and hardly ever roam but thanks for letting people know.

i'd like to take a minute to mention 2 things.
1. in a contract that takes longer than ONE (1) minute to read, there is no such thing as "clearly stated" and I can't vouch for your colleagues encouraging people to read them. the contract gets highlighted in a couple places and it's a "sign here, here 'n here sur!"
2. there's a clause in federal law where if party B agrees to not do something under contract with party A, and party A does not enforce their contract within X time frame (never knew how long but would love to know), party A has then waived their right to file suit.

Somtimes It's as bad as 10-70 kbps... It's horrible...

[I win after all after a call to retention][see further down for new developments] Each month I get my data throttled, I have to spend an hour or so on the phone until they'll open a service request ticket for some upper level honcho to press a button and clear up the problem in 5 minutes.
This time I upgraded my data plan to 10GB, but the throttle would not release. After the hour of my dealing with script following drones, a higher level support tech asked me what kind of phone I had. When I replied Galaxy Nexus, she gleefully replied that "our contract with you states we don't have to support 3G for you since you didn't buy one of our [crappy over priced phones] from us. In fact, I'm supposed to disable your 3G service. Even if you have a iPhone 4S." (Um... WHAT? iPhone? Now you're just trying to insult me.)
Just when I thought all hope was lost, my mobile muse rescued me with divine inspiration. "Oh really?" I smirked, "I just stuck my SIM card in my wife's T-Mobile Sensation™ and I'm still getting throttled. Can you support me now, biatch?"*

I got the usual, "Your service request will be processed within the next 3 business days" reply. Apparently when I upgraded, they failed to remove the 5GB red flag on my account. Generally, my service requests go through the first business day. As I called on Saturday, I expect they'll get to it today... At least that's what usually happens.
Incidentally, they let me upgrade to 10GB for $40/month for three months, and threw in T-Mobile hot spots (whatever those are). It took me three phone calls of hemming and hawing before I got offered this, but it's there.

Tmobile customer service might not be stellar but it's usually better than most other carriers.
Don't confuse the poor customer service reps with red flags like I'm using a device not sold/supported by Tmobile.
Just tell them you're using a phone that they sell/support and keep the distractions to a minimum.
This isn't a T-Mobile problem, its more of a problem with American carriers in general. They're wary to have to do anything involving a device they "don't support". Its unfortunate but kinda how it is.
Just keep on doing your thing. May I suggest going prepaid? You won't get good CS with an unlocked phone anyway, might as well not pay for it.
How do you know when you’re being throttled? I have their 5GB plan, but never use that much.

When you hit 5GB, you'll receive a pop up and/or SMS telling you you're being throttled for the rest of the period.
Your data speeds will also reduce to about that of EDGE, topping out at about .5mbps down / up. The icon in your status bar will still say 3G or H and you'll keep low ping times, but the speeds will be reduced.
I got sick of T-Mo and switched to StraightTalk prepaid. $45 per month for unlimited everything and I have yet to be throttled.

That's because Straight Talk doesn't throttle. They just cancel your service lol. And they do it a lot sooner than 5GB.
I agree Straight Talk is a great deal, but it's not the same as T-Mo when it comes to data. T-Mo is 100% up-front about when they will throttle you, and they'll never cut your data off or charge overages.

Yep. In about 15 months as a T-Mobile customer I've only gone over 5gb maybe 2-3 times, but only actually been throttled once. That one time I was throttled, I was notified instantly.

Yeah i don't understand this either. They are so worried about getting you to get one of "their" phones. Even if your not using their phone, your still paying for their service. You buy a phone from them, they get a few hundred in profit one time. But if they provide good service, they don't need to rely on selling you a phone because they'll be making money on the service they're selling you. I guess the carriers forget that they are providing a service, it doesn't matter what you use the service on they should support it.

Funny I had the complete opposite happen to me I called T-Mobile about slow data issue when I was in Las Vegas two weeks ago. The tech guy I talked to was real helpful and knew the GNex and was more than happy to help me. His biggest worry was that I called from my GNex and that if for some reason we would get cut off. But everyone has different outcomes when dealing with customer service. I will say that T-Mobile is light years ahead of Sprint, they just suck.

So I'm still throttled. I called back today and they now say that no matter what, they cannot lift the throttle until the end of the billing cycle. They WERE, of course, happy to take my money to backdate a data plan increase, however. How sleazy.
I call this utter and complete bull****. As a programmer and dba, I refuse to believe it's impossible to lift a throttle before the end of the cycle.
I'm now being held hostage to creeping data by my contract.
Screw you, T-Mobile.
Time to figure out my exit strategy.

I know exactly how you feel ..this happen to me last month ..I got throttled last month at 5 gigs ..so next day I call upgrade to the ten ..told me within two hours my data would be back to normal speeds..one day later still slow as hell ..anyways I call tech ..they ask " what phone you have " I say "gn" they say the can't do tickets for that ..so I put my sim in a sensation 4g and a T-Mobile vibrant ..still slow ..long story short I had to wait till my billing cycle over to get my speeds back..hang in there man ...

It is definitely BS. They did it for me when I upgraded to the 5GB plan.
I've been with Sprint for a while now. Lately i've had a lot of complaints that people can't get to me. My girlfriend never gets notified when she gets a voicemail.
It takes us 3-4 times to dial any number.I've been missing important call for the last 2 months. One of them including my grandfather passing away.
It's really bad at my work. No signal at all and always roaming. I cannot continue to use this service.
I've called customer support and they told me that they are aware that a lot of people have had missed calls since March when they started rolling out the network vision upgrade. So for the last months I can get at least 4 people that have the same problem. Nothing is getting resolved and it seems nobody cares.
I took my phone in to get it check out by a tech and there is nothing wrong with it. Since I know of at least 4 other persons experiencing this, I'm sure now that this is not an issue with me.
What I am asking is why do I need to keep paying for a service that I cannot rely on? I have missed important calls, one of them regarding a family member passing away. I can barely make any calls. The data is really slow, pathetic. I cannot count on the Sprint network to do any of the basic functions that I am paying for.
I have tried to call Sprint to get any type of conpenssation or to get them to let me move but they keep telling me that it will all be better.

OK. you obviously didnt read everything... and thats ok. thank you for your opinion but that's not going to happen.
Selling my phones to pay an EFT because of spotty service is not justifiable.
If it has been driving you crazy which it seems to have since you miss important calls. Go with Verizon which will probably solve all your problems.

You not being happy in no way entitles you to get out of a contract fee free. Network vision is supposed to dramatically increase usability and from what I've read from people it has. For every four people you know that's having service issues I can guarantee there's a hundred who don't. You're on a website with information on different things to try to fix any possible problem. If you truly don't like the service suck it up and pay the etf

I think the OP is asking what the suggested method is for convincing Sprint that he should not have to pay any fees to terminate service because essentially Sprint is not upholding their side of the contract. In other words, what is the procedure for claiming breach of contract on Sprint? And yes, breach of contract is a legal means to get out of a contract without being obligated to pay any fees and sometimes is enough to get rewarded compensation for those months that you were paying for and not receiving service.
I'm in mostly the same boat as the OP but fortunately the only thing I ever use is text messaging and data through wifi so it doesn't bother me that I can't make or receive calls at work or home much less get any kind of data at either location besides wifi. For the most basic of plans, Sprint charges me less than Verizon would which is why I moved to them but it is a bit disappointing to have a phone where 1/2 of the features (arguably the more important 1/2) don't work.

Force roam all the time like crazy. I have seen couple people who were asked to leave sprint due to that with no etf. Under no circumstances I would do that but that's what others have done before.
When Network Vision took place around my area, things got really bad until everything was set up and running. Well worth the wait

If they are aware of a problem in your area with service and have no eta u can cancel with no etf. When sprint Renegotiated its deals with Verizon and the coverage shrank in certain areas I know for a fact they let 100's if not thousands of people cancel freely so I see this as no different

In my book i cannot stay with Sprint out of principle. Because of them my phone never ringed when my grandfather called me on the night before he died.
My eft after talking to a representative is only 100$.
It should be zero if your phone doesn't work.
Sprint cost me $300 dollars a few weeks ago. Good like trying to get anything out of them.

You might want to voice up on sprint forums rather than on XDA, there are few sprint employees here.
Or put your phone up on MP if its a epic touch for example post it cheap around $150-175 for a quick sell and use that money if they do end up charging you $100.

There was a cell site that covered my gf's old workplace and the bowling alley across the street we bowled at that was a data black hole for years. I don't know if it's improved but we don't go there anymore. There are just some buildings that are horrible for rf penetration. The moment you step outside, you get service and signal. There's always the possibility that there's some electronics or machines in the building that are creating interference in the frequency band these phones operate in.

heres a great idea....instead of complaining why dont you be proactive and cancel ur service and go to another carrier. Other than that xda is not a site to whine and complain about sprint or your service which most of us do not experience since we do not live where you do.

I've been using some serious roaming data with Sprint trying to get them to cancel. Currently I've used 4gb of roaming data, in a previous month I used 2gb of roaming. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the termination? Will this termination be my single line or my whole account with three lines?
I really cant wait to get the hell away for Sprint; they are a piece of **** company.

I'm not going to give Sprint any extra money for their lame service. They changed my email to text function without notifying me; when I asked about it they told me it was a network upgrade causing me to get delayed email to text functions. Turns out they now block email to text mesaging. This is the primary function I need on my phone for my job as a firefighter.
When I asked Sprint about this, they told me too bad. So screw them and I'll roam away till they cancel me. Thanks for your helpful advice though.

Sprint often update the small details on our contracts/service and almost every time there are parts of the change that qualify under our agreement as something that effects you negatively.
Keep up to date on Sprint news and wait for such a change... you have l 30 days after a change in which you can amicably part ways.
Also I keep hearing about "airaves" or something like that... I guess they'll set you up if you are in a coverage zone with no coverage.

The problem with airwaves is they are basically using your home network connection for free to make up for their crap network. This works great for them and will provide better network service in my home; I'm just not interested in patching their network at my expense.
This also does nothing to fix my email to text messaging that they lied to me about. I checked my bills back for the previous 15 months and didnt see anything about a change in their agreement. Is this in the news and updates section or do I need to go over Sprints general terms and conditions every month with a microscope and compare to the previous month? I would assume they would be obligated to highlight or make a special area of changes.
ive seen people get kicked off for 5 gigs, and people who use 10 gigs of roaming and no cancellation. theres a thread here of a person who used 97 gigs of roaming in a month and hasnt been kicked, and its been about a month or so since he used that data. so my best guess is that it depends on who looks at your data usage and if they wanna kick you off or not.
while i used to say just pay the etf, now i can kinda see why people wouldnt wanna give another dime to sprint. Pretty soon im going to t-mobile with a nexus 4. 500 minutes a month, unlimited everything else, better service, speeds, etc and all for about $25-$30 cheaper then what im paying now. Sprint has some dark times ahead of them if they dont get their act together

I'd recommend you read the terms of your contract.
My understanding was that if they changed anything that effects your ability to reasonably use what you pay for in the first they should have first notified you of the change, and then you should have had a chance to wiggle quietly out of your obligations... but my interpretation may be too liberal.
Any Sprint employees reading should chime in with any corrections

Yeah, I'd love to hear a resposne from Sprint on this. They seem to keep beating around the bush or accidentally getting disconnected when they dont have an answer; then not calling back. I get pissed even thinking about how ****ty I've been treated by Sprint. I'll continue to drag them thru the mud till I'm out of their grasp. Till then roam on and wait.

Tell me about it.. somebody other than myself has access to my sprint account and consequently, my phone.
Sprint says it's "not possible" but submitted it to the "Fraud Department" anyway.
I'm waiting for the call back within 3 days from weeks ago.

Remember, cancelling your service is more of a last ditch effort on our part.
It is true that you should be able to wiggle out of contract should they decide to change it, but that is likely very subjective; the changes that would allow as such likely fit into certain "categories". I.e, jacking up your rate would probably qualify, but discontinuing a minor service probably does not (not minor to you, of course, but you are most definitely in the minority of people who actually took advantage of that service). Though, this is some conjecture on my part, a rep would probably offer a better answer; I'm a technician, I don't deal with contracts.
Now as far as you trying to get kicked off (which I won't officially condone), it's generally not determined by a set gross amount of data used while roaming, but rather a large majority percentage of your total data used per month. The number needs to be high, sure, but it won't do you any good unless it accounts for something like 90%+ of your data usage.

Thaks for the information and perspective from the technical side. Yes, this may seem as a little issue from Sprint's side, but in fact its the number one reason I have and carry my phone. As a firefighter I'm on call 24/7 and when the **** hits the fan we get notified by "email to text" or group texting. When Sprint took this away, they took my response to my community away after hours. Still they could not give a ****.
I'm not "trying" to get kicked off but with recent Sprint network changes; for the worse in my area, my phone is roaming a majority of the time. I will not allow Sprint to use my home network to patch their POS system with an airwave. What I will continue to do is use my data eventhough its roaming most of the time. Currently I've used 4GB or roaming and 800MB of non roaming data. I hope this cost Sprint and they cancel me; in the meantime I'll continue to spread the word of their ****ty service, both customer and network. In the end it will cost them more money and lost customers than if they would have let me out of the contract due to a change THEY made, that disrupts my service.

Actually, this is a much more informative, concise, (and probably far more accurate ) than any other department that I've dealt with.
That's one thing I've learned ...if you aren't talking to one of the techs you may as well be talking to a squirrel..
