I bought a HTC Desire branded to Orange UK trough eBay when i was working there last month. The First thing i did was to debrand it using the 1.15.405.2 that i found on MoDaCa, and i bought a unlock key on eBay. This solution worked pretty well until the OTA update showed up, the i got the known WiFi issue. That was no biggie either, just installed the RUU of the 1.21.405.2 and the new Radio, and everything seemed to be perfect again
BUT THEN, two days ago, my phone suddenly lost it's connection to the my mobile operator . I tried to swap my sim card with another sim card, and the result was that my HTC Desire wouldn't get connection while my sim card worked well in the other phone. I also browsed trough my menus to try to find something that might be wrong, but no luck. If i tried to connect to my mobile operator manually, i got a message saying something like "SIM-card doesn't allow connection to this network".
Yesterday morning, i called HTC to try to find out if this might be a hw or sw malfunction, and he advertised me to do a factory settings restore and felt pretty confident that it only was the sw letting me down. I did as he suggested and boom, it worked...for about 5-6 hours, then it came back. As if that wasn't annoying enough, a factory settings restore didn't do the trick this time, and neither did a reflash with the goldcard. I even formated my mSD to be sure there wasn't any kind of virus on it.
So please, if anyone in here got a tip regarding sw, let me know. I'm helpless without my dear phone...
Hmmm this is my biggest concern... I'm just about to buy an ebay Orange Desire and flash it with a stock ROM and unlock it.... kinda worrying as I'm no Linux man really...
im not sure if its the same thing but i have lost conection to t mobile on my desire twice now. first time was fixed by re entering the apn. this time no change. the differance is mine is un branded. i also cant do mms any more.
Unbranded and debranded, same ****, isn't it? Niter means branded...
Seems like i'm not the only one with this problem: http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/5...nt-re-connect/page__view__findpost__p__405655
Lots of Vodafone users in that forum has similar issues, but most of them seems to have a workaround by turn off the back on, or go by airplane mode to get signal back, tat doesn't work for me. I tried to flash my phone once more, but still no luck.
I'm considering a root operation and install android 2.2 aka froyo, but i'm not even sure if that is possible since i got the bootloader version 0.80...
ive just got mine working again by resting the apns to default.
mms still not working though. i hope its not a voda problem i just paid off t mobile a years contract to join voda due to terrible reception and crap tech support.
what is that, and how do you do it? I would guess that a reset to factory default and/or a complete reflash would take care of such, whatever it is...
Yep I was about to ask the same thing! what is it and how do you turn it on/off?
go to settings - wirless & networks - mobile networks - access point names - then press the menu key and hit reset to default.
hope this helps you
That did the same thing as a "reset to factory defaults", but still doesn't work
I've an unbranded unlocked desire on 3 UK with original firmware and mine does drop out occasionally but always comes back perhaps its a desire quirk !

Suppose so, but unlike you and many others, mine doesn't come back I was hoping for a fix for this issue, but i'm afraid were talking about hw malfunction, let's hope i'm wrong...
Little update, just followed this guide, but that didn't change anything. As far as i know, i now got some kind of rooted version of HBOOT 0.75 and fw.ver. 1.15.405.4, dunno about radio version. But it also says that i'm not able to install a custom rom with this rooted version, but i might be able to completely root it now and then install a custom rom?
Yet another update, i did install the 2.2 Froyo following this guide, and unlike the HTC roms, this one indicates that i do have full/optimal connection to my mobile operator, but it still won't let me call, just replies with 'Mobile network not available'.
I kinda courages me to scream out loud ****!!! Yes, i mean it...
Feedback would be nice
Just a thought, may i be that the guy i bought the phone from could have reported it as stolen with the intention of getting an insurance fee? And as a result of that, my phone have been closed by the operator? Don't even know if they mind doing such across the border. So the question would be: Is there any way to find out if my phone has been remotely closed?
Call your carrier.... they will be able to tell you if the phone is connecting to the nextwork correctly... ask them if not... why not?
I second that suggestion, try calling your carrier. Also I have found that switching the internet on directly through settings rather than using the widgets solved my connection problem.

Yep, i got contact with the seller from eBay, and he is very helpful, so he will do what he can while i will call my carrier first thing in the morning. Seems like there might be a glitch here, but i'll keep you updated on my progress.
argh, it seems like i wont get anywhere with my phone. I'm considering trying to change the IMEI, i know it's illegal, but i paid £360 for this device, and atm it's useless to me. If i only knew how tho change the imei, not exactly easy information to obtain, not even with google...

So have you found out why your having problems?
ah, sorry, thought i already told u guys, lol. Well, for some reason the phone is IMEI locked. The seller says that he did call to lock a sim card when he lost his iphone, and it might be related since it's the sim that was suppose to be in my phone. however, i think he either claimed the phone stolen to commit insurance fraud, or it's simply stolen. Another thing i came across was that the operator might blacklist the phone if it's unlocked without their blessing, don't really know if they can do that.
Either way, the only way for me to make this phone work is to convince the police that it's not stolen (i need a recite for that which he won't provide me), or to change the imei code with my "awesome" hacking skills...
Hello all,
my Defy is stuck in emergency mode and can't find my carrier anymore (o2). Details:
- only emergency calls possible, no network found
- another mobile in my house gets outstanding connection (o2 aswell), when switching SIMs, it's still my Defy not getting a connection
- wiping the Defy has not changed anything, even with stock settings all I see is the red cross (put my settings back with clockwork recovery)
- an hour or two before this happened I was listening to music with my headphones, but between taking the headphones out and GSM failing I was sending texts
- When doing a search for other carriers I can see some (though not reliably), but not mine
- I bought my Defy via Amazon, so no SIMlock, obviously.
- WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS are all working fine, so they probably have different antennae
- I rooted my Defy, but this was over a month ago, and it was working fine. I also did not install apps or update some existing ones before this happened. I also did not reboot. It just happened. Put it in my pocket and next time I got it out there was the red cross.
In Phone Info -> Status it says under signal strength "-111 dBm 1APU". It all looks like the antenna is broken, but I didn't hit it, drop it, put it into water or hurt it in any way before this happened or the 3-4 days before. So I'm really lost here.
Anyone? Thanks in advance.
Hi. Have the defy for about a month now. Same issue since first day. Dont know whats wrong. Found out that after 4-5 reboots its ok and lasts till next reboot/switch off. So try turn it on/off 4-5 time or just download a quick reboot app and do the same to see what happens. If aneyone has any idea on how to fix this?
i get this all the time when i flash my defy thru any other rom......and thus roll back every time to stock (indian) rom.....
try flashing your phone with any compatible rom....new radios might get ure phone working
Same problem here. First time today, spontaneous, after a month of use my Defy, non rooted, never unlocked, standard noMOTOBLUR, just like as it was bought from store. Moto_Versiuo.2.34.1.MB525.Retail.en.SEA
None of these worked to restablish the radio connection: succesive reboot, manual/automatic network search and choose, succesive airplane on/off. I didn't check the signal parameters.
I thought that the SIM just burned, removed and try it on another phone and everything was OK. When put it back in Defy, the network connection was established.
The experience was very strange and my final verdict was that the SIM just moved a little from its initial position.
BUT now I realize the problem is more complex and I don't know what caused it !
I have also noticed that the sim card slot gives a little more space for the simcard to move (at least on my defy). Might be a prob with the sim card being old or something (mine is from 2005). For now i'll just try to keep my phone on (seems i finally found stable settings for setvsel, so no more unexpected reboots).
An answer from motorola's official support forum is just remove the simcard and clean it with some cloth...
This is definitely a sim slot/card problem. If bought from amazon they will oblige to change it without any money. I did the same but not for this problem.
If you think there is some problem with software, which is unlikely then flash an sbf and see if things are fine.
To begin with flash chinese froyo sbf. It is downgradable to any previous firmware you were using and very flexible.
Hope this can solve your problem. Get back on what the result is.
Same here...
My defy got network yesterday at 07pm til mid-night.
before, since 16 (11pm) til 19 (7pm) before it function again.
and now, its bloked.
i rooted my cell one month ago, then, probably thats not the fault of z4root.
Sorry about my badass english, i still in upgrade mode.
any idea about it guys ?
thnx

Problem solved replacing sim card with a new.
Managed to get a HTC Desire for an absolute steal of a price as the seller had managed to forget his lock pattern and hadn't set up a google mail account to bypass the lock pattern. Having used Android phones before I knew that if I could just figure out the correct combination of buttons on startup I'd be able to reset the phones to factory settings and have a working phone.
So, I quickly bought the phone, figured out the "Power+Vol Down" combination and ran a factory reset from within that menu.
The phone restarted and I went through the setup and everything seemed fine, until I tried to send a text/make a call.
When I send a text message, I get the message sending failed error and it retrys various times before the phone finally gives up and stops trying.
When I try and make a call the phone just hangs for a couple of seconds on the dialing screen, beeps and cuts off (as though I have no signal).
I assumed that the phone had been blocked, hence the seller was selling it so cheap and he had come up with this story of locking it out, but after having a play I realised the internet was working perfectly and I had full HSDPA signal. Now correct me if I'm wrong but I'd have no sort of connection if the phone had been blocked by the carrier?
I assumed this was a software issue and have updated from 2.2 to 2.3 but still the same issue. After updating, I've also realised that I am unable to change network carriers (I'm on TMobile and they now share networks with orange).
My sim works perfectly in other phones and if I put another sim in the Desire, it still has the same issues. The phone is locked to TMobile (not that I think that would matter), running the official HTC 2.3 Gingerbread release and as far as I'm aware my APN settins are all okay.
If anyone could shed any light onto what is going on here, and hopefully to a fix then it would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in adavnce

Hello, For some reason this keeps happening every time, whether i reboot by soft reset or turn the phone off and then on. The time zone setting for "home" keeps reverting back to 'Indiana Time' even though I keep setting it to 'east coast' time. This cost me a doctors appointment this morning because I was relying on the phone as an alarm and havent had this problem. I absolutely dont get it, I keep changing it to east coast and saving the settings, and then the next time the phone has to be restarted or whatever.. it goes right back to Indiana Time... Any ideas?
And now in addition to this, something interesting... my dad told me to check my phone for viruses because he cant open any of my text messages on his phone (not a smartphone, its nothing special), and its only my messages... he keeps telling me every time i send him a text it turns his phone off... hopefully unrelated????? Note: Ive been communicating via text with other people and havent had a problem.
What ROM?
I've never heard of this. I'm (normally) EnergyROM when using WinMo.
ive never heard of this either, texts work fine now. still the same time issue. Im using the at&t stock rom, the 'new' version... this was bought from someone who had a cooked rom before i flashed it back to stock.

Make sure you flash everything back to stock. Relock, all of it.
I can't say that would cause this issue, but if you want it truly returned to stock, you have to take all of those steps. For whatever reason they say flash stock, relock, then flash stock again (probably to make sure you can still flash signed images? It's not a bad idea). Good luck.
I was on the phone (another one, so we could troubleshoot) with at&t for an hour... they tried re-registering my phone, had me look in the regional settings, turn alarms off.. then we ran out of time because the person whos phone i was using had to go.
i was told it was an unlocked phone but it seems no different then my last tilt 2 which i broke. is there a way to know if its unlocked?
And.... whats the procedure for relocking? thanks very much.

Please search (or even read, yeesh) before posting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131 <--- that's a sticky at the very top of the WinMo development section.
You can tell if it's locked or unlocked by looked at the bootloader (tri-color) screen. I can't remember what it'll say when it's locked, but if you see "OliNex" near the top, it's unlocked.
If you got the phone with an aftermarket ROM, and only flashed back to stock - I can almost guarantee it's unlocked.
Thank you, i definitely appreciate it. I tried searching, couldnt find how to relock. thanks again.
OK i fixed it without flashing. I had to go (using HTC SENSE) to that settings tab for htc sense at the bottom of the home screen, then i went to data services, then i went to internet time synch... "Get time from the internet" wasnt checked so i checked that box, "get time from the internet while roaming" wasnt checked so i checked it and it worked. for some reason that was overriding me going into the start menu, settings, clocks and alarms, etc. Damn HTC sense, im wondering how much freakin sense it has! ridiculous...
Yes my phones unlocked...
Why on that thread does it say to only relock if your sending it in for warranty??? Does that really bring it back to the exact locked and stock state the phone was in when it left the factory???? Is that a warning that there may be a problem or two after you relock it??? Id like to relock it since it freezes sometimes at boot up... but like they say, dont fix it unless its broken... I dont want to regret relocking it and have other software or hardware hiccups and issues because relocking doesnt truly bring it back to how it left the factory, im good with more issues lol... thanks again so much.

Relocking doesn't do much, other than disallow the flashing of unsigned images.
I don't know what you mean by freezing at boot, I doubt relocking will help.
Relocking for warranty work is absolutely necessary however - if you send it in, and the device is unlocked, they will *usually* notice and void your warranty site-on-scene. Kinda like jailbreaking for iPhone's, it voids the warranty. So long as you undo any hacks you've put on, the provider is none the wiser. Hence, the only real reason to relock would be if you were sending it in.
But to answer your question, you have to relock and flash stock ROM. Once those two things are done, you are back to factory.
Glad you fixed it tho. I wouldn't have thought to check there - I was grabbing at straws with the relock/reflash thing, just figured it's something to check if you just got the phone. I would leave it unlocked personally, unless you are going to take it in for repair/replacement.
Thank you so much for all your time, info, efforts, and input.. I wont relock it then... I greatly appreciate everything.
I just figured out the sole ONE AND ONLY THING that was causing this problem. I have advanced config, so I have it set so when you go into settings, personal, then phone... Under the GSM/UMTS services tab that I have, you can see settings for "Time Synchronization" along with caller ID, call waiting, etc. Under Time Synchronization if I have "Automatic change time zone and clock" checked (Like it has been) it reverts my time zone incorrectly to indiana, instead of east coast time. I unchecked that box, and this doesnt happen anymore. My clock stays at the right time zone, east coast, no more problems. Why the heck would my phone think im in indiana if i use that setting, i dont get that? That setting is obviously useless if i lets say, traveled to california.. Interesting?...
I've always let the carrier set my time (never messed with any form of time sync, auto time adjustments, time zone changes, etc etc), but I'm on a CDMA carrier that distributes NITZ properly. Never had to worry about the clock being off.
SYMPTOM: can't see any mobile networks
BACKGROUND: I've been using htc one x for a month now. Initially on three, but their signal was unusable at home, so sim-unlocked and switched a couple of weeks ago to giffgaff ( a virtual network on top of the UK o2 network).
All has been fine, until today. I sent a few texts & calls in the morning, and mobile data was working. Since then, I can't see any mobile network.
wifi is fine.
Search Networks pops up "Error while searching for networks" and finds none.
No software changes of any sort since last successful call. No changes at all today, at least until I tried to diagnose the problem.
Running stock rom, with the WW update of a couple of weeks ago (1.28.771.9.CL56522 release-keys) -- neither S-OFF nor unlocked bootloader.
Nothing obvious to me in the normal or radio logcat logs.
The only thing I did after the last successful call was to run sensorly to try and map a trip. I've used this before without any problems. It got no connection but I thought nothing of that. I've since uninstalled it just in case it could somehow be interfering with the radio.
THINGS I'VE TRIED:
No, the airplane mode isn't on, and mobile is. I've toggled airplane from settings and power switch, many times
recreated the APN
checked other phones - yes there are a number of networks visible
tried the original o2 sim - same problem
safe mode
cold boot
reboot, reboot, reboot
obviously I haven't pulled the battery...
turned off wifi, in case it was somehow interfering
HTC diagnostic tool
factory reset
confirmed imei is not blocked
Any ideas? Bearing in mind that I'm looking for something which can happen spontaneously.
Interestingly, while writing this I've just noticed that Baseband version shows as Unknown. That worries me - is it possible that my radio partition has spontaneously corrupted itself?
I did speak to 02 support - they said to take it into a shop for warranty repair. I don't want to try a custom ROM just yet -- not when I might have to use the warranty. But is there any way to force it to reinstall the stock rom (preferably not involving windows)?
I have the same problem as well and flashing custom roms did not solve it for me. But for me even the IMEI number is shown as UNKNOWN...I haven't done anything special to get this issue, one day when I woke up the phone could not connect to any network.
I have tried a lot of different methods but with no success. I don't think we can do anything about the baseband without S-OFF.
If a hard reset fails, then it's time to think about returning the unit. Either get a refund or get it replaced.
This may be irrelevant; but I've had this happen to me on my GNexus. I solved it by going back to stock and it just fixed itself overnight.....
my HTC One X did the same after about 2 weeks. Gave it back to supplier, waiting my replacement.
Even tested with a different SIM card, did a hard reset. Problem stayed the same.
Im curious did any of you find a resolution to this? it happened to me a while ago but yet to fing a solution. HTC refuse to fix under warranty because it is unlocked.. i am currently waiting for the next official update to see if that fixes anything but the way things are looking that could be a while..

It sounds like a fault, probably the radio chip has just stopped working, no software is going to repair that. If it was a software problem, there would be hundreds or thousands of people all having the same issue.
