From what im reading here on XDA everyone is saying yes.. which surprises me but HEY LETs GET FLASHING xD

Yes.
I've flashed a few Skyrocket roms on my Hercules and the only thing extra you have to do most times is flash the rotation fix.

Do you need to flash a different kernel (such as one made for our phone) or will one for the skyrocket work?
I like my Roms the way I like my women..... Clean and smooth

The ones I've used have all come with skyrocket kernels so I'm assuming we just use the kernels for the skyrocket. I haven't tried using any of the hercule's kernels on them though.

This might be a stupid question but I noticed that some of their Roms come with the siyah kernal If we are to use the kernel that comes with their Roms then would the dual boot capabilities be available?

Is it possible to flash stock S3 rom onto S2?

Is it possible to flash the stock Galaxy S3 ROM onto an Galaxy S2 (and have it work)?
If it's not possible to flash the stock ROM, is anyone working on a port or something that is very close to stock?
The S2 is my first android, and I haven't had the need to root or flash a custom ROM yet. I recently applied the ICS update though, and it's driving me crazy. I hate some of the changes.
Thanks for the help.

Unless it was ported version, no. Absolutely not. You will brick your phone by doing so.

Thanks, I suspected as much.
I will look around for the andy x 15.3 rom, and read the guides on how to flash it.
Thanks again!
Try the Jedi mind trick ROM its pretty darn close to an s3. I'm running it now its pretty fast. Take a look in the dev forums. Its a very stable rom

to do all that you have to flash a recovery (cwm)...and thats rooting ur phone...i dont understand why anybody hasnt mentioned that...thats the only way you can use the roms they mentioned...and if your gonna do all that...i think the most stable rom is darkside v8 ...or you can use the newest jelly bean rom...they are coming along very nice...and jelly bean is all that...
The S3 and S2 have diffrent processors and a completely different hardware. You will have a very expensive paper weight. Ive heard many good things thought about Jedi Mind trick, that it has many S3 features.
I am running the Jedi Mind Trick ROM on my S2 and it doesn't look much different than my gf's S3 (obviously some things are different). She works for a "technology" company and it kills me that she has a nicer phone than I do - for now. The Jedi Mind Trick is probably as close to an S3 you can get on an S2 IMO.

Kernel vs Moden

Ok. I want to clarify a few things. I'm still a bit confused on a Kernel and Modem.
If my understanding was correct, the modem only deals with the radio.
I see my kernel based on my ROMs saying something like FF18. So are the Kernels names similar to Modems? Do I need to get an AOSP Modem if I'm running CM9 (or other AOSP ROMs)? I've always been a little indifferent.

Yes, modems = radio thing . You can run any modem with any ROM so you don't have to change it. I've always used the EL29 modem.

Modem = radio yes.
It's possible to have differing kernels, modems and ROMs all on the same device by the way. Take a little time and do some research before you turn you phone into a shiny paperweight.
Good luck
Modems and kernel are named the same because they come out same official Samsung build. Ff18 is related to the date it came out. Modems are universal and can work with any rom but a kernel is specific to the os type. So aosp roms need an aosp kernel. Not always like this but in the case of our phone you do.

Thanks for the many different answers. I was thinking that very thing you all said. I just wanted to make sure. I came from an HTC and we had "radios". They weren't call modems. Just making sure that's that. I do try and research. For example using a Safe Recovery and stuff like that. LoL!! As you can see I'm trying to do research and make sure modems are okay with any ROM. Thanks again everybody. Thought I say this before more people start answering. LoL!! Now time to go try and flash that FG20 Modem. =.P

Samsung calls it a modem cuz it includes software for all of the hardware radios. HTC has theirs separately as radio, 4g, pri, NV and samsungs has all that in one file instead of broken up into 3 or so separate files
We are legion, for we are many.

Research can only help and make your time way more enjoyable. As brooksyx said there are some ROMs that MUST have a specific kernel (or particularly moded 'safe' kernel), those being the AOSP/AOKP and CM builds so be careful.
Chris41G, Agat, rujelus22, sleshepic and a few others have done an incredible job of making 'safe' kernels and keeping the 'bricking monster' from rearing it's head. sfhub and Garwynn also deserve a shoutout for working in figuring out the eMMC brick bug stuff. Hard to thank them enough for the work.
There are so many very good and really cool devs here. Just make sure you take the time to help yourself first and most here will help you.
Have fun.

[Q] Best rom and best kernel for T999V

Hi all! I want to know what is the best Rom and the best kernel for the SGH-T999V. My carrier is Videotron.
Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
Define best. Are you looking for best performance, longest battery time, coolest custom features, etc?
Battery life and coolest feature
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
^ I have same question. Whats kenrel comparati with T999?
AOKP tends to have the most custom features out there and is pretty stable from what I've read. CM10 has the biggest community and the most support so it'll be the first to get a fully stable release.
And for battery life, I'd suggest Lean Kernel and don't overclock anything.
How can I install Leankernel without bricking my phone?
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
Put the .zip file on your SD card then use ROM Manager to boot into CWMR. Wipe cache and then wipe Dalvik cache. Flash from there. I would assume since Videotron is combined with the T-Mobile forum all the ROMs and kernels for T-Mobile would also work for your phone. The only difference that I can tell from T-999 and T-999V is the 999V is Canadian. Other than that just don't flash any T-Mobile specific modems or radios and you should be good.
Ok so the kernel and the radio are not tbe same things. Im sorry I am totally noob in this.
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
Don't sweat it. We've all been there before. There should be a sticky in one of these sub-forums with a TON of information about what everything is.
And yes, the kernel and radio are not the same. Think of the kernel as the engine powering everything and the radio as what interprets the signal you get from your provider. It's a bit simplified, but it's an accurate description. As long as you avoid flashing T-Mobile modems and radios you should be in the clear. To be honest, I've messed with radios before and it's really not worth the hassle 9 times out of 10 so you're really not missing out being with Videotron.
I have no doubt that stock kernel is and always will be the best kernel possible for this phone. Sammy has done a great job! Kernel devs will do their job(fix and break what they fixed before then break it again so you become a flash addict) but stock kernel will remain the best choice at the end.
Sent from my SGH-T999
SmartassV2/SIO. Not to mention overclocking and other optimizations.
Your argument is invalid.
And flash some roms and kernel just to try can break the phone? Will the performance will stay the samdme?
And thank you for all your answer.

Sorry if it's it's off topic . I want to flash my kernel with Trinity
I'm wondering which is compatible, due to many many files for different roms and etc, for my phone which is Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999, rooted and stock everything. I'm also a noob , too. Brick my phone once and i don't want it to get replaced . LOL .
And I also want to install the AwsomeBeats v3 mod . Is this mod compatible for all Android phone ?
Any suggestions or help will be much appreciated .

It's possible, but not likely. If it was that easy to break the phone there wouldn't be such things as nightlies (ROMs that are updated pretty much every week night). I've had a few instances where I flashed the proper kernel, but it wasn't compatible with my phone. It's a simple enough fix, but nothing close to soft or hard bricking my phone just by flashing. Just make sure you don't do anything stupid like removing the battery mid flash, run out of battery mid flash, flash a ROM for a different carrier, flash a kernel for the wrong carrier (although kernels aren't TOO picky).

To be honest I was interested in trying Trinity myself, but gave up on that. I couldn't figure out what the hell was what and which was the most recent due to the naming of the different versions. Unless there's something you REALLY want that only Trinity offers my only recommendation is to move on. Or find someone here who has a signature saying they use Trinity and ask them which version you want.

I'm glad you are happy with the stock kernel. However, not every kernel works the same for everyone. Therefore, stock is not the right choice for everyone.

it better be touchwiz and be for this device.. LoL I dont know for sure but I bet Jedi would work or faux's kernel... no guarantees though, wait for someone to answer that knows LoL or google it... I never have played around with telus ROMs and TMO kernels together... it should work but again not sure. if you test it let us know the result.

On ICS they would generally mess up the auto rotation, but work otherwise.
Rushing, thanks a lot for this, will be flashing soon.
Any indication the new infamous wipes are needed for flashing the telus 4.1.2? (versus TMo?)

Thanks Rushing. Been waiting to try this, but didn't want to have to go through Kies or ODIN and reroot. Knew someone would come through.
Thanks, a lot. Maybe people can use the telus one for the base of their ROMs now. It's clean of bloat, tethering is native so you don't have to mess around, etc. I mean it's pure TW. I know most custom ROMs are debloated. But where TMO is concerned it can never be clean enough.

I agree, but TMO has wifi calling so that base is quite popular, but I am sure there will be a nice custom telus rom eventually.

TL;DR: before flashing aside from known issues in the second post.
This isn't an AOSP kernel.
Please choose the right version between N7100 (International 3G) and N7105 (International LTE).
The kernels are labelled for their respective target device. You have no excuse in messing this up.
