I got my replacement Defy today and I've noticed the volume rocker seems looser than on my first device. It can be heard rattling when the phone is shook even just lightly and also when the phone vibrates and when I tap on the area of the screen closest to the rocker. The question is will Amazon.co.uk accept this as a valid reason for another replacement? I have to say they were a delight to return to originally however the original problem wasn't as trivial.
Thanks
I would return it if it were mine. The reasons is, I'd be concerned about whatever kind of a seal is supposed to be in the rocker to keep water out may not be tight or may be missing. Just my two cents.
Mine does the same noise, but until now no leaking problems. And I must say that on mine even the power button is a bit loosy.

Same here - loosy power button and volume rocker.
is anyone else having this problem, my dinc is one of the originals got it the day it came out, any way after all this time the power button doesn't quite have a spring in its step if you will lol. its becoming more and more recessed as if its failing and not as easy to press as it use to be. i have to really push on it. any fixes?
There are apps in the market to shut the phone down and you can make the trackpad wake it. However it usually takes a few pushes to wake.

I am beginning to notice this as well, but I can't quite tell (through my silicon case) if the button is actually failing to spring back or becoming mildly obstructed from doing so. 95% of the time it's fine and springs back with the same strength it always has, though, so I'm thinking it's the latter.
I use CM to wake with the trackball. It wakes 100% while charging, but only 1/3 of the time on battery.

I suffer from the same affliction. SURGEON GENERAL'S WARNING: Excessive flashing may lead to hairy palms and blindness!!
I have flashed so many ROM's, kernels and themes that my power button is slowly disappearing below the surface.
I am going to tell my wife: "See honey; I need a new phone 'cause my power button is busted!"

i wonder if you can take those screws out in the back and see if theres any way to like mod it or fix it lol i guess ill wait for it to be fubar
Mine is also recessing. My protip is to grow your fingernail out and use that to press it. ;]
Mine just did this last week, I don't find it a bother though. Seems like just normal wear and tear, the button does get pressed countless times throughout the day.
I used a friends dinc and theirs was almost flush with the rest of the phone
Hi all
Because the One X is quite a tall phone and has the power button on the top, I have noticed that when you're sat down it's quite easy to accidentally hold the power button down for a few seconds and cause a reboot - presumably the power button is pressing against a belt or hip, for example.
My real question here - is there any way to alter the reflexes of pressing the power button down, or increase the time it takes to cause the reset?
Also - has anyone else had the same thing happen? I'm thinking maybe, for practical purposes, the power button is better situated on the side of the phone when the dimensions get to this size...
Yeah, this happens to me.
Having the exact same problem, but with a much cheaper phone - a Samsung Pocket. Complete misdesign IMO and you wonder if the phone was field tested at all when you see things like this getting through - if a hard reboot with a hardware key combination is implemented then several buttons should be required to be held for the reboot to trigger. I just can't carry it in any pocket, will reboot several times a day.
Just ebayed a silicone bumper, hoping that cutting a hole in it where the power button is will make it recessed and that this will solve the problem. Maybe something similar is applicable to this One X phone.
I have the same problem, really annoying
would be interested too if there is a solution for this "problem"
Thanks for the replies guys - I suppose it's some consolation that it's not just me!
I'll let you know if I ever discover a "fix".
+1 Same happens to be. Are we sure it's just holding down the power button for to long and not a software problem causing reboots?

I originally thought the same thing, but when the only correlation I found was how tight my trousers were that sort of gave it away

Hi,
Just received my M8 and the first thing i noticed picking up the device is a rattling sound. Its already noticeable when i gently move it.
Its very loud when i shake it.
See the video (turn your volume all the way up please) :
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12339412/2014-04-05 10.37.46.mp4
Any more people having this ?
don't worry man, is the camera lens for the focus
It is the power and/or volume button slightly loose. Put your finger on the buttons just enough to hold them stable, then see if the rattle goes away. Seems to be a pretty common problem.

Why do we get this rattling sound stuff thread in every damn device forum

so is the power button slightly loose for everyone? or is that a hardware / assembly fault? what do you think=
I've had the phone for a few days now (ordered last week on Amazon), and thought I'd share my experience so far.
Edge Sense is buggy. Activating it sometimes activates the volume down button. Sometimes it's REALLY sensitive, and sometimes it just doesn't work. Doesn't really matter how I've calibrated the squeeze level.
These buttons... I understand the frustration that reviewers have, and not even from a defect perspective, but from a usability perspective. I find them too sensitive. I often accidentally press the power button as I handle my phone in different ways (e..g, trying to show a video to a friend on my phone in landscape mode; showing a friend how to use the camera), causing the screen to turn off.
Ghost presses on the volume down and power buttons happen sporadically, but enough times (in one day) to drive me nuts. When in my pocket and listening to music, the volume occasionally lowers (is it thinking I'm pressing the volume down button?). My phone has rebooted multiple times on its own (even into recovery mode on two occasions). It's as if it thinks I'm pressing and holding the volume down and/or power buttons. This happens maybe 2-3 times a day. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it's a HUGE pain, and a showstopping bug IMO.
I feel like when the phone gets hot, Edge Sense and the buttons go crazy with sensitivity and ghost presses.
The volume buttons don't work at all in battery saver mode!
For some reason, none of the buttons work when I have my phone in a car mount that squeezes onto the sides.
I really want to like this phone, because aside from these issues (for me, they're approaching to be dealbreakers), the phone is fantastic. The camera is truly phenomenal. I am really hoping that the upcoming firmware update arrives stateside ASAP, because I'm almost ready to hit the 'return' button on Amazon.

It seems since you have older software, maybe the Amazon units are shipping with older software. I wouldn't know, just a guess. But I'm quite sure an update or two will get better for you.

Yeah, its not "amazon units" or software versions. I have one direct from HTC, 3 days old. WORST buttons ever. Response is so variable its disgusting. And no one here has even mentioned putting a case on this u12+... Do that and buttons work maybe 10% of the time. Absolutely unacceptable...
And if you thing its a great build.... Think again... Those buttons are held on with double-sided tape... LMFAO
And you can get the back cover off without tools, its just adhesive all the way around.... One fingernail and your're in! But on the bright side, you can replace the battery really easy yourself... So enjoy!

There are many more here who disagree, of course I will find out for myself Thursday. So far I see only two of you pissing all over it, one who does have an older software version, 1.15 when there is a version that is 1.21 who is not having these issues.
About the stick on buttons, glad they are so easily replaceable. LMAO

Is this happening with Bluetooth? When using phone speaker it works here fine.
Also what's the setting you left your phone's squeeze sensitivity at while these volume slide and phantom power happened?
I read that you tried a few settings but what's the one you stayed with where this mostly happened.

I'm getting more of a laugh out of this than you all are. It seems I'm not the one hung up on HTC. I'm not the one whining about it and can't realize I can just move on if it's that bad. I don't hang in threads of phones I don't want or like just to rub it in on how bad they are LMAO

It's really strange... The volume buttons work when the screen is off and you have something playing or paused. If there's nothing playing at all, they don't work.
At least this is happening with my phone. I wonder if anyone else experiences this. It certainly seems like it's by design.

Personally I've never had them be unresponsive (except for in a car mount and when the screen is off with no audio playing/paused weirdly). They're pretty responsive for me. In fact, they're TOO responsive. They're too sensitive, which is prone to a lot of accidental presses. I'm actually trying to avoid touching the buttons.
It's the ghost presses and edge sense freakouts that drive me up the wall, as seldom as they happen.
no problems on my USA U12+ 128GB straight from HTC preorder hardware version 3 and i even dropped it once in the bathroom from the window ledge and it fell on the tile floor and not even a scratch also it was without the case so im glad its not shattered but my volume buttons have been very solid and works well with edge sense if u set it to sensitivity level 3 or higher for me
I have some problem on mine too, the volume down button is extremely sensitive and a slight touch will trigger it, the top one is harder but I like it better since it makes no problem. The power button is sensitive but less than volume down so it's not so bad.
Also when holding the phone normally by the side or when in my pocket the down button is triggered by pressing or slightly bending the top of the screen, it's really annoying when listening to music in the car or making a call.
Bought mine from HTC last week with the 1.15 version. If there is no update on this by the end of next week I'll have to send it back.
I hope it's gonna get corrected, I'm with htc since the hd2 and never was disappointed so I'd hate to switch brand when close to everything else about this phone is perfect.

The Update is already near. I hope it'll roll out during the upcomming week. As far as I know it adresses Edge Sense and the button sensibility as well as battery life, and according to the tweet by LlabTooFeR it'll even bring the June 2018 security patches.
I for one have absolutely no issues with the buttons till now, however, seeing the number of people who are having problems makes me wonder if it's my settings or if I have not used my phone that much to experience any niggles.
I have kept the sensitivity to the third bar from the left.
