*Edit: My phone is bootloader unlocked and it is Lt28i.
Here is the post i follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594947
Instruction:
Download only the SystemUI.apk (the rest doesn't work on ion and don't try, it will cause bootloop!!!!!!)
Change the permssion of SystemUI to
Owner -> Read and Write
Group -> Read
Others ->Read
Copy the file to /system/app (by using Root Explorer or whatever)
reboot the phone, and it works!!!
Warning: Make sure you know what are you doing before you actually do! If you do not follow this instruction, it might end up bootloop or the phone won't power on until you pull the battery (yes, i mean pull the battery)

Okay so what did you do to root it? Do you have an unlocked bootloader?

yes, beside unlock bootloader there's no way we can get root from GB. currently all the methods in Xda doesn't work at all, i tried all of them.

Which method did you use to root once you unlocked the bootloader? And I take it you used the Sony official way correct?

i just use the Unsecure kernel that posted on development to get rooted. The way i unlock bootloader is using the sony official way. I don't think there's testpoint trick on this CPU yet.

That's what I figured. Just wanted to be sure. Have you tried relocking the bootloader? Just wanna know if the file works.

The relock file work pretty well. But I have to reflash the stock kernel after that, otherwise the phone wont power on. Of course it will lost root after that. I tried couple times already, so pretty sure it work

Hmm well I wouldn't consider that working. Will have to pass that on to the guy that made it so he can look into that. Would be nice to have a working relock file where you don't have to reflash stock after that.

Is it possible to root Arc with Gingerbreak?

Yo folks! Quick question; can I root my Arc with Gingerbreak?
It looks too easy
Do I need unlocked bootloader? (It isn't a problem, gonna do it anyways at some point, just wondering is it required to do first.)
Thanks!
Use zergRush, you don't have to unlock your BL.
Yes,it is possible.
but try any one of these...

They are even more "easier"..just a matter of some clicks and enters..
Thank you guys! The actual rooting guide looked pretty complicated, and almost every guide the files were located in multiupload, and the site is down so...
Oh yeah, is CWM included in the exploit or do I need to install it later?

Install it via SE Extreme Tweaker or CWM Auto-Installer, if you're on locked BL.

William it did not work for me... Even though i did all this... Anyone knows why?
I think unlocking the bootloader is easier

6.1.A.2.55 ROOT Possible

Hi all,
Just find something...
Downloaded the latest Sony xperia s rom 6.1.A.2.55 installed it than when i tried to root with it failed so got an idea...
Took me a few hours and a lots of trial and error and re flashing to finally get it.
This is what i did to get ROOT.
Step 1, Download my zip and copy on your phone . I only created the zip and the script and used su binary from my saved rom and the supersu apk
Step 2, Download the rom 6.1.A.2.55 (you can google for it)
Step 3, Download and flash Advanced Sock kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729280 and flash it. Do not reboot into the OS (I don't know if it can cause problem but when i did, my was constantly rebooting.)
Step 4, Start recovery and flash my zip MYSUPUBLIC.zip it will flash the CWM Recovery is well
Step 5, Flash back the Stock 6.1.A.2.55 kernel.sin
Step 6, Reboot and enjoy :victory:
"Sorry for mistakes but i rushing to sleep, i work tomorrow @ 0600 not even bother to set up the phone...:crying:"
You can always root an unlocked bootloader easily. There are plenty of tuts available already.

No, you need to be unlocked to flash different or 3rd party custom kernel.
Would like to create my custom kernel, but i always end up no boot state :-o...

Good idea, but nobody bothers to share it.
We can even flash the original kernel then on to the locked bootloader, which would ultimately give a rooted phone in the end (at least in theory).
I could post my vwm backup, but is been modded by now, and a few things i've removed like themes add sony apk's.
And thanks for anyone who's programs i used.

Cyanogen Mod VS Stock xperia 4.x. What's better?

Guys i cant deside, should i unlock my bootloader (and delete the ability to update my phone to newer stock firmwares) and install cyanogen mod, or should i stay on stock with some cwm addons stuff in it? I heard that cm works longer than stock (i mean battery life), faster (im not 100% sure bout that), but if i stay on stock i can get sony support stuff with those drm keys and ****, and it looks cooler imao >D. I wana know ur opinions.
tbh. its not even something that should be dwelled upon.
I wouldnt own a Sony phone with a pure stock ROM.
Or any phone for that matter.
CM is and allways will be faster, have better battery (with the right kernel),
look better and you'll have more options.
You can allways just relock your bootloader if you want to go back.
so you sayin that i can get DRM keys back if i relock bootloader? Coz i dont like all this "dont update ur phone via wifi or it gona be dead" stuff
Cm will probably be faster, with better battery life. The main difference is that it puts YOU in the driver's seat. CM is bare bones. You'll notice it's a much smaller file size than any carrier ROM. If you don't like the way it looks, change it. If you don't like the performance, change it. Invest in utility apps like titanium backup and rom toolbox. Nandroid before you do anything. Most importantly; Read, read, READ!

what DRM codes. I'm guessing something Sony specific? Why would you bother going through the steps of un rooting your phone?

Threads like this are not allowed. Why you don't read RULES?
Sent from my LT26i using xda developers-app
I read somewhere that if i unlock bootloader then so called "DRM codes" will be wiped, that means that i cant use standard SUS (sony thing) program to upgrade my stock firmware to newer versions, and if i want to update my firmware by air (wifi) it gona get bricked. I dont want to take THAT risk of not being able to install stock firmware with all the functionality (i mean firmware update support).
I have a RElocked bootloader and I allways update it with WiFi,... No brick at all
and what about sony apps? do they work?
Except to Bravia Engine(but I think it even didn`t worked from stock) everything's fine.

With an unlocked bootloader u can flash newer firmware manually.
Btw, there is a Sony theme for cm. And there is also a CM 10 Sony like - Rom.
I never ever needed those drm keys.

Would you mind sharing more feedback of what you have already tried for rooting?? and which steps are you failing at? so we can help you out :cyclops:
I've tried a zip package from doomlord
i'm using XAS, base on .200 ROM, all i do to root was this.
1. UL BL
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2309117
3. place this SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42005929&postcount=3 onto internal storage
4. flash SuperSU-1.25-Busybox-1.20.2-UPDATE.zip in recovery
that's what i did on both XAS
I'll try it right now
Done. SOLVED
Now it works just fine.

I hadn't realized the bravia engine would go away as well... I've rooted... and basically done what I really needed to do thus far to it... I'm just exploring the other options... assuming my wife wants to use it as her daily phone, I won't be messing with it much after the initial setup anyway.
i root my xperia with KINGO ROOT, simple and fast

Well as per recent info, it tracks many info from the phone while rooting as in IMEI number, some personal info etc. so it still being reviewed, unless its confirmed to be safe its better not to use Kingo Root.
