Edit solved - apparently USB brick causes charging issues??
Fixed running USB brick fix
My phone will charge when switched off. If I switch it on ... Still charges...
But if I disconnect - then reconnect charger... It wont charge.. I then have to switch off. I tried a spare battery too.
On battery status it always says charging (on USB) ... Can someone tell me if it states (on mains) when plugged into to mains usually? I can't remember ...
Hardware fault then.... ?
tried differen't ROM/ Kernel? or use RUU to restore to factory settings and see if problem persists.. if yes then you already saved yourself the time of doing so to send it to HTC
Its also using more battery ... Not changed kernel or rom but since this is a new randomly occurring problem I still doubt its software...
Never seen or read about this issue... Maybe a new phone is calling me

probably not software related.. but you never know.. could always be worth a try if you have the time.
I'll try changing rom later... Might just get a sensation instead lol
I have damaged battery cells Im losing power fast... So not sure how or when I got a USB brick but it started the same time as serious power drain! And I did nothing different ... Hmm
Hi everybody! I open this thread because I have a problem that I can't resolve: months ago I switched to CM 10.1 from stock ROM and I had that since 2 days ago (when arco68 told that soon he wouldn't develop this ROM for this phone anymore). So I had CM 10.1 alpha1 to alpha6, but my problem started from alpha3: in fact when I installed this release my camera starts shutting down the phone when taking pictures with flash (no matter at what resolution pictures where taken or if the flash was automatic or permanent), but only with battery under about 80% and it didn't appened when the phone it was in charge. So I read a lot of posts where people said it was a battery problem: since mine was one year old and it was rounded I replaced it with a new original one. Unfortunately the problem persisted, so I posted this problem in the thread relative to CM 10.1 ROM and I realized that other people had this problem, except that a lot of them resolve it buying a new battery (LIKE I DID!). So I waited for other releases with the hope it was a ROM problem...since Alpha6, when I realise that it wasn't resolved. So I decided to change ROM to see if it was a ROM problem and I installed a GB-based ROM: Mission ROM. But when I went to camera to take a picture with flash it appened again. So I wanted to know if it was a custom-ROM problem and I reinstalled STOCK ROM from the NANDROID BACKUP I made before installing CM 10.1. Unfortunately the problem continues to persist and it's strange, because It didn't happen before in my stock ROM. The only thing I think It could be it's that the flashlight installed on CM 10.1 broke the LED circuit because I try the full power option (or something like this, I can't remember) and there was a warning. But the strange thing is that I tried with all the 3 ROMs to keep LED on with a widget and the phone never shut down, no matter what was the battery percentage. So I wrote this post to ask someone if there is a reason for this strange behaviour and if it is a solution.
Thank you all
yesterday, i faced this problem, but my rom isnt cm10 by arco, my rom is simplified GB with s3 looks v2
at first i was shocked, and then i try to flash back into stock rom, and the LED works fine
my advice is you must flash your w into another cusrom or even stock rom and wait for the dev's solve this problem
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app
Unfortunately I have already tried 2 custom ROM, and now I have recovered my stock ROM and the problem isn't gone...
me too sometime face same problem !! in more roms not one or too !
There are new develops! Today I noticed that the phone shuts down when taking pictures with flash only if the brightness of the display is over 50%: under this value taking pictures with flash don’t cause the phone to shut down. So my question is: how is it possible? It’s an hardware problem or maybe a firmware one?
Trying to answer this questions I have decided to make an hard reset of my phone, but I read that when the phone reboots after the hard reset it asks an unlock code. I have no idea of what code is this, so I want to know if this is true or not, and if it’s true how can I have this code before making an hard reset?

using CM 10.1 Alpha 6 , i found ur right about taking pictures with flash will turn shut the phone down if the brightness is high , u shall report that problem at the cm10.1 troubleshooting thread to get more testers for it
If you already changed the battery, maybe it's the jack that link battery to the phone...I think so cause you said that when under charge the problemdoesn't happen (because the phone take energy from the charge and not from the phone)...take a look over there...surely it's a mechanicalissue, not roms issue...

ok, but I don't know how to resolve this issue...I will try an hard reset...I think cyanogenmod wrote something in the firmware of the camera that is still present...with an hard reset maybe the firmware will be reset to stock...

I reported this issue in the tread, but many people answer to me that it may be a problem of mine only...
Ok, I think I'll do an hard reset. Is there something to know before doing it (like codes to reactivate the phone, etc.)?
i think is battery....because when the phone is fully charged (or with anoter battery) when shutting photo with flash it stay on
why?
while taking the picture (camera+cpu+ flash (more power than torch) +screen ecc..) the battery voltage drops suddenly if it is damaged and this drop can swich off the phone

Have you tried flashing a different kernel( if its custom of course), or perhaps reflashing the rom entirely? if neither of those work and a different cable\charger doesn't work, it could be the battery. How old is the battery?
Most of the times you can fix these type of errors just shutting down your phone, unplugging the battery and let it down for a while (one minute or more is enough). If not, just try what @matinm90 said before me. I don't think format a new ROM is the simplest way to solve the problem tough.
Let us know if you solve the problem!!

yeah technically flashing a new rom or the same one but fresh may not help, but hopefully it would narrow things down lol
Thanks for your help guys I tried a different kernel(franko), a different rom(miui) in which the battery indicator says its charging but battery is still discharging!! I don't think its a battery problem since it charges to a 100% using my friends nexus.

And if you try to go back to stock via fastboot? If that doesnt help I think your USB port is broken..

Hi guys,
It's been a long time I've posted on this forum, I'm really happy to see that the community it's always here.
I have changed my SGT2 7.0" to a new SGT3 8.0" which i really love and it was working so well that i have never take into consideration rooting and changing roms.
The problem starts about last week or two, when a popup message tell me there was a new update for my device (4.4.2).
Everything go well as expected, the update is working but the next day I realize i have a big problem: my tablet now doesn't charge to 100%!
Thinking it was my fault I have rebooted the device and it seems that this trick help a bit (after one or two reboot the tablet start charging normally and go to 100% without any problem) but i have no time for this, i wake up in the morning at 5 am and i have just the time to take a coffee before going to university, this mean no time for:
1- Reboot the tablet
2- Watch to see if it is charging, if not repeat step 1
3- If it is charging, wait for completely charging
And by the way this problem happens every day.
Yesterday I have done the root in my device and now i'm here to ask you: what can I do to solve this pathetic problem without changing rom?
In twrp there isn't an option for "wipe battery stats".
I have attached 3 screenshots from my tablet settings, you can really see what's going on.
As always, sorry for my english
Cheers
I think i have solved the problem.
-Open the tablet
-Disconnect the battery (no need to remove it, only unplug the connector)
-Press the power button for a generous amount of time (from 30 to 60 seconds to make sure)
-Reconnect the battery
-Close the tablet
-Turn on
This seems to work, my tablet is now charging normally as before, without worring about reboot it every morning and wait for fully charging.
Only time will tell me if it's a permanent fix, surely it's not an hardware issue because BEFORE 4.4.2 UPDATE the problem doesn't exists.
Hi all,
I have a vanilla, unrooted tablet which had Marshmallow installed a few weeks ago. It reboots constantly (like I am lucky to get 2-3 minutes out of it). Sometimes it reboots 7 or 8 times in a row until I give up and hold the power button down.
Have cleared cache and factory reset (multiple times). This hasnt solved the problem. I thought this might be an issue with the Google Play Store, as it generally crashes as soon as I run this (as the first thing I do after the reset) - so after one of the resets I downloaded the latest playstore APK and installed it. Also did not login to the play store in case this was corrupted or something. Have tried this without loading ANY apps other than the stock that comes after the reset - but still the issue persists.
All of the above has been done with the SD card removed - and with full charge
Generally it crashes as soon as I try and run any app or go to settings etc. This is even with the completely factory reset and wiped tablet with no additional apps installed.
Having tried everything, am down to the theory of hardware fault - specifically the battery. After the last update (which failed half way through) I had big problems with battery life and the tablet got (and still gets) quite hot. I am thinking something in the new update might have put extra stress on the battery, which after a few weeks has caused it to fail.
Is this possible, and is there anyway in logs etc to tell if this is hardware or software?
Anyway, other than throwing this away and buying a new one - am not sure what the next step to solve this is. (Maybe revert to previous Android?). Any suggestions or help is welcome, but I am thinking of throwing this away and not throwing good money after bad...
(Have emailed Samsung but of course never heard back - so suffice to say my next tab wont be Samsung)
try download your stock firmware and flash it with odin via your pc.
i had problem with my tab...i had restarts always...whatever i do, every few seconds it restarts by itself... but it works normaly on cable so i went to search for a solution and lol i laughed when i saw what was the solution...i removed the backcover fo the device and then just reatached the battery connector cable and thats it and now my tab works normaly even on battery.not sure if u have similar issue but u can try it it will take u 5 min work and also u have video on Youtube how to dissambly galaxy tab S...cheers mate and wish u good luck
I solved this prob yesterday, itb works fine nw, didnt crash since, just open the tablet remove the basttery vlean its pins then reinstall it
U can find vedios explaining hw to remomve z battery
OK - have updated firmware with ODIN (and tried 3 different versions going back to Android 5)
Have undone the back and removed battery and reset cables. Even replaced the battery with one I bought off Ebay
Cant think of anything else, must be a fault on a board somewhere...
I think she is dead. :crying:
Thanks to those who posted and sent me PM's - really do appreciate it.
By the way, it is definitely something to do with the power. When it reboots and it is attached to a USB, the screen flashes up with the empty battery (ie charging from completely empty) symbol momentarily (maybe a second or 2 tops) before flashing up with 64% or whatever the actual battery level is...

If your battery can go from 0% to 64% in a few seconds, the battery connector needs to be resoldered due to cracked solder joints.
This rework only takes 5 minutes , ask a repair shop or anyone knows how to solder for assistant.
