This originally happened on June 29th when the Vicious Liquid Rom (for CDMA/Verizon) came out. - I flashed the jellybean Rom when it came out, and have been having this problem. When I connect my phone via USB, I can only see about 5 folders, most are missing. Also, when I go to my gallery through my phone, my photos do not show up, but when I use root explorer or ES File Explorer, I can find them that way and access them. I've tried turning on/off USB debugging a billion times.
They are all still on my phone.. It shows my phone has 3.5 gigs of free space (so obviously, it's mostly used up)....
I can only see 6 folders:
Pictures
Notifications
MNT
Download
DCIM
After Focus
I also figured out that I can load the files onto my computer using ADB, so Ioaded all of my photos/videos off. A few days ago, I decided to try the Bugless Beast Rom, so I did a full wipe, and the same thing is happening. Also, I can not see any of the photos I took from the Vicious Liquid Rom, only the photos I have taken since I flashed the newest rom.

Anyone? Bueller?
happened to me, Use nandroid back up. The ext/sd is somehow corrupted.
This has been discussed before and nobody has a definite answer/fix for us.
Couple of threads on the matter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775598
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748326
My post on Bixie's ROM thread, there's a couple of suggestions afterwards
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28254742#post28254742
Seems like it has to do with the fact that a new mount point is created ( /sdcard0 ) and therefore /sdcard is not being mounted which is where all the media has been previously stored.
Good luck and let us know of your progress if any
I've tried everything.. Do you think it would fix by me putting the phone back to stock (locking and unroot) and then unlocking and rooting again?
EDIT: Yes, it worked. I had to unload all my photos and everything.. then I re-locked and unrooted.. The locked and unrooted again and re-flashed Jellybean.. All is well.

For the past few weeks Ive been running AOKP and it has been randomly freezing up on me. Its always the same way. I grab my phone from my pocket, I wake it and what ever i try and do doesnt matter cause its frozen. Then in a few seconds its fine. It happens a few times a day. Well I finally got sick of it and switched to CM9 and I started getting the same thing. So I went to Calks ICS 1.5 which ive never had problems on before but it still does it on this rom too. There has to be something wrong with my E4GT. Can someone help ?

I'd say it's probably time for a full wipe. If I've been doing a lot of flashing, I like to wipe out both SD's, odin back to stock and start absolutely fresh. A lot of apps leave file behind on SD and I like to clean up so I know everything is running properly. I posted my method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24056900&postcount=9930
Up to you which one-click odin you use but this way you're ensured a completely fresh start. BTW, you DO use Calk's format all whenever you go to a new rom correct?
Yes I usually use calks format but not everytime . I usually follow the devs instructions and they don't always say use calks format all. Should I use it no matter what?

Ok gotcha, that is a very good question. You mentioned AOKP and I'm not very familiar with it but I do know it is designed very differently than the ICS leak that is out and also CM9 is different also. You may want to ask about AOKP but I think the safest way to go if you're using ICS and want to flash a ROM or Kernel is to ALWAYS Odin (mobile app or from computer) Chris41G's Stock EL26 Kernel from here:
http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/Stock+Repack/EL26/
Flash Calkulin's Format All, and then flash your rom. If you keep doing it that way, you should stay safe.
Now, there are a few kernels coming out for ICS that say they're safe to flash ROM's with but I'm not taking the chance. I hear too many stories about people forgetting what rom or kernel they're using and accidentally bricking their phones while on ICS. I like my phone too much, I'm going to keep using the EL26 method.
I just read today, a couple users on AOKP tried to flash something else from AOKP recovery and they hosed up their phones possibly.
The format all is safe to use and clears all the data and wipes the partitions so you can flash a rom cleanly. That is what it was designed for.
All the freezing started started soon after I started flashing AOKP and CM9. Ive never done a fresh wipe before I've only been flashing for a few months. All I'm interested in saving is my music and if I can my text messages but most important my music. I saw the thread you posted for me but is there anything more detailed that I can use to back up to my PC and to wipe my phone?
I cant figure out how to save my pictures to my PC, as soon as I connect it theres no file anywhere, only the stupid screenshots i took. This phone is a nightmare . Somebody please help me I need to do wipe it clean. Also when I connect my phone to my laptop, it gives me 2 different ports removable disk E, and removable disk D. my pictures are no where to be found. It makes no sense at all. somebody please just give me a detailed description on how to save my pictures to my laptop and wipe this stupid phone clean. I have the EL29 root files and CWM I just need to know how to reset it like it came out of the box.

1. Its not a stupid phone, it works great.
2. Make sure you have the correct Samsung drivers installed on your laptop. Google and you can find them easily.
3. Once your phone is recognized by your PC, copy n paste your files. You will have 2 places to copy from if you did this correctly, one is internal card and the other is external SD.
4. If you can't get these results, you bricked your phone from not reading beforehand.
5. If all else fails, go to download mode with volume down+power when your phone is off and try sfhubs ek02 one click method.
6. Profit.

You are not understanding. I have correct drivers installed and my pc does recognize my phone. ive copied and pasted my music successfully but under pictures is only my screenshots. all the other pictures that i have on here that i would like to save are not here. I know what im talking about ive done this many times. theres obviously something wrong with this phone because when i turn on usb storage i get 2 to pick from. Disk E and Disk D. one gives me more access to my phone that the other . Id like to take a pic of it and show you but as you know i cant take a picture with my phone while its in sync.
why would I wanna use EKO2 method?? it should be EL29 right ??
Always do a full wipe when changing platforms. Ics to aokp, aokp to cm9. You can get away with wiping cache and dalvk cache when upgrading to the next release of same rom usually, but if anything strange happens wipe and reflash.

Look for a folder called 'DCIM' for the pictures.
Also it doesn't really matter EK02 or EL29. I think sfhub said something about EK02 being special in some way but I just can't think of it right now.
EL26 is the other that is good for flashing to ICS. I havent noticed any difference between EL26 and EL29. You don't really need to make a backup on your computer if you just copy your pics over to the SD card. Ive flashed this phone proly 100 times and its never touched the SD card.

He's having issues so I recommended a full wipe which included formatting both the internal and external SD.
Maybe not necessary but a file cleanup couldn't hurt.
OK I'm gonna run the the EL29 full restore one click self extractor . I'm gonna use the reset dataone. Will that wipe my phone enough? Or do I need to do more??
No, that sounds good.

Did you reinstall or restore any apps?

I'm wondering if one of your apps is to blame. You can freeze all bit the necessary ones to see if it makes a difference.

ive been having the same freezing issue since FF02, its pretty annoying and i hope it gets fixed before OTA. if not ill just run a older leak
All I wanted to do was upgrade my stock Takju phone to Jellybean. I don't get to.
It started with the preview. I flashed it. Everything seemed to be okay, except that none of the apps could find any files on my /sdcard. I then realized that programs like Root Explorer and Airdroid saw a completely different /sdcard than what my PC or any phone apps did. I asked around, fixed permissions from as many apps as offered, tried wiping every partition I could think of, but nothing fixed the problem.
So I waited for the "official" build to come out. I figured this time I'd try a "dirty" install, so that the permissions would be where they need to be. The phone refused to boot. It got stuck on the boot animation.
So, I used GNex Toolkit to wipe the phone to factory specs. It was like I just got it. I ran the phone once, Rooted, installed TWRP, wiped everything twice for good measure, installed the JB ROM, and held my breath.
It looked good at first, but it STILL had the same /sdcard issue, but this time had the added fun of the USB port breaking after 30 seconds, making me unable to copy any files over to the fake partition anyway.
So now I'm copying files back to the phone which was restored once again to 4.0.4 (USB port works fine now). I've spent 14 hours on this so far only to end up right back where I started. The thing I find baffling is that, based on what I've read here, I am the ONLY person in the entire world having this problem, despite working with what is, for all practical purposes, a factory fresh phone.
You are not the only person with the SD sdcard0 issue. Perhaps the only person with transfer of file and recognition issues. When the full jelly bean image comes out I am going to flash that hoping it clears up the double SD issue.
butter and jelly please...
I had a similar problem, I had to completely erase the SD card ("fastboot erase userdata" does not work, had to reflash a new image for the sd).
One of the causes is that the /sdcard "partition" points to /data/media in ICS but it goes to /storage/sdcard0 on JB (thanks to XBIRDIE98 for that info). I think the Play Store GNex not wiping borks the filesystem when both of them point to the /sdcard partition. Some apps see /data/media while others see /storage/sdcard0
Yep, I have this **** too. Only negative to 4.1.1 I've found
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I finally got it back to where I started. I had to trick CWM into finding the file because it was in a different folder than where it should be, But, the USB port once again works, so clearly it had something to do with how sdcard0 is setup. I might try it again once a complete image comes out and I can push it with GNex Toolkit.
Why can't there be a "complete" backup that also gets the SD Card/
Glad to hear you got that sorted. Try flashing direct to takju 4.1.1 and skip 4.1
It's nice to hear that someone else had usb problems too. I thought it was some sort of mechanical problem. Maybe I still have hope after all.
Same thing here. No issues with cwm or anything but sdcard0 what I have to

i used ASTRO file manager to make sure the update.zip was in the correct SDCARD folder. Just go to the root folder and you'll find your SDCARD, but it's probably a bit late to be saying this....
Do the AOSP builds of JB (4.1.1) still create this symlink, or whatever, to sdcard0 on fresh installs? Or are the bugs from some weird partitioning a holdover from the GSM ports, which only had 16GB flash memory?
I tried VanirBEAN v3 when it came out and noticed that issue. I was getting random system crashes and sometimes reboots once I decided to nandroid restore my 4.0.4 backup. So after backing up /data/media/ through ADB I did an entire fastboot flash of the stock IMM76K image (here if anyone needs it) to ensure my device was back to 100% stock. I'm currently on 4.0.4 (AOKP M6) and reluctant to go back to JB because of this very issue - I'm just glad to have everything back to normal.

It's supposed to be like that. People are making issues out of things that aren't issues at all.
/sdcard symlinks to /storage/sdcard0
Just as
/mnt/sdcard symlinks to /storage/sdcard0
I think the concern is that pre-JB /storage/sdcard0 doesn't exist. So when you install JB, you get duplicate symlinks to wherever "sdcard" is.
I no longer have /storage/sdcard0, or at least I can't find it anymore. However, I can navigate to /data/media and find the same contents as /sdcard. My main concern is that there might be more partitioning going on behind the scenes that break things on restores between ICS and JB.
I've swapped back and forth at least a dozen times and not had duplicated symmlinks.

Same here. I thought I was just imagining things. After returning everything back to the sdcard, I now had 9gb free instead of something like 2gb.
i had same issue to. used nandroid back up and fresh install worked for me.
I have been having issues with the sdcard since flashing the preview too and through several roms
Initially it didnt see any of my pics...a few hours later they were there.
Turns out on boot Android Media Server is running at about 40-50% for about an hour.
Once this is done then my pics show up in gallery and the phone runs great.
I dont have that many pics so if you have more I could see this taking hours.
(I use Watchdog light to see what hogging the CPU)
I've tried several things to fix including renaming the DCIM folder and creating a new one...putting a .nomedia file at the root of the SDCARD
Nothing seems to work. I watched the logcats looking for some media scanner errors but never see any.
Right now Im running a CM10 Kang.
At this point I will probably reset to factory and start from scratch and then copy my data back.
I wish there was another solution, maybe partition the SDCARD?

Hey everyone. Bought a GN off Swappa.
I'm hoping I can get some help (or assurance that things are fine) about some odd things I noticed:
!) Downloaded the GN Toolkit v7.8.0 and tried to install drivers. Got some fail error, but the toolkit also said that if I got the error it would still work. Every time I plug in my phone, I get a new message from Win 7 x64 that it's "installing a driver". Even though I've already installed drivers. What gives? It also seems to want to install different drivers for when I'm in bootloader or recovery. I've also tried using the download from Samsung's website (Verizon_Wireless_I515_Galaxy_Nexus_USB_Driver_v1.4.6.0.exe) and I still get it. And then following the manual install instructions from the toolkit, I still get a lot of pop ups. It seems the only truly comprehensive method is to install PDAnet. Can anyone confirm? However, I didn't like how it created extra network adapters though. The guide to the toolkit says you can uninstall PDAnet after finishing to retain just the drivers but I didn't have a chance to do that. By then, I'd already used Windows Restore to go back in time and try and find the best driver setup from the get to. I'd really really like to just get the drivers right the first time. Thoughts? Help?
2) It seems that when I moved all my old micro sd card pictures from my Rezound to my PC, and then copied them to the Gnex (while it was working; I'll get to that in a second), the ownership on the Camera folder got messed up causing the Gallery app to force close on every ROM (bekit's theory). Actually, it wasn't really the Gallery. It was the Camera app that would FC but it would say it was the Gallery. Anyhoo, in the process of trying to fix this, I decided to just wipe the SD partition (I should've done an in-ROM factory reset....) and clean install to verify that /data/media/DCIM/Camera was the problem. Except now none of my ROMs are on my phone. Whoops. Well let's copy them over from the computer. Now the phone isn't being recognized. Double whoops. If only those drivers from step 1 weren't such a PITA...
I'm fairly confident that with the latest CWM touch I still have and the Toolkit, I can get a booting ROM again. But the driver and gallery problem I could really use help on.
So. I'm going out of town Friday. I really hope I can get some help getting this up and running by then. Thank you very much.
EDIT: Also, My Gnex keeps showing up under the Asus device listing in Device Manager. I've previously installed drivers for both my Rezound and my room mates Transformer (I rooted and installed a ROM on his tf101). Do I have to uninstall these first?
Maybe try starting here first, and it may answer some of your questions.
for the camera issue, I had a very similar one when copying my pics over to the Nexus from my Rezound. Don't copy them into the DCIM folder. Because they are encoded differently than the Nexus' pics, they wont show up properly or something like that. Instead, copy them to a new folder on the SD called "Old Pics" or something like that. They will show up in a separate section in the Gallery, but that's a fair tradeoff
Well, here's what I did. I'm more concerned with getting this phone up and running. After I do that, I can get rid of duplicate drivers (or maybe I'll keep them all so everything works). Anyway, I used System Restore to go back to step 1.
Now when I use the Gnex Toolkit, it downloads the stock Google image for Toro, but it cannot extract it Ugh. I searched the thread for package extract problems and there wasn't a single post. -_-
Edit: Oh, the file the toolkit dl'ed is only 7 kb... I wonder if this has anything to do with Goo.im being down recently... Just found it elsewhere and am in the process of flashing.
To think I tore everything down because of the stupid f'ing pictures from my Rezound xD
I don't know why I didn't just put them in a separate folder. That's what I did when I moved from the Droid 1 to the Rezound...
Don't use a toolkit is the first step to rooting the GNexus. There are plenty of guides out there that explain how to do it manually.
Not trying to sound like an ass, but it will save you time if (when) you soft brick your device at some point. Everyone does it, I mean its the cool thing to do!

I found the stock image and flashed it. I'm very familiar with the basic adb and fastboot commands and such.
My main problem now is that I've flashed the stock 4.0.4 image and my Camera is STILL force closing. I even put all my pictures in to a folder OUTSIDE of the DCIM directory. Actually, I put them in the Pictures directory so maybe that's still an issue. I'm going to try moving all my Droid 1 and Rezound picture folders to just the root directory and I HOPE that works.
Otherwise, I think there's a hardware problem. Maybe the camera cable came loose. But if it were loose, wouldn't it just not work? Would it give a force close error? Would it give a different error, since it's the cable and not the software?

The beauty of the toolkit is it automatically extracted and flashed the .tgz file for me. I had to do it this way because previously I wiped EVERYTHING on the phone with CWM. system, boot, data, cache, dalvik, AND sdcard. That was back when I was trying to fix the gallery issue. Tore it all down to start over.
I'm still moving pictures out of any picture related directories in the hopes that solves the issue. It's taking awhile. That's actually another concern I had: Windows Explorer seems to be a little slower copying/moving files to the GN internal storage than with other phones. It also shows a goofy looking icon of a generic looking PMP when the GN is plugged in.
When this file transfer is done, I'm going to put CM10/Gapps on the card, wipe everything and flash it clean. If it still FC's, I'll probably erase the pictures from the phone (again) and see how to go from there.

The downfall of toolkits is that you do not know what it is actually flashing. If you do it yourself through fastboot, you can be sure you flash everything that you are supposed to. And it makes no difference if you wiped EVERYTHING. Fastboot works with EVERYTHING WIPED.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think it's faulty hardware. I'm going to take out the camera tomorrow and clean it (I work at a phone repair place as luck would have it). If that doesn't work then I'll look in to buying replacement hardware.
Thanks for all the help and info people. I'll probably update this when I've solved it.
Okay so I'm kind of freaking out but not really because I'm sure I can get a good answer fairly soon. I was on the Whompasaurus Rom and had the beats audio installer app and opened the app. I was coming from stock lk8 which had the beats so it showed up as that i had it installed when in fact it didn't. I had the acid mod that came with the whompasuarus rom. Anyways, as many of us do when our fingers are near are root app, they started getting root happy and decided to click the uninstall beats audio button when i had no beats on it. So, my phone immediately rebooted and then showed up on the homescreen for a few seconds before continuing to reboot. So at this point the phone cannnot be accessed. Now, I have all my backups safely on my computer that can be transferred via usb. However...I CANNOT MOUNT MY PHONE ONTO THE COMPUTER SINCE I HAVE NO AVAILABLE ROM. I have custom recovery and everything but I'm kind of scared I might have messed up my phone since this has never happened. Hopefully someone can enlighten me on a way to simply mount my phone so I can put my rom onto the phone and install it. Thanks to anyone who can answer my question regarding what to do now. I have tried mounting my phone via recovery and it's not showing up as an accessible data that can be altered.

I also have the galaxy note 2 toolkit if that helps
Happened to me.
Put the ROM or any file you want or need on a Micro SD card from your PC.
Place card into phone
Recovery will find it with guidance from you.
*If you switched your internal / external memory, pull the battery first to avoid errors.
Have you tried putting it into download mode, then reinstalling stock firmware? When I got stuck in boot loop it helped. Then you could re-root, go into twrp, reinstall backups.

Before I went to bed last night it hit me that I could use the extension sd to put on the rom.
I got one of my family's phones, transferred the rom onto his extension sd card and then put his sd onto my phone. It worked fine. Xda was down earlier so I couldn't view any responses but now that Google finished installing all my apps I see someone had the same sort of idea I did. I was actually looking for the micro sd adapter and couldn't find it so I pursued the above action.
Although...I did kind of get nervous because at the very beginning when I was re setting up the rom it said system ui has stopped unexpectedly. I have expected to see the rom restart but it didn't. I had weird force closes of apps I never heard of that made my phone restart so you can guess what I was probably thinking. Anyways thanks for the quick responses.
Hey guys, it's been a long time since I've been flashing roms and stuff and I barely came back since I was tired of this jellybean Rom I'm on. Right now I have an older Rom that from what I an seeing isn't being developed anymore, wicked v10, Android 4.1.1, and I went through all the backups, with using tb to back up my apps, and I went into my recovery, cleared data and system, flashed quantum 3.6.4, flashed pa gapps, the same old stuff, and after I set up, I noticed the emulated sd card as I expected as it did that to me when I used to run aokp, but I could not ever find for the life of me any of my titanium backup backups, screenshots, etc. Even when I checked my other sd card folders. I found that strange since when I restored my backup, I was easily able to find the rest of the things mentioned. So what am I doing wrong? Also, is there a way to port my sms to hangouts as the new Rom used, and will I be able to used the restore backups of my contacts through the xml or something file that I generate in my contacts app when I used the app that comes with the new Rom? Thx in advance
Adding on to the fact I cannot edit my old post from my buggin out xda app, I seem to have found out whats wrong, which is that my internal sd is either not mounted properly, or cannot be read properly, while flashing ANY kitkat rom. I tried to search forums and google for a solution to this but I couldn't turn up anything. So can anyone at least tell me if this is a recurring bug on cm11 or kitkat based roms or am I just screwing up on something along the way?

Have you tried Odin flashing your firmware and factory resetting after?
Could also be the /0/0/0/ folder problem. Every time you flash a rom it adds another /0 and that becomes the default directory. Look in /storage (maybe wrong, going by memory). It's well documented though. Check the faq sticky, I think it may be covered there.

I have not tried odin flashing and all that stuff just yet but I checked every possible folder using es file explorer and it seems not to be mounted. I will check the faq though
EDIT: FAQ didn't come up with anything. The only thing I can do now is to Odin my phone but I'm not sure exactly if it would work and be worth my time. It seems as if other people with different devices using cm11 and cm11 based roms have had this issue
