[Q] Freezing on all ICS roms the past few weeks. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

For the past few weeks Ive been running AOKP and it has been randomly freezing up on me. Its always the same way. I grab my phone from my pocket, I wake it and what ever i try and do doesnt matter cause its frozen. Then in a few seconds its fine. It happens a few times a day. Well I finally got sick of it and switched to CM9 and I started getting the same thing. So I went to Calks ICS 1.5 which ive never had problems on before but it still does it on this rom too. There has to be something wrong with my E4GT. Can someone help ?

I'd say it's probably time for a full wipe. If I've been doing a lot of flashing, I like to wipe out both SD's, odin back to stock and start absolutely fresh. A lot of apps leave file behind on SD and I like to clean up so I know everything is running properly. I posted my method here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24056900&postcount=9930
Up to you which one-click odin you use but this way you're ensured a completely fresh start. BTW, you DO use Calk's format all whenever you go to a new rom correct?

Yes I usually use calks format but not everytime . I usually follow the devs instructions and they don't always say use calks format all. Should I use it no matter what?

Ok gotcha, that is a very good question. You mentioned AOKP and I'm not very familiar with it but I do know it is designed very differently than the ICS leak that is out and also CM9 is different also. You may want to ask about AOKP but I think the safest way to go if you're using ICS and want to flash a ROM or Kernel is to ALWAYS Odin (mobile app or from computer) Chris41G's Stock EL26 Kernel from here:
http://chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch/Stock+Repack/EL26/
Flash Calkulin's Format All, and then flash your rom. If you keep doing it that way, you should stay safe.
Now, there are a few kernels coming out for ICS that say they're safe to flash ROM's with but I'm not taking the chance. I hear too many stories about people forgetting what rom or kernel they're using and accidentally bricking their phones while on ICS. I like my phone too much, I'm going to keep using the EL26 method.
I just read today, a couple users on AOKP tried to flash something else from AOKP recovery and they hosed up their phones possibly.
The format all is safe to use and clears all the data and wipes the partitions so you can flash a rom cleanly. That is what it was designed for.

All the freezing started started soon after I started flashing AOKP and CM9. Ive never done a fresh wipe before I've only been flashing for a few months. All I'm interested in saving is my music and if I can my text messages but most important my music. I saw the thread you posted for me but is there anything more detailed that I can use to back up to my PC and to wipe my phone?

I cant figure out how to save my pictures to my PC, as soon as I connect it theres no file anywhere, only the stupid screenshots i took. This phone is a nightmare . Somebody please help me I need to do wipe it clean. Also when I connect my phone to my laptop, it gives me 2 different ports removable disk E, and removable disk D. my pictures are no where to be found. It makes no sense at all. somebody please just give me a detailed description on how to save my pictures to my laptop and wipe this stupid phone clean. I have the EL29 root files and CWM I just need to know how to reset it like it came out of the box.

1. Its not a stupid phone, it works great.
2. Make sure you have the correct Samsung drivers installed on your laptop. Google and you can find them easily.
3. Once your phone is recognized by your PC, copy n paste your files. You will have 2 places to copy from if you did this correctly, one is internal card and the other is external SD.
4. If you can't get these results, you bricked your phone from not reading beforehand.
5. If all else fails, go to download mode with volume down+power when your phone is off and try sfhubs ek02 one click method.
6. Profit.

You are not understanding. I have correct drivers installed and my pc does recognize my phone. ive copied and pasted my music successfully but under pictures is only my screenshots. all the other pictures that i have on here that i would like to save are not here. I know what im talking about ive done this many times. theres obviously something wrong with this phone because when i turn on usb storage i get 2 to pick from. Disk E and Disk D. one gives me more access to my phone that the other . Id like to take a pic of it and show you but as you know i cant take a picture with my phone while its in sync.

why would I wanna use EKO2 method?? it should be EL29 right ??

Always do a full wipe when changing platforms. Ics to aokp, aokp to cm9. You can get away with wiping cache and dalvk cache when upgrading to the next release of same rom usually, but if anything strange happens wipe and reflash.

Look for a folder called 'DCIM' for the pictures.
Also it doesn't really matter EK02 or EL29. I think sfhub said something about EK02 being special in some way but I just can't think of it right now.

EL26 is the other that is good for flashing to ICS. I havent noticed any difference between EL26 and EL29. You don't really need to make a backup on your computer if you just copy your pics over to the SD card. Ive flashed this phone proly 100 times and its never touched the SD card.

He's having issues so I recommended a full wipe which included formatting both the internal and external SD.
Maybe not necessary but a file cleanup couldn't hurt.

OK I'm gonna run the the EL29 full restore one click self extractor . I'm gonna use the reset dataone. Will that wipe my phone enough? Or do I need to do more??

No, that sounds good.

I erased everything and ran the one click. I installed calks ICS 1.6 and it was fine all day. then just a few minutes ago i unlocked my phone and it was frozen for like 5 seconds again just like it was doing before. WTF????

Did you reinstall or restore any apps?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA

I'm wondering if one of your apps is to blame. You can freeze all bit the necessary ones to see if it makes a difference.

I only reinstalled a few apps. right from the market. i had wiped my whole phone. are you sure that One click file I odined reset my phone??

ive been having the same freezing issue since FF02, its pretty annoying and i hope it gets fixed before OTA. if not ill just run a older leak

Crap, can this be done?

Just got this phone and I love it but the seller on ebay had it rooted and had one of the roms from here on it. They said they would put it all back to stock for me. I like to start with a clean slate if you know what I mean. Well, it is back on gingerbread but root is still there and a whole bunch of other stuff (apps, roms, titanium backup) etc etc in folders on the internal storage. My question is can I safely get this phone back to being stock just like it was from the factory, without the risk of bricking it? I know how to use Odin for the Epic 4G and all. I knew there were some problems with the touch and some phones getting bricked. I have no clue what they may have done to the phone so I am a bit concerned to do anything to it till I hear from someone who has done this (gone completely back to stock) Also, is there a tutorial somewhere?? Thanks guys for your help with this.
Oh here is some more info if it helps looks like I am on Android version 2.3.6, EL29, kernel 2.6.35.7 there is some other info if you need it please let me know I do see a Caulklin's folder in there in the internal storage so most likely they did have that rom on there at one time. There is also a ACS folder in there but when I try to open any of the folders in there I get an error that there is no program that can perform this action. Grrrrrr
Hi.
When messing with Gingerbread, especially stock, bricks are pretty hard to come by nowadays.
Here is what I suggest:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
(from what you said, you probably understand this already)
Just run the EL29 OC. You'll be good to go.
In terms of the internal storage, just delete it all or run a format. You won't get yourself in trouble that way, it's just the internal storage.
If you're concerned about the data wipe brick, that is only on ICS. So since you're on GB, it is not a problem (and totally unrelated to clearing internal storage.)
Post back if you have any questions or anythin'.
If you are on gingerbread then there is no danger of the EEMC superbug(As far as I've heard/read). As for reseting I don't have a link to a tutorial off the top of my head, however the process is pretty simple. Start searching through the development forums for the stock odin files and then flash them. I can try to find you a tutorial/links tonight but I don't really have time right now...besides the search function works the same way for you as it would for me! Feel free to ask if you need anything else!
Hahaha MochaCharok beat me to it!
Thanks guys. The phone at one time was on an ICS rom and yes I can search for it. I just wanted to make sure before I did, that this could be done. So, I will see about finding the tutorial and how to go about getting the phone all back to factory like. I know I am so anal this way, but I really do like to start with a clean slate before I do anything to any phone. thanks again guys I will holler if I run into any problems. LOVE this phone though.

When you activated the phone on your account it should've wiped everything they had on the phone prior and reset it to stock. At least that's what happened when I activated a phone I'd bought from an XDA member. So I started with a clean slate automatically.
It didn't for whatever reason. I had to go in and edit the MIN and MDN manually to get it to activate so maybe that is why. That thing was a HUGE pain to do too. It would not take and kept resetting. Had to try it like 5 times.

If you are stuck with what to do next then take it to a Sprint store and let them wipe it for you.
Good info
As I'm going to try this and hopefully get the missus off her Opt S and onto an E4GT this week this was good timing to cover the process.
Here's what I am planning to do:
1) Flash EL29 + Root
2) Factory Reset from Recovery (which should clear NVRAM if I understand correctly)
3) Call MVNO and have them set up phone
4) Allow hands-free activation to hopefully fill in the blanks
If this works as I hope then I shouldn't have to tinker manually with the NVRAM data.... if not then I have my phone to base most of that off of. And of course it depends if the carrier will let me set the phone up - in the past they haven't been warm to using a different phone unless you purchased it directly from them.
All this just to sit tight until we can get the GS3 probably next year.. yeesh.

[Q] COMPLETE wipe not using CWM / .md5 ROM files

I have figured out that there is something wrong with my phone only when I have CWM5/6 flashed. So this leads me to believe that I need to clean out anything at all that is being left behind after certain flashes. (I get past my unbootable pixelated screen with one ROM that uses the original recovery)
So my question is how can I totally obliterate any and all files left behind or that were damaged by something from a custom flashed ROM?
On top of this question, I am wondering what ROMs are out there in the .tar.md5 file format so that I could use Download Mode to flash another ROM and at least have a working phone??
I find all the ROMs available but only in .zip format.
Sammy firmwares and use Odin.

Return phone to LITERAL factory state
I guess I should have been more clear.
What I mean that I would like to do, is to wipe out ANYTHING on the phone. Completely blank it as if it just rolled off the line. Then install the entire hidden partitions that samsung would do plus then add a new firmware.
The reason is that I cannot use CWM6 and my phone is an expensive paper weight right now. The problem arises from the fact that there has only been one ROM that actually worked for me from the beginning. That is the Bio360, and well originally the factory setup. Since I cannot use CWM and cannot flash a zip which Bio360 comes in. I have no way to enjoy the ROM or my phone for that matter. I have spent about a 100 hours flashing in all sorts of order and arrangements of kernels, ROMS and recovery files using every odin program I could find. Plus I have done about an equal amount of searching in between trying to figure out what has caused the issue. However, since my issue is localized then I would like to return my phone to LITERAL factory state.
Is it possible to format EVERYTHING and rewrite all of the necessary files? THAT would be a complete wipe by my definition.
Thanks for any help people.
I repeat Sammy firmwares had the stock files for you to flash via Odin. It is what you are asking for. Flash one of those roms then do a factory reset or format all partitions. Should be all nice and clean.

Thanks for the reply. I already have all of the stock firmwares, but the thing is that that only flashes the actual software that a user uses daily. There is still boot software, recovery files and others within the hidden partition. A bit like a laptop keeps a partition or seperate small hard drive specifically just for a recovery and wipe clean of everything.
I was hoping that perhaps there is a possibility of startin with a clean slate, then re-writing all pertinent information back into the device, then putting the stock ROM etc back.
Again, the reason that I was thinking this would be my last hope is that everytime I use the CWM or anything other than a single ICS with a particular order of flashing the Cranium kernel without Auto-Reboot and then using the NAND Erase All and the other two checked can I get a ROM to work. The challenge is that now after I have got the phone back up and running without the CWM and with ICS is that it will not read a SIM card. I was thinking it was a hardware issue until after another 10 hours of trying various arrangements of flashable files, I finally got the device to not only boot into ICS, but after leaving it for 6 hours I 'awoke' it and it had loaded all the files and I got past the, black screen with pull down menu. I finally had a ROM that worked again even after my green and red pixelated screen issue. That leads me to believe again that it must be a software issue again. Not a hardware.
Thus leading me to think about any other options to literally start the device from scratch. Boot loading files, hidden files, etc etc. Literally EVERYTHING.
Excuse me, this might be a silly question, but as I've read no mention of it: Have you tried KIES?
Many a borked phone has been saved by an emergency recovery through KIES, or so I've been lead to believe. Perhaps it can help you in some way?
Seeing how you're the only one reporting this problem it seems far more likely to be a hardware issue. Maybe your internal drive is damaged? But I do hope I'm wrong in that regard. Anyway, if you haven't already, give KIES a try. It seems impossible to make things worse than they already are.
Good luck!
PS: You could also try the ICS-Leak, as it's a one-click executable containing bootloaders. Might fix whatever's messed up...?

I borked my Glide trying different ROMs a little while back and Kies is what brought it back to life. There is an option for firmware updates right below the emergency recovery option that asks you for the model and serial number of your phone. Takes a while but I watched it repartition and flash the hidden partition during the process. Brought the software back to out of the box. HTH.

I have the freeze problem, i try a lot of think (kies doesnt even start to flash), maybe is because the storage from rogers is only 4gb and the rom try to access like a 8gb storage, i dont know, when i flash GB, in the recovery menu, i see a meesage that cant access something. I hope someone can help us. Only ICS works, but, without root or any custom recovery.
I think that it need a clean install, atotal wipe.
THe Kies Give me this error, so i cant try if that can fix the problems

[Q] E4GT FI27 Boot Loop

If I'm posting this in the wrong place I apologize in advance. I'm also a bit freaked out since my phone seems to be kaput right now, but I have faith this is fixable. I need some of you professionals to give me your advice on how to go about fixing this.
Okay here we go...
I have in the past rooted my phone without any major issues by just reading this awesome site. I recently used "SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_NoData" to root my phone using the one click method and everything was working fine. I realize now that I should have backed up all of my user data on the phone prior to updating to ICS from Gingerbread.
So, I think I made a newbie mistake by actually using Titanium Backup Pro (updated to latest version) to restore 1 file called wallpaper from the date 03/2012 (March 2012) which was when my phone was using Gingerbread 2.3.4 I think. I remember hitting the restore button and getting an option to restore only the data, so I chose this and a notification said, "Reboot phone for changes to take effect". Once the phone rebooted I unlock the screen and see the wallpaper I had from earlier this year. Now, I think the main problem is that I'm now using Ice Cream Sandwhich 4.0.4 and restoring the wallpaper from Gingerbread 2.3.4 has caused some underlying issues which is causing my phone to constantly reboot.
I went to the Sprint store and explained the issue and the Sprint representative said my phone needed to be reset because it seems to be glitching out. I informed him that I had files on my phone that I wanted to try to backup to my computer before I completely wipe the phone. Now, I'm home and I'm trying to get my phone to pop up in Windows 7 x64. I keep getting USB connection errors while connecting my phone to my PC because the phone keeps constantly rebooting while the drivers are trying to install then as soon as the phone reboots the driver installation fails.
USB Device Not Recognized
SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device failed installation
So I've tried uninstalling Samsung Kies and the USB drivers and then re-installing them and rebooting. Still no joy because my phone keeps constantly rebooting. It is never going to complete installing because the phone is completely unstable at this point in time. Further research led me to updating the MTP from Microsoft. After installing this I rebooted. Problem is I'm still getting connection issues while trying to connect my Epic 4G Touch to my PC because the drivers are not able to install because of the constant reboots, even though they were installed previously. This is how I was able to root my phone to begin with.
So basically what I'm trying to do is backup my files on my phone to my computer (which it now may be too late) before I just completely reflash a fresh ROM (Full Restore on FI27) and start over from scratch.
I had the idea of actually reapplying "SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_NoData" to hopefully reset the kernel so I could backup my phone to my computer. This hasn't resulted in any changes whatsoever either. I'm completely stumped and would really appreciate some wisdom here.
I hope all of this makes sense and I hope someone out there is nice enough to take a little time to point me in the right direction.
I have just placed the phone in download mode with the idea of re-downloading "SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Kernel" and USB drivers have been installed successfully.
Nice to see this thread is getting some views, but no one has any advice to give me?
What files on your phone do you need?
I just got the Phone to show up in Windows Explorer by plugging in the USB cable right when the Yellow 4G came up and I was browsing the phone and I noticed the SD Card was not showing up, but before long the phone rebooted and I'm still trying to access the phone but the damn thing keeps rebooting constantly.
I'm just trying to backup photos I don't have backed up anywhere else. Other than that I'm hoping I can do a full restore using "SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore" and that will at least get my phone back to operating normally right?
Just go into the recovery menu and do a factory reset. It won't format your SD card.

m4xwellmurd3r thanks for the advice.
I got impatient and went ahead and flashed "SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore" and my phone is back to operating normally. My SD card is still intact as well! What is really surprising is the fact that the pictures that were on my phone are still there. I don't understand, I obviously did something wrong. Also no longer having USB connection issues so that is a big relief as well!
Of course all the applications I had installed are no longer present, but why are my pictures still intact after using a Rooted Restore.
I want to completely wipe my phone and then create a backup with Titanium Backup and call it Stock_Version#. Then after I root the phone and get everything setup the way I like it I want to create another backup called something else. Is this the correct way to go about doing this?
Because none of your storage gets wiped by factory resets. Resets only affect the rom portion of your phone not storage. Glad you got it working
By the way rooted restore already wiped everything on your phone and rooted it so you're good to go

Really? Okay, so I shouldn't see any empty folders for apps I no longer use?
I swear everytime I start looking at the folders in my phone I see things I don't recognize and it just bothers me. This is one reason I wanted to reset my phone and start over fresh.
Also is there a good tutorial for using Titanium Backup?
Any folders made on the SD card and internal storage will remain since factory resets won't touch the data, even if the app is gone

So when you install an app just to test it out then you un-install it remnants of that app are still left behind. This I have to say I don't like. There has to be a better way to keep the file structure free from accumulating garbage. Is there a better way or not?

@garwynn - What is the difference between SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore.exe, and SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore_v2.exe?
Also I want to completely reset my phone now that I have everything backed up to my PC that I care about. So do I need to do a factory reset on the phone and then flash one of the files above?

I just got done using an Odin One Click -> SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore.exe, all my data was left intact. Are you sure you know what you're talking about?

Lol. So your google account settings remained? You didn't have to setup anything?? If that's the case, either it was the no data version or it didn't flash.
And if you're taking about formatting the usb storage, like blues said in the other thread you asked, it doesn't format it.
But feel free to get other opinions.
:edit: And the only way I'd ever suggest to "factory reset" from the privacy menu, would be to use a gb build. But don't take my word for it, read the brick bug thread.

I'm just getting confused here I think your right. So basically if I do a factory reset via the settings menu, that will reset everything but keep the same model FI27. Then all I'll need to do is reflash the SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore.exe, right?

See my edit above. I'll never suggest using that option with an ics build at this time.
Now, having said that, i have done it but with the brick bug, that choice is yours.
What i try to do is just format the drives (both internal and external) when connected to my laptop then power off, then use a one click.
Safe method - use a gb one click, factory reset via privacy option in settings and format usb, then use the fi27 one click.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
Okay tell me I understand this correctly.
Format both internal/external drives via settings > privacy > Factory data reset (this does not touch the SD Card, right?) while USB cable connected.
Power off phone and boot into download mode, then flash a "Stock Gingerbread Rom" (matching the model #, will it still be FI27 or not?) then at this point if I'm still on FI27 all I'll need to do is reflash "SPH-D710_FI27_CL1127689_Rooted_Restore" to regain root.
If after doing a factory reset and flashing a stock gingerbread rom I may have to wait for updates to be pushed to my phone, or not?

[Q] Is this Normal?

In August I bought a SGS2 for my wife, and a SGS3 for myself...
Her phone's running stock non-rooted ICS.
It has some software loaded but nothing too extreme... the ICS update was installed via Kies, and her phone was wiped. - (she wasn't very happy with me when that happened). She uses the stock TW launcher, and stock lock screen, nothing exciting...
Periodically (generally after the phone's been on for several days) the phone pauses and tends to kind of stop... (it'll stop while flipping pages on the launcher)... and it will kind of sit there... and sometimes it requires a reboot... and/or potentially a battery pull...
I haven't pulled a logcat on it yet (not sure if I have the drivers loaded for that at this point think I do... )
She's afraid to let me root the phone because I might "screw up" her contacts, etc...
Thoughts?

Back up contacts to sim card or sd card. Then root it and put a good custom rom on it. It should run alot better after that.

I agree with ArcticFish and then Odin back to Android 2.3.6 or Android 4.0.4 using this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359 . A fresh copy via Odin cures many symptoms. If you take the time to read the thread you’ll have no problems. Of course you can always come back here and ask for help.

Grab Call log backup and sms back up from the play store and back them up as well before rooting. Will not lose anything that way and of course backup contacts.
One of her concerns is contacts. (Specifically the joining between those stored in Facebook vs those stored in Google.)
I'd thought I could basically Odin either cwm or tarp, make a nandroid, and then flash a supersu zip, and then use titanium backup to back it up...
Sounds like there's potential value to work on her to let me switch her Rom...
I know the stock Rom Odin file for the s3 doesn't wipe data... does the one fir the s2 wipe the data partition?
Also it's there a Odin file for the s2 that already has root injected like for the s3? (I looked, but didn't see one)

Yes there is an Odin file to go back to Android 2.3.6 and root via Odin. Please this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414341 come back with questions I’ll do my best to help you.

So it almost sounds like I should avoid UVLH1 on this phone... since I keep getting suggestions to revert to 2.3.6...
Look scifan, ICS 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 updates came through Kies and it corrupted some files along the way. One solution was to clear the cache and that help many people. I think if you wipe your phone properly before Odin. It’s pretty darn stable. This is my observation via trial and error.
This is also how I wipe my phone clean before Odin or flashing any rom.
*wipe data/factory reset
*wipe cache partition
*go to Mounts and Storage and select format /system
*go to advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache
*Fix Permissions
just do the suggested backups, wipe and flash the newest Jedi rom. Its runs perfectly and looks completely stock

Storage issues help

I'm suddenly having storage issues with every ROM that I flash after running a ROM with some script that isn't widely used.
First I'll give you a brief idea of my problem. I"m running out of storage and get notifications from the market saying as much after I download and reasonable amount of apps. The thing is... It show's I have used 738MB of ext4 out of 1.5 so that isn't the issue. The problem is internal memory. My phone won't move dalvik cache for some reason. When I run any ROM with a2sd or m2sd they both say that there is a problem and leave the dalvik cache where it is.
I think my internal folders are jacked up from 40ad2sdx or a zip that was used to clear memory before the ROM. There was a ext4 superwipe cleaner to load before the ROM. I did that without researching first. When I did go looking for the thread about it, it plainly said that it was for one phone only, and it wasn't my phone. I believe it was the Galaxy S3, but I can't be certain. It was a week ago. It was advised not to use it on any other phone because part of what it did was reset the internal folders. Does this mean I can now flash a ROM for the galaxy s3? Lol Just kidding.... Seriously, the second part is all my speculation and I have been wrong many times concerning android. Will somebody help me get my phone back in oem condition please?
Okay, I'm not even sure what you did here, because not knowing the script, anything could have happened.
Try wiping everything and flashing stock rooted here, then go from there with other roms after that.
If that doesn't work. Here's what I would do. It might be a major pain, but it is almost a surefire fix.
Unroot and return to stock, then root again.
[UNROOT]
[ROOT]
For future reference, NEVER flash anything that is meant for another device. (Obviously, if it's a port then you're ok.)
ALSO EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Backup your SD card, and wipe that puppy clean!! Only partition using Amon-RA recovery, otherwise it will screw you up quite often. I repeat, if you do not have the partition done correctly, then odds are that A2SD or equivalent won't work.

I did the wipe and flash to stock earlier today, then flashed the Pac man ROM but the issue is still there. I had looked at unrooting my phone earlier today also. I'm glad to read this because it lets me know that I do have some idea of what to do. Thanks for the reply. I'll post here again with the results. Check back soon.
EDIT----> Man, my phone is okay. I loaded up a fairly recent ROM by Tronit, and it worked fine. It was the ROMs. Just to be sure, I went back to the last two ROMs just to see, and they did the same thing again. Now I'm on the AOKP Unnoffical and it's working just fine. The a2sd is working perfectly like it should, and my dalvik cache is moving to ext4. It was just coincidental that the last three ROM's I loaded all have issue with the a2sd. It's funny how nobody else see's problems but me. I looked in the bin file of one of them and it's missing part of the a2sd file. The other two have weird init.d files that I don't know anything about. I'm assuming the a2sd problem is related to that. It's funny how I see lots of problems, and report them, but I get blown off by some people as a noob who is making mistakes. I am a noob, and I do make mistakes, but I know some of my theories about problems are correct...... I gotta get me some respect by compiling my own ROMs.
Status update..... My phone is jacked up for sure. It does work with the AOKP Unofficial by Tronit, but this morning when I cleared my cache with Smelkus Recovery, it had major problems with almost every app. Clearing the cache in recovery is something I've done with every ROM and this has never happened. I uninstalled all the apps and reinstalled them. Got them working again. Everything seemed to be okay. However, when I cleared my cache with Android Tuner, again it ruined every app. I've used android tuner every day for two months to clear the cache and never had problems like this. Something is very wrong.

Long story short, I flashed something made for another phone. I can't explain why I did this without taking up lots of pages, and it doesn't even matter really. Lets just focus on the solution. Here is the link. I flashed both of the zips in the link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
So I think my permissions for the files on my phone are out of whack. Is that what I"m reading is the possible outcome of flashing these if your phone is not the one listed? Please post your thoughts. I need them.

I did that. Both with Smelkus, and Mini partition wizard. Same problems. I just tried to fix permissions with smelkus 4.3 on the AOKP Unofficial ROM and it took a minute for it to do it's thing. The line of dots was two full rows. So when It loaded back up, I suddenly see the same disk Icon in my notification bar, and now this ROM says it it out of memory. Man, it was working fine. I had twenty more apps on it too and I uninstalled them. It was working fine then, so with twenty less apps, it shouldn't suddenly say "Running out of Storage space."
I have told you this already: Please do not flash things meant for other phones, it could mess up. If it's meant for another device, it might screw yours up. To stay on the safe side: If it's not generic (works for every Android phone) or phone specific (exclusive to the Evo 4G) then don't flash it.

I flashed this about a eek ago, when I was looking for the ext4 wipe. I thought it was the same thing as another zip despite what it said. Stupid... I know. I think this may be the cause of my problems, but I can't be sure. I don't know at all really. Just speculations. I reflashed the CWM touch and used to flash a stock ROM. Gonna try that again. I ran the test on CWM touch and it said that the
/sys/class/android_usb/android0 was missing and unable to perform the test. Can this be the cause of my problems?
Don't beat yourself up man, it was an honest mistake, just learn from it and you'll be alright.
Now the optimal recovery for this device would be the Amon-RA recovery, and I recommend redoing what I said in my first post once you have Amon-RA installed. Amon-RA is an awesome recovery, and it's super easy to install. Check out this easy-to-follow video on how to install by clicking here.
Do that, then do what I said in the previous posts. Let me know what happens, because I'm almost certain this should work.

I tried loading the Pacman ROM again with CWM and it wouldn't even load. It gets stuck in a bootloop. After that I flashed smelkus and went back to the Stock Rom.

As I stated in my pm give me a day or so till I get back home and I will check into a fix for you. Only don't expect any one on one help. If the fix works cool if not I will dig further. TNN strives to help with any issue no matter who is at fault. I will look at the wipe script you flashed and see if it can be undone. Just be prepared of the possibility that your phone may never work correctly again.

I was finally able to get my phone straightened out. I loaded up a stock ROM then decided to use my SD Maid to look around. I found a file with completely different dates on it, but it wouldn't let me remove it. I ended up copying everything else in the subfolder and then deleted the parent folder. Then added everything else back. Wah lah.... magic. I don't know what that file was or where it came from but it was killing my internal memory. I'm wondering how it stayed from ROM to ROM. I dunno, but it's gone, and the Pacman ROM is lovely now. BOOM!!!!

Whatever I did only fixed part of the issue. I'm left with in a situation where every time I go into recovery my downloaded apps stop working. It is cutting part of them off whether I clear cache or not. All I have to do is power off into recovery, and when I reboot, all of my downloaded apps begin giving messages that "Unfortuately such ans such has stopped." My phone becomes inoperable. The only way I can keep it working is to send a new launcher to my phone from the market, let it install, then open it up and uninstall all the downloaded apps. I'm pretty sure this is an easy fix for someone like you Mancuso. I have a logcat and it show LOTS of errors that I have never seen before on any of my other logcats. What are my options? Tell me what to do to get my phone back to absolute OEM and then I'll reroot. UNLESS you know of some fix.
I've supplied a logcat from Catlog if you or anybody else wants to have a look. I'd really appreciate some help here. I love my Evo and I love learning this stuff. If somebody can help me positively identify the problem, I can most likely figure it out from there. Please give me your suggestions here. I'm nothing without some guidance on this. It's way out of my scope.
I've included a link to the ext4 script wipe that I used. How I got to this page, I do not know. However, I ran it because this page said it COULD POSSIBLY work on other phones despite the fact that it was made for another phone.

And I flashed both zips from the thread that the story links users to. Here is the link for the two zips.

I'm not sure this is the problem. I'll try to find the Vold.fstat thread that I tried on my own before you came up with the 40ad2sdx solution for the MIUI ROM.
This is the memory fix I tried as mentioned above.

Please note that you see before and after pics of sd storage. You can see that my pics clearly resemble the after pics shown in this thread. I believe this is my problem. How can I undo this?
This post reflects the only things I did outside of normal flashing. My problem is here somewhere...
The fix you used is for samsung devices. That could have caused your problems.
