I have been trying to find out if it has nfc. Some sites say yes others say no and some say it has the hardware but sprint disabled it because they want us to use their mobile payment instead. So can anyone clarify this for me...
Might need too return this phone if when ics drops I can't use android beam

nope.......
I read something about nfc being in the battery or something?
Edit: I mean not our battery ofc, other galaxy variant ones
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
The other US versions of the SGS2 have NFC, not our E4GT.
On those phones the NFC antenna is in the battery. The rest of the hardware is in the phone itself, so we can't get NFC by simply swapping batteries.
I was pretty disappointed by this since Sprint is a Google Wallet partner and all.

don't be disappointed; you can't use it anywhere now, and no one seems to be jumping quickly on the bandwagon either..

It's all over my area. Could have used it a lot christmas shopping.
This sucks, I thought the sgII had one but i guess the sprint version doesn't.
Didn't know that...
soon there will also be nfc enabled sd cards like the wifi sd cards for dslrs

I'm used to seeing the 'Express Pass' stuff almost everywhere, but this was the first time I saw the Google Wallet ones.
I can't post links, but wikipedia google wallet and go to the partners section...
these places are indeed 'all over' where I live.
it must be regional, because here in chicago land, none of those few retailers shown on Wikipedia have anything posted about Google Wallet, at least I haven't seen anything posted while visiting a few of the ones you mentioned..
Until Mastercard makes it "standard" for all of their customers, its still just a "fad", at least around here, at this point

I don't really care to much about the mobile payment aspecT of nfc.
I'm more worried that android beam uses nfc and its a huge part of ics. If you guys aren't sure what I'm talking about I believe there is a youtube video. With nfc and android beam you can seamlessly send maps and directions, website links and a bunch of other cool stuff between two different phones

I think NFC will be nice in one regard - electronic receipts. I hate dealing with paper receipts. When I use Wells Fargo ATMs I can have the receipt emailed to me, which is awesome.
Having electronic receipts tied to NFC payments will be great.
I look forward to progress with NFC in 2012.
Too bad the Epic Touch 4G doesn't have it built in, but perhaps there will be an add-on solution like the microSD card as someone mentioned.
If they were smart they'd create a system where you can pay via NFC and have the receipt emailed to you.

Yeah, I would like to have NFC just as much as the next guy, but it'll have to be in my next phone. And let's face it, until the iphone adds NFC, retailers won't pick it up nationwide.
NFC everywhere?
Even if it is everywhere it isn't used much yet. The store employees probably don't know how to use it. Give it time. I am sure when it get more common every smart phone will have NFC. The better question isn't when is our phone getting it, it is when will vending machines get it? No more scratching up change at work for a pop would be awesome.
So, like many,I'm locked out of google Wallet. Would it be worth it to file an insurance claim and get a different nexus (new or refurb) or should I just hold off and continue to wait for a fix?
Any helpful input would be appreciated.

How did you get locked out?
Well if you're using a VZW Nexus it's blocked/locked form usage. Did you get the apk or? I have wallet on my VZW Nexus and I can use it freely.
Cant you "break in" into Google Wallet by deleting the data so it asks you for you to set your pin?
I don't even think the galaxy nexus is officially supported by google wallet and the application is blocked in the market by verizon. It may have been the wallet security measures which locked your account and you could try calling google wallet support to reset your account.
Try ODIN Flashing and Fastboot Flashing yourself to stock. I don't think it could actually fix it, but it's worth a shot I guess. There will probably be a fix in the future, either from Google or XDA (my money is on XDA), but it will definitely be a while. I sold my Nexus One before it ever got a custom HBOOT, which many thought no one would take up. I would ask for a refurb personally, as I like using GWallet and it's one of the reasons I bought the phone.

Secure Element is a hardware component. Verizon cannot deny a claim on a hardware issue. That said...how do you explain to those peons to know the difference? I assume that if/when the ISIS app comes out, it will use SE as well. Then it will be easier to show them that its hardware (maybe).
Google Wallet may be blocked from the market, but Verizon allows sideloading of apps. Nowhere in their warranty terms do they say, "You are explicitly not allowed to install Google Wallet."
From what I've read, your secure element has shut itself down. If this is true, you'll probably never get a fix from either Google or XDA.
The OP could print out some Google support posts showing that phones need to be replaced when this happens. Verizon cannot void a warranty based on Google Wallet. The phone has the capability. It is of no fault that the user has a corrupted SE.
Better be stock and locked though.
@OP, if you're within your returns period then you should be able to just take the phone back.
However, though morally questionable, other people on these forums have had success by intentionally placing their phone into a bootloop to get a replacement device.

Google Wallet on GNex
My GNex is about 2 mo. old and when I first got it, one of the first things I wanted to do with it was put Google Wallet on it. Unfortunately, that was during the time when there were so many issues with it. After much research on XDA,(thanks so much by the way!), I installed the .apk from Google Wallet website. I have the "Unsupported Device" banner at the top of the screen but for me it's not a big deal. I have used it at several businesses and it worked flawlessly. I have even added funds to the Google Prepaid card from my bank's VISA debit card. An added bonus is peoples amazement when I pay for something with my phone. Google Wallets "Cool Factor" is off the scale.

I really, really think its gots nothing to do with Samsung, and everything with TMo. The international S3, Note 2 (note 1?), the Verizon note 2, the sprint note 2 and now the S2 have all got it, or about to get it.
TMobile? Not a word.
Yes it is tmobile its not samsung. I just find it amazing that we cant get an update period and all these old phones are getting it...I mean its just backwards. I understand that it takes time for tmobile to port over updates and what not...but this is stupid.
I mean the note 2 is where multiview CAME from and we dont have it ON OUR NOTE 2'S
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
This is getting completely stupid and I'm generally a patient person. I'd still be patient but for the fact that the other carriers have released multiple OTA's while T-Mo can't manage to pump even one out. Hell, it would be cool it they even leaked it so we could unofficially beta if we so desired.
I contacted T-Mo's support on Twitter, and they responded with something like "we are working closely with Samsung, etc and stay tuned."
I reminded them it's not Samsung that's the delay - it's T-Mobile. They conveniently didn't respond.
I'm new to T-Mo and don't like the way things are going so far. WTF is their delay??

Dude runs a real time log cat and CarrierIQ runs code for every button pushed as well as each number dialed on the dial pad . This is even more than *I* thought it did. Scary stuff.

1) you should be scared if you are doing something that you aren't supposed to be doing
2) They really can't use any personal information (that's against their privacy policy and if someone did find out, they'd get the **** sued out of them, especially in this litigation-happy country).
3) You can turn it off... which, if you did a simple search on these forums has been posted at least 5 times by now (I've personally seen at least 3 posts about it)
4) The video you posted is by the original "discoverer" of CarrierIQ. The software itself is programmable, meaning we don't know exactly what T-Mobile is collecting, many phone simply have it to note mundane things like signal strength, etc. Also, here's an article on the guy who blew the whistle:
http://www.dailytech.com/Carrier+IQ...hart+Works+for+Tracking+Firm/article23511.htm
As many have known for a while now (it's been almost a year, and no one has died). It's hype and poor implementation by HTC (which has also been discussed on previous "OMG CARRIERIQ" threads).
I'm just tired of the sensationalism that surrounds CarrierIQ.

Hmm, interesting, mine's still checked off, since the day I bought the phone (10/29). I don't think T-Mobile has the power to be able to re-toggle a switch that a user explicitly un-toggled... not to mention this is one phone that has it, imagine having to code that up for all phones and adding it to their system, etc. Even if they did, the information they collect really has nothing to do with you and you should have no worries unless you're doing something "illegal" like tethering your laptop without a hotspot plan, although that's probably caught by their backend servers sniffing your packets using pattern recognition software which is the same software that Google uses to direct ads to you on gmail based on your e-mail contents, but I don't hear many people complaining about that... maybe because it's "free"... (Go here to see the real "price" of Google: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb, it's google's ad preference manager which tells you who Google things you are and what you're interested in, so they can sell that info to advertisers)
Ok my issue with lack of updates is lack of communication. T-Mobile clearly has an agenda for when it plans to release the update. Perhaps one big update turning on LTE, 4.2, etc some have speculated, but to reply something so generic is what's annoying. Finally people this is America's, hell this is planet earth. Do you REALLY think carrier iq is preventing companies and government from seeing or doing anything that they choose? Please don't be so comfortable in your false safety nets.......Lol at removing and disabling carrier iq lol trust if they need to know something, record audio, take pictures from your phone without your knowledge it's been done

I think they are talking about the internatinal s2 and s3 in that article. From what I heard and I could be wrong the international note 2 already has the multiwindow thats how we got it ported over. Everything over here in the good old U.S. of A ( land of the free home of the brave) bulcrap always comes way after the rest of the world. If google went with samsung for there newestr nexus device I would have went that way but I just cant do lg. My first android phoine was the g2x and I lucked out and got one of the good ones but with all the problems and lack of support by LG and tmo left a bad tast in my mouth. BUt I really with samsung would make a AOSP note 2 like the g2x but it will never happen.
The flip side of this is we have some real kick ass devs in the tmo fourm alone and I am sure that the rest of the carriers have them too a phone like this is bound to attact the best of the best. If you look in the dev only sub fourm we have some eleite recongnized devs working together now. So with that and the fact that all the different varents are so close in similarity we will have some real good stuff. Dont worry about what tmo and samsung does we will do what we always do which is do it ourselves. Or i should say the devs will do it themselves people like me will support them in any way possible.
\peace
I spoke to a representative from Samsung today, and a rep from Korea. They said we should be getting the multi window update very very soon. Basically waiting for tmobile to shoot out the OTA.
Check your phones over the next week or so, because it should start coming out.

If i root and put on a rom that does not include this demo I will not be able to use an app that I paid for. just as a FYI the one in the play store is a different version its not the one that came on our phone. Game can only be purchased through the Google Play legally. If you purchased it from somewhere else, who did you sent the payment to? If you have a receipt than you can try contacting Google for help.
You can save your game progress with Titanium Backup but your phone have to be rooted to use that app.
Also if a demo version is all you are looking for, there are plenty of rooted stock roms that already comes with the demo game.

maybe you didn't read the post. But you are wrong because when the phone first came out the game was not in the play store. it was on teh phone as a demo and when i purchased i was told the payment would be added to my next TMobile bill. The NFS in the app store says shows as not purchased and form what i am told the one that comes on the phone is a slightly different version. only problem with the version on our phone is that it doesn't get updated like the one in the store. I guess my best bet is to use a rooted stock rom and back it up with titanium. I hope the license stays intact im not sure how tmobile handles that.
As I've said if you have a receipt just contact who you purchase from or Google Play store to get help. How much did you pay for the game? If it's $6.99 it should be paid through Google. Are u sure your game is not a demo?

All you need to do is provide a link from the creator of the game that shows it free to download for EVERYONE, ANYTIME. But as you say you PAID for a demo, it IS warez if you provide it for free. {Who pays for a DEMO?} The app that comes with the Note II is a DEMO of the App in the Playstore. When you PAY for it, you get the app in the Playstore.
As T-Mobile doesn't sell apps, who do you think the app was purchased from? I buy a bunch of apps on the Playstore and charge them to my T-Mobile account.
Firstly the demo is not paid version. So demo is not warez. In fact the developer paid Samsung Mobile to have the demo in Galaxy Note 2.
I don't know if the upgrade from demo to full is through Samsung's app store, Google Play store or through the developer themself. So I have no idea how to get around this problem. I would email the developer about this problem.
I bought the full version on the Google Play store when the price was discounted to $0.99. So that is the reason for not knowing. Sorry.

This site is called xda develpers, not Flexte Gets To Post Whatever. As mods they get to delete whatever they wish if they feel its against the rules. If the demo was freely available to the masses I'd say your have a case but as this was a app that was included with a certain device and not given to the world, I'd have to call it warez.

1) First I do not play games on my phone, but lots do, but I do now apps/paid/demo...as stated in the above comments, does your carrier have a history of free & paid>>apps/demos, just like Google Play. Last time I checked, if I had a paid version of anything, you could still download and install the free version of that app, but why. And if it came with your phone well learning to back your app, if you decide to try another ROM is a must.

3) As for this comment, if and fact your point is valid, I would of sent a PM outlining my points and with proof to the Moderator that you have a question on or questioning their "God" like attitude. Vice posting/creating a thread or to the least PM the thread to the Moderator stating your points are posted here in the thread.
Finally we are not free to just delete whatever we want, with millions of users and threads we do not check every thread, your removal and closure was due to report from a Member questioning your apk and it was found to be in violation. Again if you disagreed at the time of these happenings, contacting the Moderation Team would have been feasible and held more ground. And if in fact there was a mistake made, the Team of Moderators would of corrected themselves and your links.
Thank you for your time in this matter.

I'm not sure if it's still there but T-Mobile has a listing of all the apps you've purchased from them [at least they did 5-6 years ago]. It allows you to re download them. Check My T-Mobile.
This site is called xda develpers, not Flexte Gets To Post Whatever. As mods they get to delete whatever they wish if they feel its against the rules. If the demo was freely available to the masses I'd say your have a case but as this was a app that was included with a certain device and not given to the world, I'd have to call it warez.

listen I have been on this site and planet way longer than you. the internet tough **** doesn't work for me. its not Warez and you hae no clue what you are talking about you cant be older than 15
I understand what the OP was trying to say but was not clear in explaining.
I also purchased the full version of NFS most wanted after playing the demo included on the note 2. It was an in app purchase for $6.99 that was charged to my T-mobile account.
If I go to the play store and search for NFS most wanted it comes up as costing $4.99. It does not say it is installed on my phone or purchased by me.
The issue will be when I root I will no longer have the version that came pre loaded on the note 2.
Is the apk of the demo really warez? If you can't download it from EA, Samsung, or T-mobile then I would say yes.
Still feel screwed over by T-mobile/Samsung on this one as it was miss leading since I thought I was purchasing an app from the play store, not some other market.

Thank You Sir, I understand now, but the issue of the apk/link listed and removed...is it a paid app or not that was listed, if paid then app listed or was the app being looked for a request for app...

OP a few things here:
1) First I do not play games on my phone, but lots do, but I do now apps/paid/demo...as stated in the above comments, does your carrier have a history of free & paid>>apps/demos, just like Google Play. Last time I checked, if I had a paid version of anything, you could still download and install the free version of that app, but why. And if it came with your phone well learning to back your app, if you decide to try another ROM is a must.
2) But then if it is a demo why are you paying for it and if you did pay for a demo you cannot list/give it away on XDA>>>due to it being a paid {demo} app. That is piracy, hence the removal of your links and or thread closure.
3) As for this comment, if and fact your point is valid, I would of sent a PM outlining my points and with proof to the Moderator that you have a question on or questioning their "God" like attitude. I agree I could have posted this to the mod directly but since you still do not know the meaning of warez it wouldn't have helped him understand either. The game posted is still a demo. and to activate it you have to pay through tmobile. you ask why i would pay for a demo? is that a question for real? anyway yes i can back up the game once i have a stock rooted rom blah blah. I have been doing this before you owned a cellphone so no biggie. but you are the boss here so I will obey your rules if i want to play here. the reason i started this thread is because so brat too over the other one that but once again i hear the rantings of kids that can only talk **** behind a computer and aren't even old enough to have a mortgage.

Thanks for making it clear. I originally typed this from my phone. You understood what I meant without much detail due to the fact that you are in the same predicament. I would have hoped to get the response only from someone who was dealing with the same issue but instead people replied without knowing the details I failed to explain. From now on I will post as if I am speaking to my students and my children I long detail.

Understood and Noted, Sir. But your tone is lacking, I am addressing you and this thread in manner to better understand. BTW I would ask you realize I am not one of these kids....and no I am not the boss here or anywhere, I am a Member just like, and I contribute to XDA in my way as a Moderator. I have addressed you in an adult like manner, and Sir I am very aware of what a warez is, and your "for real" question, yes I asked if it was a paid demo.
Bottom-line this app or link, was it>> to a paid app demo or not.
Thank You & Thread Closed as per OP
Hi Guys,
Has anybody had any issues trying to update their phone with the jump program.
I went into the tmobile store on 1/12 and the rep pulled up my account and indicated that I an eligible on 1/14. I would need to go into the store to do the upgrade.
On 1/14 I went into the store and asked to update from the S4 to a white G2. Well, to my surprise they did not have any white G2's and could not have one shipped to me because they jump program does not allow shipping to an address. They could not even ship it to the store. They called around and found a store 45m in from me that had a white G2.
Off I went to the store. I spent 1.5 hours in the store while the reps tried to process the upgrade but could not. Had customer service on the line and still no luck. Eventually I had to leave because this was taking 2.5 hours out my day.
I called customer service about 3 times yesterday and still no luck. They indicated that they cannot do anything as the Jump program must be done from a store. I stopped in at another store last night and the same issue. Unable to complete the process.
I am so frustrated with tmobile right now. Do they not test this before they launch it. Maybe the same company that build the Obama Care is managing the tmobile site.
:crying::crying::crying:Let me know if you guys have had any luck.
Sean
Wow I've never heard of a situation like this but, what I would do is call around to make sure that theres a T-Mobile that has the N3, (that's what I did) and just go pick it up

Were you able to get a new phone with the jump program? The guys at the store seemed like a bunch of "Yahoos" and I'm not sure they know what they are doing. Nobody seems to have completed the jump redeem procedure yet.
So, I called customer service today and the rep said they are looking into the issue with the jump program and she has all my details and would give me a call on Wed, Jan 22
You would really think it would take them a day to fix this issue.
Not impressed.
They told you jump has to be done at a store? I did it online.

My local tmobile store fixed my issues finally. I went to the store close to my house and the guys there are really helpful. He got all my issues with the account fix up and today I got my white G2 in the mail.
Thanks guys at the store for taking the time to resolve my issue and spending all the time on the phone with customer care.
Thanks tmobile.
Complaint Box
When anything first comes out it is not buttery smooth expect a little hiccups with the first round of using jump. You got in on the opening days of jump and got a new device. You experience some turbulence but got your new phone. It is because of people like you that complain about the smallest inconveniences in a great thing that give good things bad names. If you plan on keeping up with the best and latest devices you cant beat jump. Why dont you go out and buy a 4k tv as well and complain about it looking the same as 1080p as well while you are at it. (if you dont know what I am talking about. It is because there isnt a whole lot of stuff that is 4k quality yet it is all still 1080p and that is all you would get. even though 4k is better you just have to wait for the services to come available)
