Hi all,
Does anyone knows why on non Sense roms like CM, MIUI, and derivative of those ones. MMS doesn't want to download attachments?
I post it in dev section because there is a lot of complaints regarding mms download when I search in google but no real answer while it's system related...
I'm in Virgin Mobile France (Orange network)
APNs are set the same on all roms.
Data is active
wifi disabled
tried with stock app and with handcent
The problem occurs on other networks as I can read on the net...
On non Sense rom I can receive MMS notification but clicking on download launch it but come back the button while on Sense like Aurax the attachement is dowloaded.
It's not the first time at all but it really anoyng me as I would like to use CM or MIUI.
Thanks to all devs.
hi
i'm exactly in the same situation than you !
I tried resetting the APN and recreating the MMS by hand and noticed that the MMS protocol version (1.2 or 2.0) wasn't available on non sense roms.
Sending MMS is working fine...
Can't receive nothing though
It might be linked to that, i don't know...
I'm using Leedroid 2.2f
You should definitely check your settings. Also check if there are some alternate configs for your operator. I had a similar problem - mms notification received, but download just didn't work. So I went on and saw that there were 2 sets of settings for my operator, typed the other set and it worked fine.
Also it would be much more helpful to attach logcat logs from the time you press the download button

To be honest I don't really understand what you mean by different config and I d'ont know how to take logcats lol.
EDIT: As far as I know there is only one config for mms on orange network. I've tried to disable proxy server without success.
there is 2 apn configured on my phone
VM (virgin mobile) and MMS Orange (same network)
why is there a difference in the available APN settings between sense and non sense rom ?

because for DATA VM doesn't use the same (APN name and server value are different) but for MMS it's exactly the same.
apn
BTW what you've said is interesting because I use to have the choice to select VM during the initial startup on Sense Roms while I don't have it on other ones.
When I said difference between apn settings I meant that you dont get the MMS Protocol setting in the non sense rom, while you get it on stock roms
I just installed defrost 6e and still no luck ... how about you ?

Rom
I moved to j-style miui rom which is damn great... except that I don't have mms lol.
I've wrote a message to the developer. Let's see if he will try to find what happens.
Lol thats no luck again !
Can you check if you have the mms protocol option in the apn settings ? It's the onlu difference i noticed with sense rom..

I have found that Handcent will not download MMS Messages properly. If you go to the Stock Messaging App and download it through there it should work.
I have to do that on my Phone running CM6 Nightlies.
Hi

As I'm running MIUI, Ill try to take the mms.apk from Oxygen because finally I don't think that the issue is APN related as everyone seems using uge APN list from I don't know who ?)
some guys say that if you chance the SMS/MMS user agent to iphone or Blackberry it work better... i didn't try...
I'm not sure it comes from the MMS.apk because SMS app in oxygen is skinned in white an di wanted it in black so I replaced it with the one from defrost 6d and everything still works
mmm that's all so weird !

The thing is that I can't find that parameter any more in AOSP nor in handcent and it's not present in MIUI roms...
Did you go to the SMS/MMS > Settings > User agent ?
quick info : in the latest rc2 cyanogen mod they cleaned up the APN list and it solves the MMS issues for me
by the way the latest cynogen is just brilliant !!

I have missed something somewhere
I have an HTC Desire from a local CDMA carrier Carolina West, that MMS is not working properly. I do have the latest nightly for the bravoc cymod and everything is working except mms. The funny thing is, everyone keeps telling me about these mms settings and I get it but I don't get where to go and find these settings to change them at all. It seems for most people you just go to settings-wireless and networks-mobile networks and then click on apn, but mine doesn't have that apn setting button! Can anyone tell me what to do or point me in the right direction

Hi!
You should be to find apn in "mobile network" which is in wireless section.

so latest pacman rom wont let me finish this. i use voice dialer to open apn settings and nothing happens. downloaded a shortcut for it and apparently jellybean doesnt allow 3rd party apps to change apns. so im stuck
Re: guide for working cricket mms
I have not used v19.9 I am still on v19.3 and mine works. Sometimes you have to try a couple times to get into APN settings using voice. You may want to ask the dev how to get into the APN. Or try v19.3

somewhere in your apns-config.xml you have made a mistake. i had "autocorrect problems. your apns-config.xml has to match your apn created or your created will disappear. but did you test it? this happened to me on evervol, but mms still worked. i have attached a screenshot of apns-config. put your number where the x's are
also there is a build.prop and a build.prop~ edit both the same way

Tried again and went through it with a fine toothed comb. When auto correct did change something I would fix it but still no go. I'm not new to messing with cricket apns as I did it a couple years ago with my og moto droid i flashed from verizon to cricket every time I flashed a new ROM as well but back then we needed the auto start apk as well. I just can't get the apns To save after creating them. Also, went to about phone after messing work the build prop and network carrier still says virgin mobile
either here or in pm let me see a couple screen shots of your apn-config.xml and your build.prop in the right places. also did you change both build.prop. and mine too states virgin mobile in phone info on the testing menu. have you tried a test to your email?
do you have your es file explorer set with all the check marks under root checked?
Re: guide for working cricket mms
Found the problem, under MNC it should be 16 instead of 016. It won't save with the zero for some reason it deletes the whole apn

I've noticed a few questions about getting MMS working on sprint S3's that are flashed to cricket so I thought I'd post this to help out some.I am by now means an expert but I have flashed a lot of phones and through much trial and error found out what works.
TouchWiz bases ROM's
1st option is a paid solution so I won't post a link but you can PM me.
2nd option GoSMS which can be downloaded from google play install it, 1st go to setting>advanced>mms settings, check the box that says Fill apn configuration manually MMSC should be http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms?x-cricket-mdn=xxx_xxx_xxxx x's being your phone number
2nd MMS Proxy should be wap.mycricket.com
3rd MMS Port should be 8080 after this it will work a lot of the guides i've seen will tell you proxy is mms.cricket.com i've never had that work.
3rd option follow this post step by step a liitle more involved but you can use stock messaging http://www.cricketusers.com/cdma-sa...-s3-mms-solution-confirmed-working-great.html
CM,AOSP and AOKP ROM's
1st and really only option you will need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649508 this solution was developed by Cornaljoe for the samsung epic however i have tested it on many phones and it has always worked well make sure to thank him for his hard work.
I hope this helps I have personally used all of these and they all work. any questions just ask and if anyone needs help flashing this phone to cricket just send me a PM and i'll be glad to help.
Note to mods I hope this is in the right place.

settings don't stick
I have tried all the Touch Wiz methods from the original post and they all get reset automatically back to stock Sprint settings.
I am using a Sprint S3 SPH-L710 on stock 4.1.2 rooted with clockwork mod recovery.
I flashed it to Cricket myself using the tutorial on Cricket Users forum. I really expected to find a solution there, but I see a couple of people with the same problem I am having. The reason I rooted it is because of the "confirmed working" solution over there, but it does the same thing and resets mms setting back to Sprint.
I know I am following all the directions to the letter, and like I said I have sent and received text pictures but then the settings revert back to Sprint.
This is extremely frustrating because I See others posting that it works and mine just keeps resetting.
What am I missing?
Or is there something in a phone released with 4.1.2 that is changing the settings?

Thank you for your reply.
I did try what you posted and it worked the same as before until the settings reset.
I believe I may have figured it out since you pointed me to the build.prop edit.
I found a couple of different posts here on xda and a couple of other forums for different device models that pointed me to which files to edit or delete. I have read so many different threads about this I am not sure exactly where I got which files that worked.
But in a nutshell, I had the wrong mnc in my apn.
I edited build.prop, apn, dss, & various other unrelated settings, slashing and burning whatever got in my path.
310016 was what worked for me if that helps anyone else, somehow I had it switched to 310090 in apns-conf.xml and build.prop still said 310120.
And for whatever reason, my alarm has not reset the notification melody again.
Wifi on, no settings reset. Sent and received with both GoSMS Pro and whichever mms.apk I switched in there. I'm really not sure where I got it, but it shows to be 624KB installed. I notice that all the ones I found are a little bit different size.
I am really liking this S3, it's a big improvement over my out-of-the-box stock ZTE Score.

cricket messaging app not working right after 4.3 update on S3
Okay, seems like everyone is having problems with sending and/or receiving MMS on flashed (to Cricket) Sprint S3. Just recently, I purchased a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3. The guy flashed it to Cricket and when I got home, I noticed that I couldn't receive MMS. Instead of calling him back, I decided to find a fix myself to be able to receive MMS on the native messaging app. So this is what I did:
1.Dial ##3282# (this opens the Data Programming Menu)
2.Tap on "Edit" and enter your MSL Code (000000)
3.Go to "MMSC", then "MMSC URL"
4.Change the url to: (see attached image) and hit Okay to apply.
5.Go to MMSC Proxy and change that to "0.0.0.0"
6.Reboot phone and make sure you're connected to 3G.
7.Have someone send you a MMS and it should download and open, using the native messaging app, with no problem!!!
It worked for me and I haven't had a problem since I changed the MMSC URL and Proxy.
Have Fun Sending & Receiving MMS!!!!

Thank you so much! To make things even more confusing when I was using cyanogenmod 10 rom mms was working perfectly, however I found the rom to be buggy, VERY SLOW and all around confusing. So I figured if I used the apn-conf.xml from that and put it in jellybreads apn-conf.xml (despite cgm's being sprit) ot should work! No dice. Ill give yours a shot n let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

If that APN is what got you hot and bothered, lol, be certain to link back to it in other threads for other users to be able to configure their setup as well. I don't even use my Evo for anything more than a music player, so I could very well not be capable of much more here.

well that apn work specifically for jellybread. Ive been searching for as i said 3 days for a simple custom rom that was stable and fast and fully functional (Minus 4g :,-() . all of them seemed to have major flaws, slow and bloated, threw my phone in a loop, far too many options confusing me.
but for wimax I'm convinced that since I have 4g included in my plan for cricket if i could figure out the right settings in qpst I could get on 4g too. Id probably get a heart attack though from excitement. Ive seen youtube videos for it but i could only hope. ill try posting a new thread for that though.
bless you!

Id probably get a heart attack though from excitement. Ive seen youtube videos for it but i could only hope. ill try posting a new thread for that though.
bless you!

The other cricket users of JellyBread and Kendallc123 herself may be as ecstatic as you if you can get 4g working with cricket, but you should link to this in the JellyBread thread so that the cricket users there see it. Also I'd thank user/dev Wambo_Bomb, since he is the one who left me that APN when he gave me his old Evo.
i spoke too soon. my phone said the message was sent, which before it wasn't even doing that but they aren't getting the pictures on the receiving phone. back to trying out different roms :,-(
though i despise having 2 different numbers for messaging and despise having a app for text and another for mms i suppose i can just use my text free account from pinger for images and my phone for text. obnoxious but it is a work around i suppose.

Cricket 4g will never work on the og. The reason is simple cricket 4g is lte while the og is wimax. Now as far as mms that will work but you have to make changes to the apn. I have attached one that I know works but you will have to edit the username in the apn. Unlike most carriers each cricket user has a unique user name. It is your phone number here is an example ( [email protected]). Easiest way way to do this is get apn backup and restore from playstore. Backup your current apn and then copy this one into the apnbackup folder that was created and edit the username. Turn on airplane mode delete apn then restore the cricket_sprint.XML file. Reboot phone and turn off airplane mode.
As long as your settings are correct in qpst then this will get your mms working. If you need further help feel free to pm me.

thank you for the link ill give it a shot. as i said before I've tried MANY apn settings so i do know how to do it. every apn ive tried for cricket or metropcs though has had different numbers in the other lines. (NOT the MDN line, i know you have to put your number in the mdn line) My settings in qpst have to be correct or internet wouldn't be working as well, because as I said the cryogenmod 10 rom was the only rom that mms, (and everything eles worked) for even though the apn was set to sprit. (makes no sense to me but it worked) But the rom was pretty much unusable on my phone with how much battery it drained, (2 and a half hours and the batter was gone) how slow it was, (cpu usage was constantly at 998mhz) and the rom was all around confusing for someone SOMEWHAT new to this stuff with too many options i didn't understand.
I think its something other than apn settings because the cryogenmod rom worked for mms and internet though the apn was set to sprint. all other roms ive tried has had either sms not working and/or mms not working and/or phone not working and/or contact lists not working something for the basic phone functions causes force close errors with all other mods.
once again it didn't work. the pictures say sent but are not being recived by the person im sending them too. SMS that are too long and converted to MMS come arcoss as code to the person they are sent too. I dont understand why one rom with sprint apn settings would work but this one wont. is it possible for roms to change qpst settings? i cant tell anymore though as i cant enter diagnostic mode.

BTW i switched back to the stock htc sense rom.
I installed SHOstock3 ROM onto my I777 yesterday. After messing around with my phone, I found a few errors but the most pressing is no mobile data. My plan was through AT&T but now its through NET10. I entered in a new APN with NET10s settins (tfdata) but no dice. I have read on this forum that I might have to delete the 3 AT&T APNs that are listed but I cant delete them.
I triple checked my APN settings for NET10 but still no dice. Must I flash the modem?
Thanks.
do you have cell service at all

My phone can do the following:
Make calls
Receive calls*
Sent SMSs
Receive SMSs
Connect to wifi
My phone cannot do:
Connect to mobile data. Full signal, correct APN settings through NET10
* I have recieved any calls since I flashed my phone but since I can call out, I assume I can receive.

You're crappy reply back is probably a major factor in the lack of assistance.
Have you tried any of the settings in this forum?
http://androidforums.com/net10/676048-net10-byop-apn-settings.html
Setup #1 seems to work for some, with APN listed as blank.

None of the OP settings work but the post towards the bottom of the page does.
Screw this stupid forum rule. I tried to list all of the settings that worked for me but the rule that says I cant post link until I have 10 or more posts wont let me. Sorry, I tried to list something here that would be helpfull but the help included links that I cannot post.
I had an APN setup that was close to that but I didnt have any proxies in. My OEM ROM didnt need them but I see that this custom ROM does. I need to do more testing but the quick test that I did showed 3G and H+. OEM ROM showed 4G all the time from what I can remember. Thank you!

Orginal question has been answered (THANKS!) but just like before, MMS messaging does not work. Time for a new thread (once I get 10 or more posts)

I believe when sms is converted to mms, it then runs off the data line. I dunno what to tell this guy. If he says he checked his settings and they are okay then I dunno. Double check with net10, if not then just sick it up and move over to metro or redpocket, maybe another mvno.
He shouldn't get all prissy over forum rules. We're all dealt with it. Keeps the people asking for a hand out away.

Sounds easy to me, find the right MMS proxy. I looked at the link I gave him for possibles, no fricking clue which one he referencing as soft of working.
I saw four different ones.

Stock messaging works (SMS) but if I try to send an MMS with the stock messaging program, it never goes through. I have never tried another program. I had hangout for a while but I got rid of it.

But web surfing works ???
You most likely need to find the right MMS proxy server and it's port. Most likely it's 80, I haven't seen one that's been 8080 in a while.
Is mms one if the things in the "apn type" field?

As soon as I get the privilege to post links, I will post what worked for me. The info I used is not in the OP of that thread, its towards the bottom of the page and was posted by someone other than the OP. The post has a lot of thanks for it was well.

What the hell try adding these...
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
And like mindmajick asked, is there anything in your APN TYPE? Most of the examples I see for NET10 say leave it as not set.

I set the MMS proxy as you said but still no dice. APN TYPE was MMS but is now blank. Still nothing.
When you flashed your custom ROM, you may have nuked your APN settings!
As the title says, I think your problem may be related to custom ROMs wiping out APN settings that may have come from the store (or put in by Net10 upon activation/initialization of the phone), and if that's the case, I think I can help you!
I've just gotten done activating (read: porting), configuring, flashing with custom ROMs, and setting up APN settings on 4 unlocked phones that we brought to Net10 (on AT&T's network, via the BYOP program, since these are unlocked GSM/WCDMA phones), I believe I can assist you here.
Rather than trying random combinations of APN settings to try and find one that works, if you call Net10 Customer Support (877-836-2368), all you have to do (once you tell them your phone number/SIM serial number) is ask for someone who can assist you in updating the APN settings for unlocked phones.
You'll be transfered to a different section of Net10's/Tracfone's Technical Support, and whoever picks up will likely tell you they can assist you once you repeat what it is you need help with. They'll tell you the usuals (make sure WiFi, Bluetooth, and Airplane Mode are off, and make sure Cellular Data is enabled, but not Cellular Roaming Data), and then they'll tell you to go down into your SIM/Mobile Network settings screen, and create a New APN. They'll read off the settings they should have, and they they will (or if they don't, you should ask them to "resend the switch and update the settings on their end" in those _exact_ terms, as they've cut the times for this from 3 hours to less than 30 minutes per phone for me).
Then they'll tell you to select the new APN settings, and reboot the phone (or turn it off and back on if your ROM doesn't have a reboot option); they'll have you attempt to open a browser and pull a page down (I highly suggest a mobile site of some sort, being that they're the lightest; it'll either work here or not, there is no "to what degree does it work"). If it doesn't work, they'll give you different settings (though it's not taken more than two APN setting tries for me, and that's mainly because of the area I live in), and then try the browser again. Once the browser is able to pull a mobile site, they'll ask you to try sending a picture message (again, I reccommend a small picture, as it either works or doesn't, so the size will only hold you up longer the bigger it is), even if it's just to yourself.
I've found that if you're simply respectful and paitent with them (as they sometimes have to spend 10 minutes putting various bits of data into other spots on their computers), they will be able to get it done for you within half an hour per phone.
I would highly reccommend that you don't mention your custom ROM however; so long as it doesn't interfere with the APN settings they will never know any better when you tell them you just have a "Samsung Galaxy Note II", and they'll be none the wiser as they fix it for you (because it realistically makes no difference in a problem like this).
If you mention it however, they won't want to help, because they don't know anything about custom ROMs (it seems they're all very terrified of them, and believe they are the spawn of Pewdiepie and Justain Beiber or something similar! XD)
Hoping I've been able to help you here, since I've extremely recent knowledge/experiences to do with the APN settings myself! (Also post whoring as I apparently need 10 before I can let the developers of my custom ROM know about some bugs I've found, go figure!)
If I'm incorrect on the issue, then I'm terribly sorry, and please feel free to ignore me -- I do not claim to be affialiated with Net10, Samsung, whatever ROM you have/whoever wrote/maintains it, etc., and am only trying to be helpful where your problem sounds like something I've dealt with before.
EDIT: I just realized I left out the most important bit! The entire reason for calling them instead of working through all the various permutations of APN setting combos is because your APN settings will be based on [A] your SIM, your phone (NOT ROM, just the phone's IMEI pairing to the SIMs), and [C] your home area/location you use the phone most often.
