MMS issues on non sense roms - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Does anyone knows why on non Sense roms like CM, MIUI, and derivative of those ones. MMS doesn't want to download attachments?
I post it in dev section because there is a lot of complaints regarding mms download when I search in google but no real answer while it's system related...
I'm in Virgin Mobile France (Orange network)
APNs are set the same on all roms.
Data is active
wifi disabled
tried with stock app and with handcent
The problem occurs on other networks as I can read on the net...
On non Sense rom I can receive MMS notification but clicking on download launch it but come back the button while on Sense like Aurax the attachement is dowloaded.
It's not the first time at all but it really anoyng me as I would like to use CM or MIUI.
Thanks to all devs.

hi
i'm exactly in the same situation than you !
I tried resetting the APN and recreating the MMS by hand and noticed that the MMS protocol version (1.2 or 2.0) wasn't available on non sense roms.
Sending MMS is working fine...
Can't receive nothing though
It might be linked to that, i don't know...
I'm using Leedroid 2.2f

You should definitely check your settings. Also check if there are some alternate configs for your operator. I had a similar problem - mms notification received, but download just didn't work. So I went on and saw that there were 2 sets of settings for my operator, typed the other set and it worked fine.
Also it would be much more helpful to attach logcat logs from the time you press the download button

To be honest I don't really understand what you mean by different config and I d'ont know how to take logcats lol.
EDIT: As far as I know there is only one config for mms on orange network. I've tried to disable proxy server without success.

there is 2 apn configured on my phone
VM (virgin mobile) and MMS Orange (same network)
why is there a difference in the available APN settings between sense and non sense rom ?

because for DATA VM doesn't use the same (APN name and server value are different) but for MMS it's exactly the same.

apn
BTW what you've said is interesting because I use to have the choice to select VM during the initial startup on Sense Roms while I don't have it on other ones.

When I said difference between apn settings I meant that you dont get the MMS Protocol setting in the non sense rom, while you get it on stock roms

I just installed defrost 6e and still no luck ... how about you ?

Rom
I moved to j-style miui rom which is damn great... except that I don't have mms lol.
I've wrote a message to the developer. Let's see if he will try to find what happens.

Lol thats no luck again !
Can you check if you have the mms protocol option in the apn settings ? It's the onlu difference i noticed with sense rom..

I have found that Handcent will not download MMS Messages properly. If you go to the Stock Messaging App and download it through there it should work.
I have to do that on my Phone running CM6 Nightlies.

As I'm running MIUI, Ill try to take the mms.apk from Oxygen because finally I don't think that the issue is APN related as everyone seems using uge APN list from I don't know who ?)

some guys say that if you chance the SMS/MMS user agent to iphone or Blackberry it work better... i didn't try...
I'm not sure it comes from the MMS.apk because SMS app in oxygen is skinned in white an di wanted it in black so I replaced it with the one from defrost 6d and everything still works
mmm that's all so weird !

The thing is that I can't find that parameter any more in AOSP nor in handcent and it's not present in MIUI roms...

Did you go to the SMS/MMS > Settings > User agent ?

quick info : in the latest rc2 cyanogen mod they cleaned up the APN list and it solves the MMS issues for me
by the way the latest cynogen is just brilliant !!

I have missed something somewhere
I have an HTC Desire from a local CDMA carrier Carolina West, that MMS is not working properly. I do have the latest nightly for the bravoc cymod and everything is working except mms. The funny thing is, everyone keeps telling me about these mms settings and I get it but I don't get where to go and find these settings to change them at all. It seems for most people you just go to settings-wireless and networks-mobile networks and then click on apn, but mine doesn't have that apn setting button! Can anyone tell me what to do or point me in the right direction

Hi!
You should be to find apn in "mobile network" which is in wireless section.

MMS on 2.2 AOSP only with mobile data on?

Why?
The correct way of working should be that the MMS connection starts itself when an mms is leaving or arriving...
On CM6 and others 2.2 i tried i have to start everytime the mobila data.
Any way to change this? In the stock 2.1 it worked like i say...
Thanks!
Same thing on 1.2 floyo.
It is the wrong thread, probably will be moved to q&a

They work but you have to enable mobile data. For incoming MMS, my operator send an advice so i can activate it when it's needed.
Non so bad but hope it can be fixed...
Did anyone try this (i.e. cyanogenmod forums, xda forums, etc.)?
For example, I found this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/3558-incoming-mms-resized-to-8kb-solved/
or the last post on this one (which is the same supposed solution if I am not mistaken):
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2982-sending-mms-without-data-plan-possible/
Another thread I found on cyanogenmod forums, said that with ChompSMS it works fine (although with the builtin messaging it does not).
This appears to be a quite common problem, not specific to the hero, and I think that if someone seriously devouts some time and effort searching for a solution on the internet they will find it - hopefully they can also share it with the rest here.
Please note, that I can't do this, even if I wanted, since in every ROM I have tried I could never send/receive MMS and I don't have a data plan - my telephone company still thinks I have the same phone from 7 years ago....
I tried the solution linked by erasmux but nothing solved.
I tried all the user agent i have in the list... No mmswith stock app or handcent.
I have Solved this thing by using "Hisurfing". with "Hisurfing-APN Switcher widget" if u turn it off then only the APN for Internet goes off not the MMS APN. Secondly u must have enabled the Data.
I am currently using CM 6.1

[Q] MMS in gingerbread not working.

I've tried both Oxygen and Gingervillian with the same problem, no MMS. Internet works on cell network and MMS works fine on Leedroid. Any ideas?

check ur apn's (access point names)
I found this too, with both of those ROMs, and redux, and ultimate droid as well so I was beginning to think it was a gingerbread thing in general,
but I've had it working on all of these ROMs since then.
Presuming you do have the correct APN, read on. . .
I didn't have to do anything to make it work, it just seems to need a stronger signal then 2.2 so as long as I'm in part of the house where I know the signal is good, it will work.
I'd say 1 bar = no chance
2 bars = you may be lucky
3 bars = likely to work
4 bars = fine
Also, be patient. With all of these ROMs, every time I try to send an MMS, my data connection completely disappears - without exception.
If you hang on though, it will come back, sometimes it takes a minute or maybe a little more, then the MMS will send 30-60 secs after that.
Its not ideal, but it does work.

As far as I can tell the APN is correct. And like I said, internet works.

All Gingerbread roms are in RC and arn't properly stable yet so there is bound to be some bugs and stuff. Try CM7 cause for me, that actually seems to be the most stable Gingerbread rom there is and it actually works.
Trying the latest cyanogemod rom now. Not working either.

Help?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Hey here's something interesting. In Leedroid the only way I can send mms is with the stick messenger. If I try with handscent it won't work. Any thoughts?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
To be honest, despite my earlier comments about slow MMS on Gingerbread ROMs, I never had any problem when using Leedroid.
What network are you with?
I'm with Orange UK
I'm on Orange PL. I discovered that if I change the file limit to 100K in Handscent on LeeDroid, then it works. Still can't get Gingerbread roms to work. The only difference I can find is that LeeDroid has an extra option in MMS settings allowing for a MMS protocol that's suppose to be set to WAP 2.0. Gingerbread is missing this option.
Something else to remember:
HTC Sense's messenger compresses the crap out of MMS images. Typically images i send are under 50KB, while with Default gingerbread messenger it'll try to send files at the default max of 300KB, which is why it takes longer to send. For me though, sending an MMS image just spins and spins. I've left it for more then 10 minutes with no results, not even an error.
Man, that sucks.
I never had to change any of the settings in any ROM for it to work.
Beamed from the depths of my mind, by telepathy.
Well after fiddling with it, I think I got an MMS to send. I had to delete and re-enter all of the apn settings, reboot the phone, then wait 15 minutes for the phone to decide to activate the data radio. Then when I chose to resend the picture, it went though.
Now I wonder what will happen when I re-enter the Internet APN...
It appears that when I add the internet apn, mms no longer works. Internet works fine. I was able to connect with H speeds, no problem just no mms. Once I deleted the internet apn, leaving the mms apn, rebooted then cycled the mobile data, mms came back on.
It's a very weird issue.

I am on the carrier Telus in Canada. My desire sends MMS as an unsupported type even with APN backup and restore. It just doesn't work without the MMS Protocol option.
Any luck?
I had the same problem on my HD2 and Gingerbread - Internet was ok , SMS too, but MMS could not be sent!
And: I got it running!!
You just have to clear the Data-Cache of the SMS/MMS-App:
Goto settings > applications > manage applications > all > SMS/MMS => 'clear Data' (if 'force stopping' is active please click on it first)
Hello
I had the same problem. On your apn settings, you have to put 2 setups, 1 for internet (default, suppl, mms) , and 1 for mms (mms). Delete all over apn settings, then it works.

xT4Z1N4TRx's ICS Rom...Cant send/recieve MMS

Does anyone have the correct APN settings for xT4Z1N4TRx's ICS Rom?
I believe that "the correct apn settings" do not exist for any kind of rom. The apn settings depend on which carrier you're on.
Usually a quick google search for apn settings + your carrier should lead you to what you're looking for.
I'm assuming you're on T-Mobile like I am. I searched the dev thread and multiple people are reporting that MMS just hangs on "Sending...". No one has found T-Mobile APN settings (myself included) that work with the most current build. People were reporting that earlier builds had working MMS, so I think it might be a rom issue.
Thanks guys...yea, I just downloaded the latest update which is working great btw. I just recently saw people saying that mms were working about 2 downgrades ago. I flashed that one and the mms were working. Copied over those exact apns to the latest rom and got nothing. So like u said, might just be rom. Thanks anyways

[QUESTION] MMS on Simple Mobile

Has anyone figured out MMS for our phone on the Simple Mobile service? This is my 4th phone on their network and the apn settings I've used in the past will get me data but not MMS. Can someone with a functioning MMS please post their settings? Thanks in advance!!

Are you on a custom rom??? if so what ROM... I know for stock the settings are on their website you just either find your phone for programming or use android 2.1 and up settings. Setting up your APN for data also sets up mms there is no seperate settting for mms on Android.

Good catch. I'm running AOKP. But let me ask, are you currently using those settings and have MMS or are you speaking hypothetically?
Edit: After 5 or so reboots the settings from the Simple Mobile programming guide are now working for MMS. v3rsatile23, thanks for chiming in and helping. Your comment motivated me to go back to those settings and just try a bunch of reboots.

Well thats good as long as its working.... When i flash AOKP or CM9 the APN settings are already set up their own certain way to only work for the AOKP or CM9 rom.. I dont touch anything except for username and passord because if you leave those blank you wont get data or mms. THe username is password and the password is password.. Then boom data and mms work like a charm. Just an fyi in case you happen to flash a different rom and wont have to go throught the hassle of changing the apn settings to what simple mobile says on their website and rebooting so many times. This is only certain ROMs though.
I dont have to change or add anything to the settings and my mms works without a flaw. Actually I tried removing the IP address as well as leaving it in after a flash and works both ways.
Now sending mms over wifi I am having issues with or at least for me it does not work. If someone has gotten that to work on Simple please let me knw

so latest pacman rom wont let me finish this. i use voice dialer to open apn settings and nothing happens. downloaded a shortcut for it and apparently jellybean doesnt allow 3rd party apps to change apns. so im stuck
Re: guide for working cricket mms
I have not used v19.9 I am still on v19.3 and mine works. Sometimes you have to try a couple times to get into APN settings using voice. You may want to ask the dev how to get into the APN. Or try v19.3

somewhere in your apns-config.xml you have made a mistake. i had "autocorrect problems. your apns-config.xml has to match your apn created or your created will disappear. but did you test it? this happened to me on evervol, but mms still worked. i have attached a screenshot of apns-config. put your number where the x's are
also there is a build.prop and a build.prop~ edit both the same way

Tried again and went through it with a fine toothed comb. When auto correct did change something I would fix it but still no go. I'm not new to messing with cricket apns as I did it a couple years ago with my og moto droid i flashed from verizon to cricket every time I flashed a new ROM as well but back then we needed the auto start apk as well. I just can't get the apns To save after creating them. Also, went to about phone after messing work the build prop and network carrier still says virgin mobile
either here or in pm let me see a couple screen shots of your apn-config.xml and your build.prop in the right places. also did you change both build.prop. and mine too states virgin mobile in phone info on the testing menu. have you tried a test to your email?
do you have your es file explorer set with all the check marks under root checked?
Re: guide for working cricket mms
Found the problem, under MNC it should be 16 instead of 016. It won't save with the zero for some reason it deletes the whole apn
