Okay, so here in the world of new HTC devices, S-off isnt as easy. Thats why I'm starting a thread for brainstorming. First off, heres some things ive noticed. This could be a generic campaign really.
New HTC devices, feed panda works when they have an sdcard. (EVO LTE for example)
The One V searches for files when put in Hboot. One of these is a DIAG file which can be used to soff cdma phones.
The partition the soff flag (and unlock) lies on, is indeed write protected
Hboot is signed, any attemt to flash an unsigned one will brick the phone unless radio soff (so no patches)
Heres what i have come to at least guess at about boot
Phone gets power signal. hboot checks the partitions and compares them. Replaces changes with origional if they are detected. proceding hboot checks if it is unlocked. if unlocked enable all fastboot commands. next, start booting the kernel. If signature not present check for soff or unlock and display the warning about htc legal stuff blah blah blah.. Next let kernel take it from there. However, like the wire trick, if the gpio doesnt get enough power, it will go to qhusb download mode. Meaning, feed panda may actually work from there on. All just ideas as of now though.
I found this petition https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEVOaXl4R09QV0hqYVFKbElUQ1RZWmc6MQ#gid=0
sent from heaven.....
eh i signed it long ago. But thats not good enough. We must develop an soff method ourselves. HTC wont give in, obviously, because they make it harder and harder to soff.
Well for start, if we knew a way to get into QHSUSB_DOWNLOAD mode, and to get out of it without problems we could try to go further but we don't

I know that but we don't want an s-off brick do we
well, i just tried that for the heck of messing with it. QPST recognized it. Nuff said... NOTE this was the CDMA version i messed with and NOTE i aint repeating to test that again. Heres some more i know though. HTC loves there write protection. P5 which has our soff flag is indeed write protected. Its even write protects in qhusb mode.
take a look here:
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?13987-Partitions-list-for-referencing
There are some unknown partitions. Ones im not sure what they do. And then there are 2 that are mirror identicals
Well, If you can write hboot and radio then it could be possible. In another thread i posted a test rom containg mfg hboot (for primou though!). But obviously that is very dangerous, and I doubt some one will dare to try, unless he already has a brick.
nope hboot only wont work and radio is definitively write protected.. If its not signed AND your not radio s-off it will "brick" although flashing wrong hboot is recoverable with emmc repair. at least on the onex htc forgot to write protect hboot, which allowed that. So next idea, break something in the boot order, which allows you to stop boot before WP is enabled. That sends you to download mode, but you can then flash a patched soff img to that partition and even a patched hboot. Worst comes to worst here you get thrown back into dowload mode when you reboot again (where you just got to find your way out and yes i dont want to hear it there is a way out. ALWAYS a way out, or HTC couldnt use it either)

How do you get into download mode and how do you reboot once inside?
First off, wrong thread for the mount thing. But you need busybox, and to run the busybox mount....
And second, when i went into download mode i used vol up+down +power for like a minute or so.. That rebooted the phone just fine
Okay so i have a bricked device and not thinking of getting it repaired either so im good to test anything you need me to test just let me know what you want testing and ill give it a go
Well I have a few ideas. Hit me up on gtalk simonsimons34(at)gmail.com well see about getting you unbricked as well

New idea and I need a tester. The only thing we would be doing is seeing if HTC is stupid or not in this case

I was given one and still at DC20. I'll dump it once home.
Not much use for it without the actual s-off tho?

Okay, YES I know this is on the limit for this sub-forum, but give me a minute to explain...
1. I have no Desire experience, hang out in the Nexus forums myself
2. I have an S-OFF Desire at the moment
3. I have no idea if this is commonly available or even useful
4. I SEARCHED (want the list: "s-off", "s-on", "unlocked bootloader", "bootloader", "unlocked H-BOOT", "H-BOOT", "is this worth my time", etc)
...and I only want relevant attention for 12 hours or so...
So, mods and peeps, bear with me... either please politely say "no" and close the thread or say "yes" and pm me.
gracis
it must usefull if you can clone the SPL out
If you could dump the hboot, it would definitely be worth a quick prod and a poke to see if its any use!
We need a dump of this!

Just the android text with slight shimmer... nothing too exciting...
Had a look at the post... nothing new I'm afraid...
Without know to much about it, i might think you need to use dump_image to dump the address block of the spl.
The nand architecture address layout might already be known.

It's short for security off. A hboot with s-off will allow us to flash and boot custom images trough fastboot. Fastboot can be accessed by booting the phone while holding down the back key. Hboot is the second deepest partition on an Android phone, only beaten by the radio, radio bootloader is almost never used flashing from.
Things it can do for us... the most important command in fastboot is the boot command. It's not really helpful for end users, but developers can use it to boot their custom images before flashing to see if it works with the phone without risking anything. Since it's deeper than recovery it may give us write access to the system partition while normal booted (?). Hboot is also often called SPL (maybe not on desire, but at least on other devices), a hboot with security disabled is often called engineering's SPL.
My knowledge on this is mainly based on other devices. Some may be wrong or misleading. If anyone sees something wrong, please let me know.
I think its not the problem to extract the spl and patch it to s-off the problem is to flash it (it must be signed) or the SPL partition is r/o there some German users that ere very near to System r/w just wait they will post it!
This has nothing to do with hboot. His CID is most likely set to supercid, eg 11111111.
S-off allows non-signature rom flashing, full rw nand access.
@ts: could you come on irc? Irc.freenode.net , ny nick is IEF.

Okay, have now slept...
So, it seems this is indeed relevant for this sub-forum so I'll reply here rather than via pm.
Where I am:
have root
have new radio
have fastboot access
do not have adb access
can not flash any kernels here in XDA
I'm not a muppet and have adb working fine for my Nexus but for the life of me can not get it working on this Desire. HTC Sync does not recognise the phone as connected in any mode (Win7 & XP). I've used the Google and HTC drivers. I've used driver tools to remove the registry entries and reconnect phone, no joy. Although I do get "HTC Android Phone USB Disk".
I can't flash a kernel via a recovery .zip. In fact, even if I flash a rom from here on XDA the kernel fails to install. Bad block are reported on the boot partition which I realise is common. This does however mean that if I install a custom kernel to get a dump it will have to be VERY small.
I've had a few questions asking if I'm willing to dump it. Well, of course I am, that's why I posted...
I am trying to secure the device for the weekend EDIT: I have the phone for the weekend.
Ok, you can get into BL, flash roms, but no recovery and the phone doesnt boot, basicly a boot loop. Now if i RMA this phone and they go into bootloader and see the S-Off flag, will this more than likely void my warrenty or would they have any clue about this? If so, i guess i could flash a radio and pull the battery during the flash to ensure they cant read that lol.
Any help/info is appreciated, thanks
K, guess no one has a answer for wether or not HTC Service & Repair center will know what S-Off means if they put my phone in bootloader when i send them back a phone that wont boot so i cant reverse the unrevoked forever as far as i know, if im wrong, maybe someone can correct me. Would hate to have them not warrenty the phone due to being able to see the S-Off flag in bootloader.
I guess i could brick it bad enough they cant get into bootloader, just was hoping for some feedback so i didnt have to damage the phone more than it already is lol.

There is an S-ON tool on the Unrevoked Forever page. You can use that.
If you used Toast's method, all you have to do is get back to a SHIP bootloader. You can do that easily by running an RUU.

Your phone boots -> it is not bricked. Don't RMA it until you try to resolve the problem.
To answer your question.....yes if they figure out you put unapproved firmware on the phone they do have the right to void your warranty..yes its legal now but htc or sprint can choose to void..that being said like jerryparid mentioned if it boots its not bricked so try to fix, do some searching you might just find an answer that helps.....also I'd get your flame suit on because it might get hot in here.

He's right. If your phone boots at all, even if it's just into the bootloader then it is fixable.
There may be better ways of doing it but I would suggest you download the ENG HBOOT from toasts rooting part 2 thread, put it on the root of your sdcard and boot into your bootloader and just let it run. You'll have to set everything back up, including updating your recovery image but at this point there is no reason to have it replaced just yet.
Let us know how it goes, if you need any help bringing your phone back to life we're here for ya!

Ok let me try and clarify this...
I can get into bootloader, i can flash a rom, radio, hell even RUU from PC, all complete 100%, can not get into recovery, even if i flash a recovery image. The phone DOES NOT BOOT, starts at white HTC start up screen, stay on for about 4 seconds, reboots. You can clear storage, reload roms, radios, none of that gets the phone to boot or do anything other than reboot every 4 seconds.
So nothing i can think of will fix this, ive tried roms loaded via SD card, via RUU from PC when phones in bootloader, reflashing radios, reflashing recovery, nothing works. Phone continuesly reboots after first 4 seconds of being powered on. Never boots past HTC screen. I guess i should just try and brick it 100% so they cant get into boot loader and see the S-Off flag.
Damn phones.. lol...
** EDIT **
In short i guess basicly all im saying in the above, is ive tried everything already mentioned so far prior to my post and none of that did jack squat for me... lol.
How are you flashing roms from the bootloader?
And if you cant get into recovery how are you "clearing storage"?
No offense, I understand your frustration but I have to think you're not doing something right.. You'd be the first (not saying it's impossible) person to have a phone that gets into the bootloader but is not fixable..

Ok, yet again, a clarification, i cant get into a Custom Recovery, power+vol down, all that works fine, can flash rom (load the zip on the sd card, detects, lets you flash via zip) or via RUU in windows this method, now if you scroll down to "recovery" on the menu and click on it, it starts to load then phone reboots and back to square one. Sorry if my hboot/bootloader/recovery understandings are slightly off or differ from anyone elses.
** EDIT **
Ill see if i can make a youtube video with my crappy webcam here in a bit and upload it and maybe that will make it easier to understand whats going on. I had also taken it to a sprint repair center and they couldnt figure it out themselfs lol. So if i can fix it myself, im going to get it to HTC before i my luck runs out some how and they wont fix it lol. THanks for the help guys, i appreciate the replys and help so far!
i have done research and i basically nail down the problem. i did search around and found options to resolve this.
one of it is using RUU options, i tried several times, but due to slow booting, the operation fail.
i try to use OTA, to update to 2.50.707.4, however, when it reboot, it stuck in the HTC black screen instead of white.
My problem problem is same as the one is found:
" powering up takes about 30 minutes - 20 minutes just black screen(so I thought phone completely broken), then HTC logo with approx 10 mins vibro, approx 5 mins silent, boot to android and then - working fast as usual. USB connection not recognizes, reboot to bootloader takes eternity and locks up in menu(maybe its just makes a move onse an hour, I dont tested so long)
Any advises?"
my problem came when i did the "one click eng s-off" as i wanna flash a new radio. after i have done the "one click eng s-ff", my device reboot and i am having the above super slow boot. i assume the hboot screw up or conflict with what i have done.
please please advice...
edit: however, i am able to go into bootloader and recovery using adb command (which take ages). my recovery is 4ext or something like that. i have a backup of my previous downgrade version before i flash the smartdroid. what should i do?
my backup after downgrade version is 2.37.707.3. what else i need to do?
edit: SOLVED
i revert back my hboot and everything done, very risky to have eng s-off.
from what i read, you probably have a device shipped with 3.x, and downgrading hboot causes that super slow booting. its a known problem...
actually, the problem is not caused by downgrading. this is what is did : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403 "one click ENG S-OFF"
i just revert back hboot settings using the terminal and code provided from the thread, and problem gone. yet, i don't know what's go wrong. i think this problem is very rare as it is NOT due to downgrading process, as before i do the ENG S-OFF thing, i already downgrade the device and even flash smartdroid ROM in it with no issues.
actually i am helping my friend to root his phone. well, i own a samsung galaxy s2. i don't have to go through all the pain to root.
The issue happened when you flash the older Eng bootloader on a device that came with gingerbread.
Since the Eng bootloader is older(from froyo) it is as above hosted. Downgrading your bootloader. Its not as rare as might think. A lot of people have been in this spot

there might be a lot, but trying to search for this solution is as rare as i can describe. or should i say, i couldn't even search for it? i have to click one by one to search for it.
can you enlighten me with a link or steps to get eng s-off? coz all the search topic i found is actually quite technical, as i am sgs2 users, it is actually very hard to understand the term used in htc.
i might as well quit helping my friends with more rooting/hacking on htc as it is too risky and almost different from sgs2, and i don't wanna pay for any damages.

Their is no need to have Eng soff. It only causes issues for newer devices. Regualr soff is more than enough to flash a custom recovery, custom roms, radios, bootsplashes.
For example with engineering bootloader many people will use.the fastboot command to flash a radio(you guys might use modem). With soff to flash a radio it needs to be packed in a flashable BOOTLOADER zip file. We call them PD98IMG.zip. that's essentially the difference. Eng one can use a PC and fastboot to flash radios, while regular soff we pack it in a zip and flash in bootloader

I'm a bit confused with this diagnostic mode?
If i remember correctly i was able to go into it with vol up + power but then after a battery pull it would reboot just fine........
Maybe as Lesicnik mentioned not so long back the volume button might be stuck or faulty hence pressing the power button will equal vol up+power and start diag mode.

qualcomm diagnostic mode happens when you f**k up the phone so bad that it doesnt know what else to do, and reverts to what i think is the backup firmware on the nand chip? not 100% sure. it usually results in the phone powering on but not showing anything on screen. but vibrates a few times depending on what the issue is. sometimes you can "blindboot" which is where you take a stock rom.zip from a ruu and place it on the sdcard and boot to bootloader. then by using time (ie waiting) and logic (when to try push volume up to update the rom+reboot) you can sometimes manage to restore the phone. as far as i am aware the guys over at the evo 3d forum are very advanced in how this mode actually functions. the htc sensation unbricking project, which helps people fix their phones after an attempt to s-on kills it was made with the help of the evo 3d guys knowledge. also i think jupuntobear s-off puts the phone into download mode before you do the "wire trick" to drop write security. so it is possible to fix this issue but it is quite a hard nut to crack.

Have already taken phone apart and checked all connections as my first thought was that something may have worked itself loose after being dropped or something.
Vol up + power and the phone buzzes/vibrates 3 times.
Managed to do a blind factory reset - vol down + power wait for a bit, then vol down etc, etc. After about 3-4 minutes I was able to push the soft buttons which light and vibrate. I am unable to do anymore than this due to usb debugging being off as I need to use adb to make a gold card and run a ruu. Thanks anyway.

do you know what network the phone was locked too? you could hunt for the offical ruu from that network with the 1.01.0002 hboot and try to blind boot that to restore the phone. if you can tell me the network its on i will help you hunt for the ruu 3 vibes is better than 5 as far i know. ive heard of people recovering from 3 vibes.
also, if you have access to another wildfire you can use that to make the goldcard and then use that on the damaged phone then it should run any ruu that has an equal or higher hboot ^^

The phone is locked to Vodafone UK. I've just spoken to my sister whose phone it was (she's not the most technically clued up of people) and she can't remember whether she upgraded to froyo or not. She's now got a GS2 and hasn't even done the official OTA update to ICS (and Touchwizzed Jellybean is on the horizon). So I'm betting its still on Eclair, but I can't be 100% sure. I've looked on the Vodafone UK site and the latest Wildfire software version is '2.24.161.2', which they are only giving out through an OTA. I'm not having much luck googling it either.
I don't have any access to another Wildfire, so the only thing I can think of is if I can find someone else who would be so kind as to make and upload a goldcard for me :fingers-crossed: (highly unlikely), otherwise I think the phone may be taking a trip to environphone (they give £20 for a working wildfire). I'll spend another couple of hours on it, seeing what I can come up with, but it's looking bleak at the moment .

I'll spend another couple of hours on it, seeing what I can come up with, but it's looking bleak at the moment .

ok i have found a vodaphone rom that is from denmark, or germany it may be enough to do it. also, the goldcard is specific to the sdcard that is used to make it buddy :/ but! although i may not have a wildfire i do have the xtc clip so i can make a goldcard for the wildfire. so if you were willing to post a small micro-sdcard to me i could make it for you i am currently uploading the rom to mediafire now. will edit this with a link asap
EDIT: ok here is the rom.zip i was talking about, rename it to pc49img.zip and try do a cold boot up to fix it.

I need some help...
My friend gave me his HTC One M8... But the build he use on is not working and I cannot connect to Google Play store... So basically cannot do anything with the phone...
How could I either, try to install a new build... Or reset the phone to factory default...
I am use to follow clear steps ( Network Administrator here ) but I need help at least sending me in the proper direction.
Thanks
Is the phone s-off? Power phone off, and press power+volume down....then write what the bootloader says...

What is your provider ? Is it an AT&T, Tmobile, etc phone ?
---------- Post added at 01:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 AM ----------
I really could not tell you what to do with a device that is S-ON. When I first got my device the first thing I did was S-OFF, which makes it easier for me to fix my phone if something goes wrong, and also it's easier for me to fastboot flash different firmwares and change CID's/MID's. AFAIK, you can not do much with a phone that is S-ON other than gain root, but I could be wrong. There use to be two methods to gain S-OFF, but one method has been discontinued (firewater, or something like that is no longer used) and another method that cost $25, but I have forgotten the name of such method. With your phone currently not being operational, I have no idea if you would even be able to get your phone to a point to S-OFF. I do recall seeing that you said something about how you couldn't access Google, and not being able to do such pretty much makes the phone useless. Perhaps, if the phone turns on you could get onto a wifi connection and find that method ($25 S-off method), and you could gain S-Off from there. I just spent 10 minutes trying to find you some links, and maybe they will work for you....

I really need to know who your carrier is before I can assist you any further. Maybe Jball or redpoint will see this if they still even have M8's and direct you better than I can.

The phone is from Taiwan I think... It was ordered when we were living in Dubai...
I talked with a customer support of the US or UK (forgot) and he told me that the phone was from Taiwan...
Is there any codes or serial number that I can give you that would help you with that Answer?
That is beyond me, and I really have no idea how I could help...IT is in your best of interest to try and find redpoint83, and see if he will help you. He's got more knowledge on what to do with S-ON devices because I believe he's got a phone that hasnt been S-OFF. I am sorry that I am not much help, but I do not want to tell you one thing that will end up screwing your phone up.

By the way my phone works, but it's not able to communicate with Google Server (which is the only problem I know it's huge)... But other than that I can do everything I want with the phone... I'm actually using the Wifi sharing from that phone right now

In the thread that you linked me... They say I don't need to be S-OFF to do anything...
Further, s-off is not required to run an RUU (another common misconception, that I don't know where people get); unless you are trying to "break the rules" and either run an older RUU ("downgrade") or run another carrier's RUU.

You have a EU WWE device running a very old software version.
What you can do .. update to the latest with a RUU
RUU will wipe everything on your phone including internal storage so backup all your important files like photos, musics & etc to PC.
Download RUU 4.16.401.10 from here : http://androidruu.com/?developer=M8
Put your device on bootloader/fastboot mode then relock bootloader with command
fastboot oem lock
Right click RUU and select run as administrator and follow the RUU instructions
To run a RUU .. you need USB2.0 and latest HTC USB driver installed. If not sure, download HTC Sync Manager - http://www.htc.com/us/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
install it as it will install the latest HTC USB driver then uninstall the HTC Sync Manager but leave the driver.

Alright... HTC Sync Manager installed, now downloading the RUU you gave me:
RUU_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_HTC_Europe_4.16.401.10_Radio_1.25.214500021.06G_20.68.4196t.01_F_release_417003_signed.exe
This one right?
Next step will be to relock the bootloader...
And just run the .exe as an administrator...
I'll come back in a few hours when I finish downloader the RUU

Alright I downloaded the file...
Installed HTC Sync Manager
Uninstalled I but kept the HTC Driver Installer
I ran fastboot oem locked
After I did that the phone only boots in fastboot.
I tried to run RUU but it seem to be running in an infinite loop... Stuck at "Verifying Information on your Android Phone. Please wait..."
Well you are a superhero!!!! Thanks for helping
Took me a while to figure out everything... How to do all the commands... Install what I needed find the conflicts on my computer with ADB but finally got everything to work 100%
Thanks a WHOLE freakin' lot
Great :good:
Before you unlock it again in case you feel like modding it further, do that OTA checking first.
There should be OTA to 4 .16.401.13
Settings -- about -- software update.
