[T-Mobile version] WiFi Calling feature - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I don't own a GS3 but I am just curious if the WiFi Calling feature is a standalone app or if it is built into settings like on the One S. I saw one of the universal roms had the feature and just curious on the method to get it ported to a universal based rom.

it is built into the phone.

From my understanding, it is a T-mobile exclusive. It has been ported to other devices in the past. I love my wifi Calling..

Far as I know, T-Mo, Cincinnati Bell and Rogers Canada are the only N. American carriers that have wifi-calling. It's also now free if you sign up for the free version -- doesn't even come out of your minutes. But, you have to ask for it.

[Q] Anyone got it working on AT&T yet?

is it hspa+
21mbps?
same speeds as gs2 att version?
Yes. It is.
Anyone got it working on AT&T yet?
If so, where did you order it from?
There is nothing special about AT&T in this case. Just insert the SIM and input the APN settings manually and you should be good to go.
You shouldn't even need to do anything manually. Just pop the SIM and away you go.

Take comfort in the fact that you will get HSPA+ connectivity on both tmobile and at&t thanks to the pentaband radio. APN settings are really no big deal, especially if your on an android geek site such as this

[Q] T-mobile Wifi Calling workaround???

Please forgive my ignorance....Is not the wifi-calling issue a matter of having a kernel that supports it and having the apk that works with 2.3.5??? There are other 2.3.5 roms that work with T-Mobile's wifi-calling. I am in no way a developer nor do I understand much about this. I am simply offering what may or may not have already been thought of.
It won't be just an apk once tmo releases it for SGS2.

when you say other roms are you by any chance talking about a rom for the gs2 or are you talking about other android tmo phones.
What I mean is that FOR NOW T-Mobile's wifi-calling is a matter of having the app and a kernal that supports it. There are other 2.3.5 roms that run the wifi calling app so it seems to me that it wouldn't be that hard to get it running on this phone. Who knows how long it will be until T-Mobile get this sim card wifi-calling going.

It's actually a bit more than just the apk and kernel. You also need a RIL (radio int. layer) that supports the handoff. RIL is not open source, which is why you don't see oodles of TMO phones with wifi calling.
If it was just apk+kernel, wouldn't every phone on TMO have wifi calling?
WiFi calling will be baked into the OS rather than just being an apk.

That doesn't help, it hurts. Now T-mobile has a premium phone with wifi calling and the other variants that have the old version. There is no need for them to RUSH to get it to us, the amaze people have just become T-mobiles "beta" testers as the alpha with the devs and employees is done. Expect delays and pushbacks now on our phone. Like I said before, and please T-mobile prove me wrong, Samsung is HORRIBLE with updates and we will be lucky to see this before the new year.
Ugh even my gf's g2x has wifi calling.
Did everyone here get the sim card? All three of us (family) got new sim cards when we got our new phones back in Oct. Supposedly required for the wifi calling.
Is this wifi calling they're rolling out supposed to be like UMA on BB? Where it will hand off between wifi and cell? Had the BB a long time ago and UMA was pretty slick. Had the original Galaxy S with wifi calling previously and voice was sketchy, delayed. But it was great for receiving texts in our crappy location.

Tmobile note 2 on AT&T?

My wife and I are considering taking our tmobile phones over to AT&T. There both unlocked... Note 2 & sg3. Question I have is would I have to flash AT&T modems and roms to be able to fully utilize the new network? Just don't want to end up with bricks. AT&T already told me both devices unlocked will work fine on the network.
Wat I'm asking is if I can utilize the lte on the t-889 if I put it on AT&T? I found a bunch of threads with mixed responses.

It should work fine but the only problem is you wont have LTE

Why's that? AT&T says I will be able to use lte since my area has it. If not I probably won't do this. As I've said I've read mixed responses. Could I flash AT&T radios to utilize it?
It will give you weak service because att and t mobile run on different bands which is hardware related not software

I dunno about that as many said everything works but LTE. I have also read a few that says they have LTE enabled. That's what's confusing. I may go to AT&T tomorrow and have them test a sim before I decide to switch. I assume if I change to AT&T apn ill get better 4g speed at least. The limitation your speaking to its a locked radio for the t-889 that prevents LTE from being enabled currently.
I can't quickly tell, but if it has LTE support on band 17 (700MHz) then it will work. It's a T-Mobile phone so it has support on band 4 which AT&T only uses for a very small part of its LTE network.
Like you said the radio it comes with might be locked to not allow LTE. If you can flash an AT&T radio without issue then you'd be able to see if it works.
If I were to guess I'd say it would have the right band since it's basically the same phone that AT&T sells.
Does it at least get hspa+ and 3G? I can wait for lte.

The AT&T rep you spoke to definitely isnt informed on the hardware issue.
If you are switching over you should just sell those two phones you have and just buy new ones since its new activation Im sure you can get a good price on the phones

From what I understand its not hardware, it's because of a radio limitation currently. Lte isn't enabled yet on the t-889. That's why I asked if I could flash a AT&T radio. As long as I get 4g and 3G ill switch. The whole point was to save $$ on buying new devices.

[Q] Sprint LG G2 ... Why?

Why did Sprint take out the required software for the phone to be and to pick up LTE with the other carriers?
Because they don't want you to. Actually, there's only one phonr that has world LTE. The new oppo. Coincidentally, no US carrier sells it.

But you can use both T-Mobile and ATT and pick each others LTE and with the Verizon you can use Paranoid Android or T Mobile ROM and it'll pick the LTE ... So why not Sprint?
Sprint has a unique triband LTE now also. Though since it didn't ship with that active I don't know if that's responsible....

I think they didn't offer the same bans as the other variant phones.
You already answered the question yourself. With Verizon phone, you can use PA to get access to T-Mobile LTE. Which means one of two things. Either 1> You can use PA on Sprint to get access to T-Mobile LTE, or 2> It isn't a software issue, it's a hardware issue. I'll let you guess which it is.

Different hardware. Just like Verizon has the wireless charging ability. AT&T has an extra noise canceling mic. Sprint has the ability for tri-band LTE.

Good to know. I'm coming form samsung S8. I ended up buying the European version so I could root. Roger's locks the samsung down.

The only thing i'm disappointed with is that Fido did not provision it for video calling. I spoke to the tech department and was told Google will be rolling out an update to fix that and RCS because the phone is not reading what features the plan has.
Then I was told that video calling over the network is not capable because the phone comes preloaded with DUO which it does not. So I don't know what to believe but I would like for them to provision it for the video calling so I don't have to use my data.
I unlocked and rooted mine on Telus.
i am with bell Canada and have a google store unlocked pixel 3 xl. turns out bell retards only allow bell sold phones to work with WiFi calling. has someone found a way around this?
it also seems this functionality only works in Canada! has anyone tried using a vpn connection to Canada to be able to use this functionality?
reason why i am so interested is my work takes me where there is no cell coverage and having WiFi calling would be great!
thanks

I doubt it to be honest. You can try talking with tech support and see. But unless it's registered as sold in their database it might not be able to
Still doesn't make any sence, all they require is google pixel 3... No where does it say bell issued. It's carrier unlocked so why would it make any sence they give partial access to what is offered to the phones sold by bell... And yes I talked to them no one knows why and they rather loose a client than change it. . They are idiots!
