Hey guys,
in this tutorial I will show you how to upgrade and root your Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830. This method is the simplest way to do it.
Shall not be liable for any resulting damage to your phone! Everything you do at your own risk!
if you don't understand what is root, ROM, phone, flash, CMD etc. watch this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA
You will need (most files are available below this post):
- PC with Windows XP SP2 or later
- .Net Framework 2.0 or later (x86: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=19 x64: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=6523)
- Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830
- USB to Micro-USB cable
- ODIN 4.38 (here: http://www.multiupload.com/MUBOZPEOS3)
- OPS file (You must be registered to download: http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-s5830.htm)
C. Flashing the newest firmware:
1) Turn off your phone
2) Remove your SIM Card and SD Card
3) Extract previously downloaded firmware
4) Open ODIN 4.38 on your PC
5) Select from extracted archive: OPS-OPS, Boot-APBOOT, Phone-MODEM, PDA-CODE, CSC-CSC (leave EFS and One Package empty)
6) Connect your phone via USB into PC
7) When the screen is turned on hold POWER+VOLUME DOWN+HOME and wait until the phone enters the Download Mode
8) If ODIN detected and recognised your phone should light up the first square to the left side
9) Press "Start" button and wait, the process should take ~5 minutes
10) If all goes well your phone should reboot automatically
11) Square should change the color to blue and display "PASS" it means that flashing process was successful and we have the newest firmware
12) Disconnect your phone
13) Turn off your phone
14) Insert your SIM Card and SD Card again
15) Turn on your phone
16) Now you have the newest firmware!

DOWNGRADE BEFORE I COULD UPGRADE
I had to jump through a lot of hoops to help a friend upgrade their Samsung Continuum (on Verizon) to the new Froyo 2.2.2 (EC09). I had previously rooted the phone, which was still on DL17, and that was now crashing the official upgrade. So I thought I'd document what finally worked, for anyone else who's struggling with the same. Not guaranteeing my procedure will work, of course.
Mostly, I've summarized and rewritten the other instructions I found buried in and amongst the other discussion threads. After successfully restoring 'stock' the official Froyo upgrade finally worked.
PRE-REQUISITES
- locate the thread, [DEV] Continuum DataBase [EC09][DL17][EC03][EC07]
- download the following files:
Samsung i400 USB driver
"DL17 Factory stock rom+radio+kernel (odex) all in one odin flash"
(the resulting unzipped file is 'Continuum-Stock-DL17.tar.md5')
ODIN flash-tool
- download the updated "EC07" PIT file (the "DL17" PIT didn't work for me!)
Samsung_I500_VZW_PIT.PIT
PROCEDURE
Install the Samsung i400 USB drivers
Remove battery from phone (not sure if this is necessary but some threads advised it, and after several failed attempts I was desperately trying everything. In any case, it didn't interfere with a successful imaging!)
Connect the phone on USB
Hold VOL-DOWN plus PWR buttons until the built-in 'Flashing' screen appears (should be immediate)
Confirm that the computer detected the phone over USB
If not, re-run the Samsung USB Driver install and select 'Repair')
run ODIN
Confirm that there is a yellow 'COM' status showing in the top-left.
If not, ODIN isn't connected to the phone!
Click on 'PIT' button and select the 'Samsung_I500_VZW_PIT.PIT'
UNCHECK the checkbox option for 'Re-partition'
Click on 'PDA' button and select the 'Continuum-Stock-DL17.tar.md5' file
Click START
You should see a steady stream of status updates in the bottom-left window as well as a progress bar in the top-left (labeled "factoryfs")
The update should take about 10 minutes, then the phone will reboot. The reboot takes about 2 minutes and there is nothing shown on the phone!
NOTES
I originally tried using the (DL17) 'SCH-i4000-VZW-Continuum.pit' but it didn't work.
I also tried it both with and without the re-partition option; neither worked
At one point the phone stopped being recognized on USB. I simply re-ran the Samsung USB Driver install and selected 'Repair'. Then the phone was recognized again.

I found instructions to root the A390 here.
Step 1: Download and unzip the three attached files.
Step 2: To install the drivers for the computer, had to reboot the computer (Win8 64x) and disable driver signing. Then turn off the phone, connect to the computer, and run the InstallDriver.exe. After the driver installation is complete, disconnect the phone. The phone only makes the pre-loader interface available for a couple seconds when the USB cable is first plugged into the computer.
Step 3: Open the folder with the flash tool, and run Flash_tool.exe. Click the scatter-loading button and select "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt" from the recovery folder you downloaded. The recovery check box should automatically be populated with the TWRP.img file.
Step 4: Click download button and select "yes" to ignore the dialogue box. The flash software will now wait till it sees the MT6577 interface from the phone. With the phone off. Plug the USB cable into the phone and then into the computer. The flashing software will automatically load the recovery image to the phone. The flash-tool will show the power status bar red to yellow then wait for the message "OK" green is successful, then disconnect the phone, the TWRP recovery has been flashed. If the flash does not detect the phone when you plug it in, check your driver installation from step 2.
Step 5: Access recovery mode by pressing volume up + home + power key until the phone vibrates or it boots into recovery mode, then let go. This time open Team Win Recovery. You now have TW recovery and you can now root your device. (Make android backup first before rooting you phone)
Rooting Lenovo Ideaphone A390
After boot in recovery it will ask you to install superSU just drag/swipe to install. After you reboot the phone, you will have to have internet access to download the GUI. You can download the GUI from the play store, or download a zip which you can flash from recovery.
You are now rooted!
Good Luck

hello! Recently, I bought a Lenovo A390 and i think that it has a problem with the voice calls. During the voice call, the person who i´m talking doesn´t hear me no more and end the call. Just can not send the recovery file to my Lenovo A390 using SP Flashtool
Hello,
I have installed the correct drivers because I did manage to flash my ZTE v889s phone and send a recovery.file to it.
But with my Lenovo A390 I have tried over a week and nothing will work. After SP Flashtool finds the phone, it gives an error message after 4 seconds, saying:
BROM_ERROR: S_FT_NEED_DOWNLOAD_ALL_FAIL (4050)
I am sure this must be some kind of locking mechanics on the phone, and not a problem with the drivers, since they are working with other Android devices. Do you know what could be the problem?
The phone is suposed to be rooted, I am using SuperSU, that I installed using the USB cable on the device.
All your good advice is highly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi all. I got a rooted Lenovo A390 and I downloaded ROM Toolbox LITE. I used build.prop editor. I accidentally edited the vm growth heapsize from 16 to 10. then after rebooting the phone, everything didn't work anymore. The android phone, android core, google services, gapps, and everything else stopped working and the notification bar dissapeared and nothing in the phone will open. Does somebody know how to reverse it without using the apps in the phone since nothing would open?

the situation is :
usb debugging is off
stucks at boot
the recover is not functional (just an android logo and red exclamation point

Hi,
I was using my Grand Duos I9082 with great CWM11 4.4.2..
But due to change my phone with LG G2 nowadays, I'll give my phone to a friend but he needs dual sim option..
So, I need to flash original rom to on it.. I've downloaded these files:
Duos4.2.2stock-TUR-I9082XXUBMHC-20130906121521.zip (975.573.674 bytes)
and
I9082XXAMC7_I9082OJVAMC1_TUR.zip (827.176.269 bytes)...
I'm not sure which one is suitable for Turkish stock rom..
And how can I flash one of the file (if possible, tell me which one is better) via Odin?
I think I'll choose as PDA but I'm not sure another options required for Odin process..
If some expert tell me the whole process?
Thanks..

Here's the process
1.Turn off the device.
2. Boot in into Download Mode (to enter into download
mode you have to: press and keep holding the power,
volume down and home buttons in the same time).
3. While the device is into Download Mode, connect the
Samsung Galaxy Grand device to the PC via USB
cable.
4. Now, ensure that ODIN recognize the device, and the
“added” message is displayed, and ID:COM section is
yellow or blue. Note: if not, you will have to close the
ODIN app, disconnect the device by removing the
USB cable, change the USB port from the PC and
reinstall the USB Grand drivers once again. Then,
repeat all the steps from above.
5. Now, if everything is ok you can move to the next
step.
6. From ODIN app click on the “PDA” button.
7. Browse and pick the extracted firmware file from your pc
8. Next, from ODIN click on “START” button.
9. The installation process should begin immediately,
and you must wait until the firmware is being flashed.
10. When into ODIN app the “pass” message will be
displayed and the ID:COM section will turn green,
then the firmware is completely installed.
11. Now, you can disconnect the USB cable from PC.
12. Reboot the Galaxy Grand device.
Note: the first boot after the installation
process will take longer than usual, just be
patient.
If you still face some problem you can refer to guides in the general section.
There are some great guides there.

Hey !
Are you looking for a Step by Step guide ?
I am not sure if you will find one right here ! Btw you can use search button to search for it !
However,
You can do this:
1) Go to sammobile.com, click on "firmaware", search for your phone on the right search box.
2) Download the Official Firmware. When download finished, extrat it somewhere.
3) Download ODIN
4) Install Samsung KIES (it includes USB Drivers) if Kies is already reinstalled, then uninstalled, reboot and reinstall back.
5) Go to download Mode (When powered off: press Volume UP, Home and then Power button and finally Volume Up again)
6) Flash the firmware.
Note: You may change USB Cables, USB Ports (of your Computer) or even Computer if Odin won't detect your Phone !
Alternative Way: If the Phone is switching on, then Download This great app !
When installed, just open it and will installed a flash kernel automatically. After that, just click "Open Tar/MD5/ZIP" then look for your firmware and then click "Flash Firmware".
