So i'm new to flashing custom ROM's and such, but I do understand how to do so.
Basically, I've tried the custom CM7.1 and CM9 Alpha 4/5 ROM's to no extent have any worked.
They just get to the load screen, and the animation keeps playing over and over.
It does this for all of the ROM's that I have tried, so i must be missing something
I've got my phone rooted, with S-ON still. I used htcdev.com to unlock it and some form of rooting program to root it.
I can check when I get home seeing as i'm at School right now.
I'm hoping to get ICS working on it, so I can finally use this Bluetooth Keyboard.. Sigh
EDIT: I used HTC Supertool to root my Wildfire S

I have a HTC Desire A8181 that now updated to Gingerbread 2.3.3 and i want to Root it, is it possible?
It was rooted before, but was sent back to HTC under Warranty and was replaced with a completely stock phone.
Would i just use the normal unrevoked3 method?
As far as I know it's absolutely possible, however you should use revolutionary

I have a 2.3.3 original ROM too and i cant update too

Hey,
I tried as you suggested with revolutionary but when I Installed the new ROM from Sandvold beta 0.2.1 version the phone is not coming up.
I would highly appreciate if you can help me out on this.
Thanks in advance.

Have you performed a full wipe befor flashing the new rom?
If not try to perform a full wipe (wipe custom data + wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache) then flash the rom again. You can try this anyway if you want
After trying several different ROMs (mainly Sense 1.9 up to 3.5) and 3 different memory cards I am still having reliability problems with my Desire. The main problem is now and again I press the wake button and nothing. The power button doesnt even work I have to take the battery out and reset.
I also get a fair bit of lag, especially with incoming calls, even after having a play with Daemon Controller settings.
I can just about live with it but as I am likely to want to sell the phone soon i was wondering if anyone could recommend the most solid ROM. Preferably one that doesn't use an EXT3/4 partition as it could possibly be running apps from this that's causing the problem. I'm not bothered about Sense either.
I am currently running AceSMod007 v42, Recovery 4EXT v2.2.7 RC6, Stock HBoot.
The easier it is to install the better and even if its vanilla android I'm not bothered. I just don't want any comebacks when I sell it as the phone has caused me enough headaches.
ps Is a new battery likely to help or is that clutching at straws?
Put it back to stock like it used to be. That will eliminate or at least lessen the possibility of buyer comebacks caused by buggy custom roms. If the buyer wants it rooted, he/she should do it themselves.
How do you do that exactly?

Reflash the Froyo RUU which you can pick up at www.shippedroms.com, or the Gingerbread RUU which you can find at www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads.
Good luck!

I haven't done it personally but I believe you can flash it over as long as the phone is on stock hboot which I think it is. If you are s-off, you may need to flash a downgrader from alpharev. (Can anyone confirm this is required for stock hboot? I had the impression it's only for cm7r2 and oxygen hboots.)
You'll lose root and s-off (if you s-offed your device before). Make sure you chose the right RUU for your phone.

Only r2 hboots.
I think I might have to give it a try as my phone is very unreliable now as it keeps just switching off and won't reset unless I pull the battery. Happens about once a day.
Do I flash it through recovery as usual?
Also, if you want a solid rom, you can't get much more solid than Cyanogenmod. It's actually more stable than the stock rom for my part. Another option is MIUI, but the iPhone-like interface might be a bother.
Thanks, do you mean CyanogenMod-7 for Desire GSM V7.0.3 rom as the download link was broken when I checked?

Possibly not for another 6-8 weeks so I don't fancy returning to Stock and still having problems and having to mess about getting it S-Off and rooted again.
And to be fair if it wasn't randomly switching itself off I might consider hanging on to it longer as when it works properly its a pretty decent phone, I just cant live with the unreliablility.
So has anyone got a link for the CM Rom?

So,I tried installing CM10 following instructions from lloirs thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835285).
I flashed the boot.img in the first step because he says it is a better option.
After that I proceeded to flash the CM10 zip file, but the install failed.
After that my phone wouldn't boot, so I did a restore from CWM and now my phone is stuck on the HTC One screen for a good half an hour.
Please help. Really need the phone tomorrow.

I have two HTC Inc 2 phones. Can I copy a CWM backup folderfrom one to the other and then restore that copy? They are on two different Androids. Once is CyanogenMod 7.2 and the other is stock 2.3.4. I want to load the rooted CM 7.2 on the other phone.
It would probably cause more problems than it is worth. Why not just install cm7 on the other dinc2?

I have tried every root method I can find. None let me load CM 7.2 - always leaves me in a boot screen hang.
HTC Bootloader is Unlocked. S-ON. Very stubborn Inc 2. H-BOOT-0.98.0000 Android 2.3.4
I rooted the first one with Revolutionary. Root I paid for on the 2nd one disappeared.
Ready to give up and buy a different phone. Heck, I had my Fascinate on CM 10.x, Androis 4.2.2
Very frustrated.

To flash a rom with HTC unlock you need to read around the forums. You have to copy the boot.img out of the rom zip then flash it with fastboot. Look in the Viper Thread, I believe post 2 has more detailed instructions.
Yeah, if you're just unlocked, then the nandroid transfer wouldn't work anyway.

I have an R00x from Verizon (CDMA). I bought this phone from a co-worker just to use it for emulators.
Learned many things while rooting this Xperia Play. I cant unlock the bootloader with out paying so i have to stick to GB roms from what I understand.
Rooted by downgrading to 2.3.3 with Flashtool and then using SuperOneClick. Tried using X-parts to install CWM but it would never let me get into recovery so i used ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.6 Easy installation and succesfully installed CWM.
Copied over Bane of Speed, rebooted to recovery and wiped Data And Factory Reset.
The next step said to wipe /system so i did (I remembered that since my bootloader is locked the recovery is installed in the system. This worried me)
Flashed the zip
Wiped cache and davlik and booted
Couldnt get past the Sony Ericsson and i waited 10mins or so, pulled the battery and couldnt get into recovery because I think it got wiped in /system
Had a minor heart attack thinking that i bricked it.
Was able to reinstall 2.3.3 with Flashtool, and re rooted and reinstalled recovery.
Are there special install instructions for a locked bootloader? Do you see a step where i went wrong?
Suggest another rom for a locked CDMA R00x? I dont need a super fancy rom, just want to play emulators and play store games
Thanks for reading this novel, any help would be appreciated.

Not all GSM roms work. Moat will leave your homescreen blank and unusable. In addition the only fix is to install xdarkmarios cdma patch/fix. Sorry can't remember the name of it off hand. It essentially fixes the blank homescreen so you should be able to flash any GSM rom. That's what I used on my old Verizon xperia play before switching to the GSM model.
