Verizon replacement? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a question for you all. I have the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I bought it through them back in late December, early January. Now, we don't have a contract with them anymore, though my Nexus seems to be crapping out on me. I use it as a music and movie device, and an alarm clock. Is there anything that I can do to get a replacement? I believe that they cover phones for a year, right?

just call them and tell them what going on. worked for me many times

Doesn't hurt to stop in a store or call em'. It wouldn't shock me if they just direct you to samsung with not having service from vzw to device anymore.
good day.

My experience with verizon is:
You have a year warranty if they can verify when the phone was first activated by looking up your old account. It helps if you have an account with them still, but they will repair the phone if you explain that you're trying to reactivate it.

Called them. They want me to pay to replace it. They want me to pay more than the price of the phone... I'm going to go to a Verizon store and see if I can get it replaced there, if not, I'll just send it to Samsung.
Thanks guys.

How to exchange if not purchased from Verizon

So I bought my Galaxy Nexus LTE off Craigslist. Love this bad boy, however I am one of the lucky ones that loses Data/Voice at least 4 times per day. Have tried different radios, went back to stock, factory reset, and only 2 apps I have installed are tapatalk and no signal alert.
Talked to Samsung and I can send it in for them to correct the problem but I would be without a phone for 2 weeks. Is there anyway to get Verizon to exchange it?
Thanks.

Depends on the store/rep you get. It is still technically under the 1 year warranty, but if they want, they can say it's not the original account. I had a blackberry i ebayed a few years back, got it, exchanged it in store no problem. Took my incredible off my family plan (which my name was also on) and wanted a replacement due to the speaker issue and store rep and manager got into it with me for 30 minutes due to it being a "different account" the phone was originally on, even though the phone was ALWAYS on the same phone number. So i guess what i'm saying is try it, if it doesn't work, go to another VZ, or go back a few days later for a new rep. 1 year warranty is a 1 year warranty.
It depends on the rep you talk to. I bought mine from a retailer online, and the VZW rep had to get some supervisor approvals before he could exchange it.
The rep said that what they do is basically send everything goes to Samsung, but they are basically front you a device so you don't have to wait the too weeks. The warranty is not a VZW warranty it is a Samsung warranty so regardless of who you got it from it should be still under warranty. The issues is whether VZW will front you a device while your old one goes back to Samsung.
1. Call them up tell them your issue with the antenna,
2. Tell them you already did a factory reset and it still doesn't work.
3. If they ask you where did you purchase the phone, just say an authorized retailer. VZW will not heads or tails if that is the case because they do not track authorized retailer shipments.
4. Make sure you bring it back to stock if you had it rooted. I use WugFresh Tools to unroot and relock.
bro ive been there
And no Verizon won't replace it, let's face it big reds a **** head ( that why we have data caps now) all about them dollar signs. Trust me I was in the same spot as you when I purchaced my gnex at Verizon "premium retailer" (phone store thats not oficailly Verizon). Samsung is your only hope. Oh yeah check your setting and make sure your data limiter is switched off or your not past your limit
Like I said it depends on the Rep you talk to. This happened to my wife's phone back in March, and we bought the phone from Xpress-Phones.com. The guy new the phones just got released in December so there was no way possible the warranty had expired. He had to get a supervisor approval for the exchange, but there was no issues.
And if all else fails just unroot it, bring it back to stock, relock it and bring it to the VZW store.
If you've been with Verizon for a while try calling the Loyalty Hotline. I've always gotten whatever I ask for (within reason of course): 877-628-8922 Also, if they say no the first time just call back later, it can't hurt to ask.

AT&T Exchange Policy?

well my SIII that I received on the 21st is broken for good and won't power up.
I plan to exchange it for the same thing but my question is:
Does AT&T offer some sort of shipping me a new one then I return the broken one when it gets here? Or am I going to have to send mine out then wait for them to process and ship new one?
Appreciate the help.
i dont think any company do it without sending the phone back.
Why dont you take it to your local AT&T store and have them process an exchange?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
They used to do it that way at one point. Not sure what they do now as its been a while since I've done I it. I've been shipped a phone from AT&T then shipped mine back ac tear receiving new one. If you didn't ship yours back they charged your account for the price of the phone. However I did notice a return shipping label in the box of my gs3.

AT&T Store won't process an exchange because the phone was ordered online
AT&T generally sends you a new phone in the mail with a return mailer to send the old one back in. If the old one is never returned or if the damage / non working condition was caused by you then they will charge full price for the phone..
Call technical support and they will do the rest.. Now the question is do they have any in stock to mail?
If it won't boot because you a brick while root then cross your fingers that they don't notice or care..
Sorry getting used to the new Auto correct on this phone.

I just called and they are saying they only shipped first for iphones. ha. So I have to either send it out and wait. Or wait for them to come in stock at a store.
Which would be the better route?
Call again because that is BOGUS!
AT&T does not do iPhone exchanges.. Even when it's within the the 30-day exchange period they still direct you to Apple or an Apple store...
I think they fed you a line because they don't have any in stock...
I warrantied a Note and a Skyrocket and both times they sent the new phone to me 1st with a return mailer included for the bad device to be sent back in...

They did the same when I had to exchange a couple Captivates. They are feeding you BS. They send you out one and then you send yours back.

R u sure you charged the battery and see turning it on correctly. One push of the power button doesn't do it. You have yo hold it till you feel it vibrate.

When I got my GS2 it was defective and they sent out a new one to me first and then I shipped my GS2 back to them. And the person who said if you order online you can't exchange at a store is wrong. As long as you ordered it from the att website you can exchange it at any corporate store. When I got my GS2 exchanged through the mail it was after they told me I could exchange it in store but the 3 by me didn't have it in stock(they were already pushing the Skyrocket instead) . One store wanted to exchange it with a Skyrocket so I said no and just did it over the phone.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk
they're pissing me off. Should I call back and ask why they can't ship a new phone first? If not what would be the better move:
1. Take shipping slip they emailed me and send mine out.
2. Wait and exchange it when stores get stock.

Not true, I have exchanged several phones to AT&T stores that I have ordered online. Never had any issues.
Many years ago, I had to do an exchange due to a faulty camera button on my phone. (This was like 2005... pre-smartphone days. I'm pretty sure they were AT&T at the time, although they might have switched to Cingular... not sure)
Anyhoo, I called up AT&T, the rep said no problem. Processed the exchange.
About an hour later, I get a text message from the rep telling me that she accidentally processed it as a new sale instead of an exchange, and to call 611 to sort it all out. So I called 611, and the new rep told me that when the new phone arrives, just reject the shipment. It'll get sent back to AT&T, and I'll be credited, and everything will zero itself out.
So, FedEx shows up, I reject the delivery, and I think all is well.
I ended up having to battle that charge for 6 months. AT&T claims that the phone never made it back to their warehouse. Said the phone was signed for. Turns out when I did the FedEx research myself, the phone DID make it back to AT&T, and the signature they saw was the signature from the original delivery.
But the AT&T reps wouldn't hear anything of it. They kept insisting that I was trying to pull some scam over on them. Apparently, tracking numbers and dates don't mean anything to them.
After 6 months of battling, I finally got a supervisor to credit my account as an act of good faith because I had been such a loyal customer. He acted as if he was doing me this huge favor. They still refused to admit that they had done anything wrong.
The ONLY reason I am still with AT&T today is because at the time, the other carriers had crap service in my area, and AT&T had the best phones.
My current contract is up in 3 weeks. I'm debating getting the GS3 with AT&T, or Verizon. Remembering this episode makes me want to lean towards Verizon.
But at any rate, the moral of the story is that whenever you ship something back to AT&T, make sure to get the tracking number, and don't just trust that they'll process it properly. Follow through!
Call them again. They will ask you to do a few things to make sure you have tried everything to get it to turn on. Once you go through that whole process they will set up an exchange for you. They will ship you out a phone and you ship yours back once you receive it. You will ship yours back in the same box. I have done it half a dozen times over the last 2 years with no issues.
Good luck
Exchange

I suggest to always add the asurion insurance, you never know what can happen at any given moment. Also if it is a warranty issue, your local at&t store will exchange it for free, as long as it's not physical damage.

Store will exchange it for you if there's a issue within 30 days.
You will have to contact customer care after 30 days and they will have you go through a bunch of hoops on the phone to try to fix the issue your having. If they can't fix it on the phone they send you another one and then you have to send yours back within 7-10 days otherwise they will add the cost of the phone to your bill.
The only time I can think of the store swapping it out after 30 days would be if there was a shortage of the phone at corporate, but then they would put a note in your account to do the swap for you at the store, but this phone isn't really hard to get your hands on anymore at this point, so I don't get that.
^^ I concure .. An OFFICIAL AT&T store .. no one of these mom and pop stores.. will exchange your phone automatically right there in the store as long as your are within there 30 day period .. in which you are.
My first SGSIII died within 1 week of receiving it from AT&T .. I walked into my local AT&T store and exchanged it that same day (as long as they have stock) .. you should have no problems at all.

Verizon refused to give loaner phone said to keep using until new ones arrive.

I got a message from Samsung last night to power down my phone immediately and take it to my carrier's store and get a replacement S7 or S7Edge. If I choose to stay with the note they were to provide loaner phones until the new Notes arrive. Verizon told they are doing no such thing and pick another phone or keep using this one until the new ones arrived.
I think this may have been ordered by the CPSC. Here is the link : http://www.samsung.com/us/note7exch...=7731125&CID=eml-mb-cph-916-1199-emailversion
I wonder if Verizon will take responsibility if MY house burns down?
I talked to two techs on chat and both said I would be provided loaner phones.
I am not very happy right now and want to report them the CPSC.
Costco is not giving loaner phones.

Hey bro, sorry to hear about your misfortune. Sucks that everyone is getting yanked around with nobody from Verizon or Samsung being on the same page. It's irritating and super frustrating to waste your time going down there to be turned down for a loaner when that's what is strongly recommended. I was irritated by the lack of real detail and guidance from the start of all this. I contacted Tami Erwins office, the Executive VP of Verizon Wireless. They still had no real guidance for any of my questions (sad they can't even offer more assistance) but maybe if you have time and want to contact them, maybe they can provide you even more assistance then they did me or at least maybe it will force them to get their asses in gear if more people contact them.
http://www.verizon.com/about/our-company/executive-bios/tami-erwin
There is a contact link to submit your grief / suggestions. Hope this helps in some way. I'm sticking with my Note7 till they get the new batch in.
Thanks for that info. I will send them an email, but I am still gonna call and try to escalate the situation.
I don't think I should have to turn off my phone and sit there with idle cell service I am still paying for. Plus I need my phone.
They said I could exchange it for any phone in the store.... I wounder if they would give me the Droid Z with projector accessory? LOL

Yup! I got that too, I was contacted within one business day later (2 days ago now) and it was a member of Tami Erwin's team to "handle" my matter for her. Yet....nothing was handled, I wasn't offered any real answers for my 7 or so questions, I just kept being told that they aren't sure when new batch Note7's would be in. I asked questions like would there be a 'line' of sorts to get in for those who wanted a new Note7. I asked if the Note7 would be put on sale to the the public as well as for those who want to exchange or if first they will hold back all new Note7's specifically for the recall and exchange then once we are all taken care of, then put the Note7 on sale to the public. I asked a few more questions and none of them were really answered, it's been frustrating to not get any answers.
I am still on the phone with an agent and she spoke with her supervisor and she is telling me that I can go into the verizon store and exchange the phone for any phone and then when the new Note 7s come in I can do another exchange. She is telling me it won't affect my BOGO rebate..... I don't know if I trust that. I stand to lose $672.
Just got off phone with rep. She said that she noted my account to allow an exchange and then another exchange when new Note 7 comes out. She said I would have to do this at Costco though. She also said this would not affect my rebate. However the guy at Costco said this would kill my rebate. But she noted my account so I hope it sticks, getting on chat support with rebate center now.
What a cluster F for everyone involved.
Just got off phone with rebate center and he verified (through earlier meeting with his supervisor this morning) that the rebates will still be honored if you use a loaner phone temporarily.
So, off to convince Costco to loan me a phone. Which should I try out?
Ha! Costco said they got an email on how to handle loaner phones. Dial 611 on your verizon phone, tell them you have a Note 7 and need a loaner phone and they will overnight you one. Trying now, will report.
There is no loaner phone really. Verizon allows you to return your Note, cancels the dev contract if you have one, gets you into a new phone and promises to allow you to go back to the Note when available. With conditions.
You get a $25 store credit for accessories.
You get to trust Verizon for the flip back to Note7.

The Costco Kiosk is an independent company and doesn't follow Verizons policy. I could lose the BOGO if they switch to another phone.. Anyway, Costco had no clue what to do and they are gonna call me tomorrow. I have Verizons ear on twitter right now. DMing them at the moment.
I want Verizon to handle the whole thing and to accelerate my rebate so I don't have to worry about losing it.
If you all think that Samsung's notice is of any value to Verizon you are mistaken.
Samsung's notice states that you can bring your Note7 back to your reseller and get a J SERIES phone to use in the interim until the Note7's are back in store available.
Samsung's notice states you will receive a $25 in store or bill payment credit from your carrier.
Verizon's approach has been you can chose the phone of your liking.
They will deactivate the Note7 device contract and activate the new device contract so if you do not return for exchange it is your keeper. You have 14 days from the date of availability to return for your Note7.
You can use that phone until the Note7 arrive for replacement. It is actually your new phone if you do not return within the specified time.
You will get $25 to use for accessories in store only.
I asked about the BOGO. BOTH phones must be returned presently. What this means to you is based on how far along your ownership of the phones is.

The BOGO deal links the two phones together so yes, it would seem you can, unless you bought them on a 2 year service contract. That contract is separate from the devices, or device contract.
A cancellation fee on the service contract probably would be needed if you signed one. The network is not exploding, just the phones...
I bought the phones specifically because of the Bogo deal so I could use that money to pay off Sprint. Now no one wants to give me a loaner phone or exchange my phone till the Note 7 comes out. And no one if sure if I will still get the BOGO. If I could jump ship right now with no penalty I think I would.

Also, I had to get past the initial sales person and to the manager for a "loaner" to be made available to me. The salesperson claimed I should shut the phone off and activate another phone in the meantime. I claimed I had a Chat message with Verizon Online that offered a "loaner" and I had no other phone to use as I traded in my old one. Only then was the "loaner" made available to me.
And only at the very end of the process was the $25 store credit made available to me after I asked. The salesperson needed to confer with the manager on this as well.
So a note of caution to you all. Get to the manager and get assurances because some of the sales staff are way in the dark.... So far in the dark that my "salesperson" didn't even know the Note7 had an Edged screen.....LOL

Not sure how my last post quoted you but anyways...
It s best to wait for the Note7 to be available so there is a clear path to another Note7. You will have legal standing to fight them if they refuse the BOGO to you. Small claims court is free to you and you would certainly win.
See, you did not purchase a Device ID, you purchased a defective device so it will not matter if the Device ID is the same as long as you go with another Note7 replacement. This is pretty simple stuff really. I would not worry except while charging in the meantime of course.
Wow! I just called Verizon about my Note 7 that I purchased on line through my business account, and they really offered no loaner. They said that I was free to activate one of my older phones that I previously had on the line. When I said that was not possible, I was told that if I noticed no overheating on my Note 7, I could keep using it and just call them back if I ever did notice any overheating, and they would then let me swap it for another Galaxy phone. I am very surprised that they are not being more proactive on this.
I sat on hold for 35 minutes last night before I gave up and again 15 minutes just now. I can't even get a live person on their website chat, only the automated BS.

There should be a class action lawsuit on this whole fiasco.

This is crazy.
I bought a Note 7 with Verizon.
Today the phone updates and the result is on screen nags telling to to turn off the phone and not use it.
I call Verizon and they have no idea about what is going to happen about the swap for a new Note 7 as they have not been notified.
Seems to me that Samsung and Verizon have some serious liability here.
Am I wrong?
a lot of countries are already exchanging, I've had mine several days now, it's over a week since the first exchanges in the UK, the problem for you is the US government got involved and have held up the process leading to it taking way longer and everyone being left in limbo there.
No update with sprint.
Damm this would not happen under a Trump administration.

Verizon is having the replacements available tomorrow the 21st. You can exchange at a corporate store unless you bought from Costco, Best Buy etc.
AT&T has had replacements available as of yesterday (9/19).
Sounds like Verizon may be having delivery issues.

There will be. It'll take five years to wind through the courts, the lawyers representing the class will make millions, and the class will each get $20 off coupons for a Samsung accessory. Go for it.

I bought my att note7 at swappa.com, kinda like eBay, from a private seller. Online chat with samsung 3 times with different person, they all said return it to where you bought it. What's the fu*king different the seller return it and I return it myself and get a replacement?
I just called VZW as I control the companies wireless account and they told me to go to any verizon store and swap it out. There is one a few blocks from my job and I just went there during lunch and swapped out my note 7. Box has a new sticker on it verifying that its a "B" series and I have the green battery icon. All is good.

I worked at Verizon Wireless very recently. They just started exchanging them in store yesterday. You can call customer care and do it over the phone if you want, they just ship you a new one and give you a 25 dollar bill credit for the hassle. You dont even have to return the old one.
Now that I think about it I still have an employee account so over the phone may just be for us....we arent allowed to do anything in store.

You don't have to return your old faulty mobile? So you could sell it and the new owner have a problem then said new owner could take legal action against you AND Samsung? Very odd situation. Here, part of the recall is just that we HAVE, correctly so, to return our faulty mobile. The idea is to get them out of circulation.
Not only does this situation differ country by country it differs from store to store. :silly:
If Samsung cannot account for every mobile sold with that battery problem its only a matter of time before they really end up with a very serious problem., not to mention a customer selling his recalled phone on to a new owner. Crazy situation. You take care.

Am I wrong?

Can't get the phone into fastboot at all

Hello. trying to relock bootloader to return to bestbuy and for the life of me I cannot get the phone into fastboot with adb. I have USB Debugging on, the computer authorized through the phone, but fastboot devices doesn't do anything. I can't even flash a factory image. I can even get it to show up with adb devices but that's all I can do. I have all the drivers installed and am plugging into the back of the windows 10 computer and also tried two different cables. I'm not sure what to try next. I also cannot get it to go into fastboot with power and vol+. Phone works great otherwise. Nothing wrong with it.
You're typing adb reboot-bootloader? And that doesn't do anything?
Okay I'm an idiot. That was the problem. I was typing in fastboot devices. Still weird how the factory image wouldn't send it to bootloader.

Are you getting a replacement or simply returning? Curious because I think I might be taking mine back. To many issues. Part of me wants to get another one but if it comes with 7.1.1 and I can't unlock bootloader I'd return for good anyways and skip this phone.

I'm going to try to return because I don't like the locked bootloader and I also think the Pixel XL is too big. It's hard to use with one hand and I'm afraid I'm going to drop it. I'm on my Note 3 until my Pixel comes in from google, but I actually don't mind the Note 3 since the bootloader is now unlocked for Verizon. There's a lot of good roms out now. I don't know if I can step back to the Note 3 camera from the Pixel and 6P before....

Haven't returned anything to best but before what did you tell them? Did you have to show them the issue? Reason I ask is because I was in there black Friday and the 2 people in the mobile department were very rude to the point where I got in an argument with them and had to talk to the manager. I just wanna at least try getting a new one before returning for good. Was there a restocking fee or anything

Good luck! Keep me posted I'm gonna head there tomorrow. Not even sure if they have any in stock. I don't know if they are gonna make me show them the issues or tell me to call Google support first.. or if they will simply swap it out.

Hers was a new one that I ordered. But I've returned phones to them a bunch of times with no issues. I replaced my wife's old 6p twice at best buy. They just gave me a new one off the shelf both times.
They would not return it because it was outside of the 14 day return policy. Their return policy with the holiday season is ambiguous but I'm stuck with it now. Maybe I'll try to sell on swappa and get a Pixel or go back to my Note 3.

So I managed to return it today. I brought in the return policy from online which shows off contract phones are under the holiday return policy. There might be a $35 restocking fee though. I had someone more competent today than last night.

I actually got really lucky yesterday. I looked online and the only best buy that had them in stock was an hour and 10 minutes away from me. I called customer service to confirm. So then I wanted to talk to someone IN the actual store before driving there and confirm the return process and also make sure it was there. Figured out that if you call your local best buys number it's nearly impossible to get someone from that actual store and not customer service. I pretended to have a question for the Geek squad and once I got them on the line asked for the mobile department.
So I talked with them and confirmed they had it..told him what was happening with mine and he said it was no problem and he will set one aside for me. He mentioned something about "processing the return" so I wanted to clarify with him what was gonna happen. Best buys $10 a month deal is different than Verizon's. I was worried that if he processed my return and did the purchase from scratch that it might somehow mess this loop hole up and I'd be stuck with Verizon's 2 year bill credits. Thankfully this guy was familiar with EXACTLY what I was talking about. He said they don't know how it is different than Verizon's deal but said he is totally aware of it. So he said he would talk with someone about the exchange process and call me back. Over an hour later I had to call them again. He told me I had two options and he said the first option is something they aren't really supposed to do. He told me they would literally just swap them out and not process any kind of return/exchange with Verizon. He said the only downside to this would be if I ever wanted to trade the phone into Verizon I wouldn't be able to because the one on my DPP would be the original IMEI not the replacements' IMEI. Second option was to process a return and set it all up from scratch. He said we would then have to call Verizon to fix the pricing and get me the $10 deal and that it most likely would be with Verizon's bill credits though.
Naturally I jumped on the first option and told him I'd be right there. Then I asked if I HAD to activate the replacement there and he said "yea that's normally how they have to do it". I then explaied to him how I can't unlock the bootloader if it installs the software update during setup so I need to take the SIM out and skip the setup so I could unlock with my computer at home. Again he knew exactly what I was taking about and said he would ask the other guy again and call me back. 10 minutes later he called back and said "yea we can do that it won't be a problem" so I told him I'd head up there right then.
So I get there and it was as simple as handing him my box (they didn't even look it in).. he did some kind of magic on his computer.. as he was doing this I opened the new one..took out the SIM and skipped through the setup..enabled developer options and turned off automatic updates.. then he gave me a receipt and that was it!
What started out as a confusing nightmare because no stores had them in stock so I was worried about a replacement shipping with the new software.. ended up working out easier and better than I could have imagined.
I got so LUCKY that I dealt with the person I did at that Best Buy becasue the people at my best buy would have been clueless and not done anything like this for me.
Phone is already unlocked and updated now
