Rooting Samsung SCB-LC11 Verizon Hotspot - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hey! My boyfriend has a pawn shop and bought a Verizon Jetpack from someone. They said it was "chipped" so it would work without having a Verizon plan. So far he has had this thing for a few months and its still working. However, it has a regular SIM card in it.
What I am ultimately wondering is, he also bought a Samsung SCH-LC11 Verizon Hotspot thinking I'd be able to do the same thing for him. I've rooted my Nook tablet 2 different ways, a few phones etc. So he thought I'd be able to google some magic on this hotspot stuff.
I have searched terms such as rooting, unlocking, chipping, jailbreaking, etc for both devices and can't find a thing. Is someone pulling his leg or is there a way to use a hotspot without a plan? If there is a way could someone tell me how to do so for the Samsung Hotspot???
Thanks guys!!!!!

Questions: Unlock Verizon Xv6900 to Sprint? will GPS work? 3G?

Hello all,
i have a Verizon xv6900 and i was wondering if i could unlock it and use it on the Sprint network. if so how do i do this? i have unlocked a few other phones and i am very proficient with hacking windows mobile phones and such so if i had a guide of some sort i am positive i could do it.
second question is weather i would still be able to use the GPS. i have hacked my GPS to work with Verizon and i love it, i don't want to lose it if i go to Sprint. also does sprint offer 3G speeds? i get excellent speeds with Verizon here in Utah.

Yes, 3G is offered through Sprint its their major advertising push to be honest
If your phone is compatible with Sprint (which it is) you will have GPS and aGPS moving over to Sprint

So wait, If I bought a sprint Touch could I unlock it and Activate it on verizon? Is it possible to do the same with a sprint Touch Pro? I was told it wouldn't work because of the ESNs. I'm just wondering because the Sprint (CDMA) touch pro has more ram than the verizon verzion!!!
Sounds great! i figured i could do it. and no, i dont really watch TV. my mind gets bored with it rather quickly, to be honest i havent had a TV for about 5 years until just about 2 weeks ago i got a new 46" sony lcd for under $100, so now i may start watching a bit, who knows.
anyways, if you could help me figure out what needs to be done to get it activated with sprint that would be great.

that is correct: NO it won't work... you cannot activate a Sprint Touch on Verizon or vice-versa, because they won't be in each other's ESN database.
seems hardly worth it to contemplate trying to get it to work... all you really have to do is to sell the Sprint phone and buy a Verizon one... minimal lossage and big savings in time and frustration... (more ram not withstanding)
you *could* probably activate a Sprint Touch on PagePlus, a Verizon MVNO... see hofo for details...

[Q] Where do I even begin...

So my gf has a Galaxy SIII from sprint, w no sim card. I have an at&t contract with two lines. I called AT&T and they replaced the IMEI for my 2nd line, to the IMEI of her SIII. Well obviously it's not that easy bc the **** don't work lol. I don't even know where to start, and don't bother telling me to "read the forums" bc I did and it's all gibberish to me anyway. Long story short I don't have any sim cards, never did. Not for my two htc one mini's through AT&T nor her SIII. Her SIII is running 4.1.2, which if i read some of the other posts right, it means it's impossible to transfer her phone to AT&T? I guess for starters is it even possible to bring a 4.1.2 SIII onto AT&T service? AT&T already changed the IMEI to her SIII, for whatever that's worth....
And on a side note, the SIII is completely stock from the manufacturer, aside from having the most current updates (Firmware etc). And I would like to emphasize that I have no access to any kind of "sim" card, nor will I ever. If there is a way to connect a Sprint SIII to the AT&T network, the method absolutely can not involve sim cards, and must be able to be done on a completely updated S3.
The last time I ever messed with the internals of a phone was back when the LG Ally was first released, and I did a one touch root, so I could use Verizons data through a WiFi hotspot, and not have to pay for a hotspot data package. So other than that I have not one pinch of knowledge or experience in this, as I've never had the need for it until now. I can follow instructions, but every single thread I've found on this site is so mind numbingly vague, it may as well read "insurt teh usb, do teh magix stuff, unplugs teh usb, ta-da!" And I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just trying to put into perspective how absolutely lost i am.
I tried the *# code in the dialer, and nothing. (probably bc i have NO sim cards)
I called AT&T and had them change the IMEI on my second line to the Sprint SIII
I read countless novel length threads on here, all of them seemingly useless.
I went to the sprint store to have them unlock it, they refused, naturally.
There is not an AT&T retail location for MANY miles, not like they'd be helpful anyway I assume...
I'm just stuck, all these threads do not apply to me, but I'm sure there's a way... There has to be.
To be able to connect the phone to the AT&T network you have to have a SIM card, without SIM you will never get to connect to the AT&T network. Your best bet would be to check here or craigslist to see if someone might be willing to exchange phones. or to purchase or upgrade to a phone with a SIM card slot, no sim card slot no service with AT&T.
I'm not a dev but I can tell you this.
1. Please do not insult one of the best source for Android development because you refuse to read the stickies and tutorials.
2. I'm sorry but a CDMA only Sprint Galaxy S3 does not have the necessary hardware to use AT&T's network. Though you state there must be a way you are unfortunately wrong in this case.
3. Prepare to get flamed and possibly have this thread closed.
4. You should try a Sprint MVNO or other CDMA based phone company like Boost, Virgin Mobile, etc.
5. I feel sorry if by girlfriend's phone you mean you bought a hot phone off someone.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
We're not here to flame, he has a legitimate question and simply needs an answer. Bit1 is right it's a CDMA phone and won't work with AT&T. It's very unfortunate but you won't get it to work. Your best bet now is to resell it as a CDMA phone and purchase the AT&T version.
Well, I guess that solves that, lol. Yeah I did some foot work around the city, talked to several retailers and a couple techs, learned a lot more a lot quicker. So yeah it basically comes down to the radio being in a completely different band/freq wtfe than AT&T uses. (The whole CDMA and the other deal). I mean the IMEI isn't locked, the phone isn't "hot". She's behind $250 on her sprint bill and now has a $300 paperweight, so I was trying to add the phone to my AT&T plan. Anywho, thanks for clearing this up. As far as trying to sell the thing, I saw a kiosk with a used S3 for $280? Is there even a market for S3's? They don't exactly seem like the "in" thing anymore if you catch my drift. My next question would be, if I sold the phone to someone who wanted to use it on the Sprint network, can they use it? More specifically I know they lock IMEI's if they're reported stolen/lost, but would they do it for not making a bill payment? (She hasn't used the thing/had service in over a month now...) My goal really is to figure out what to do with the thing. Best Buy offered $150 for an S3, but I don't know if the IMEI is good or not : / The screen is cracked so i was going to get a $15 one off EBay, fix it, and sell it. My concern is on selling the thing, should I make the $15 investment and chance not being able to sell the thing? I'm broke as all get out, so I'd rather have the 3 packs of cig's than a wasted investment lol.
Anybody need an SIII?
LMAO

[Q] Questions about unlocking HTC One M8, using unlimited data for mobile hotspot

Hello folks, Ive lurked here for a while and gotten great info and am hoping to get some help here. I apologize if some of what Im asking is obvious to you folks but it isnt to me so here I am. I tried HoFo but got no help there.
Ive been using factory unlocked Sony Xperias for a while (Z, ZL, Z Ultra)so never had this issue before, but I have an HTC One M8 coming and unfortunately its ATT branded, though I bought it from a private seller and not ATT themselves. Im also grandfathered into unlimited data for many years now, and with my Sonys can turn on mobile hotspot anytime and use my data with ATT none the wiser. Now Im assuming since I was dumb enough to buy an ATT phone, I will be told to contact ATT once I pop in my SIM and try to turn on mobile hotspot, is this correct? If so, will unlocking the phone resolve this issue? As of now ATT has no idea Ive bought this phone, nor did they ever even recognize my Sonys because they never sold them, but since this is an ATT M8, Im assuming theyll know immediately what Im using, identify my plan and lock me out. Im hoping I can get around that.
I also imagine since its an ATT phone it will have all sorts of abilities locked out and a lot of fluff added in. How can I get the features unlocked? Is there anyway to buy a carrier branded phone and get it to be similar to one that was bought factory unlocked from the beginning and never branded?
Any help and advice would be appreciated and TIA
Ok, if I asked too much stuff there that was obvious to you but not me, can someone just please tell me if unlocking the bootloader will at least unlock the mobile hotspot function for me so I can turn it on?
Well, just unlocked, rooted, s-off and twrpd my first phone. What a b*tch, lol! But I had to learn one of these days. Sadly, still cant get the native or any other mobile hotspot app to work though. I saw a thread about a VZW M8 hack but still cant seem to find anything for this ATT thing. No one even willing to talk to me?

You can try wiFi Tether Router. Its in the play market but you have to pay $2.50 for it. Has worked for me. I don't think this app can be dectected by the carriers like ATT because it does't use the native hotspot of the phone.
Youll have to flash a custom rom that has this feature [email protected] and is debloated, xarrier build will block it and tell you to conract them.....
This is not going to help you at all, but I pay the extra $30 per month. I use up to 50GB of data each month tethering, and I want to make sure the my carrier doesn't block me.
So now that I've done my service by telling you to do the right thing, you use to be able to go in using SQLLite and turn off the checker. For VZW it was around line 149 - 160. Can't remember. I would think you could do that for AT&T. Maybe someone knows? Or maybe AT&T doesn't work like that any more, of maybe KK doesn't work like that any more.

Verizon G4 on Sprint network?

My wife won a new Verizon LG G4 by dropping her name in a box at a radio station promo. Unfortunately, we are on a Sprint family plan. I've unlocked, rooted and ran custom roms on my last several phones, so I'm somewhat familiar with the process, but I've never tried to move a phone to a different network. I've compared the bands/frequencies used by the 2 networks, and it seems to be compatible as far as the radio goes.
From reading this forum, it looks like we are waiting for LG to make it possible to unlock the bootloader? Then what? Just rooting, adding a recovery and loading a Sprint based ROM using a Sprint SIM card? Or will the Verizon LG G4 not ever work correctly on the Sprint network? Sorry if that's too basic of a question. Just trying to decide if I should sell/trade the Verizon phone and purchase a different phone for Sprint. I don't mind waiting a couple of months for developers to sort things out, but really just need confirmation that I'll eventually be able to use it on the Sprint network, assuming I don't brick it in the process. :cyclops:
Thanks.

They will not add each other's device IMEI into their Databases.

Get the unlock code from Verizon, then call sprint or into a corp store and have fun added to sprint. They do Verizon iphones allll the time and do other devices as well.

Purchasing an Unlock Code 3rd Party

Has anyone had success doing this? I purchased my Note4 that I've had for a Month now through an App called "Offer up". The seller stated the device was ATT Unlocked. I do not use ATT I use Cricket which is owned by ATT and the phone worked with my Sim so I assumed all was good. Well I realized today when I first tried the Mobile HotStop that the phone was in fact not locked as it did not work. So I went to ATT/device unlock and sent them a request and they denied stating that "I have not complete my Contract Agreement". FIGURES. Can anyone recommend a 3rd Party that they have had success with before. I appreciate responses in Advanced. Thanks.
Okay so I got the code and unlocked the phone successfully but still hot spot will not work
Running Lollipop? Cricket disables hot spot functionality regardless if phone is unlocked. Unless you've got a spare phone running KitKat your chances of tethering on Cricket are limited to nonexistent, and for that matter most other carriers for boot locked phones.
I'm on AT&T. Tethering is included with service for anyone on a family share plan. The tethering app that is pre-installed on the phone works well with this.
I realize people are using this phone with other carriers (some that obviously won't allow tethering) but on all the threads I've seen about tethering, I've never seen anyone mention this about AT&T.

Unfortunately yes running lollipop. And yes I did find out that Cricket is the reason why the hotspot feazure is not working. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my 4.4.4 rooted att galaxy s5 for this note 4... oh well it's done now.
I've tried 3rd party app pdanet/foxfi for Bluetooth teathering and it does work but it is veryour limited. Only the Brower gets to access the wifi not applications. Looked it up and it stated on the pdanet site that in fact some apps will not work with Bluetooth teathering.
Can anyone Recommended another 3rd party that might work for wifi hotspot?
If not another carrier?
Preferably something cost efficient.
I pay 85 a month for two phones. Unl. Talk/text/data. 10gigs hi speed data on my line and 2.5 on my girls as she doesn't use alot. No taxes. 85 flat. Just for reference
So I called Cricket wireless. They told me an add on for hotspot is $10 a month and will share from the 10gigs I have on my plan for my number. Not bad. They went to try and activate it and said that they could not because I brought my own device and the plan is only able to be added if you have a cricket smartphone (my note 4 is att) or if you have an iPhone byod.
My question now is do you guys think if I buy a cricket phone or an iPhone and give them the imei, have themade add the feature to my account and then swap the sim card and throw it in my note 4 without registering the note 4 on my account if that will work?
Just to help anyone else out that may be wanting hotspot on their byod cricket device. I found a workaround. If you purchase a phone or have a good friend that will let you use their imei of their !!hotspot compatible!! !!CRICKET!! phone you are good. Today I had a friend go with me to the store location and we switched imei's on our acccount. So I technically have her LG stylo imei linked to my phone number in the cricket system. And she has my old ATT S5 byod imei on her account. This allowed the Rep to activate the Mobile Hotspot on my Account. I simply left my Simcard in my phone while the change took place. I'm not sure if removing it or changing phones will register a change in their system or not. I am paying the $10 a month to cricket to enable mobile hotspot. But completely worth the trade off when my only other options were to pay more/ get less with a carrier that supports/ doesn't block hotspot or sell my Blackberry and Note4 and find Different Versions. My next phone will not be an ATT phone this is for sure.
unlock code
You say you got your code. Where did you get it from? I'm having the same AT&T issue"did fulfill my contract......"
You can try UnlockRadar.com, I'm using them regularly as I own a phone repair shop. I'm satisfied with their services. https://www.unlockradar.com
