So I upgraded to ICS last night...
This morning when I go to plug my phone into my MHL adapter...
Sound stops coming out of the phone.
No audio/video get routed to the TV.
I am disappoint
Anyone have a fix / run into this?
I'm using the Menotek adapter, does ICS only work with the Samsung adapter?
Did you OTA or oneclick preservedata? Or did you no data.
Grabbed the manual OTA zip in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768479
and then flashed it using stock recovery.
So do I have to wipe my phone to get it working then?
That would really suck.
Is there an app I can just clear data on?
Does anyone else have MHL working on stock ICS?
I don't personally use the MHL adapter, but I remember folks mentioning it wasn't working on the early betas.
it works.. ive used in since early builds on all stock roms and custom roms.. just wont work on a aosp rom yet.. i have a generic brand for like 5$ off amazon.. try another cable/adapter..

I don't have another adapter...
But I've used two different HDMI cables, power cables, power adapters, and TV's
The first time I connect it, it beeps and transfers audio (shuts down local phone audio, TV still gets no audio/video... but does get blank signal)
If I disconnect it and plug it in again it reboots the phone
It was working fine yesterday on GB :/
maybe a bad adapter or something.. im on ff18 right now and mine works.. just wierd if it reboots your phone.. do you have any other device to test it with? if it works with another device its your phone.. if it doesnt its your adapter

Well, the EDID read that failed is where an HDMI devices queries the display device to find out its capabilities. That seems to have failed so it switched to DVI mode, which is an older standard which supports video but not audio and also doesn't do the encrypted copy protected keys (which I don't know if E4GT using)
Anyway, basically the auto negotiate failed and it dropped into an older compatibility mode, which ironically may not be "compatible" with your HDMI port.
That's just based on reading the log messages. It might not actually reflect reality if some of those log messages are red herrings.
Well that's strange...
I'm not rooted atm, but if I rooted could I wipe the data just related to the tv out apk? I would like to avoid a data wipe if possible...
I will also try using my other TV's AnyNet+ port as well and see if that makes a difference. (I'll get the logs from that too if they differ)
Although with other people having success with ICS and MHL, I may end up having to ODIN and data wipe in order to get it working

I think the quickest way is to root and install CWM, make a nandroid backup of your current setup, then do the factory reset and see if it helps, if not, then you can CWM/nandroid restore back to your current setup and pickup where you left off knowing that factory reset didn't help. If it did help you can investigate further.
If you just want to remove the data for TVOut, look for something appropriately names in settings->applications (or whereever it is now in the menu system) and close the app, then clear data and clear cache, then reboot.
ODIN'd FF18 rooted nodata... Exact same log files... I'd rather not wipe the phone :/
I cleared data on all of the Samsung apps on my phone and that didn't help either.
I guess the adapter just doesn't like ICS on my phone.
I'm going to see if I can pick up a Samsung branded one locally and see if that works. Maybe they will let me test it out in-store.
U get that mhl thing going? I'm on my 3rd ff18 and all 3 work.super galaxy 1.5 touched by a s3 and blazer and I'm using a cheapo Chinese mhl. Now if i could just get flippin otg lol

Hi,
I'm trying to use a USB Keyboard with my Archos 80 G9.
First of all, I did the Softwareupdate ( 3.2.80 ) but no Keyboard or other USB Device (USB Stick, Mouse) worked. I'm Using the USB Port at the back ( the one for 3G Stick ).
So I flased the "old" Firmware (3.2.79). After this USB Sticks work fine. But still no Support for the Keyboard.
Did I did something wrong (3G is on)
Does it work with you guys? If yes what Firmware do you use?
Thanks a lot and best regards
Dagsta
Try using USB hub, it's possible that tablet doesn't use hardware that declares more power usage than USB port can give (all USB devices declare max current draw during the handshake)
tapatalked from Desire
the 3g usb working with dongle 3G and usn key only
You need an Micro-USB-B-OTG-Adapter.
Try www.adaptare-shop.de and search for OTG (or amazon etc.)

Rear USB working with mac keyboard
Ok, so what gives? The rear usb works with a mac keyboard......I can even make a cheap leather cover/usb keyboard (ebay special) work IF I plug it into the Apple keyboard. Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm guessing there is something going on with the grounding on the Apple keyboard.
Have you tried turning the 3G stick on under Settings?
I believe that power to the back USB port is off until the 3G stick is turned on.
Don.
Hi,
In january/february, i bought a USB keyboard with an USB adaptater to use it with my tablet.
I tried to plug it in the 3G's usb port, it did'nt worked, and because last week I broken it, and I updated my tab to ICS, I tried to plug my keyboard in the 3G port, and it worked !
Maybe it's because of ICS ?
Also, my keyboard has also an usb hub, it works too !
Mine seemed to work from the the start with Rom version: 3.2.69 and that's on 2 different G9 101, however others result have varied and it seems a bit hit and miss to say exactly what's going on.
I know there are 2 different versions of the 10" G9 - A101S and A101H , I've not dug too deep into it and I'm not 100% and what the differences are.
I think ICS generally improved the Usb Host support/integration which is always welcome.
Now I just need a large bag to transfer all these extra devices for my "portable tablet".
Mine won't see USB drives/camera cards formatted to FAT32. No big deal.
Actually, it did connect with my phone and its 16GB microSD card, so I'm happily mistaken.
From the ICS "firmware" update change log:
Archos 80/101 G9
Firmware changes
Version 4.0.4 - March 8th, 2012
Initial Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 firmware release
MediaCenter Video: support for MKV3D on TV with automatic switch to best 3D mode
MediaCenter Video: allow to disable system notifications in video player
MediaCenter Video: collection of VOB files from DVD are now gathered into a single movie item
MediaCenter Music: integrate Music control panel in Lock Screen
MediaCenter info dialog: allow to edit the name used for performing the Movie and TVShow online search
File Manager: display a notification when file copy continues in background
File Manager: improved drag and drop support
File Manager: new option to prevent indexing of some storage/sdcard folders by multimedia library
Applications: more robust video conferencing support (Google talk, Skype etc.)
USB file transfer: a samba server is now activated on the tablet when using USB network tethering for easier file transfer on non Windows based hosts [Samba for "non Windows"??? Something bass-ackwards about that ...]
Archos widgets: new USB network tether widget [Anyone know if this means it will tether off a phone this way ala older Archos models like the 5 or 43 , or is this meant to "share" its internet connection (however it would obtain it, even if not "3G-enabled" - which seems useless)]
External Keyboard: french layout has been expanded to handle AtlGr keys for special symbols
Accessories: Xbox gamepad support
Maybe I shoulda hung on to the new 80 I bought a week ago, and returned after trying it out for a few days. The inability to get the back/3G USB port and MTP tools to work was a big factor in my return decision (along with no network tether option as the 5 and 43 had, and the reality check on the initial Staples web page claiming 1GB RAM - hope springs eternal...)
FWIW,
R
@rokkywoof I think that it's for the micro usb port, because this oen is meant to be an OTG micro usb port, and the original usb port is just for the 3G, but maybe they failed and applied the stuff to the 3G's port?
@Telyx/trevd wow that's strange !
I saw that the A80S (A101S) are the archos with flash memory (8 or 16gb), and the A80H/A101H are the archos with the Hard drive (H for Hard drive )

Is this true? This is the main reason why I was planning on getting this tablet this week because it is (or so I thought) that would have been able to transfer raw files from my CF cards to the internal hd, and backed up on an external HD. I shoot about 300gig a week while on the road.

It works fine... just have to turn on the "3G Stick" port, then wait a moment before plugging the camera, phone, thumb drive, card reader, etc. in. One camera connects like a thumb drive (mount the "drive" manually and open the folder in the file explorer), the other launches the Gallery app to allow me to import pictures.

Hi @ll,
I also tried to get USB devices to work, no problem with USB-Sticks, but USB-HDD's (selfpowered) seem not to Work (neither on Stock image nor on Cyanogenmod). The HDD starts turning but Android doesn't mount it. Can someone give me some pointers?
My Specs:
Archos G9 80 Turbo HDD with an USB-HDD (USB 3.0 (should be backwards compatible)) by Toshiba
Thanks
I would bet the tablet is not able to supply enough power to actually start the USB HD up.
Remember that usb port was designed to be used with Archos' 3G cell stick and really wasn't meant to be hooked up to other things.
If the port is enabled, there is allways power for the hdd, also for a stick a mouse. But some keybords may not work (I don't figure it out).
The app USB OTG Helper will help to mount the hdd/stick.
I used a friends powered usb hub (dlink dub-h7) and was able to use both my keyboard and mouse with my tablet unfortunately my usb thumb drives dont work when attached to the usb hub however they do work when attached to the hub I didnt have my powered usb hard drive with me to test

Hi, I just bought a MHL cable but it doesn't work, let me explain:
after connecting everything needed (phone to the adapter, HDMI from TV to adapter, charger to adapter) the TV shows an error that is missing signal.
When I connect the phone, it turns the screen horizontal, but nothing happens on the TV.
If it could help, I mount the last version of Resurrection Remix Rom...
Maybe, should I do something from the phone to start the video/audio transmission?
Any ideas? Thank you in advance

I don't know if this is related to the device or to the android version.

A year later and still no different.
I used to have this working on my Note 3 using Xnote, Am sure it would of been on JB
Now on KK and does not work, the Dongle and Headset sync together. But no Audio via USB.
Maybe the Kernel has changed and no longer compatible, as it natively works on linux.
Am not familiar with Kernels, maybe someone with a little more experience could add some more detail to it.

Sure the Kernel has to support USB Host Mode + External Power at the same time, like Timur's USB host kernel and others do.
But maybe a driver is missing?
the Chromecast kernel includes only one driver (asix.ko / USB_NET_AX8817X), but that supports a large family of ASIX parts (AX88xxx), and is very common today. if you search for "USB AX88179" in Amazon/Newegg/Google/wherever, you should be able to locate something cheap.

So, it seems this has been added to LineageOS on a device-by-device basis: https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_kernel_oneplus_msm8996/+/253772
