Hello, I have a Galaxy S2, I just bought my USB OTG/Host cable. The funny thing is I can only connect mouse and I can use it. But when I use other USB devices like flash drives, I only get the light signal. I am unable to read or write to the flash drive. Any help?

Try going to Root/MNT/NTFS/SBA1 once your drive is mounted. Let me know if it works.
I cannot use my mouse its showing hi power usb device connected..

Maybe it needs external power supply? SGS2 is not really designed to power all devices from it's usb port.. but:
I've got working flash drives with fat32, keyboards and mice with Omega ICS + Syiah kernel.
Also, if you want to get NTFS flash drives working, download NTFS mounter from market.
My USB drives work well. I believe you need an app to mount the drives. Just search"otg mount" in GPlay. I'm using Chainfire's mounter personally.
I'm using the latest Siyah kernel with CM9(worked on Slim, Paranoid and Root Box too).
For some reason I just can't connect my mouse(wired) to my phone.

I bought another USB OTG/Host hub. Picture:

Now it works for flash drives, pen drives. Things like webcam, mouse, keyboard doesn't work any more. I am able to connect 4 flash drives at once as it has 4 ports. How? I heard from people that the 4.0.3 kernel doesn't support it. I doesn't want to root my device yet.

I had the same problem with my Galaxy SII (stock ROM & kernel).
However, after the recent update from version 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 everything is working fine!
The only thing I have problems with now is my USB hub.
Interestingly enough, the keys of the USB keyboard I tried were correctly mapped to the german layout (QWERTZ). This was not the case in Android 2.3.
Even USB MIDI interfaces work now!

Yes, it's working (and without wizardry of any kind).

I just used an SNES-usb adapter I got from amazon 3years ago, connected to the microUSB-USBotg adapter. The amazing thing is, it works in the system itself, you can go in the menus, navigate trough icons and all !
If only I got the HDMI adapter
is your phone rooted/running custom rom ? or just pure stock unmodified ? Mine is stock (4.0.2) and I am not sure if the USB host function is working on mine
I'm running Android Revolution HD, which is based on the stock 4.0.3 kernel but is a 4.0.2 rom. I recently installed a script for the usb host function, but I though it was only for mounting usb-key. Do you have an usb otg adapter ? if you got anything, a mouse, a small keyboard, or an xbox pad (for pc) you can try.

Yes, i have the USB OTG adapter. Tried USB and mouse but it didn't work. I thought it was meant for rooted phone but i could be wrong. Can you link to me the script you installed?
thanks
I'll be damned. I was sure it was a script (which would require you'd get an unlocked bootloader and a recovery anyway), but it's only an app : StickMount. It's quite strange, I see the notification of the app when I plug in a usb key, but not when I connect a keyboard or gaming controller.
I guess it's still better for you if you don't want to unlock your bootloader (for the warranty or something) : you just have to wait for an exploit to get root & superuser on your phone.
Sorry that doesn't work unrooted... :/
Pretty much thought that I need to root the phone to use this feature.
Thanks for sharing though.

USB host for keyboard/mouse/gamepad is fully supported in the stock 4.0.2.
If you have 4.0.2 and USB host doesn't works, it means that the cable is not a relly USB OTG cable, but a simple USB F > MicroUSB M adapter

It is the official samsung one and it has been working for everyone with root installed.
Honeycomb and ICS have native support for USB gamepads. I actually use my Nostromo game pad and it works well. You don't need root or a special OTG cable. Just need a converter from USB>MicroUSB.
Hi,
I flashed my Xperia Pro MK16i with the PACman 4.1.2 ROM 19.3. But it is still unable to detect pendrives on USB OTG. I tried installing USB OTG Helper but it wouldn't detect my pendrive. I found a video on one of the links on this forum which showed copying some modules to the root. I tried that too, but didn't help. Can anybody kindly explain me the steps to follow?
Thanks!
First, try to install it on linux system. If it doesn't work there, it doesn't work on android. But if you'll find driver for, you can try to compile it for your android linux kernel.

Install what on linux?
Hi,
i assume you got the usb-storage.ko installed at /system/lib/modules...
Install Android terminal or use adb to check your kernel output by typing dmesg at the prompt.
Some USB sticks ask for too much power during enumeration.
The kernel will block the access in that case.
On the Xperia 2011 devices we are limited to 300mA maximum at the OTG port using host mode.
Quoted from the datasheet of the charger IC:
VBUS is regulated to 5V at up to 300mA to power USB OTG peripherals

I realized this several times as well.
Many cheap sticks use the default setting in their firmware and ask for 500mA, which is too much for our phones.
Hope this helps!

You meant this? Well that's sad. It even detected the model number of my pendrive! And i'm guessing there's no workaround?
Thanks scholbert.
I'll double check on the power requirements on that pendrive and update. I want to see if it really asks for more than 300mA.

Yeah that's the message you get.
During enumeration, there's a request from host to device how much power is needed after fully initializing the hardware.
Sadly most USB stick manufacturers leave this entry in their USB memory controllers as default to 500mA,
because this is the current given in the USB spec.
In fact this is little stupid because most USB sticks do consume less than 200mA in real environment.
If you ask for a work around... then i would say: Try another stick!
If you like hacking hardware... then well yes you may tweak your stick by using factory tools and re-programm the entry which is checked during current request
You may start your search here: http://flashboot.ru/index.php?name=iflash&vord=0&pord=&pagenum=16
On a quick sight there's no real factory tool for the SM3255 available

Apart form measure the real current, you may check this with lusb -v on a Linux machine or digg deep in the Windows driver information with your stick attached.

Hi All,
(i hope this is the right forum)
I recently bought a Tmo Note 3 off Swappa, the phone has been (still is) working perfectly except i just realized it wont mount to my PC and Kies says unsupported device. the guy i bought it from said it was unlocked but didnt say anything about custom ROM's or anything.
i have installed Kies 3, updated it, installed the USB drivers from Kies, i downloaded and installed the 1.5.45.0 USB drivers, i have tried a couple different PC's and nothing seems to work. i also noticed if i try and and do software update from settings>about device it says "your device has been modified software updates are not available."
model number is SM-N900T, Android Version 4.4.2.
anyone have any ideas how i can get it to mount to my PC?
thanks in advance

I have never used Kies so I don't know what "mount" means to it, but if you mean mount your device's media so that you can directly read from and write to it through Windows Explorer - i.e. Universal Mass Storage (UMS) - then that ability has been removed beginning with Android 4.3.

Wha...? really? you cant just plug your note 3 into your PC through USB and move files around?

Not since 4.3. You still have MTP but that is about the same thing as FTP -- files are transferred when used. With UMS the media is mounted into the PC's file system. There are some custom kernels for the SM-N900T that have re-enabled UMS but I think they are all for Android 4.4.x and I am still using 4.3 so I haven't tried any of them.

I can plug my note 3 to my laptop and go through my files. It automatically pops up. Open/view files

If you cannot see them through Notepad's File|Open file locator then it is MTP.

You can try to reinstall the driver from the Samsung website. Similar situation happened to me a few days ago.
Don't use kies 3. Download and install Kies and that should fix your issue. http://www.samsung.com/in/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/JSP

I would agree with you here, however, when I first got my Note 3 and connected to my MBP (same model as OP), it used to display the option, but ever since NB4 and beyond I haven't ever seen the option again.
The only thing I haven't tried, is launching Android File Transfer before plugging it in to see if that makes a difference, but I uninstalled that due to NE6 (and beyond)'s ability to show the internal and external sdcards as mount points.

Will the Epic4GT work with something that requires USB OTG such as "Therm-App"?
So I read that this phone supports USB OTG so I was hoping to get it to work as a dedicated device with Therm-App.

I was hoping that when I updated to Cyanogen 11, it would fix things for me. It didn't.
Any suggestions?

oh no... and i had so much trouble installing CM 11. lol. Is there a touchwiz version for 4.4.2+? Can I do it right from the CM 11 recovery?
Would Touchwiz fix it? If the device requires power over the port, can the Epic4GT support it?
I've read other threads questioning that. Now that I have CM 11 on here, I don't want to risk tossing it if TW won't actually fix the problem. As for TW roms, are there any in 4.4.x? I only was able to locate 4.1.x.

It's called a nandroid backup[emoji6] make one and then flash Touchwiz, that way you can go back if it doesn't work. I remember people saying that it didn't work on AOSP and that the HDMI adapter didn't work on AOSP either, but they worked on Touchwiz. I have no actual experience in this field, only what people have told me. And no that thread is not relevant, completely different thing.
