Where is my storage space? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I flashed 4.1.1 jelly bean and I was checking my storage and this is what I got!! What's wrong with my storage?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

I recognise that. I had the same problem, but you just have to wait. There is a tab that is called misc. That show up after a while, there is probably your storage disappearing.

your available storage space is 4.33G, what is the problem?

I have 13.33 GB available overall and I haven't used more than 3 GB yet it says I only have 4GB left!!

Same here buy it doesn't bother me so much

While it was "Calculating" there is an item called "Misc", and it disappears after calculating is done. I think maybe it's your nandroid backups, Titanium backups, or some other files. I suggest you to adb shell into your device and use "busybox du -sd1" to see which directory takes most space.

Exactly the same happens on my Gnex

I don't have titanium backup or anything. My phone isn't even rooted. Did any of you guys find a solution to this problem?
What is a nandroid backup anyway?

use a free google play market app called DiskUsage to find exacty whats taking up your storage..

Thanks man. That worked, it shows that I have my old apps (Shadow gun, max Payne etc) still stored. Is it safe to just delete them using the app you recommended since it gives me the option to?

yea, thats what i normally do when i find something taking space that i dont want. its usually app data from a deleted app that takes up the missing space(for me).

ASTRO file manager is a good tool for doing the usual file manipulation tasks, and it does not require a rooted phone to work with SD card contents. It's free on the Play store.
Just long-press on a file and tap "delete" or use the "multi" button to select and move/copy/delete/etc. multiple files at once.

Check your recovery backups, see if you have too many, they can take up quite a bit of space.

i dont think so, i remember reading someone with a similar problem in another forum but cant for the life of me remember where, sorry! are u on a custom rom? try reflashing or connect to your computer and use the explorer to see where all your space has gone. if that doesnt show more space and a reflash doesnt fix maybe its your internal storage itself i think thats what it was with the other person and its irreparable without replacing. I know Flac music files are crazy big but i assume ud know if it was that. hope i help in some way and if i come across the other person with the same problem ill post a link.
I had a similar issue after flashing a new rom, it would show up with about 9gb taken up space even though nothing showed up. The way I'd fixed it was by formatting the sd card from clockworkmod.
A few ideas
Install solid explorer from the play store. It has a mode that lets you see what is eating up space graphically.
If you download roms vía rommanager or any other app check the sd card folders for those downloads. they're about 150 mb a piece so they can add up (especially if you do nightlies)
If i format my sd card via recovery,
Do i lose my apps?

You will lose any apps installed on the SD card.

I don't know of a way to restore directly from dropbox. I believe it WS designed as a means to store the backups rather than restore from there.

Right. There are some apps on the market you can use to download from drop box to your phone. I've never used them but its worth a shot if you don't have a PC near by.

How do I delete back up done by clock work recovery

Its not visible in the file explorer..and its almost occupying more then 2 gig ram..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Boot into clockwork, Then scroll to backup/restore and you see a delete option inside. So it has to be done through clockwork.

You can also delete them using the ROM Manager app.

It's not occupying any ram. Especially since the Gnex only has 1GB.

That must be 2GB of space on the memory he is talking about!

download root explorer if you have not already and go to sd card/clockwork mod/backup and delete which ever one you wanted to
Dint help...I had to do it in recovery mode.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The blob folder occupies the most space.
I believe, however, that erasing that folder will render all backups useless.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Deleting the backup in recovery mode would take care of the blob part, you don't ve to delete blobs separately .

Delete a couple of apps you dont use much then download an app2sd type app, move as many as you are allowed onto sd, should free up system storage as it seems likely you have too many apps in system storage.
If you are rooted use 'Rom Toolbox', works a treat.
After moving apps reboot phone after which you should have no problems downloading and installing apps
