Any one know if there's a cheaper one available and confirmed working?
There are cheapo ones that say "galaxy s3, s3, htc evo, etc" compatible, but i dont think a lot of sellers realize its a different pin connection.
has anyone been able to purchase one that works?
the genuine samsung one is too expensive.

Same!
You can use a cheapo adapter with Samsung's adapter kit.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Samsung-OEM-...Accessories&hash=item2572f37fc3#ht_1660wt_889
Free shipping to the US. $26 shipping to Canada (which is why I haven't purchased it yet)
Yeah I think I may just use the MHL adapter from the GS2 and the 5-pin to 11-pin adapter tip both from samsung. At least they're both OEM and I don't really feel like waiting.
MHL: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006FYXL2O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&smid=A2AXKMC4UVT4QQ
Adapter Tip: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083FYL0O/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=A1FBR7E8HT21EQ
Total is only $22.65. Just over half the price of the GS3 adapter.
The adapter tip you guys are referring to is usb to micro hdmi right? So you need the adapter tip plus micro hdmi to hdmi cable. The latter can be picked up for 4 bucks from ebay.

No, the MHL adapter is a microUSB to regular HDMI adapter. However the old MHL adapters for the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S2 use a 5-pin microUSB input and you need an 11-pin microUSB input so that's what the adapter tip does.
There is a 3rd party one here for preorder

I'm pretty sure that's a Galaxy Nexus in that video. Note the on-screen soft buttons and lack of physical home button.

Why does it have to be so ugly though!
I dont think it looks that bad but it would suit me better than a mhl cable if it supports charging through usb and not hdmi as i dont think my tv supports this
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
The official mhl cable has a micro usb socket on it so you can charge your phone with a usb charger while connected to your hdmi tv.

That looks damn good imo. I want one
I think it has not a hdmi port but just a micro usb port

Yes I saw that too but thought that they had updated it to include hdmi.

This dock has no HDMI, it does not even allow to connect to PC, or at least I read so.
It simply allows to charge the device and output audio.

According to the article, Engadget thinks it does.
£40 is pretty expensive if it's just a dumb dock. It would make more sense if it had hdmi out, but we'll probably have to wait a while to find out either way.
Why are there 2 buttons on the right of the dock? The S2 only has the power button on the right.
the 2 buttons on the side are the volume controls
they are on the wrong side.

What defines a 'wrong side' to put the volume controls on?
Amazon uk and Mobile Fun are selling these for £29.99.Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post links

So can you connect your phone to the pc and transfer files with this dock? On mobilefun it says "The official Samsung Desktop Dock is designed to hold your phone while simultaneously synchronising and charging it.", so I guess you can?

The fact that I doubt that the buttons on the dock do anything other than push the button down on the phone underneath similar to a gel case button. The fact that they are on the right would mean nothing underneath to push on. Also it would make no sense to put the button on a different side to the phones buttons as this would just confuse/piss off users.
If the buttons actually control the phone via usb then this is a needless expense and would explain why a simple dock is so expensive.
Anyone know of a good adapter to use on the SGS II? I am not sure this is even possible.

The Amaze im not sure as this is the TmoGS2 forum...........however on the t989 there is an app called AllShare which enables DLNA, & yes it works great.
Another vote for the Monoprice MHL adapter.
Shopping accessories for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 Verizon, I notice that there's a ton of generic USB Host adapters and memory card readers available for dirt cheap, but nobody seems to have done a generic HDMI adapter. Am I simply looking in the wrong places, or is there a reason why only the expensive Samsung branded ones are available?
You are right. Nothing generic on ebay... Only Samsung original.

Dealextreme also has a ton of generic USB adapters and such, but nothing for HDMI.
I don't really NEED HDMI of course, but it would be kind of nice.
maybe you could try to look for it at staples they had it real cheap last time i looked
I bought my hdmi adapter from verizon wireless..$9 for the docking station etc..best price and works perfect

Are you guys using the OEM samsung one or a third party one? I've been looking to get one and the Samsung one seems really overpriced. I ordered the Fosmon one but it was out of stock and the reviews for it aren't thay great so I might up ordering the OEM one.

I'm pretty sure we as Note 2 owners are locked into using Samsung's proprietary MHL adapter. We can't even use one that worked with the GS2, Galaxy Nexus, or even the Note 1 without an additional adapter. The GS3 and the Note 2 have a special pin layout that requires their newest and most expensive MHL adapter. Amazon has one for 34 bucks and I've been hesitant to jump on it because I don't know how much I'll really use it.
i just bought one samsung mhl to hdmi of ebay and it dint work on my note 2 only on the galaxy s3

I am using an 11 pin wire I bought off of amazon for 15 bucks. Its an all in one soulution. It has a micro usb head for the phone, full size usb to plug into your tv or power block and an hdmi. Works well. Ive had no problems.

It should be here tomorrow. Wish i would have seen that red one. Does the same job for half the price. Oh well i guess.
I ended up getting the official Samsung MHL adapter from best buy online because I had some rewards zone credits. paid nothing for it. Unfortunately, it turned out that it was the older generation adapter and doesn't work with my note 2. Ordered the 5pin to 11pin adapter from samsung using the 50% off coupon and paid 5 bucks (plus 4 bucks shipping sadly) This combination works perfectly. a bit clunky with the additional piece but cost me 9 bucks total, can't complain. Works perfectly even using the extra adapter. :good:
ps - smart dock for the note 2 is also avaliable on amazon atm
Hey guys all I could find for hdmi adaptors were 50$ here in canada. Did some reading bought this galaxy tab dock for 15 $. It has a mini hdmi out which is great, cable was 15$ for 6ft. Everything works great. I cut the side edges out and put some felt tabs on the adaptor. Put a piece of hockey tape on it after. Tablet doesnt move. No fear of too much pressure on the connector. Works great as desktop stand and for mirroring on tv. Bought it on amazon. I know its a little rough but it was just to see if it worked ill clean up the edges later

$12.95 w/free shipping here in the states on Ebay for the HDMI Multimedia Galaxy Tab 7.0 Desktop Charger Music Dock.
I may get one and use a table saw to cut the ends off of the unit like you did.
