Phone stuck on HTC screen after a soft reset. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, my girlfriends Desire is stuck on the HTC loading screen after she restarted the phone. the phone has never been flashed or anything. she was using her stock ROM. My questian is if it is somehow possible to try and save her contacts, messages etc. before hard reseting and actually if hard reset would fix the problem?
Thank you in advance!

Contacts are probably stored on google account, but that's why there is an option called 'export to sd' in contacts menu. Anything else is magic if you know what I mean...

U could try pulling the battery before hard reset

Root via update.zip, flash new recovery, backup rom, flash the same Android version ruu your gf has, then s-off, root and then restore data.

Usually it backups by itself, try to log on to her account on some other phone and see.

Not sure about what you are talking about?
Root over update.zip but OK?
Flashing recovery while S-ON and no way to turn on the phone?
Flashing RUU, why and rest of the junk?
He will have to flash RUU at the end because it's the only way to fix it, but man only asked how to backup and recover contacts and messages data so he can recover it again!!!
If you are s-off and you have 4ext recovery there's recovery commander that can access all root partitions so contact data can be pulled out and copied to sd card for restore.

[Q] HTC Evo 4G

Ok so I'm new to androids completly. Was looking to root my new phone. Let me start off by saying I'm in Japan and have the HTC Evo 4G. I was attempting to use unrevoked but seem to be stuck at how to get to the hboot. I just updated to 2.3.4 and when I power off my phone then hit volume down and power button to gain access to hboot it simply turns the phone back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Head over the the revolutionary.io site, you should be good to go. You have to use that method to root for gingerbread on the evo.
Check this thread for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
And turn off fast boot in settings/applications and then try to boot into hboot I think thats where it is I'm not sure I haven't been on sense in a while I'm not even sure if a stock ROM has it but look there to boot into hboot.

done
disregard this post please
Take out the battery, put it back in, hold volume down + power key for 3-5 seconds to get into bootloader. Theres a youtube video, can't remember what its called, but it shows step by step on how to root through Revolutionary. Very easy. Took me like 5 min to root

the recovery should be a PC36IMG.zip you flash that in hboot just make sure its on the root of your sdcard not in any folders then when you go to hboot it will find the update just except it.
The su apk should be a flashable zip just boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then go to flash zip and choose that zip and flash it then reboot.
If this is your first time in recovery before you do anything make a nandroid backup this will backup everything in case anything goes wrong you can restore the backup and your phone will be just the way it was when you made the backup.

Ok got it all figured out. To be honest you had me lost and I almost made another noob post but I got it now. Figured out the whole flash to SD card deal. I am 100% rooted now. Now for a ROM
I downloaded the synergy rom and it deleted my carrier email app. Do all roms do this?? I'll say it again here, I'm in japan so might be a little different from the states. Anybody know how I could get it back using this rom?? Or a good rom to use that won't delete this app.

What happens is when you flash a rom, its a whole new phone basically [os] so it comes packaged with its own apps, themes. What you can do is:
- go into recovery, backup your current rom
- restore your initial backup
- use / download es file explorer [free] from the market
- enable su permissions, then navigate to /system/app and copy it to your sd card
- go back to recovery, restore the synergy backup
- once booted, install the app from the sd card
or if it was backed up, open titanium backup, restore the app and data.
Thanks for the help teh roxxorz. I got the mail thing figured out. Worked with es file but didn't work to well with titanium backup. Took some trial and error to find all the files needed cuz the paste the whole folder didn't work. Having other issues finding the contacts and getting force closes, so I decided to just not use that rom. On to finding another good one that works.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So I tried miui and that didn't work as well. Couldn't get the mail to work at all on that rom. Anybody happen to be in Japan and using this phone and could suggest a good rom to use that they have their au email and contacts moved over on, and have minimal issues?

[Q] Will flashing a new ROM wipe my external micro sd card?

Hey guys, I was thinking about flashing a new ROM via CWM and I've been looking at alot of videos and tutorials online, and they all say, that when you install the new ROM you must "factory data reset" your phone from CWM. So my question is, what will that erase? Will it erase anything on my SD Card? And what programs should I use to backup my stuff, in case it does get deleted?

when you do a factory reset it will wipe internal storage not external(sd card). if you want to backup your apps etc. use either titanium backup or rom toolbox to do so.

once you back up your stuff. install titanium back or rom toolbox (whichever you used) from play store and select the restore option.

one last advice before you flash read ALL the instruction 2-3 times and ONLY flash when you understand them completely. follow that advice and hopefully you will never brick or harm your phone. good luck

Titanium backup only does your apps and app data......I recommend Easy Backup cuz that will get your SMS, MMS, Contacts, Calender, call log and even your apps

For photos, i recommend using G-Photos Sync feature. for apps, titanium backup, for contacts (the best you can do is export them to a vcf file transfer it to your pc then import from vcf file)
(For music i contain all the sound files on the ext-sd since factory reset doesn't touch ext-sd).
But if you have lost any of your important files, your best chance of getting them back is using hiren's boot on your pc with the undeleter tools.

[Q] Syncing apps installed before Factory reset

Hi guys, I have one question:
When I do factory reset on my DHD before few months, when it finished with formatting I was very surprised when it started to automatically installing all applications which I have before reset as soon as I connect it to my home wireless network. To see what's happening, I do a factory reset on GF Desire Z and the same issue (whatever) has occured.
Question is: How to STOP my DHD and GF Desire Z to automatically download & restore all installed application before factory reset?
PS. Before factory reset, I formatted SD card.
Thanks to all!
Is it possible that there is nobody had this problem?
maybe just try to uninstall the apps manually?
i think it has something to do with the automatic backup function (means your google accout) on your phone.
i had that problem too but after i uninstalled them (with titanium backup) they didnt come back so just give it a try

[Q] Unable to restore .ab backup on rooted One V

I recently rooted my One V, but I did an adb backup with all the flags. Including backing up shared files.
After root, I am unable to restore my .ab backup as it stalls at com.android.sharedstorage or something like that. The backup won't move at all, and I have important messages and contacts that are backed up in the file.
Please help me with this. Thanks...
uhmm, i did not understand it ! :!
So your saying instead of using cwm or twrp you made a system dump with adb? Hmmm. Is it too late to run the ruu and start from scratch and do it right?

Okay, so I shall explain again.
Before unlocking & rooting my One V, I made an .ab backup using adb (command line = adb backup -noshared etc etc). Backed up my contacts and stuff.
After unlocking and rooting, I installed CM10 on my One V.
Then after that, I used adb again to push the backup to the phone. The phone accepts it and all, but then it stalls at restoring com.android.sharedstoragebackup for ages and won't move.
I have no SD card in the phone before or after the backup/unlock/root/restore.
I will try the RUU and see how things work. In the meantime, if there are any alternatives, in case the RUU method doesn't, please advice.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Bricked m8 (international variant)?

Hi,
It's my third day with this the new HTC One, and when I was trying to disable system write protection, I think I did something wrong and all I can do now is boot into bootloader and twrp. I just got this phone and my parents are going to kill me if they find out I screw it up

If you can get in TWRP then you can either restore a backup (if you have one) or push a ROM to internal storage (or an external SD) and install from there. You're not bricked

Download a custom rom from here, connect to PC through usb port in TWRP, copy rom into sdcard, flash it.
That should work

I've downloaded the GPe rom and flashed it, thank god it's worked. But on another note why can't I do anything on my external sd card on my computer? I'm using a microsd to sdcard converter (I also made sure the lock wasn't on) and the I can't make a new folder, or delete anything? I'm on Windows 7.
