[Q] Syncing apps installed before Factory reset - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I have one question:
When I do factory reset on my DHD before few months, when it finished with formatting I was very surprised when it started to automatically installing all applications which I have before reset as soon as I connect it to my home wireless network. To see what's happening, I do a factory reset on GF Desire Z and the same issue (whatever) has occured.
Question is: How to STOP my DHD and GF Desire Z to automatically download & restore all installed application before factory reset?
PS. Before factory reset, I formatted SD card.
Thanks to all!

Is it possible that there is nobody had this problem?

maybe just try to uninstall the apps manually?
i think it has something to do with the automatic backup function (means your google accout) on your phone.
i had that problem too but after i uninstalled them (with titanium backup) they didnt come back so just give it a try

Disable the google option to backup your data...

But then he won't even get his contacts and stuff from his Google account...

I tried all of that but didn't solve the problem.

Are you on ics or gb? I'll have a look what I can do
Oh and are you (and your gf) on a stock or custom rom (which one)

Hard reset on rooted phone

So what would happen if I did the above? IE initiate hard reset from inside settings. I'm guessing it doesn't actually restore the phone to "factory" if the phone is rooted?
Cheers.
Sent from my DeVillain using XDA App
No it will not, it will delete any installed apps and user data such as contacts bookmarks etc which you can easily backup
Cheers for the reply dude, probably a daft question, but I did wonder! Just to clarify then a hard reset on my rooted, custom Rom running desire will simply reset my current Rom? Only rooted a couple of days ago, so its all a tad confusing!
Sent from my DeVillain using XDA App
It will not change anything in the Rom or the boot or anything, it will simply delete any user data, such as contacts apps etc, it will not touch the main system, it will not touch anything youve flashed
Nice one, just what I needed to know, cheers man!

Hard-reset ?

Hi guys, pls assist...
I want to hard-reset my Desire but not sure if this will wipe everything (contacts, sms, emails, installed apps, homescreens, settings etc.) Or, will they be backed-up and restored back exactly as it was before(?)
Well, when I applied the latest OTA firmware upgrade, that was the case; I mean everything was in place as if nothing has changed, because in privacy settings "backup my settings" and "automatic restore" options were enabled. May I expect same after a hard-reset too?

Hard reset wipes the data and settings on your phone.
OTA does not.
You should use some kind of backup app in order to restore to the state before the factory reset.
Thx 3722, so I hv decided to postpone this for now..
And, next question in this case, if I use any 3rd party backup app and use it to restore my phone, shall the Market recognize my installed apps as if they have been downloaded and installed via market? Actually that's the only thing keeping me away from hardreset.
Is there any backup utility or a method ensuring installed apps recognized by market after restore?

Titanium Backup is what you need.
Its in the market ;-)

Yes, Titanium is the most popular backup tool and it needs root.
If you don't want to root you can use appbrain app and sync thru appbrain.com once you've reset the phone, to install the apps that you had previously.
Hmm.. I m not rooted and dont want to root just for that (will consider rooting just in case we do not get gingerbread and/or the new sense officially)
As to the appbrain app -already installed in my phone- if i backup/sync apps with appbrain, then will they be linked again to the android market, so that i will be able to get future updates, or only by appbrain?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
When you use appbrain the apps are installed from the android market, so you should have them linked.
See this thread
Thanks for all your valuable input, will give it a try soon.

How to preserve softwares

Just a question regarding upgrading from a one ROM to another ROM, can we like preserve the applications that we had install in our phone so that we don't have to reinstall them again? Or we have to reinstall everything? What about paid applications does market automatically knows that you've purchase the app already? Thanks...

You can use an app called Titanium Backup to save copies of your applications and their settings. Then restore them back again on the new ROM. Usually the apps restore automatically anyway once you enter your google account details onto the phone, it will download all the apps you had installed previously. If you do it this way all your settings will be lost though.
And yes, market will remeber what apps you purchased.
Thanks for the quick response.. Much appreciated...

[Q] No Gmail sync, No Google Talk access (Darkside Evolution 3 v5)

Hi, this is my first non-stock ROM so I'm hoping it's a simple fix. Using Darkside Evolution 3 v5 on my Galaxy SII.
My Gmail is not syncing and I can't get Google Talk to work, it says I'm logged in but I'm not "green" and nobody on my friends list is listed as online.
Deleted and re-added my Google account in "Accounts and Sync" but that didn't help. I'm using Google 2-Step Authentication, does that have anything to do with it?
Thanks for any help!

Did you restore Gmail and Gtalk from a backup after you installed the ROM? If so, I'd recommend just un-installing the app and re-installing it from the play store. Lots of times restored apps with data cause problems when going from GB to ICS, even if you didn't go from gb to ics at this point I'd just try to uninstall/reinstall.. Then check account sync settings and make sure they are checked off.

Yes I restored Gmail and Talk from Titanium Backup, went from GB to ICS. I just deleted Gmail and re-installed and it's still not auto syncing, it only syncs when I manually go in and refresh it. Also I didn't delete Talk because I don't see Talk as downloaded app so I'm not sure where to delete it.
I've had this problem randomly with titanium backup too. It's the restore that'd causing your problem, I'd bet. Did the phone sync before you restored with titanium?
I never found a solution, just had to manually restore everything.
Ive had this problem in the past. You have to delete your google account and then put it back.

Yes everything was fine before I rooted and went to the Darkside, I'll bet you're right. What's the most efficient way to do this, just wipe and re-install the ROM?

Well for me the rom works fine until I restore with titanium. I just downloaded all my apps again and let Google restore what it could.
So yeah I would just wipe and re flash the radio and the rom, then not restore using titanium. Alternatively you could just revert back to the stock rom you backed up before flashing darkside.
Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be a comon problem of more heavy hitters would have figured out a real solution.

Yeah I'm sure it's my fault and not the rom, just didn't know where I screwed up. I never flashed a radio, is that odd? I like how Darkside performs (battery and speed) so I want to try to keep it, we'll see.
Because all the pertinent data is kept on their servers, i don't back up gmail or voice with titanium, i download them from the play store if not included in the ROM. I have had to go back into the "accounts & sync" to manually turn on the syncing, but other than that no issues. Darkside cache wipe is your friend as well, amazing the "glitches" it fixes.

Ok I'll try a clean wipe and flash with no backup. The original instructions I read didn't suggest flashing a radio, but the official instructions say to do so, which radio should I flash since there are two options?
I think I'm on the uvle1 radio. As i understand it, you can use either one. Try each to see if one works better for you.

Phone stuck on HTC screen after a soft reset.

Hi, my girlfriends Desire is stuck on the HTC loading screen after she restarted the phone. the phone has never been flashed or anything. she was using her stock ROM. My questian is if it is somehow possible to try and save her contacts, messages etc. before hard reseting and actually if hard reset would fix the problem?
Thank you in advance!

Contacts are probably stored on google account, but that's why there is an option called 'export to sd' in contacts menu. Anything else is magic if you know what I mean...

Usually it backups by itself, try to log on to her account on some other phone and see.

Not sure about what you are talking about?
Root over update.zip but OK?
Flashing recovery while S-ON and no way to turn on the phone?
Flashing RUU, why and rest of the junk?
He will have to flash RUU at the end because it's the only way to fix it, but man only asked how to backup and recover contacts and messages data so he can recover it again!!!
If you are s-off and you have 4ext recovery there's recovery commander that can access all root partitions so contact data can be pulled out and copied to sd card for restore.
