[Q] Rooting Xperia Arc 4.0.4 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI Great Minds,
i have recently updated my arc from GB 4.0.2..A.0.62 to ICS 4.1.B.0.431.
i need to root the arc,
i followed so many methods like super one click, doomlord,s fast boot root method and nothing rooted,so i followed a thread, and did like that.
the procedure is, to downgrade to 4.0.3, 4.1.B.0.562 tft thro flashtool.
i tried to do the same, i din get the .562 tft for LT15i, every one advised to use LT18i 's .562 tft, i tried but results in the malfunctioning, all the process are getting force closed. again i tried repair phone thro the pc companion suite and it repaires the changes and now the 4.0.4 rom is working fine.. i need to root my device without flashing it. please help me in this..
Many Thanks in advance.

with all due respect, that was clearely the wrong process. you can root the 4.0.4 firmware in 2 ways
1) flash 4.0.4( no need in your case) nad then flash the stock kernel of 4.0.3(.562) then, use oneclick root and root your phone .if you want, flash back the stock kernel from 4.0.4
2) download the ready to root firmware from the below link, flash it through flashtool and then use oneclick root exploit for your phone (this file is nothing but the compilation of 4.0.4 firmware and kernel of 4.0.3)

Hi,
Did you try this method ? The ZIP contains all files needed : CLICK HERE
1. Flash LT15i_.ftf via Flashtool
2. Enter recovery by command: fastboot boot recoveryARC.img
( recoveryARC.img from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=169 )
3. Sets scripts assets: ENABLED
4. Flash RootXperia.zip via recovery
5. Reboot device and voila, done. Now device is rooted.
All crédits to the one who post it, i don't remember his name or his thread but it's a good method...

Hi
now since i have unlocked bootloader nd flashed the FW 4.0.3 nd rooted with Kernal 4.1.A.0.562, an update is bugging me that says 4.1.B.03.431 which is the same Build when i have originally bought the phone with GB FW nd then updated it with ICS official from Sony !
Now my question is, can i update the nd Flash the Kernal 4.1.B.03.431 using Flashtool would it take me to fw 4.0.4 or its useless? or i can try updating from the notification im getting on the phone ?

There is a difference my friend ! if i flash .431 then i wouldnt be able to push superuser in it as the toolkits dont work in .431 ! wat im asking is should i only flash Kernal .431 not the firmware by using flashtool would it make any changes to the system or nothing i mean if i flash only kernal will it remove the kernal or CWM app ?
Will it remove the Superuser nd CWM app
system files on .431 is different than on .562..so its btr if you flash .431 over your .562 and you can any way root again..
and the difference i mentioned was b/w flashtool update and sony official method..

Help !
Mate, you've got an unlocked bootloader. Why are you so worried?
Just hotboot any custom kernel with CWM and flash the superuser binary in recovery.

well, @XperienceD would have used a ready to root .431 file. which is nothing but rom of .431 and kernel of .562. hence. so i would suggest you to check out this thread and then, download the file accordingly and flash it using flashtool. once you are rooted, u casn flash the orignal kernel of .431 into your phone

[Q] How to root sony arc 2.3.4 0.62

Hi all,
I'm new at android devices and i have bought a sony arc phone for days.
I have flash my Arc in android 2.3.4 and unlocked bootloader.

I do gooling and find many ways to root but it do not work for my case.
I found that there're two best ways:
- Do flash back to 2.3.4 .042 and do rooted , then update via wifi to 2.3.4. .062. I have unlock bootloader then i think that i can not try this way.
- Other way, Go to fastboot mode and then enter recovery section, try to update rootPhone.zip . But when i enter fastboot command it say that you have to rooted your phone first!!!
What should i do now ? I don't want to go for ICS because of battery's time.
Anyone can have suggestion for me.
Thanks,
the only method is that unlock bootloader

But i think that you do not read my post, i have unlocked bootloader, but when i try to enter command in fastboot.exe folder , it say that i have to root phone first. Damn, I need fastboot to root but it requires me to roots first???
Fastboot doesn't require rooted phone. You need unlocked bootloader and correct drivers.
You can also relock bootloader and then make OTA update.

arcording to those threads, I found only one way to root on my arc, re-lock bootloader and do root on 2.3.4 .042
But, the thing is, my arc can not re-lock bootloader :-S because of the method to unlock
Then flash back to .42 and try again.

looks like you havent flashed any kernel if your still getting sony logo
flash the kernel recommended in ROM thread
connect phone to PC via usb while holding menu button and you should get a blue led on the side
bootloader unlock is required for this
also root is kind of important for all this so your best off figuring that out first
But if I already have The Stock kernel, why do i need to flash it again?

Have you unlocked your bootloader? If not, you cannot flash custom ROMs, most custom ROMs require you to unlock the bootloader.
Also some custom ROMs require custom kernels to work. Hence, being on the stock kernel just doesn't help

sounds like its the problem... what custom kernels do you recommend?
and how should i do it? flash kernel first and then the rom? or the opposite way?
i should mention again, that my bootloader is UNLOCKED.... but my device is not rooted, just cant seem to be able to root it... what do you think?

Well, the threads with the custom ROMs would generally have a kernel they recommend to be used with the ROM. Use that kernel. Flash kernel through fastboot. Generally first the kernel is flashed and then the ROM, but in principle it doesnt matter since the phone looks for the kernel only at the time of boot.
Root doesn't have to do anything with ROMs. Most of the custom ROMs available are pre-rooted, so by flashing that ROM, you get root access. Similarly, if you flash stock ROM on a pre-rooted ROM, you will lose root access and will have to root using other methods.
Happy Flashing.
Tell me if you could successfully flash.

This is just a compilation of needed steps for newbies like myself, to root your phone and if you don’t wanna flash DooMLoRD’s pre-rooted firmare or anyother kernel stuff if it freaks you out (like it does to me), and until we’re not able to use RootManyAndroid by Bin4ry to root our Sony Xperia S
All credit’s go to DooMLoRD and the one’s who helped him achieve his goal.
This is for Unlocked BootLoaders ONLY
1) Install fastboot drivers (if you havent already) for your xperia S. (it will be a pain, but follow this): http://bit.ly/19VVFCW and download fastboot as well.

2) You need to install the custom recovery by DooMLoRD here
Code:
a) Download his files and create a folder “fastboot”
b) Place custom recovery file in that folder along with fastboot files
c) Turn off your phone
d) Plug your cable to phone
e) Pushing VolumeUp button enter on fastboot mode

[Q] LT28i Root

Hi Guys!
I'm sorry if this question has been asked a gazillion times, but I want to know what I'm getting into first as I am new to rooting.
I have a Sony Xperia Ion (LT28i) with Jelly Bean on it (4.1.2). I was simply wondering if the process outlined in this thread would work:
[Tutorial][ION] Flashing Firmware and Rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1812168
Once again, sorry for a repeat but I'm not exactly sure about what my firmware is etc.
Thanks!

yes that will work..go to settings>about phone> and you will find all the info abt ur software versions...u are basically looking for build number here..
Build Number is:
6.2.B.0.211
Therefore since it appears to be the most recent firmware, I can simply skip to the rooting portion of the guide correct?
Thanks, I've been hoping to get my phone rooted to get rid of all the bloatware.
You guys are awesome!
I have attempted to root the device to no avail. Does the firmware have to be flashed over? Or can I use the firmware currently on it. If it has to be flashed over, my phone does not appear to have drivers in the flash tool. Can I flash without installing a driver?

I believe it is locked as I have not done anything to the phone besides upgrading to JB from ICS. I used the Sony PC Companion to do so as well.
Edit: Bootloader is locked and apparently cannot be unlocked. (According to System info)

It tells me to use the display system check but it just gets stuck hanging at a white screen on my phone and the program does not continue from there. If you could tell me the version of the root program and which option to use, I might be able to do it, but I've tried a few different versions of it with different options. Not exactly sure what I can do.
Edit: Do I have to flash my firmware before trying to root? It doesn't say anywhere that I have to, however could that be what's not allowing me to root?

This method doesnt work with your .211 fw. Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460&highlight=root+211+ion
I've tried that thread's root method. All I keep getting is a screen that it pauses at basically indefinitely, and none of the other root options work.
