Boot Loop After Rebooting? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My GNex is boot looping, and all I did last was install the tasker app. I can't figure it out, it was working fine all night, then when I switched batteries, bootloop. I even tried to switch back with no luck just for kicks lol.
I can get into Clockwork recovery, but it will not let me access my internal data, I never could and its the one thing about Gnex that bugs me... Actually it pisses me off, because even when the phone is on and I tried to backup my phone, sometimes the transfer fails or stops!
I really don't want to format my phone I want my data back at least before I do a wipe. I did a backup in CWM but again mounting data, even usb mount won't work. Clockwork Recovery 5.5.0.4.
Any advice?

Do you still have the rom? If you do reflash it, you won't lose anything if you didn't factory reset.

I don't know maybe somewhere, it was the first Jellybean rom. Even so how can I reflash, I cant get access to my data in recovery? =[
I found the rom, just need to know how to get into data/usb from CWM?

The simple act of flashing the ROM won't delete your data. Its why we have people delete it when switching roms

Evo stuck on boot animation screen - CM7

I just flashed a fresh cm7 rc4, along with gapps, and zendroid kernel (avs i think i'm not sure which one).
Things were working great. I was using the phone, had just installed widget locker, and then tried to plug my phone into the computer.
Thats when the trouble started. For some reason, usb debugging worked, even the wireless tether worked, but I could not get the sd card to be on the computer, the option just never came up.
To fix the problem, I tried resetting the phone, but when I did so the phone became stufk on the cm7 boot animation for a few hours. What do I do?
I would just do a fresh install, but this is actually the third time that I have gotten stuck on the bootloading screen with cm7, so I just need to find a solution. Please help.

Really need some help with this, guys...need my phone back
You're not alone. I installed GApps along with CM7. Stuck in Boot animation. My wife is pissed.
You posted in the wrong section. I will transfer this over to the EVO Q&A area.
I am assuming that you have your EVO rooted. If you are stuck in a bootloop, simply pull your battery, put it back in and press the power button while holding Vol Down. This will make you go into bootloader. From there, simply go into recovery, wipe everything, and reflash the rom. I have done CM7 and gapps and have no issue.

I did that, many times. One time, it just worked. Didn't do anything different as far as I know, but kind of makes me unsure about future flashes etc.
Pull your battery out, wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache in recovery. Flash ONLY CM7 and the google apps. I think the kernel might be the problem for the bootloop.

I never wipe any of those things seperately, I just use calkulin's format all. That couldn't be the source of any problems right?? I mean, I always believed that that was the best way.
Thanks. I ended up doing that. All is better now.

I've used Caulkin's format all twice, and both times, I got stuck in the white screen boot loop and had to reflash Amon Ra, just to get back to recovery and flash one of my nandroids.
Wiping everything in recovery works perfectly fine for me.
I use Calk's format all at least a few times a week, sometimes a couple times a day. Always works fine.
Did you wipe?
Did you wipe the data/cache from the handset? if not do so through clockwork

[Q] Need a bit of help.

About a month ago I decided I wanted to try out Synergy ROM for my EVO, so I went for God Mode and everything has been running fine...until now. I had installed a kernel earlier this week for underclocking and such, but decided today that I didn't really use it as much as I though so I decided to reflash the HTC stock 4.24. I just did that about 10 minutes ago, I made a backup in case something went wrong and I backed up all my apps/texts as well. It flashed, rebooted...then it got stuck in a boot loop. So I pulled the battery and booted up into the bootloader to go into recovery...when I found every time I hit recovery it would just restart to the bootloader. So I'm not really sure if there is anyway to restore my backup or any other way to boot into recovery. Am I just screwed? Or can I use ADB to boot into recovery/restore my backup? This is sort of my first question post so...If you need any more information just ask.
Thanks,
Suprgamr232
If your phone is still going into bootloops. Connect your phone to your computer and go to adb and type in adb reboot recovery. There you can revert back into a nandroid backup. Hope this helps
Not to be rude, but you didn't read the entire post did you? I can't access my recovery and AFAIK adb doesn't work while it's in a bootloop. Also, I don't think adb recognizes my device when it's in the bootloader either.
Hey im just trying to help, Maybe some how you lost your recovery? Maybe try reflashing your recovery from the bootloader, make sure it named pc36img.zip. See if you can access your recovery after that. What recovery are you using btw, clockworkmod or amon ra? and did you wipe your cache and dalvik cache files through recovery before you flashed your kernel?
If you can access your recovery after reflashing it, Try wiping those in recovery and rebooting, see if it boots into your rom. If not and you still get a boot loop but you can access recovery do a full wipe and reflash your rom or try restoring a nandroid
Not gonna argue with you, so I'll let it slide...I'm using clockworkmod and I did wipe my cache and dalvik cache. ATM I haven't been able to get a hold of a new recovery img for some reason...can never get it to download 100%, will try it soon hopefully.
There's no need to argue Ive heard that clockworkmod doesnt always completely wipe the cache and dalvik maybe try using amon ra this time around http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Cant hurt to try it. hope you can get it working for ya, gl
Still stuck in the bootloop. I tried restoring but that didn't help. I tried reinstalling the ROM and the kernel I used before and no change, I don't really want to wipe my phone and try it but...I guess it might turn out that way. Before I do though I was wondering if there is anything else I should try?

You're gona have to do a full wipe [ factory/data, cache, and dalvik ] , reflash your rom, kernel, ect. Once you sign in, boot, ect, you can use titanium backup to restore your apps and data, NOT system settings.
Alrighty then. Did that and everything seems to be working fine...A little disappointed but as long as I have my phone! Thanks for your help!

So i did the factory data reset and when I restarted the phone my root access was gone.

You can flash the rooted kernel with CWM and I think it will be rerooted and you won't have to replace the ROM.
This would be a good opportunity for you to make a cwm flashable backup of the stock rom, since I don't think anyone has yet.

I have a back up of my stock ROM via the backup function of CWM but it has my personal stuff in it. If he just did a factory reset and has no root, he can make a clean backup of the stock ROM but I'm not sure if his back up would work across phones but I don't see why it wouldn't. The important things to back up would be system and data but not cache.
I had a backup of my stock rom via cwm thankfully but I had to re root my phone and also I had to reinstall CWM all over again.
I will definitely not be using the factory data reset feature anymore. The only reason why I even used it was cause the storage space on my phone was showing incorrect numbers and every time I tried to reinstall the stuff that was on it before it keep telling me i was out of space.
After clearing the internal storage space everything came back to normal but my root was gone and CWM to.
But everything is good now.
Thanks guys!

I cant flash any rom....

I have tried to flash 5 different roms that are known to work and flash right but they all do the same thing on my phone which is hang at the Samsung screen and not boot. Im using the TWRP recovery with exfat support from the dev section. This is what ive tried....
Ive tried flashing from both internal and external sd . I never ever never dirty flash. I always wipe cache, dalvick, factory reset, and format system every time times 3.
Anyone have a clue why I cant flash anything?
Edit... I can restore nanandroid backups but cannot flash anything

Did you say "format system"? You don't need to do that. That will wipe your entire OS. When you flash a ROM, it already wipes and replaces the system, so there's no need to format it beforehand. If you're doing it AFTER, then that's your problem. You SHOULD do the wipe cache, wipe Dalvik and factory reset after flashing though.

This is usually what I do when I flash a rom...
1. Wipe cache times 3
2. Wipe dalvick times 3
3. Factory reset times 3
4. Flash rom
5. Wipe cache
6. Wipe dalvick
7. Factory reset...
Thats my normal way I flash any rom even if the dev says just wipe caches. I dont never dirty flash...
Normally I dont format system because it should do that when you flash any rom if the updater script is wrote right. I just listed the things I tried so everyone would know and I thought well I tried everything else so I tried to format system just to see if it would work.
Im really starting to wonder if its the twrp Im using with the exfat support. Its not the official one on gooim its one a dev modded to work with exfat. And that would make sense but I cant flash from internal storage either but I can restore a nan backup from internal or external. ..

Okay then. I read "format system every time" so I was worried about that. I didn't notice that you have 1400+ posts, which implies that you have some experience.
Yes, trying a different recovery will help narrow down the problem (or fix it). Did you read through the status messages after flashing to make sure that everything looked okay?
Also, how long do you wait at the Samsung logo after flashing? Sometimes it takes a while (I think it took 10 minutes on my Tab 2 before - S3 is faster though).

Yea I have a little knowledge and usually dont ask questions cause normally i can figure it out on my own but this has me stumped.
I got no errors and twrp said flash successful every time. Wait time normally I give it 10 minutes but got aggravated last night and set the phone down and left there for 30 minutes or so and still stuck. And every rom ive tried has been a one known to boot with no problems. I read the threads to be sure.
Im gonna try flashing the twrp thru gooim when I get home just to see and if that dont work im gonna try cwm just to eliminate the recovery but I got a gut feeling its the recovery. I would like to get it fixed soon because im working on building a rom and cant flash it to test it.

Just to let everyone know in case anyone else ever has this issue I did finally flash a couple of roms. The only thing I can figure out is I was using rom manager to boot into recovery instead of the three button combo. Shortcuts never work when doing this kinda stuff and I should have known better
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
I use ROM Manager to boot into recovery all the time, never had any issues with it (I don't like mashing the keys too frequently, I ran into issues with a stuck power button a bunch of times on my S2 Skyrocket and I assume it was from doing button combos).
If you run into further issues I'd recommend backing everything up to a pc, then do a full wipe, then format your internal and external sd cards in cwm to get rid of any bad data that might be causing this, and then get into download mode and use Odin to go back to stock (has to be Odin of course since formatting the sd cards would remove any roms or backups saved there).
This has worked for me when I've had weird, unexplainable things going on. It's a pain in the butt, but can be worth it if it makes things work properly.
PS -- This was seanz's suggested method for dealing with strange issues on the sr, as I'm sure you recall.

What could be causing bootloops on AT&T SGS3?

Hello,
I am from the i9300 forum. My GF has a SGH-i747. When she updated it to official Jelly bean using Kies, all seemed to go well but then when she booted up to her home screen the phone would reboot. It would continuously do this over and over again.
So we had to use KIES to do a complete format of the phone and reboot it. This deleted everything and made it factory brand new again. This is that option where you have to type in your serial number into kies to do the emergency firmware recovery.
Well a few months went by and today while my GF was using her phone it froze and rebooted. It is now stuck in the bootloop. I don't understand why this is happening. She doesn't have the phone rooted nor has she flashed anything on it. I'm not familiar with the SGH-i747 so I'm not sure if this is a common bug that has been addressed for fixed.
Please help, my GF needs her phone for work and she's a few miles away from me. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Might've to get in recovery (hold vol up+home+power), clear cache, reboot.
If that doesn't work, back in recovery and factory reset, then reboot.

Yeah, I tried all that. I managed to back up her data so maybe we can restore her apps and information later. But this is similar to last time. I had her factory reset it, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, format system and format data.
We then followed by restoring her backup but the problem still persist. I might need to flash the stock ROM.
Could Fix Permissions fix the problem? It seems that the phone boots up to the home screen. While loading files, something at this point is causing it to bootloop. It will freeze after a few seconds and then reboot and repeat the problem.
Something is definitely conflicting within the first 30 seconds of booting up to the home screen. Any ideas?

Debloated stock ROM might be a good idea. When restoring, you might be bringing the problem right back. It should be very minimal (the needed stuff that you can't simply re-download or re-setup) to avoid issues coming back.

I edited my post above about fixing permissions.
But this is very similar to what happen last time. I had wiped factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvick, format data and system, installed fresh new ROM and that boot looped too.
It took KIES emergency firmware recovery (where you have to type in your serial number) to fix the problem, but everything was deleted even the internal SD card.

I doubt fixing permissions will change much but could try it.
From the way you describe it, it sounds like a app or some bad data. Is she using a external SD? If so, try booting without it. If not, my guess is that there's a rogue app or something corrupted her data.

Thanks. Yes she's using an external SD card. I will have to get a hold of her phone and see what's going on. The first time it happened was because we upgraded to Jellybean. it happened right after so I don't think it was a rogue app. This time she just pulled her phone out of her purse and noticed it boot looping. Something sounds wrong with her phone... I think we might need to send it back for warranty repair.
Okay I need help. I have discovered the problem and it is the SUPERUSER app. When Superuser was updated it caused my GFs phone a boot loop.
Now that I put fresh rom and cleared everything her phone was working. But the moment I rooted the phone itboddly didn't come with SU, so upon installing SU nothing could access SU for some odd reason. So I found out you need a SU for Jelly Bean, upon installing this version of SU is when everything went to he'll and the same boot loop came back.

What rooting method did you use to root your girlfriend's phone?
If I'm not wrong, most of the rooting method -- if not all -- for the SGH-i747 involve the SuperSU app instead of the Superuser app. And I believe most of the custom ROM, if you switched ROM, come with SuperSU pre-installed. If you try to install Superuser (without removing SuperSU), might that be the cause of your trouble?

Perhaps, I will try and fix the problem again. We just got back from a movie. Thank you.
if everything doesn't work
here's what you should do
first go look for AT&T 4.1.1 stock rom
download ODIN
go to recovery by vol up + power + home
clear cache, data and dalvik
flash stock rom thru odin.
that should fix soft brick
