About a month ago I decided I wanted to try out Synergy ROM for my EVO, so I went for God Mode and everything has been running fine...until now. I had installed a kernel earlier this week for underclocking and such, but decided today that I didn't really use it as much as I though so I decided to reflash the HTC stock 4.24. I just did that about 10 minutes ago, I made a backup in case something went wrong and I backed up all my apps/texts as well. It flashed, rebooted...then it got stuck in a boot loop. So I pulled the battery and booted up into the bootloader to go into recovery...when I found every time I hit recovery it would just restart to the bootloader. So I'm not really sure if there is anyway to restore my backup or any other way to boot into recovery. Am I just screwed? Or can I use ADB to boot into recovery/restore my backup? This is sort of my first question post so...If you need any more information just ask.
Thanks,
Suprgamr232
If your phone is still going into bootloops. Connect your phone to your computer and go to adb and type in adb reboot recovery. There you can revert back into a nandroid backup. Hope this helps
Not to be rude, but you didn't read the entire post did you? I can't access my recovery and AFAIK adb doesn't work while it's in a bootloop. Also, I don't think adb recognizes my device when it's in the bootloader either.
Hey im just trying to help, Maybe some how you lost your recovery? Maybe try reflashing your recovery from the bootloader, make sure it named pc36img.zip. See if you can access your recovery after that. What recovery are you using btw, clockworkmod or amon ra? and did you wipe your cache and dalvik cache files through recovery before you flashed your kernel?
If you can access your recovery after reflashing it, Try wiping those in recovery and rebooting, see if it boots into your rom. If not and you still get a boot loop but you can access recovery do a full wipe and reflash your rom or try restoring a nandroid
Not gonna argue with you, so I'll let it slide...I'm using clockworkmod and I did wipe my cache and dalvik cache. ATM I haven't been able to get a hold of a new recovery img for some reason...can never get it to download 100%, will try it soon hopefully.
There's no need to argue Ive heard that clockworkmod doesnt always completely wipe the cache and dalvik maybe try using amon ra this time around http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
Cant hurt to try it. hope you can get it working for ya, gl
Still stuck in the bootloop. I tried restoring but that didn't help. I tried reinstalling the ROM and the kernel I used before and no change, I don't really want to wipe my phone and try it but...I guess it might turn out that way. Before I do though I was wondering if there is anything else I should try?

You're gona have to do a full wipe [ factory/data, cache, and dalvik ] , reflash your rom, kernel, ect. Once you sign in, boot, ect, you can use titanium backup to restore your apps and data, NOT system settings.
Alrighty then. Did that and everything seems to be working fine...A little disappointed but as long as I have my phone! Thanks for your help!

Hey guys, was running the latest fresh when I decided to wipe via clockwork and try out DC, DC gave me bootloop at 4G screen, so I wiped via clockwork and tried again, same result.
I picked up the Amon Ra recovery and wiped and tried flashing via that, same result, tried again, same result so I figured I'd wipe it and flash back to Fresh, well now I've wiped using Amon Ra and tried to flash Fresh and I'm bootlooping as well.
Any idea's?
I'm entirely stumped.
Start over
Nand recovery then root again. Find a stable rom. There are tons that float to the top of the forum. I'm on Damage Control 3.5, works great.
Tried to Nand, It error's out and won't restore.
Like I said, DC 3.5 is what gave me the trouble to begin with, at least thats when my troubles started.
My phones gone completely unstable..and at the moment, unusable.
Also, be patient. After a flash, it may take a while for it to load. You seem overly anxious, by your post. I've flashed 30x and probably only bootlooped twice and those were Fresh's 3rd to last rom.
I let it sit there for 10 minutes saying fresh 1000x over a couple times, pretty sure I'm not being impatient.
battery is now dead.
Full wipe
Are you wiping everything? Dalvik wipe, user data wipe, cache wipe? Can you get back to recovery? How did you root?
Yes I can get into recovery, yes I'm wiping everything.
I used Simpleroot to get Root.
Rerun
I would try to re-run the second button in simple root to unlock nand. It doesn't hurt to re-run. You really shouldn't have a problem recovering nand if that process worked the first time. If you can't get that to run, you might want to adb it, but since you simplerooted your phone, you might have to read up on that. Once you take care of nandroid, you are good to go.
Nand is giving me an error that backup cannot be found <even tho I most definitely did Nand backup my stable setup> so IDK what fixing nand would do even if it is broken if it cant find the restore files. erm..
End of the Road
I suggest you do a forum search for more opinions/solutions. You are not the only one on here that has been through this. I did a quick search and found a handful of threads with this exact same topic.

How did you install a different recovery if your stuck in a boot loop? As for your problem, i had a bootloop before on freshz's older rom, and some of the solutions i had read werent working, i ended up booting into recovery, and rewiping without doing a reinstall of the rom, and it solved my problem, also have read that pulling the battery has gotten some people out of there loops. Hope this helps
I pulled the battery booted into recovery and wiped the rom, flash an alternate, booted up, changed to Amon and started over, was the one time I was able to get it to boot threw, after that same results.. I couldn't explain how it managed to boot up just one time either.
My phone is just rebooting to the Fresh boot animation over and over again. Here is what I've done.
I did a full wipe (3 times), cleared storage in recovery, wiped dalvik cache, pulled the battery, fastboot, wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset in recovery and nothing works. I'm using Clockwork Recovery v2.5.0.1 and I rooted via this method for mac:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-roms-hacks/17766-how-full-root-evo-4g-mac.html
I'm pretty sure half the **** I did was not necessary but I had to try something. Any ideas on what to do next?
Usually clearing cache/dalvik works... And you've wiped everything else... Have you checked the MD5 of your ZIP that you're flashing from? Or tried a different ROM?
Furthermore, have you just let the phone sit for a bit? The first boot after wiping cache can take quite a while.
EDIT: Also, did you do NAND unlock/eng hboot when you rooted?
I never did a nand backup. What would happen if I nand backup while having these problems? How do I check MD5?
I'm a bit confused at what you're trying to do here...but maybe this will help.
Factory reset/data wipe does not wipe your /system/ which is where most/all of the core files are stored for any ROM.
You could trying doing a logcat from adb to maybe get a better idea on what is causing the bootloop.
Or a broader approach would be to just flash Fresh again and it will overwrite anything in /system/ and whatever files, or lack thereof, that are causing the bootloop issue will be added/overwritten.
Well doing a Nandroid backup of a broken ROM won't do you any good.
As for MD5, you should be able to open adb shell, then use the "md5sum" command to get the MD5 of the file. For example:
Code:
adb shell
md5sum /sdcard/some_rom.zip
You can then compare the MD5 it outputs with the MD5 posted by the ROM maker. If they haven't posted an MD5, you might want to re-think about using that ROM, and the competence of its creator. For example, CM6 Nightly has the MD5 posted in a text file in the same directory as all the ROM zip files for flashing. Amon RA Recovery has the MD5 posted in the OP of the thread, etc.

What I'm trying to do is get my phone to work again. Here's what happened:
I downloaded this Rosie Clear Taskbar zip file that I found in the Themes section and flashed it. It looked horrible and was showing distorted so I figured I'll just reset my whole phone and get rid of it. Well it didn't work and it put me in a boot loop. I have no idea how to do a logcat and I'm pretty much new at this unless you post instructions I can adb with my mac. I need my phone today because it's my daughters birthday and people are going to be calling me left and right for details on the party. My phone just keeps rebooting at the Fresh boot. I can enter recovery just fine:
Is there a command I can do in adb while in recovery to make it ''safe boot''? How do I flash Fresh again?
Is re-flashing the ROM as easy as me taking the downloaded Fresh Rom.zip, placing it on my SD and flashing from recovery? I don't want to experiment and possibly mess everything up. Thanks.
It's that easy

Yes, it's that easy.
I'm not a big fan of how Clockwork wipes, I prefer Amon_RA, where you know you are wiping dalvik cache. Still if you are reinstalling Fresh 3.1.0.2 do a complete wipe.
Once you have your phone operating, immedaitley make a nand back up, or in Clockwork a nandriod. You can then always have a working base to go back to if something isn't playing nice.

When Clockwork wipes data it deletes the entire folder, which happens to contain the cache and dalvik folders. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
And OP, you might want to wait for Fresh 3.2. Just came out for donators today. I'm using it right now.
Apparently in my case it isn't as easy as flashing from the zip. I downloaded the ROM from geekme and put it on my SD card. Flashed it and even though it was successful I still get boot loop. Could it be because I accidentally did a nand backup of the problem?
What else could I do. I'm using Clockwork but is there a way to flash the other recovery through ADB even though my phone won't boot.
I can't take this to Sprint as it's rooted and showing the Fresh boot screen.
I had the same problem. Turns out I had the wrong kernel flashed from a previous rom. I had constant reboots, couldnt access my sd card, and the usb quit working. I had to ship it back to Asurion. Just got my new one back.
Bottom line:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT KERNEL BEFORE YOU FLASH A NEW ROM!!
SD Card
Do you have another memory card that you could use? Try putting a copy of a rooted stock ROM on it and try to install that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352
As others have mentioned clockwork does not always work well with Fresh, try Amon RA's recovery

The dalvik cache is under /data but the android cache has it's own partition.
Okay, so earlier today I rooted my evo and flashed the CM6 ROM. A little later I tried to install Google apps.
I followed a tutorial on youtube on how to install gapps using rom manager.
Now my Evo is stuck in the Clockworkmod recovery screen and when I click reboot system now it reboots and goes back to the clockworkmod screen. I tried wiping data/factory reset and then re-installing the CM6 ROM, it did not work.
I really need some help here, I'm not too experienced and I don't want to brick my Evo. How do i fix this?? I am freaking out. Thank you!
I use AmonRA recovery personally and flash everything through recovery. I had too many problems when I tried flashing things through Rom Manager app. Do you have a nandroid backup? If so install the backup and then boot into recovery and reinstall CM6 and gapps back to back in the same recovery session. If no backup, download PC36IMG that corresponds with your hboot version and put it on the root of your sd card. Boot into bootloader by holding volume down and power at the same time. It will scan the sd card for PC36IMG and then verify it. It will then ask you if you want to update. Select yes and let it do its thing and then when it asks if you want to reboot select yes. This will put you back to stock and may unroot, so you may have to do the root procedure again. Then install CM6 and gapps in same recovery session.
Before all this try wiping cache and davlick cache and reboot. If that doesn't work try powering off phone through clockwork and then boot into bootloader. It will scan for PC36IMG and not find it then you will have options to boot into different things. Select recovery, and it will boot into Clockwork. Wipe cache and davlick cache and reboot. See if this works. If not you will have to nandroid or go back to stock probably unless someone that has had this problem and comes along to help you fix it. Always wipe cache and davlick when installing something new like gapps or kernels and full wipe when installing a new Rom, unless you are updating a Rom then just Davlick and Cache.
As long as the phone turns on it is not bricked.

I did find the correct one for my hboot version, but another question I have is do I need to flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip since I rooted using unrevoked 3.32? Or do I just put the PC36IMG on the sd card and flash it? Thanks.
Okay, I seem to have gotten it back to stock. Thank god, thought I lost my evo for a minute! Thanks to those who helped me out, its 4:45 in the morning and now I can finally go to bed! ;]
LOL glad ya got it back.. Yeah thats where I was heading before I seen your post..Its 5:46 am and Im not sure how many Evo people are actually on at this time so...anyway nite
I stayed on to help as long as I could, but had to go to work. Sorry I couldn't be here to help with more questions. Funny I was just getting up for work and you guys were just going to bed.
Glad you got it fixed for now. Remember to flash CM6 from recovery and not Rom Manager. Also, flash Gapps from recovery and not Rom Manager app. Flash CM then gapps and reboot. Make sure you do a full wipe first though. You could also look for Calkulin's tools thread in Dev section of EVO forum and find his wipe all zip. You just flash it like any other zip but it formats data, cache, boot and system partitions so that when you flash a new ROM nothing is left over from old one. Good luck my friend and happy flashing.
PS. I don't think the stock rom would give you s-on since you already had s-off, so you should be good to go. I could be wrong, but as long as you still have a custom recovery and s-off you should be good to flash any Rom.
evo camera
ok i have a root evo but my camara dosent work ... can some body help me to fx that problem
What rom are you using? Do they list camera issues or camera not working in the initial post with the rom?

I cannot get past the bootanimation screen. This just happened this morning out of the blue. It's been rooted since Dec, and been running fine since. I can get to recovery, but it just reboots and hangs from there on it's own. I'm using AOKP MS2, and FrancoKernel, which probably doesn't matter, but I just need to get this at least back to stock. What do you guys suggest? I have done a battery pull, entered recovery through fastboot, but it just won't boot up.
Since you can access recovery, just restore a nandroid backup. That will get your phone up and running again.

If you have a nandroid then flash that, if not you will have to wipe cache, system, dalvik and data and flash the rom again.
That should solve your problems.
Maybe try just wiping cache, dalvik and system and leave data alone and flash the rom again. That way all your apps etc will still be there.
If you get bootloops after that then full wipe and flash.
Can aokp m4 be flashed via fastboot? Not sure this is possible , anyone ever fastboot a custom rom? Or push it with fastboot and then flash it in cwm?

SHG-T989 on TMO. I was running CM 9.0 but wanted to update to 9.1. NOW I CANT DO ANYTHING!!! Here is what I did:
1. Downloaded the CM9.1. 2. did a backup through CWM. 3. wiped data through CWM, "wipe data/factory reset. 4. wiped cache partition through CWM. 5. did a Darkside Super Wipe through "install zip from internal sd card" (last time installing CM9 i got stuck in the boot screen and had to go back using Darkside Super Wipe, reinstall CM9 and it worked fine). 6. Reboot to recovery. 7. installed CM9.1 through "install zip from sdcard". 8. installed gapps through "install zip from sdcard". 9. Reboot.
It came up and was stuck in the CM9 boot screen. So I went back in through CWM and tried to "wipe data/factory reset" and it wont work! Tried to go back to stock through Odin and it wont work! When i try to wipe data, the process starts and completes the "formatting /data, then gets stuck at formatting /cache. Does the same thing if I try to wipe the cache.
Im completely stuck and have no phone.
Which recovery version are you using? It might a corrupted recovery.
Try this recovery TWRP is cwm flashable:
SGH-T989_TWRP_v2.2.2.0.zip - 6.72 MB
Then TDJs super wipe and then install the stock ROM or any other ROM.

any updates to this? i'm having basically the exact same problem, formatting cache or anything to do with that partition freezes up on me.
using cwm 5.0.2.7 did a darkside super wipe, flashed on a JB rom (P.A.Cman), flashed gapps (20121011), wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, rebooted then got stuck on boot animation. rebooted back into cwm to try and wipe again and reinstall, no luck got stuck on formatting cache.
loaded up my nandroid which went fine, ended up installing twrp instead to see if that would help, rebooted into recovery and was stuck on the "teamwin" blue screen and wouldn't go further multiple times. so, put cwm back on (6.0.1.5) to see if the updated version would work. nope, same thing- can't do anything with the cache partition.
any ideas??
luckily my phone still works fine with the backup i made. running aokp ics build 40, streamline #27 kernel, uvle1 radio. been running that setup since july with no real problems, just wanted to try out JB finally and seems now i can't
any help is appreciated! thanks!

Ok, the wipe scripts in CWM recovery v5 are broken! Got experience there because I got stuck on the PACman ROM boot animation.
So, for factory reset, use Darkside Super Wipe. Install zip from sdcard and choose the wipe. From there, install rom, then gapps, and then use the Darkside Cache Wipe. After that reboot and it should work (hopefully)
However the most important thing is that the wipes don't work in CWM recovery v6! It will do bad things!
So yeah, use super wipe to factory reset. Use cache wipe for cache. But follow the instructions to install the ROM.

Similar problem, but cannot make zips to work - HELP NEEDED
HI,
I hope you guys can help me. My T989 got stucked in the splash screen when I tried to update to a nightly CM10 ROM. I entered into Recovery MOde (ClockworkMod 6.0.2.7), then tried to use Darkside Super Wipe... but apparently the phone cannot open zip files. When I hit install zip from sdcard and then select one of the zips (I have tried different ones) it says "---Installing: /sdcard/sgh-t989_darkside.supe.wipe.zip"... but it does not move from there. After 3-4 minutes it reboots by itself and gets back to the splash animation, but never goes beyond that point.
I tried to sideload using ADB, but the phone is not recognized by my PC.
As you said, I think that the recovery mode is corrupted... but I cannot install a new version using a zip
Is there another way to reinstall a version of CWM that allows me to install zips so that I can follow the process you suggested (super wipe + installing ROMS)?
Help will be very much appreciated
Thanks for your time,
Enrique

Do NOT use that darkside superwipes with CWM recovery v6.X.X.X. Does bad things.
Use the scripts only for CWM v5.X.X.X.
Anyway, the damage is done and bad things have happened... So maybe check here

Either that or you can search the forum and Google around and see what you can find. I am in by no means an expert, but depending if you can access the recovery mode or not might be the key here.

Even before posting I found and tried the method using Odin... but my phone is not recognized by Odin. I followed the instructions but on step 4 I actually do not get any "warning" screen... and then the phone is not recognized.
In the meantime, I can get into recovery, but I cannot install any zips. I have tried to complete a factory reset, but the process gets stuck at "Formating /cache..." and then reboots. When I try to install a zip (any zip, the radio, a new ROM, gapps,... any zip really) it gets stuck too.
Any other ideas? I really appreciate your help.

Do NOT use that darkside superwipes with CWM recovery v6.X.X.X. Does bad things.
Use the scripts only for CWM v5.X.X.X.
Anyway, the damage is done and bad things have happened... So maybe check here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359
Either that or you can search the forum and Google around and see what you can find. I am in by no means an expert, but depending if you can access the recovery mode or not might be the key here.
I wish you luck, and hope that you don't have a very expensive brick.

The only other possible option I can think is to try and install another recovery....
However!
I have no clue how to do it, and in the end you might just end up making the issue worse.... Like hard brick it.
I might think of something later, but I don't know what else I can do for you. I will search around, but no promises...
Best of luck to you

Ok try here possibly

I have seen a few posts saying that they just install this recovery and then restore a backup.
Ok to be honest, try restoring a backup first and see if anything happens there, and then try this thread.
However like before, this may make the problem worse! Proceed with caution and read and understand everything before attempting.
Hope you can get your phone back to functional!

samsung jig
Thanks again for the answer. A couple of days ago I tried to install a functional backup that I had from CWM... but it does not work It runs for a long while, then reboots... but it still freezes on the splash screen (my theory is that the backup is not recovered, as I know for sure that the ROM I backed up did work fine)... I think that CWM is corrupted and not working properly.
Then I tried the solution from the thread you mentioned... but adb cannot find the phone when it is connected
I found somewhere that I can use a samsung jig (microUSB with a resistance) to make the phone enter into download mode, then reinstall CWM using ODIN and then try flashing a stable ROM... What do you guys think?

I've heard about the jig method as well, but have no idea on how to go about doing it. Might be worth a shot. I don't think the jig costs that much anyway. I will see if I can find anything later.
