So I come from Evo lineage and am excited to join the Nexus family but no micro SD is very new to me. I'm rooted and want to start flashing some jelly bean but wouldn't the roms and mod delete when I wipe data/factory reset?

Nope. Custom recoveries preserve /data/media. Anything you have on your virtual sd will stay. The only thing that will wipe it is when you unlock your bootloader.

Ok, I lied. I thought that was enough info to do some reading and figure out what to do but I can't figure out how to make a virtual sd.
Its there by default.

Huh? You don't "make" anything. In a custom recovery on the Galaxy Nexus, a "wipe" does not delete your /sdcard/ directory by default. Theres nothing special about it.
ok, I was just looking for it when connected by usb all I saw was internal storage. I got it now thanks

So I've been doing the whole ICS thing. And it's been fun. But I'm looking to go back to stability for now.
Also I purchased this phone second hand and it's always had remnants of the old owners files floating around on it.
So my question is. What is the best way to wipe the phone to a clean slate (obviously leaving my SD card in tact)?
Secondly, is there anything I have to do if I go from ICS to TDJ's 2.6?
Thanks for the help.

That doesn't do it. I've dark side wiped over 100 times.
Then I flash and still have old pictures and old program folders. That is not what I'm asking for.

So assuming it's the internal SD, what is the best route to clean that?
I'm basically looking for a total clean wipe.

If you want a total wipe best way is to do this in recovery.
Go to mounts and storage
Format/data
Format /system
Format /cache
Format /emmc
DO NOT FORMAT SD CARD
Then flash the darkside super wipe followed by flashing the rom of your choice. Just remember to back up anything you don't want to lose from your internal memory and to have the superwipe file and rom you want to flash on your SD card.

I suggest u first connect ur phone to computer and mount USB storage. Copy off all files that u may need from both internal and external, then right click and format both as fat32. Then reboot into cwm and dark side wipe, and flash whichever rom u like.

Yep just do that and the phone will be all clean. I always do it that way when I'm jumping from different roms and when I just get an itch to wipe the phone clean but I always backup my titanium bu folder to either my desktop or SD card so I can transfer it back when I'm done and restore my apps

No. I've tried four different ones and I have to load the nandroid i made on all of them to restore it. When I try to install amon instead of supersonic it says current version is newer. I dont know exactly what I have to do but this is the first time I haven't been able to get it. Argh. Whatcha thinkin?
Is your Secure Digital Card partitioned? Keep in mind that some of the ICS Roms for the OG have A2SD baked in and if you're not partitioned it may cause for you not to get past the startup. Try this one from MazdaRider and be sure to wipe everything EXCEPT for your SD card and see if it works for you. Now if you do have your SD card partitioned wipe EVERYTHING DOWN and once again with the exception of your SD card and reflash your ICS Rom.

Hello guys, please go easy on me with this question. So I'm switching over to Verizon and was pretty set on getting the nexus. I currently have the gs2 with T-Mobile and am an avid flasher. My only concern now is since the nexus doesn't have an SD card, when you flash a new ROM how do you back up all your stuff without losing all of it when you wipe? Is it possible to do it all through the phone without copying the files to a computer? Thanks a lot. Really looking forward to joining the nexus side of the xda community!

Just FYI, really...but I thought I'd throw it out there.
The newer recoveries do have an option to wipe the SD card.
Just...don't touch that?
Haha.
And the STOCK recovery does wipe the SD card when you do a "factory reset."
All of the custom recoveries wipe /data/ but ignore /data/media/ which is where your virtual SDcard is located...so you lost nothing that was on your "Sdcard."
Point me in the right direction please

You need to partition the SD Card if the Rom is A2SD enabled, and you want to use it. Yes it should be done before you flash the Rom. You should also find out what type of partition. Does the the Rom call for an ext.3 , or ext4 partition. If you are going to partition your SD Card you need to make a backup on the PC first. Partitioning the SD Card will wipe the card clean.

Not all Roms will work. If the Rom is built so that a2sd is enabled automatically, it will not work correctly. Things will be missing. You can have FC issues. In some cases I've had them not even Boot. So it is better to have the SD Card partitioned before you Flash if the ROM calls for it.

Hey guys, noob here. I am going to be flashing my phone today too.
Death by soaps mod seems to be what I am looking for, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything right.
I have turned s-off with revolutionary and backed up everything with both clockworkmod and smelkusmod and saved everything on my computer.
I am not 100% sure how to continue with partitioning and flashing though. Do you have a recommended guide partitioning and flashing with your mod? I have found some general guides, but they are for other mods and I dont want to screw anything up.

Ok. Simple.
1. Move everything on your sd card to your comp.
2. Use smelkusmod as its the best.
3. Go to partition card or something to that extent.
4. Set your desired size, 1 or 2 gigs is good enough, depending on how many apps you have/use.
5. Set swap to 0
6. Wait for it to partition.
7. Upgrade ext from 2 to 3 to 4.
8. Put all your stuff back on the sd card.
Flashing
1. Use format all/superwipe option in wipe menu of smelkus to wipe.
2. Go to flash zip or something like that.
3. Select the file and confirm.
4. Wait for it to do its thing then reboot.
Done!

If I want to mess around with any other mods is there anything special I should do first? Or just repeat the same steps (partition, superwiper, flash)?

Nope no need to partition again. That's done. Also you dont need to wipe for mods unless the OP states it.
For Roms, however,(what you just flashed) always do a full wipe/ superwipe and if going between versions of sense and aosp, always wipe the sd ext.
For kernels always wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing.

If you are using TWRP, sideload a ROM to it and flash that. I think even from CWM you can adb push a ROM to your internal memory. If all else fails, reboot to download mode and ODIN back to stock.

Odin'ing a stock image/package may be a littler easier for me, im a complete novice when it comes to ADB..etc
Well I was able to what I think successfully use Odin to flash stock firmware. The only thing I question is that, I still have all of my pictures that were stored on the phones internal memory.
In stock 3e recovery I also have more options rather then just wipe/factory reset and clear cache....
You really should Google how to use adb, there are some great tutorials from XDA. Everyone is a nub at first. Lol.
Flashing stock doesn't wipe the internal memory, it just does the normal wipes and formats system.
