Any recommendations for a FAST 32GB microSD? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to everyone.
My Play came with an 8-GB card which, as I found out, tends to run out of space quite soon. Hess than half an hour - in total - of HD video is enough to fill it up.
Thus I'm looking for a 32-GB one. But I would also like it to be a class 10, as it should have far better read/write times than the original class 4.
I found one in Amazon, supposedly made by Samsung, but after having a look at the comments, I concluded it's a scam (not a real 10-class).
So, could you recommend something that fits my needs? Thanks in advance.

I recommend a Class 6 microsd instead. Why? A Class 10 card may have a better read/write speed than a Class 6 one but reaction time is also important. The class 10 cards usually have a higher reaction time. You will notice THAT in games in form of lags when it is loading a level or when playing. Also, performance in Launcher/App Drawer is slightly worse. When copying files from or to the microsd card Class 10 cards only perform better when these files are large in size. When you copy a lot of files with small sizes the performance will be bad.
So, use Class 6 cards. And beware of no name cards or cards from Ebay since they´re not reliable. I had a micro sd Class 10 from Komputerbay and god that one was a nightmare. Bad performance, files corrupted or the whole card erased itself.
Then I bought the San Disk micro sdxc 64gb class 6 card and it was like a dream. The performance is really good, almost like a Class 10 card one and important :reliable!:silly: It costs 80 Euros in Germany, but it´s worth the money. It works without any flaws in the Xperia Play. Just make sure you format it with FAT32. Search for a format tool on the web.

Okay, so class 10 means better speed when recording or transferring HD video or large files, but worse for every other use.
And class 6 is better for smaller files and games - did I get that right?
I can already shoot high definition video smoothly with my 4-class card, so the change of card type may improve performance only in games.
Since I'm using my Play for gaming too, it would make sense to opt for a class 6.
But the 64-GB Sandisk comes with a hefty price tag, too much money just for increased memory in a mobile phone.
So, I should seek a 32 GB, 6-class card.
Any other opinions?

I'm looking at this. I wanted to purchase this for a while, would this do?

I bought a Samsung 32GB Class 10 Micro SD HC after some research and it works perfectly in all the uses I've had for it.
No lag with gaming. HD video records with no frame loss. Mounts much faster than the generic sd card that came with the phone.
Class 10 being more laggy in certain scenarios is a specious argument. It may have been true a year or so ago but with any decent card made more recently, the argument no longer holds true.
Basic guidelines to follow:
- Check the card spec for read/write speed of different file sizes.
- Always buy from a reputable seller. Either directly from Amazon or play (not 3rd party sellers) to ensure you get the genuine article. Avoid eBay. Its riddled with fakes.

Tests taken with my in-use sd card, connected through USB storage mode on xperia play.
Would potentially get even better results if the card was formatted and connected through sd adaptor.
As the results show, not only is it good at reading/writing large files, necessary for hd video recording. But also has good random read/write speeds, more than sufficient for smartphone operation, certainly won't cause lag and beats some class 4-6 cards results in this respect.
Other speedtests taken with the same card can be found here and here.

I am using 16 GB class 10 SD card in my xperia play and the same is not working properly, I have sut down quite few time before it detects SD card

32gb micro sdhc
I suggest that you try Ridata 32gb class 10.
Try reading some reviews about it.
I apologize as a new member I am restricted to post the store link.
Based on my experience it is fast I can also play games without any problem. You will still experience mini-lags some time but it's considerable. :victory:

[Q] Class 10 microSDHC with same write performance stats as a class 4 card?

I recently bought a genuine class 10 Kingston 16GB microSDHC card to replace my class 4 Kingston 16GB microSDHC for my HTC Desire GSM. I have a freshly installed LeeDroid v2.4.1 ROM with S-Off. I did a full wipe/factory reset/format before installing LeeDroid. I created a 15GB FAT32 partition and a 1GB EXT3 partition on both cards for using A2SD+. After comparing both cards (while in my HTC Desire) with 2 benchmark apps from the Market, AnTutu System Benchmark and SD Tools, I'm having some problems.
The problem is that the write performance is almost the same on both the microSDHC cards, around +/- 5 MB/sec. Installing the SD Speed Boost app didn't help in improving the write performance. According to the microSDHC specification I should have at least around +/- 10MB/sec write performance with a class 10 microSDHC card.
I searched a bit here on XDA, and I'm reading some conflicting things. Some say that the HTC Desire supports only up to class 6 microSDHC cards, while others say that the brand new class 10 card they bought on eBay gave them a massive performance boost with max write performance. Also I'm reading that having multiple partitions on a microSDHC card has a negative impact on write performance. Is this true?
Anybody have any suggestions or ideas?
Hello
I have no idea and no suggestions sorry , and I agree with you, everything is strange with writing speed. I think that the "class" is bull**** from my point of view.
Just see my "class 4" card tested with SD tools:

I have a S-ON Desire with Oxygen 2.0.3, and "class 4" 8Go card with a first Fat32 partition (=6.5GGo) and a second partition Ext4 (1Go) ...
I have a class 10 too... but I think Desire's SD handler is the real bottleneck. Did you try and test your SDs on a USB2.0 card reader attached to your computer? You should see the difference among the two.
I just testes my SD performance with SD Tools and I got 8MBs write and 23.5MBs read with a class 2 card. People tend to say that class 6 is better than class 10, in most cases anyway.

wierd isnt it?
16mb writing speed and 8mb reading speed ... thats class 4 kingston card.
not rooted,
Writing speed > reading speed ????
Kingston 4gb class 4 gives me over 8mbps write. ;-) better than Samsung plus class 6.
Also, after some testing I came to conclusion that smaller the size, the faster it is.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
probably, my card is 4gb btw if you were wondering why i had such high writing and reading speed
I recently bought an USB 2.0 card reader from Sitecom, but that one broke down on me before I could test the microSDHC cards. The first few days it worked fine, but now it won't recognize any cards anymore...
The results you guys posted really surprised me, such wide variation in performance. Yesterday I called HTC Netherlands and asked them if there are any limitations or restrictions on the HTC Desire regarding the max supported class cards. They couldn't give me an answer straight away (they said I was the first person to ask this question... ), but they are going to do some research regarding this and report back to me. As soon as I get an answer I will post it here.
For now I'm at a loss. The smaller the card the faster it's speed under the same class sounds logical. Also I'm thinking that certain brands might be more compatible or incompatible with the HTC Desire. After researching it some more, I came across some information about people saying that Kingston isn't the best brand to choose for the HTC Desire.
For those who are curious..... HTC Netherlands called me back, after some research at there end they could tell me that the HTC Desire supports up to class 6 microSDHC cards. They also mentioned that some brands are better then other brands when used in there smartphones, although they didn't provide any specific brands.

Help me find a good microsd card?

Hello Let me get staight to the point....So after 3 months of owning my s2 I just realised that the sd card in it was a 8gb class 2 micro sd card. And that just won't do! So I've been scouring the internet for some kind of a good sd card. Of course I want the best for the best right? So I've been trying to find a 16GB class 10. But I don't want to pay too much money for it.
So I've found this sd card:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0054KHY8C/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i2?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1Y1NVT4GBQ6KCPJC1XEG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
And this one:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00698ZUHK/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_g147_i7?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1Y1NVT4GBQ6KCPJC1XEG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=468294
So can anyone help me choose a right one? and maybe provide some links? I would really be glad if it was on amazon.co.uk only
Thanks a lot
i don't think that a class 10 card will be that much different from class 6 card for use with the SGS2.
you better stick with SanDisk Or Samsung cards , even if they are a little expensive but they are good quality.
Good supplier good brand name is all i would bother with . Been running a no name class 2 16Gb for months no problems . But it would have been a own brand product from one of the big outlets probably Amazon .
jje
Class 4 is fast enough I think. Using a sandisk 32gb class 4 with no issues at all regarding read/write speed.
Here's my 8gb integral ultima pro class 10, its pretty fast.

Stick with sandisk or transcend and you won't go wrong. In terms of class, i don't think it will make that big of a difference on your phone. Just stick above class 4 and you should be fine.
Hey
I got one of these. its a great cards for the money and its from a trustable source as there are many fakes out there

I would never buy anything other than sandisk. Got countless ones knocking around in various sizes and classes, been trodden on, dropped in water, in and out of different phones, into readers upside down and back to front and never an ounce of problems. Rock solid.
I can just confirm that, tried with others but finally I have always bought sandisk. Now the only other card is 8GB which I get in Nokia 5800 sales pack.

I bought http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/...s/MB-MSBGA/EU?subsubtype=micro-sd-accessories and I'm pretty satisfied with it. I had crazy luck with the store which was selling it under the real price and bought it for only ~25 euros. Two days later (and ~20 more sold microsd cards to all my friends) they corrected the price.
Anyways, being class 10, this card is awesome. Read speeds are very high, and I don't see any difference between the internal memory and this card either, although I haven't done any real tests, just the everyday usage.
Also, I have huge amount of it filled with music and pictures, and the phone seems to cope with it just fine, so I give you full recommendation for this one.
PS: It came with two year warranty, even here in Serbia!
Always buy Sandisk Also I think the class difference is only apparently when taking HD videos to prevent stuttering when recording.

The class rating of your micro SD card generally defines how quickly information can be read from or written to the card.
If you’re recording a lot of high-definition videos and snapping high-megapixel shots, Class 6 and above is enough.Higher number will ensure that your device won’t slow down between shots.

SD Card Opinions

So now that my card is corrupted, I've narrowed down my options to two cards. I don't need 64 GB, but I do need speed. I transfer a large amount of files, so Class 10 is a must. 32 GB is perfect.
A Samsung 32 GB Class 10 microSDHC card, found here. Perks are waterproof, shock-proof and magnet-proof. Or says it is, according to the Samsung site.
A SanDisk 32 GB UHS Class 1 microSDHC card, found here. Perks is the fact that it is UHS.
Seeing as how I have not bought high-quality cards in the past, opinions are welcome!
Sad owner of a bricked Evo, but the Samsung Moment forum is filled with crickets....
I say go with Sandisk. Never tried a samsung memory card but Sandisk hasnt let me down yet.

Either maker will be a good choice but what you want to mainly look at is the CLASS number.
A class 1 card will have a sustained max speed of 1Mb with is agonizingly slow and by default the Class 10 will be 10MB.
Samsung, Kingston, Patriot, Sandisk, Crucial are all decent makers of SDcards but be sure you get the speed also.

I believe I understand the class system. The main reason behind me asking is because of UHS - supposed to be faster than Class 10.
I've always used smaller-capacity, slower cards because they are oftten scattered around the house, but it is about time for an upgrade. Haven't heard of UHS so I figured I would ask around.

DO NOT count on a a class 10 card giving you 10Mbs transfer speeds. I bought a class 10 PNY and get very inconsistent speeds(using sd speed test). i get anywhere between 6.5 and 8 Mbs, usually around 7.6Mbs. you may want to test some different ones or post in Q & A and see what results others are getting with different cards. No sense in buying a class 10 if class 6 wil yield the same results.
of course my read speeds are around 31Mbs, but it seems write speeds suffer greatly on these phones.

With ANY type of benchmark system you will get results all over the place. I can tell you on my Patriot 16gig class 10 in the real world of transferring files to and from my phone a consistent 10mb+ is the norm.
This is like those who base a ROM's quality and speed on Quadrant. That has to be the worst bench app I have ever seen and the results mean NOTHING in the real world on how a phone or ROM will perform.
class 4 32gb here. very happy with the results. running a2sd with dalvic and data to sd and runs smooth here are some of my test results

go for the class 10 one
Looked more into UHS. UHS-1 has a theoretical speed of 50 MB/s. Blows away Class 10's speed of 10 MB/s.
I would suggest looking up UHS cards. Among other sites, I used Wikipedia.http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#section_3

I wonder if for recording video, a cheap class 3 will do?
The best sd cards to get are 32GB class 10's,most systems will support 32GB beter than 64GB.
I buy the random read write Class 6 vs Class 10 argument when speaking of mediocre quality cards.
Class 6 32GB.
i wouldn't worry about UHS cards as they require a different voltage to achieve that speed. the evo isn't capable of the higher voltage, causing them to fall back to a standard class 10 rating. within the class rating system, it'll still vary, my class 4 beats out my class 10 in both reads and writes. san disk cards have definitely lasted me longer in overall life, samsung has also been very good to me. bad experience with lexar and a-data.

I went ahead and ordered this one. I had a $25 Best Buy gift card that I was waiting to use, so with tax this card was only $29!
My current card gets 8.9 MB/s Write and 20.8 MB/s Read. If this new card doesn't match those numbers, I'll just Ebay this thing and make a bit on it and keep my current card. If this new card is faster, it'll pair quite nicely with my 32Gb Blue SG3 that I ordered! Thumbs up to the Op, thanks!

Prove it.
i think its in reference to the class 6, I dont understand it myself but the card boasts up to 30 megs, but then calls itself class 6. Reading on Sandisk's website it says that the "class" rating is "worst case" scenario. The Class 6 seems to be geared for specs on video data while the 30 megs a sec spec talks about picture data.
could anyone clear up the info? ty
The SGS3 supports exFat, the recommended format to get the maximum speeds from these cards.
Other phones using this card were or are formatted as Fat32 which are not the correct format to take full advantage of this cards perks.

that is supposed to be uhs-i capable and the 30mb/s it's advertising is for the read speed. that's just strategy for companies, because they know not everyone sees the * and then reads the fine print for its description.
and as it says in sandisk's website the write speed is slower, that's where the class rating comes in it will write at speeds it is rated.
30mb/s read speed is achievable if the gadget reading the card is also uhs-i compliant.
the class ratings shows that their cards will reach it's class rating's read and write speed.knowing sandisk their speeds usually exceed their class rating's speed. class 6 will read and write at least 6MB/s, class 10 will read and write at least 10MB/s

according to that only the 4gb is class 6.
8gb and up are all class 10.
btw, op's pic is different from sandisk's website.
this is his:

this is the official sandisk's:
it doesn't have the 1 that is enclosed, which is UHS Speed Class 1 (U1)
I was reading this
http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1996/kw/class
and it talks about
Rated Speed (e.g. 15MB/s, 30MB/s, etc.) is maximum speed of the card and also what you would expect to approximately see in typical usage of writing or reading files on the card. This measurement is pertinent to still photography, especially for taking pictures with high resolution and/or saving in RAW format where the files created are very large.
and
Speed Class is a minimum speed based on a worst case scenario test. The Speed Class is important for video mode or camcorders, where the device is actually saving a steady stream of data.
It definitely is worded weird, maybe to confuse but it kind of sounds like 30MB/s is what you "could" see under optimal conditions where the device supports such speeds too. But, what do i know.

theres nothing to prove its listed on sandisk website and everywhere amazon
up to 30 mb/s read (reviewers get around 18mb read)
up to 30 mb/s write (reviewers get around 8mbs write)
I got one of these about 1 1/2 months ago when they were on sale, packaging said class 6.

Looking for a MicroSD card, SanDisk / Samsung UHS-I?

Hi,
So I'm finally out of space and I need a 32GB microSD card. I'm going to use it for storing photos/videos (directly written on the card) and music, and I'm also going to use it as a USB storage. I've been looking around the forums and found this Sandisk UHS-I card:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221067563602
Question is, does GS2 support UHS-I cards? Is UHS-I compatible with the device? If it is, will it work at maximum speed or will the device treat it as a class 10 card? I'm concerned my GS2 won't be able to work well with the UHS-I card because of incompatibility. Should I just get a regular Class 10 card instead?
Thanks!
Your fine but you missed the deal, yesterday Best Buy had it on sale for $20 and you didn't have deal with shipping
I just looked it up on Best Buy, they sell it for $70 now, isn't it a bit strange that I found it on eBay for only $27? The eBay seller got quite a lot of positive feedbacks and looks pretty reliable. I hope it's just Best Buy overpricing the item.
I still need an answer for my most important question: Does GS2 support UHS-I cards? Is this UHS-I card fully compatible with the device?
Thanks again.

It´s a chinese Fake
Maybe it´s a very poor quality microsd card
The Galaxy S2 has problems with UHS-I cards. Go with a Class 6 32GB card; they're more reliable.

What sort of problems? My S2 on LS8 JB only wrote to the card (UHS-1 64GB) at 6-8 MB/s making me think the card was defective but on LSJ it writes at 9-12 MB/s. ALso when performing tests my cpu usage is very high so I would recommend not underclocking during tests and maybe locking cpu with performance governor. Anyway I just wanted to share my experience of also being sceptical but now happy
i have a uhs-1 card in my s2 without any problems
I have a SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I 64GB, EU model SDSDQU-064G-U46A.

I've looked around the web and found some bad reviews on the SanDisk card (mainly unreliable card, dying in few months), so I looked instead for a Samsung one with great reviews, which seems a bit more reliable:

What do you guys think?
Not had any problems with my Sandisk 64GB UHS-1 card.

UHS-I cards are backwards compatible AFAIK, so they are probably operating at slower speeds than they would in a native UHS device.
Bought a Samsung 32GB Class 10 UHS-1 card from MyMemory for 21 pounds (=$33). Preferred to pay extra ~$7 to a reliable store and not waste my time and money on fake chink ones at eBay.
I'll let you know the details once I get it ^.^
what read/write speed you achieve?
Got the card today - exactly 10 days after I ordered ^.^ It's this card: http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDHC/Samsung/Samsung-32GB-Micro-SDHC-Plus-up-to-48MB_s-Class-10
Pretty good results from what I've seen around.
Tested on I9100T 16GB with Omega ROM V16.2 (XXLSJ), whilst a few phone calls and endless WhatsApp messaging (in case any of it affects the results), Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit with WDC Green 500GB 5400RPM HDD.
What do you guys think?
Hello, i need help please.
I have Samsung Galaxy S4 (i9505) with Android 4.2.2 and only 16GB of memory.
Which microSD card you people recomend me to buy?
1. SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB (read 95MB/s and write 90MB/s); SDSDQXP-016G
2. Samsung MicroSDHC Pro 16GB (read 70MB/s and write 20MB/s); MB-MGBGB
3. Toshiba Exceria Ultra High Speed Class 10, UHS-I Typ HD (read 95MB/s and write 30MB/s)
Which one is better?
Will i get this speed results on my phone when i will make a speed test of rear/write on microSD card or this results are not true?
Or will be the same if i buy SanDisk Ultra C10 (read 30MB/s and write 10MB/s) becouse of limitation on my device? Could Galaxy S4 do more that 10MB/s write?
I would like have a very fast microSD for recording my video in FULL HD without any lag.
Last year i had Galaxy S3 with SanDisk Ultra C10 and when i was recording, the video "sticking"

There are a LOT of fake cards floating around. You need to be extremely careful about your sources.
If a card looks unbelievably cheap, it probably is, but that doesn't mean that ones at normal price aren't fake either.
Take a look at http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?page_id=1022 for some background from a few years back.
