Potential [BUG] regarding MMS on the new ICS update. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Ok I brought this up on the discussion but I'm hoping this will garner more attention. I did the manual update for the ICS OTA and I noticed this bug. When trying to send a MMS message, it gets stuck on "sending". I'm not sure if there's an issue with receiving a message but I'm testing that right now. Text messages send and receive like normal. Also I wanted to point this out that I have not had this issue with any previous ICS roms including the FF18 leaks. Network Vision is currently being done in my neighborhood but right now I have excellent speeds and signal, usually when they work on the towers I roam.
Can anybody else test this out?

I had this issue on the final leak last week or so. Wouldn't send for anything. Text was fine

Discussion thread is talking about this a little more but seems it may be a network issue and not a s/w issue. Know the area I'm in is under NV work at the moment so it is in the realm of possibility.

I had problems sending on the FF18 leaks too. It affected both MMS and SMS on a couple different roms. Couldn't figure out how to fix it so I'm on an older leak now that I didn't have any problems with.

I thought I had the same issue, but my mms went thru after about 5 minutes each time.

What about MMS going to the top of the conversation instead of staying at the bottom like all recent/new messages? Has anyone had that issue?

I've had text messages hang at sending and failed many times on many ROMs. I've noticed that if I try sending a text over 160 characters it hangs and fails. I have taken the same text and split it into more than one message and they go thru. since using the option in the messenger app to automatically split messages containing more than 160 characters, I've had no issues sending.

I have seen this happen in the past as well. All texts stack in sequence unless you receive a picture or something. The picture is located at the beginning of that conversation.
I haven't figured out what causes that, but I haven't had that happen in a long time now. I had this issue the most while using handcent instead of the native messenger app.
I now use the native messenger app and have no other SMS apps installed, and haven't had this issue since adopting this new policy.

The bug that i have isn't with the mms, but whenever i try to uninstall an app, through APP info, it just hangs there, In GB most of the apps that im removing from FF18 now just takes waaay to long, and it just looks like its frozen, is this normal with ICS?.. or is this a bug?
only mod's i've done is DPI 160 and memory stick speed 2048 with RoomToolBox, and Titanium back up for the rest of the apps.

I've had this issue prior to update. I've been told by sprint it is a network/ google voice issue

If it's a system app, it may not uninstall on the FF18 ROM. I have had this happen using titanium to uninstall data apps too. When it happens I close out titanium and reopen it and it instantly uninstalls the apps I choose to in that session.

well its the Preloaded Nova 2 HD a system app? because i gives me the option to uninstall it from the applications menu withing the rom, and i was using titaniumbackup as my second tool, since regular uninstalling was functioning the way that i was mentioning.

That's odd... been uninstalling bloat to stock via TB on every ICS build, inc. FF18 and no problems here. But I do backup most apps first before removing.

Yes, Nova 2HD is a system app and FF18 build removed the ability to uninstall them from the application menu.

I also have been using TB on every GB and ICS and haven't had an issue with it. But i put it out there because I have read on other threads people complaining that they couldn't uninstall certain apps after FF18 update even using TB. I personally haven't experienced this on my phone.

Ya know it might not be a bad idea for people to start posting their location on the network too actually see if the network might be to blame. I'm in central Massachusetts and have been running these leaks since FF02 and never had any problems sending or receiving mms on 3g or WiFi. Can't say for 4g because it's not available here.

Why is Go SMS working for everyone except me?

Go SMS has always been my SMS and MMS app of choice, and it always worked flawlessly for me; that is until I began using Jelly Bean ROMs. For the most part, it still works, but there has been one REALLY annoying issue that I can't seem to figure out. No matter what notification ringtone I set for a particular contact, that's not the one that plays when I do a test notification or when that person texts me. Is this an issue with my settings or with incomplete compatibility with Jelly Bean? I solved the problem by using Handcent, but I'd much rather be using Go SMS! Any help would really be appreciated!

Maybe because it hasn't been updated to be fully compatible with JB?

It works fine for me on jelly bean.
I have a related question. I want to use go SMS but it runs a constant service. Anyone know why? Is it possible to not have it run as a service? Drives me nuts.

Saving mms

Is there any way to get the stock messaging app to automatically change the file name when saving an mms? It promts me every time telling me to rename it or else it will overwrite the last one... Not the end of the world, but incredibly irritating.

No idea, but if you just want a convenient backup of your texts, this one seems them to your gmail. They'll be threaded weird and out of order, but easily searchable.
Oops, I can't post links yet. It's called SMS Backup+, available on the play market.

I have the same problem, you can continue naming each individual picture with numbers you just randomly think of, its rare I repeated the same number. Or download a third party app like Handscent or Go SMS which just downloads the MMS without worrying about a particular designation. Every once in awhile you run across a Touchwiz rom that doesn't have this problem, but its usually a ASOP rom that just downloads MMS without this problem.

That's about what I figured. I used to use handcent but the stock app has made leaps and bounds over the years so I like sticking with that. I've been doing the random letters after going to save it, but in you ef up and do by chance pick something you already used, it will overwrite it.

Any update or solution to this issue? From what I remember my Samsung Epic 4G did not have this problem, as a matter of fact it did exactly what we are trying to get the Galaxy S3 to do by default. I find that this should have not been an issue, why on earth would someone NOT think to make this a basic function/feature?....

[Q] messaging bugs/issues

Got my one the day after release day from Verizon. I've been noticing a couple little bugs going on with the messaging app and want to see if anyone else is having the issues. Friend of mine has the phone to and he seems to be issue free.
The first issue is when hanging up a call, I often get a " unfortunately messages has stopped". No idea what's causing it but it's happening Pretty frequently.
The second one is hard to explain but I'll do my best. A few times while messaging multiple people individually, it some how puts the full message that I just sent right back into the text field. Almost like I never sent it but I did. Ends up saving the message as a draft so I have to erase it. I haven't figured out the exact steps to make this happen but if I do, I'll post it here.
Anyone else having these weird issues?

[Q] Unfortunately, contacts has stopped working

Hi,
I have a rooted s4 running 4.2.2. I have not frozen any thing or uninstalled since rooting. I have it for the purpose of titanium backup, greenify, and root explorer.. And to increase my knowledge of smartphone technology.
There is a problem ever since I change my number through T-Mobile the other day. I go into batch select mode for multiple email or SMS and every time I do it on my contacts screen or my message screen it freezes and brings me to my home screen with the error message "unfortunately, contacts has stopped working".
I have researched this topic and have pulled my battery out for 40minutes and turned back on. Cleared cache on messages and tried to find a work around. (Originally my problem was discovered from messages going into batch select contacts mode. So I tried to batch select contact for SMS and email through contacts option itself.. Same problem). It doesn't sound like messages is the problem..
Has anyone had this problem and if so can you share.
Thank you,

Try this:
Go into settings>more and click on "Application Manager" then scroll to the "All" tab
and find contacts and click on it and clear data & cache.
Then click the back button and you will see contact storage, clear data & cache on it too.
Once your done reboot the phone and see if it still errors out for you.
Good luck!
Still no dice..
I believe it is a problem with contacts not messaging

Yeah, unfortunately, I concur. I also was planning for this to be a more unified client than it is. Instead of merging the hangouts and SMS threads it keeps them separate. I was expecting it to be like the iMessage client for iOS: Data message unless the recipient doesn't have the app or you have no data connection, SMS for the rest

Come on folks, obviously the new Google apps are making use of the API's in 4.4 that aren't going to work properly on 4.3. This is the reason even something like Maps has different current versions floating around depending what you're running. There's going to be bugs just side loading this from a system image especially for a new app like hangouts that's now being deeply integrated into the system in 4.4.

I'm sure we're all quite aware of that. Thank you for pointing out blatantly obvious things.
No one here is saying "WTF Google why you no make teh hangoutz werk for mah Note before official release?! "
We're merely conversing, seeing if these problems are shared by all, or just some. So pump the brakes and cool your jets.
The simple fact it works
Flawlessly on my wife's Galaxy S3 and not my Note 3 makes me curious and eager to see if there are tweaks on our end that can nudge the software into a happy place.
That being said, constructive and helpful people who manage to find workarounds or anything helpful to get their MMS working without crashing the app, hop in and share!
