Video Camera quality in ICS - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys,
I have a question regarding the video in camera ICS. When the 4.0.3 ICS came out, I upgraded my phone (ARC S) to the official stock rom. I quickly find out that the video camera fps were down at 26-28 in comparison to Gingerbread, which was 29.8xx, furthermore the audio was horrible. I was forced to downgrade my phone firmware to Gingerbread 2.3.4.
My question is, is there any way to upgrade to 4.0.4 and still keep the video camera quality of 2.3.4? I have seen some work has been done by jader13254, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1742758 . I tried his work by coping his modified LIB folder to 4.0.4, but i could not see any improvement. Any other solution or suggestion??

Hi ! I have ICS 4.0.4, and my framerate is about 29.7 and had no sound problems.

There are many PC software that among other things give info about source of the video file and stuff. Google for example AVIdemux.

[Q] 480p recording on Galaxy Gio?

Hey guys,
I see a few videos like this on Youtube:
youtube.com/watch?v=y6X5oYPNs7M
youtube.com/watch?v=IDh6NdObnjE
As you can see, it's much higher quality than stock.
Using LGCamera, it's possible to record at 640x480...but only if you are using 2.2 or 2.1
It's not possible currently to do this with 2.3.x. The developer of LGCamera says on 4pda.ru that it is a firmware problem and to solve it, you should flash back to 2.2

So my question is : does anyone know if it's possible to record 640x480 in 2.3.6? Or in any custom roms? None showed up when I searched "480p".
Is it possible for someone to create a mix of 2.2 and 2.3 that would include this functionality?
Thanks!
PS: Keep in mind when answering - sometimes camera apps will tell you that they are recording 640x480 but they are not. If you think you know a rom that has 480p recording, please be sure of it!

are you sure that the video are not fake?!
i'm very interested..about 2 months ago i write ti phiezx about this with anything answer...
Because i found a thread of ACE say with a stock rom (i have the code, it's a rom of samf.... i can research my post) the quality of video recording increase..
the camera of ACE is different respect a GIO, but if it's can do dor ace why we can't do for gio...
sorry for my english...
yes the videos are very true, the source of the video says that in froyo 2.2 LGCameraPro works but with the 2.3.3 update it cant record 480p and i dont know why
this thread is important!
We have need of some dovelopers...
Yes, indeed we need some developers on this case. 480p recording would be an amazing addition to our Gio. If only there was someone who had the time and will to do it.
correct!! if only theres a fast froyo rom!
Up! Up! We need some developer! I tried a Froyo ROM with LgCamera and 480p worked.
I tried to mix it, tried to get some of the files including the camera apk file in froyo and put them in ginger with root explorer and didnt work, tried to mod the config file and didnt work, someone knows how to make a froyo apk works on ginger?

Me too. I also tried to modify the media profiles.xml replacing 320 to 640 and 240 to 480 but nothing. Please help us! Samsung Wave Y with 2 Mpx camera records @480p and Gio with 3.2 Mpx only 240p? Why in Froyo ROM did it work and in Gingerbread not?
We need 480p for our gio! Developers, where are you?

Hey guys! This thread is very important! Let's keep it up with your replies. Did anyone try to send an e-mail to a developer?
P.S. Does it record @480p in CM7?
We should, could you do it? I don't have much time.
any updates? this would be really a great addition to Gio's Features !
At the moment, nothing. But I try to send an e-mail to some developer and only one of this devs replies to my\our question.

[Q] Flickering background in video playback!

Hey!
I hope this question hasn't been already been posted and answered. Only recently I got my Galaxy Nexus and so far I'm seriously in love  On thing that bugs me though, is the crappy video playback, whether on YouTube or directly played from the internal storage. There's always a lot of background artifacts and noise where's only supposed to be a plain color, e.g. black (compared to playback on a PC or other devices). Could someone play this video (search on YT for Perfect Balance Pedal, first video from 0:14 on) on their Gnex and report if they face the same problem or have a solution? Thanks a lot!
I don't have any bug like that..
I'm using JB ROM and with stock ICS ROMs I didn't have that problem too..
Are you using stock ROM with stock kernel, or..?

Never experienced this issue. However, since it's occurring on both videos contained in memory as well as streaming services like YouTube, it's not likely an issue with the connection. The only thing I can come up with is something in your graphics drivers (hopefully) or GPU (hopefully not) is messed up. Have you tried downloading all of the stock software, checking md5sums and reflashing stock?
If a fresh and clean install of stock continues to have this issue, it may be an issue with the hardware and may need to be replaced.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm currently on mike1986's Android Revolution 5.01 (JB) with Trinity Kernel, but I don't think the problem relates to that because I previously got this on stock 4.04 also. So it could just be a defunction of my screen?

An issue with the GPU blobs / GPU itself or possibly the CPU is more likely than the screen itself. If there was an issue with the screen you would likely see problems outside of video playback.

[Q] CM9 RC6– stock gb video qual. comparison

Hi all
I am using cm9 rc6 and i am happy with that. Thanks to devs.
I ve compared the 720p videos of cm9 and stock gb. File size of gb version is nearly doubling the cm9 version. I watched both videos in pc and I am not surprised with that because there is a clear quality difference in favor of gb version video.
Is there a way to rec videos in cm9 as good as in gb Rom version?

I've made a topic about the same Q, but only with cm10 and GB.
I've noticed the same thing lol, that the GB 720p runs on way better fps than JB.

i think we cant do anything about it for now, unless arco or other devs decided to improve it..
For me im quite satisfied, considering that its not working before..THANKS arco/devs for that..
FYI.. quoting arco's words about the camera.
•camera will never work as good as in stock rom, period! We are using ugly hal wrapper hack to get it to work at all! This is only guaranteed to work partially ok with included camera app. And still not everything will work at all with it, like certain effects or video calls. All other 3rd party camera apps may or may not work. Don't cry if they don't. If you absolutely need a 100% working camera, use stock rom!

If your camera lens is not clean then try cleaning.
Otherwise video recording bug is the hot issue in JB update.

ok my lens is clean and i noticed one thing more if i disable image stabilizer there is a minor improvement and it is focusing a bit quick........
but i would say that focus issue is also present in xperia t and sp as well....i have watched videos on u tube..........
Yes, it is annoying
Has Sony release some information about the bugs in the .200 and .211 JB updates? It's annoying as hell being unable to use the full capabilities of my phone.
i really feel strange that why sony dont give attention to these problems...... Sony is a big name in Imaging World but sadly their devices are not upto the mark.... .Look at nokia ....Wow .! How best hardware they Made ...specially Camera...:good: i hope they will use android in upcoming years...:fingers-crossed:
