Reverted to stock for JB OTA. Anyone else?? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So i was playing around with the I/O leak of JB and it is gosh darn fast but i really want to see this update so i reverted back to stock ICS and locked my boot loader. Anyone else do this in wait for the OTA???

I have no interest in waiting really. I can live with a buggy phone as long as the essentials work. I love putting new rooms on and testing the features. I think that waiting for ota is pointless for most of the people here when they want the latest and greatest with mods and patches. However, to each there own and just putting in my two cents.

Nope, because 20 minutes after the first person gets it there is going to be a stock rom posted here that is prerooted and ready to go.

Completely no reason to lock the bootloader as far as I'm concerned.

I'm waiting. Personally I prefer the complete package. I'm not even rooted. I haven't rooted since my Samsung Epic. The first one. I've been thru 4 Android devices since then. I just prefer the stock experience and I'd rather not flash something that I can't enjoy in its entirety due to bugs and functions not working. And flashing and modding gets old to me since I don't have as much time anymore.

i don't understand this thread, i thought these *were* OTA releases?? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20843237&postcount=1)
Today I upgraded from (4.0.4 yakjudv IMM76K -> 4.1.1 yakju JRO03C) and it seems to be working perfectly. Can you clarify what you mean by the I/O leaked JB as I thought the version on that link will be the official release as everyone gets...

I'll be going back to stock to catch OTA, or grab the verified and official files if posted. I'm a bit of a purist so I like unmodified code if going for the OEM experience. I also prefer to root/install myself for learning/practice purposes vs using a "modified for me" stock ROM.
For me, a strong motivator for purchasing the Nexus was to learn/tinker with it. So going to stock JB first, then eventually trying the various ROM flavors that come out is very exciting to me.

Official releases out now are for GSM only, he may be referring to a previous leaked release before official or perhaps he has a CDMA device.

No offense but I don't get how installing from official updates is not stock
What I did:
1. downloaded 4.0.4 takju factory image
2. flashed it using fastboot
3. downloaded official OTA 4.0.4 takju to 4.1.1 tajku
4. flashed the ota using temporary cwm boot
5. factory reset
Won't this process give a pure stock experience? I didn't lock the bootloader because I don't have to.

Yes to stock experience. I mentioned "verified and official if posted". What I was referring to was xjman's post on using a 'pre-rooted' stock ROM. I'd rather root myself manually and know that the files came direct from Google untouched.
Your procedure is exactly what I'll be doing if I don't catch the OTA.

I tried to wait, but I couldn't so I flashed a stock 4.1.1 ROM. I'm impatient.

Well no..... but since i was at the bootloader screen and its not that hard.

About a week ago I flashed a takju image over my yakju as the belief was takju would get it first... so I updated to 4.1.1 via methods shown here for OTA update and liked it....
But today I reverted back to 4.0.4 yakju simply because I didn't feel Wallet should reside on my phone if I can't see or use it, and instantly got the update over the air. Phone works just the same without the wallet weight. lol
I'm probably going to flash the full factory image when it comes out too.. I mean, why not. lol

Yeah. I'll look into custom roms for JB or see the 4.0 sense ROM port when its stable enough.

The same happens with other frameworks and ui changes.

[Q] How to upgrade to Android 4.0.3

Hi,
Just got my Nexus. Can't update it as Nexus says it's up to date. And my Android version is 4.0.1 at the moment.
But I see in your signatures most of you have 4.0.3.
Do I need to be a developer (must have SDK or smth) to upgrade? Or is there a simple way to do that?
Thanks!
4.0.3 OTA is not available. It's in AOSP.
Only way to get 4.0.3 is to use a custom ROM .

well luckily for you if you ever decide to go the custom rom route, the people at samsung, google, and the wonderful developers online have made it almost idiot proof, and safe to do. you will probably be surprised how easy it is. in fact, most people seem to have the most issues installing the windows(or mac) drivers properly.
peter alfonso - peteralfonso.com has the Bugless Beast rom, which is nearly stock aosp, and very stable
i have to say I tried rooting, unlock and custom rom... and the hardest bit was finding the right drivers.. but used the universal ones (in the forums) and it worked like a charm.. Just follow a guide and it's simple... but I've stuck with stock as the camera functionality isn't as good in AOSP... will flash cm9 when its ready though

You don't need to install any drivers on Mac to make fastboot working. Just download a fastboot binary (like on Linux).
Btw
When we should expect 4.0.3 to be released officially?
How long it usually takes to release a new version?

no ETA. it is ready when it is ready.
flash to custom 4.0.3 if you want it now
I am also still at 4.0.1 and when I check for update, still no 4.0.2
When were will be an update to 4,0,3 will we be able to update without losing all the settings?
I have Backup checkbox marked in my settings.
So, if I'm on 4.0.2 and download a 4.0.3 ROM it will be compatible? Same with flashing a 4.0.3 kernel on a 4.0.2?
Thanks

I guess if u clear the Google services framework within app and press check for update... perhaps it'll work =]… if it doesn't the first time.. try 10 more times. It will say last checked on 1969 ... disregard that

Just reading through the comments on the article, seems a couple people are getting (Much) better signal strength. Whatever they did it seems to have worked! (Maybe they just poured butter all over the radio code?)

Potentially! Are they comparing them to the leaked 4.0.4 radios? Doubtful since they upgraded and were presumably on 4.0.2 lol.
Either way, someone needs to find the images and make a flashable zip. I need something to do at work, nah mean?

Yes. Radios are compatible with pretty much anything. They are separate from the rom, and do not even "stick" with a nandroid.

Updating a rooted Nexus to 4.1

Hey,
Since Google MAY gonna release 4.1 today. Is there a way to update the firmware to 4.1 without any big problems? Or should I wait for a Nightly release?
Thanks!
I'm kind of confused about your question because there is like three directions you're asking about. First of all, if you're asking if you can update your software to 4.1 as soon as it comes out without any problems, I don't see why not. Google may post their factory images on their site, which you can download and flash via ADB. Google may also just update OTA, in which case we need to wait for a leak, then someone will post it here on XDA. Otherwise you can wait until someone cooks up a clean 4.1 rom, in which case you can flash that straight through your recovery. By "nightly" I think of CyanogenMod, which will likely take a little longer than custom roms, so you're going to have to wait a little if you want a Cyanogen 4.1-based nightly.

If you're stock, just wait for the OTA notification or flash the new stock image/update file when Google posts it.
If you're on a custom ROM wait for their update or return to stock.

depends on how much stock u are
if u used some toolkits, it (or you manually) may have flashed an unsecured boot (kernel) image to give u full root even with adb..so your kernel may be not stock anymore and u need to reflash the stock one
if u got root (only superuser app and su binary) on the stock rom, stock kernel, stock recovery, stock radio and stock bootloader (no matter if locked or unlocked)..then u are ok

Sorry Fabio, but as soon as the source code is released from the phone manufacturer, the devs can go to work. We don't have to wait for the provider to release the update. As per example: All three versions of the Optimus LTE (P930, SU640, and 6200) received ICS before the providers approved it. Source code leaks do happen.
If you want an official OTA update, then wait for the provider to approve it. I'm not holding my breath, especially if the device is built for use on an LTE network.

phone wont update to latest Jellybean

My friend has problems with his phone, when he got it back he no longer had jellybean 4.2 only 4.1

How can he get the latest OS back on his phone, as far as i can see, there is no branding, its raw android.... Very strange....

Try rebooting the PC.
Make sure Kies isn't running.
Lmao.. All of you guys rushing to flash an unrooted stock ROM just to see something we all have already seem in custom ROMs for the last month or more.. Its hilarious. Especially since half of you will now start a thread asking how to root the new update.. Its an awesomely hilarious cycle.
Especially since in less than a day all of the custom twiz ROMs will be updated.. Lol.

I've never actually ran Kies before...Can we update even if we're rooted, different ROM/Recovery? Or do we need to go back to stock?

I think people are just happy to have something that SHOULD be 100% stable. I've found one or two ROMS for 4.1.2 that have been 95% stable, and it's took some massaging on my part to make it work 99%. It'll be interesting to see how Samsung did 4.1.2 on our phones, so I'm down to download. I can rock stock for a little while

Ive been running CM 10.1 and will probably go back to it for the hotspot. I wanted stock for future use if I need it which I will debloat myself. A lot of people like rooted stock over custom roms because most custom roms have bugs and so does CM 10.1. And yes, it seems someone popping into the thread and lol'ing is also part of the humorous cycle.
So no multi window with jelly bean for us? Or is that just for 4.2.2

If you're running rooted stock you can just update and reroot. If you're on a custom rom you'll need to Odin back to stock.

It is what it is I guess.. It's definitely one of the cycles that I've seen countless times, personally I'll just wait till someone comes out with a flashable rooted zip..

The biggest question is, do we finally have Wifi Calling on JB? That's the main reason some of us are even on ICS at all.
