Can't receive vcf through MMS - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey all, I have had my Gnex for about two months now and I have noticed a recurring issue. When someone tries to send me a contact card through MMS, the phone will download the message, but won't show anything after, nothing to long press to save. I came from a Samsung Captivate and the Samsung messaging app would allow the sending and receiving of vcf files through mms. Anyway to do this with the Gnex? Thanks!

Look and make sure your messaging app isn't saving them in a funky place, if you still can't find it, try sending it through email.

It seems weird there's not more people complaining about that, is it really not possible to send/receive vCards over mms with Galaxy Nexus (I have Jelly Bean 4.1.1)? There's no option to send contact information over mms and when I receive one, I just get a blank attachment that I can't click Screenshot: www DOT shrani DOT si/f/24/c3/4t9GXHsZ/vcard.jpg (replace DOT with an actual dot). Also for some reason, at message options I don't have the usual 'Save attachment' option.

bump :/

I hate bumping, but I really can't find anything about this problem, even after searching for hours. Anyone has any tips?

Is there really no solution for this?

found a work around

I ran into this problem myself and duplicated it on all of the Galaxy Nexus phones . I think there is something native messaging app that cannot read vcards. I installed handcent sms and it works perfectly.

Way to tell if an SMS was sent to multiple people?

Over the New Years weekend I got a text from a friend saying something like "Hope everyone has a safe New Years!". From the message it was obvious that it was sent to more than one person. I just happened to be with another friend who also received the same text. He has a Droid 3 and in his Messaging app the Send button changes to Send to All or something of that nature. Is there a way to easily tell if a message has been sent to multiple recipients without looking at the message info? I feel like this would be a huge help considering that replying to those sends a text to everyone who got the initial message. Hope that was clear.

Right I get that. But sometimes a message can seem like it only was sent to you, but then after you reply you find out that it indeed was not. I was hoping for an obvious way to tell, like on the Droid 3 messaging app changing the send button to say send to all.

Unless I'm mistaken, that Send to All is a Motoblur specific feature. I don't think by default that SMS messages sent to multiple recipients automatically reply to all recipients. MMS messages might, but not SMS.
I may have to test it later. I'm fairly certain the replies go only to the sender, though.

I figured that was specific to Motoblur. I like that feature though. Makes it really simple knowing if you received a mass text. I was hoping to find an app or ROM that has this feature as well.

[Vzw] [Jb] All txt messages sent between certain times disappear

I did a Google search and found several topics about single text messages disappearing, but nothing about my problem.
Sometimes, when I go into the messaging app, I notice that all my text messages sent and received between certain days are gone. Older messages are still there, and new ones I send, and I can figure out what the ones that disappear have in common. Its like the last few days just didn't happen.
I've noticed this on vanirbean v7 and whatever primedirective's jb ROM is called. Anyone else get this, and on what ROM? Or, if there is a post hidden somewhere, could you direct me to it?

"Hidden Sender Address" notification will not go away

I keep getting a notification from all the different SMS apps I have tried that is called "Hidden Sender Address". When you click on it, it takes you to the app but not to a message. Chomp SMS indicates it is an MMS message. I cant find any unread message in the stock app or any aftermarket ones.
Regardless, I cant find it to delete and it wont stop showing up in the notification bar. Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this?

OP, have you been able to fix this issue? I just received the update to Jellybean and am currently suffering from the same issue. I have tried deleting all messages and clearing the app cache but haven't been able to get rid of this notification.
I'm actually receiving the same false notification and it started today for no reason other than opening an mms. On galaxy s3 CM10 preview
Nope...havent found an official fix. If I use Chomp, it doesnt appear. GO and Handcent and it shows back up anytime I receive a new message.

If you're using a 3rd party messenging app, disable the auto-retrive MMS. Go to Stock messenger and enable auto-retrieve MMS.
I use Chomp and this fixed the problem for me. Hope it helps.

Yes this is how I got around it but I couldnt find the options in Go or Handcent to disable MMS retrieval. So I am stuck with Chomp which is not the best of the three IMO.
Just started getting this today as well on GO SMS. Easiest fix- Option key, More, Mark All Read. Cleared them out for me and the notifications thay wouldn't go away are gone.

In handcent you can go to "receiving message settings" and disable auto retrieve. My sister uses handcent and hasn't received any MMS problems since.
Hey guys. I had this pop up last night after receiving 2 MMS in a row. Setting the auto retrieve off did not fix it but "mark all read" did. Just to let you all know.
I am on Motorola Atrix CM10 4.1.1 using Handcent
I believe there is a feature to mark certain contacts/conversions as secret. That I'd what that notification is. Look in your settings for something that refers to that. Those messages don't go to inbox but separate folder. Think you might have to password them to access.

I think what you are talking about is the private inbox. Those still come up and go away just like normal text messages except they bounce to the private box. That is not what we are talking about here though

Just wanted to say thanks for this. I have a Galaxy S III and started getting this as soon as I got 4.1 on my phone, drove me nuts. Just googled hidden sender address and found this thread.
Hidden Sender Address notification !!!FIX!!!
I was having this problem the other day after installing a jellybean messaging app. It worked fine for a day or so then I started getting "Hidden Sender Address" all the time and then wasn't even able to delete my texts. I would delete the entire conversation and it would still show that there was a conversation there, but it was all empty.
I contacted at&t to see if they had any ideas and the only thing they could come up with was factory reset. Screw that I knew there had to be another way. I'll never trust them completely!
I contacted the creator of the app and this is what he had me do and it did work:
If you have root you can clear the DB by deleting this file (apparently):
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
Of course that will delete all your SMS and MMSs, but you can
(hopefully) back them up to gmail and restore them afterwards using
SMS Backup+.

Why cant he just update the app to fix this issue?
Any news on this fix by the developer?
FIX!!!!
OK Everyone. I have resolved this issue on my Galaxy SIII and your are more than welcome to replicate this but beware, you may lose your SMS history.
First you can either delete all SMS. I didn't want to do this for obvious reasons.
Second, scroll all the way to the bottom of all your SMS. If like me you have oodles of them this might be annoying and take a while. At the bottom I found a sender called 'ANONYMOUS'!!!! Sounds ominous doesn't it.
I deleted this thread and since then I have nto had this message appear. ALTHOUGH.... i lost all my SMS as a result.... LOL whoops. bug time!
Please note. I also disabled auto download MMS, cleared badgeholder cache (which temporarily works), readded SMS icon and disabled google hangout from picking up SMS and neither of these permanently resolved the issue but feel free to try these first as you probably should do as they are non destructive.
:good:

[Q] MMS shows as slideshow

I'm having an annoying issue when I send or recieve an MMS it shows up as a slideshow in my stock MMS app. I'm using the Galaxy Note II SGH-I317M from Telus with Android 4.1.2. This issue was also in the 4.1.1 version. I've used custom roms and this only seems to be an issue in the Touchwiz releases.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, have you encountered a fix for it?
Thanks!
The only thing I can tell you is to not send text with the image and only send one picture at a time. Tell your friends not to send text with the picture and to send only one at a time. It is annoying the only other thing to do is save the images to your device.

That's something I noticed on my old Galaxy Nexus... If text was included with the image, it would show as a slideshow. With the Note II it doesn't seem to matter. Whether or not there's text included with the image, it still shows as a slideshow.

This drives me nuts! Hard to believe it's really this way and there is no fix. Well, other than using another Texting app, which i've tried and don't really want to do. I wish there was a way to fix this on the stock app.
Because of this issue I started using Go SMS Pro. It's far better in almost all aspects and doesn't show MMS as slideshows. I love the pop-up messages without exiting other apps as well.

Anyone using MightyText having a problem sending MMS through Web app?

I love Mighty Text - lets you send/receive SMS/MMS from PC just as if it was sent from phone and it even shows up in your phone.
It's great, but ever since I got my note 3 I can't get MMS to send through Mighty Text. I can send MMS through phone.
I also have Handcent SMS on the phone but that wasn't a problem with my S4 or previous phones.
Anyone have this issue or better yet a solution?
Obviously it's not critical sending text through MightyText still works but I'd like to be able to send MMS that way again.
Thanks

I have Note 3 and same issue. MMS is not sending.
If you are on Wifi, data must also be enabled for MMS to work. I am using Handcent.

I'm not using Handcent or any other text app and I'm having the same issue. Galaxy S3, Android 4.3 and MightyText 4.62. Any tips? Mobile Data is on but can't send group messages or MMS picture messages from the Chrome Web App. All I see if the little clock in the corner and that the message is pending. On the phone I have tried lots of things. Uninstall/Reinstall, Restart, unlink/link, clear cache and data. No dice. Any ideas appreciated.
Possible solution?
I'm on a Note 2, using Handcent and MightyText, and was having the same problem. The following seemed to help: in Handcent settings, I made Handcent my default program for MMS only (when it was default for both SMS and MMS, they didn't go through to MightyText). Hope this helps.
I also cannot send MMS/group message on the computer. I tried to install tweakker, but every time I run it, the app quits by itself... Any solution to this? I tried installing Handcent and making that the default for MMS, that did not help either.
I am running Kitkat on VZW HTC One.
I tried Hand (job) Cent but was not too impressed with the fact about when folks sent me MMS messages. It would want me download them.

It took me five minutes to figure out what all the settings mean and how they work. Maybe because I'm (23 years) old... too old for these tech gadgets. And MightyText still doesn't work for MMS/group message
I got mighty text working with MMS. You can't be on Wi-Fi at all with your device. It's slow, but it works when only on mobile data.

Doesn't work for me.
I installed Contacts+ and made it my default messaging app. Now MMS/group message works using MightyText.
MMS not sending MightyText/SGS4/Android 4.3
Hi
Did anyone come up with a solution to this as I'm hitting the same issue with my Samsung Galaxy S4 on Android 4.3? Everything else works really well - just cannot send MMS or Group messages (which I believe are sent as MMS too).
Have a support ticket open but ~2 weeks now and no reply.
Brian
I'm getting the messages on chrome telling me that its not connected and not working right. I have to keep resyncing them. Ahh it used to work so smooth.
Hello,
I am also running NOTE 3 and handcent with this issue. SMS works fine but MMS stopped working. it was all working fine on my Motorola RAZR HD XT925
going to test with other SMS tools and see what resulkts I get. Its a shame cause I really like handcent
