Desktop Dock Existence Question - Galaxy S III Accessories

Perhaps this is a thread better for Q&A, but I figure it is specifically about an accessory. As I've done searching through various gadget sites and Google I've yet to find an accessory for the SGSIII as below:
Coming from the Droid X, there existed a dock which when the DX was placed in it the phone would go into desktop dock mode. I forgot where I got mine. I think it was an ad on droid-life that I clicked through. I've seen that Samsung has a dock that charges the phone and is a multimedia dock, but it appears as if it holds the phone in portrait mode. Is there a dock that allows the phone to sit in a landscape position and have the screen show a clock, calender, etc.?
On another note, does anyone know if the SGSIII's dock is triggered via magnets as the DX was?

S3 does not trigger by magnets.
you have 2 options:
USB trigger, or NFC tag.
BUT samsung has a nice dock with multimedia out, and there are a couple aftermarket ones too... that i can't yet link to.

Hopefully they'll release a desktop dock with HDMI and USB OTG on it, in addition to a charger port. Would make a nice portable computer...

I wish I could put my DX into the "desktop dock" mode to snap a picture of it. It doesn't seem to want to cooperate with CM7 on it. Perhaps it was a Blur thing. I mainly wanted to have this big ass clock/calender/news ticker to sit on my desk. I sit on the corner of cube row so people probably would break their neck as they rounded the corner checking it out!

HD Dock for Atrix, any reviews?

Hello all.
Just wondering if anyone has this and wouldnt mind putting up their opionion on it. It looks cool and it's currently $79.99 with free shipping on amazon. I know theres the mod to make it work with just the HDMI out, but the added function with the USB ports, make it a little better and less of a "hack job.."
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Mult..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0HWYEBKJMAYFCF63E22S
I like to know this as well.
Hey guys,
I bought the same one from Amazon. It is just a dock with ports for connecting the USB, Power, and HDMI. The only thing I hate about it is getting the phone into the dock slot. You have to hold it just right to have the two ports on the phone aligning with the dock. The dock slot was not designed to help guide the phone into the connectors. Once you got it into the dock it’s fit great. The dock is usefully if you do not have a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse. I plug my wireless keyboard into the USB and it is good to go.
I did the WebTop mod and it is great to use when you are at friends house or traveling. The dock also allows you to access other options when it is dock.
WebTop
Entertainment Center
Clock Dock
I like the Clock Dock, since my phone is also my alarm clock.
Oh, if you got a case on your phone it will not fit into the HD dock. I own the Incipio case. It’s very thin but still doesn’t fit the dock.

Multimedia dock for Atrix
I bought the dock with remote for the Atrix (came with the IR remote).
I concur with the issue regarding aligning the unit to the usb and hdmi ports on the phone -- I spend a few seconds each time trying to get everything lined up (and hope I'm not scratching the phone in the process).
Other than that, the dock is very nice. I prefer using wired keyboards and USB mice rather than bluetooth -- it keeps the BT free for audio (listening to music).
I have my dock set up at work and connected to a KVM switch to connect my phone to the keyboard/mouse I use for the two computers at my desk. I don't switch video with the KVM switch, and I leave the phone in the "do nothing" mode most of the time so I can use the phone without the monitor.
The keyboard works great and I can use it to compose emails and SMS messages while it's on the dock.
My biggest disappointment is the operation of the mouse when it's on the dock and not in Webtop mode. The phone does not create a mouse cursor in the "do nothing" mode to allow you to use the mouse effectively, so you have to reach over and touch the screen to control the device. Using the mouse is pretty much useless as it jumps from icon to icon and you can't really predict where you are going when operating the mouse.
In webtop mode, you get a cursor, and operating the mouse is as you would exepect -- you can control the phone display mode with the cursor and it's as intuitive as using your finger. This is what should have been available when you're not in Webtop mode with a mouse.
If you hook up the monitor without a keyboard and mouse, the phone display turns into a laptop touchpad control. A keyboard icon is also available to switch to keyboard input as well. An external mouse and keyboard are highly recommended, however.
In short, the dock is awesome, and I plan on getting two more (without remotes); one for my desk at home and work (this one will be put on my home entertainment system so I can use the remote to control the device for music and videos.)

P.S.
I also am interested in what Motorola may be offering in terms of the "ruggedized case" mentioned in the manual for the dock. If you have an Otterbox or other protective case for your phone, you will likely will have to remove the device from the case in order to dock the unit.
The manual for the dock mentioned another insert you can place on the dock to accomodate the ruggedized case, but I can't find anything on Motorola's website for ordering either the insert or the case.
Just had my HD Dock yesterday.. Is there a way I can customize the webtop (desktop) other than change the wallpaper? Nothing special, it looks like it just blow up the 4" screen to 42" screen but the resolution is still the same. I was expecting somethin like opening multiple windows at the same time and multitask.
I had it connected to my 42" 1080p LED TV but looked like 50pixels all around the screen is gone! I can only see the minimize button on the upper right hand corner, restore can still be clicked if i drag my cursor all the way to the corner and click blindly, but the close button is totally gone. Is there an "fit to screen" option?
It great nonetheless..
powered ports on dock?
Usually, the fit to screen setting is on the tv itself. Check your remote for the aspect or zoom key, or in the settings somewhere.
But while I'm here, I had a question for you dock owners. Are the usb ports powered with 500ma? Has anyone tried connecting an external 2.5 hd to it?
Might want to check this out

You can remove the insert on the dock and the Incipio will fit. The only problem now is it is too loose. A thicker case like Speck or Bodyglove will probably fit better.

Desktop Dock that works with a case

I'm looking for a dock for the Epic 4G Touch that works with a TPU case and ideally has the microusb end built into the dock base. I've only seen one type out there, and I can't find the link now, but it got pretty bad reviews for sliding around not being stable, not syncing with the computer, etc... ( Even though it looks pretty cool, if I find the link I'll post it )
Failing finding a decent dock, maybe a good DIY idea for a dock would suffice, I don't mind building it myself if someone has laid out some plans. I've seen some out there on google, and either A.) Their way to basic( The business card holder ) or B.) Their way to complex( Saw one with 2 speakers built in, made out of balsa wood or something and had USB ports ... I don't need anything that extensive. )
So lets here it, anyone seen anything out there, or build your own ... What are ya'll doing for docks with a case on?
I have this one. It is nice, comes with a cable, does what it is supposed to do, works with a case. The drawback is it is very light, and you will not be able to just lift it out of the dock without securing the dock down, but beside that it works. I wish the cable was black, and not an apple knockoff, but the dock itself is nice, and you can use it with the phone horizontal as well, not plugged in of course, but nice for watching bedside videos. ( I can't post links yet, but search amazon for "micro usb dock" and it is the first link, it is called Sinjimoru Sync Stand )

Dock Help

Does any one have a dock for the note?
Did you get it off ebay? (Here for example)
I want to get one - but really only if it put the note into dock mode. I like to use it as a night stand clock.
If these dont work to put the phone into dock mode - does any one have a suggestion of what dock will? except the 80$ one from samsung.
You might wanna check "Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 I9220 SGH-I717 Multimedia Desktop Dock EDD-D1E1BEGSTA". You can find it on the eBay.
(Im a new user so cant give you a direct link)
You can also find "Genuine Samsung Galaxy NOTE Desk Charge Dock N7000 EDD-D1E1BEG Desktop Cradle !" for 60' ish $
I checked and you can get the cheap on from amazon for like 25$. I think I am going to do that unless someone has any suggestions.
Does anyone know what puts the phone into dock mode? I'd like to build my own landscape dock and am curious about this.
I bought the Phillips AS351/37 fidelio docking speaker for android. It's on Amazon for $112 but I bought mine at Best Buy for $99. It's a dock/speaker system specifically for android phones....it holds my Tmobile Galaxy s2, Htc Sensation and my GNote....it has little wheels on the usb dock where you can adjust it to fit your phone or if you have the usb port on the side of the phone instead of the bottom. It works by bluetooth and the speaker quality, imo, is awesome! It says to download the fidelio app from the play store, you dont have to, I did and its not bad, it has clock mode, alarm mode, brightness settings along with weather forecast. It has radio stations and has the app "songbird"....you can find that in the play store as well. It's just a music app, its ok but I rather use the google play music app. All in all its one of my favorite docks, and I have a few. It doesnt automatically set off the dock mode but like I said, the fidelio app puts it in to dock mode. Phillips has a few different ones, one that has a built in alarm clock with digital display, one that is a round speaker with a nightlight...which is the one that i wanted but when I went to best buy to look at it the GNote overpowered it as the speaker isnt all that big. You can find all the Phillip android docks on amazon. Read the reviews....they have great reviews....I should have posted the link to the one I got, sorry, I'll repost with it.

What i did is a simple use of tasker to activate the clock dock screen when usb is charged. You can also improve it by detecting your home wifi SSID so that it only converts when you are at home. This saves you a ton of money with the cheaper docks. Hope it helps!
Forgot to mention that the fidelio dock I got has a USB port in the back to charge a second device.....which I find super helpful since I have 3 phones.

Horizontal dock

I can't find a horizontal desk dock for this phone anywhere... Am I not looking hard enough or does it just not exist?
The official dock works just fine horizontally. In fact I'm using it that way as I type this.
Does it stand upright when it's sideways? From the pics it looks like it is vertical only.

Upright, the dock only allows the phone to connect one way. It's just a matter of physically turning the OEM Samsung dock on it's side. That being said, no, the phone will be horizontal as well when you turn the dock on it's side. As long as you have "auto-rotate" enabled, your desk clock application should adjust accordingly I use Alarm Clock +.
I remember when I had a dock for my original GS, it had a dock app preinstalled on it and it would launch automatically when I docked it. Does this happen on GSII?
Yes, it will auto launch. However, that behavior can be changed in various ways if you want it to stay on homescreen when docking.
Edit:Some dock apps even give you options to launch other programs/tasks all together.
It also depends what ROM you are on. I'm on CM9. When I plug my phone in it goes to a desk clock display that auto-rotates based on the phone's orientation. I usually keep it vertical unless I'm watching a video in which case I just lay it on it's side.

Here is a pic I found of it in its horizontal orientation:

Okay, assuming that I'm on MIUI, i'm positive there is nothing built-in. I ordered the desk dock and the car dock together on amazon two days ago so they should be coming today.. My Mesmerize had a car dock mode and a desk dock mode. The car one had links to navigation/maps and such, and the desk one just had alarms and notes and a big clock. Is this achievable on this phone?

Indeed. I've been using both OEM Samsung docks since the SGSII D710 first came out, and used the older docks for the SGSI T959. Btw, CarHome Ultra is the ish!
How can I get them still?
Found this. http://www.amazon.com/Quality-Desktop-Charger-Data-Sync-Docking/dp/B007RQQJYG

[Q] Car Dock Mode vs. Desktop Dock Mode

OK, here's my setup:
Note II VZW phone, completely stock (Go Launcher Ex installed)
CarHome Ultra App
iBolt xProDock Car Dock **
Samsung Galaxy Desktop Dock Station (recently RMA'd)
** I originally ordered the iBolt xProDock for my HTC Droid DNA, which came with the dock, HTC charging "arm" and 9ft USB cable. After having to switch phones to the Note II, iBolt was kind enough to send me the Samsung charging arm at no cost.
Disclosure: This is my first Samsung Android phone owned.
With my HTC phones, even the DNA, when I put the phone in a Car Dock, it would prompt to start the HTC Car Dock app (or in my case, a choice between HTC's and CarHome Ultra, which I would choose to always open CHU). If I put the phone in a "home/desktop" dock, it would ask if I wanted to start the "Desk Mode/Desk Clock" app.
With the Note II and the docks mentioned above, when I put it in the iBolt car dock, it prompts if I want to open CHU or Desk Clock. When I put the phone in the Samsung OEM Desktop Dock Station, it prompted the same thing. When I plug the phone into the Car Dock and choose CHU "Always," then when I put the phone in the Desktop Dock, it would start the CHU app. (Likewise, if I chose Desk Clock>Always for the Desktop dock, when placing the phone in the Car Dock it would start that app.)
Questions:
Does my Note II really not know the difference between docks?
Anyone know of stock settings for the Note II to get it to see the difference between the docks? (No, I don't want to mess around with NFC tags or Tasker programs if I can help it.)
Is there a Desktop Dock that will ask to start the Desk Clock app that isn't the OEM Samsung one? (The one I had for 2 days was very cheap and broke. VERY poor build quality, especially for what it cost me!)
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions/help.
I'd like to know this too. I have the Note 2 for Sprint, the iBolt car dock, and the Samsung Smart Dock. At the moment, it always opens CarHomeUltra in either dock. I'm guess I may have to make GentleAlarm or the Samsung like Dock Screen the default, and use NFC to force it for the car mode when I'm in there.
Wow, no answers or even additional "me too" complaints. I guess not many people use both a car and home dock. I want to use essentially the same setup as the OP but with a S4. My old Droid 3 (running Gingerbread) would nicely launch the appropriate dock app depending on the dock - Bedside for the home dock and Car Home Ultra for the (obviously ) car dock. My new S4 launches the same default app once it's chosen regardless of the dock. Seems like a huge step backwards.
