Desktop Dock that works with a case - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I'm looking for a dock for the Epic 4G Touch that works with a TPU case and ideally has the microusb end built into the dock base. I've only seen one type out there, and I can't find the link now, but it got pretty bad reviews for sliding around not being stable, not syncing with the computer, etc... ( Even though it looks pretty cool, if I find the link I'll post it )
Failing finding a decent dock, maybe a good DIY idea for a dock would suffice, I don't mind building it myself if someone has laid out some plans. I've seen some out there on google, and either A.) Their way to basic( The business card holder ) or B.) Their way to complex( Saw one with 2 speakers built in, made out of balsa wood or something and had USB ports ... I don't need anything that extensive. )
So lets here it, anyone seen anything out there, or build your own ... What are ya'll doing for docks with a case on?

I have this one. It is nice, comes with a cable, does what it is supposed to do, works with a case. The drawback is it is very light, and you will not be able to just lift it out of the dock without securing the dock down, but beside that it works. I wish the cable was black, and not an apple knockoff, but the dock itself is nice, and you can use it with the phone horizontal as well, not plugged in of course, but nice for watching bedside videos. ( I can't post links yet, but search amazon for "micro usb dock" and it is the first link, it is called Sinjimoru Sync Stand )

Car docks for Droid X

Have there been any pics released of the official car dock for Droid X? Or any other Droid X-specific car docks?
There have been. There were videos as well. I cannot remember where though. I want to know how it knows when it is plugged in and if this could be replicated so that I can use a cheaper dock...
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=droid+x+car+dock
lol at navychief52 I didn't know such a thing, i'm going to use it all the time now.
But yes it can be replicated, here's the new feature though that you loose by using a generic car dock. It has a built in charging port, which means you can just slide your phone into the dock and not have to wire up a charger to it too.
as for the part where you put it in and it automatically starts up the car app, all you need is a magnet, atleast thats how i found the last droid docks worked. I don't know what strength it has to be for it's magnetic sensor to trigger the app, but I don't think it has to be very powerful at all. But I would glue that to the back of your generic car dock and you should be good to go. I know thats what I'll be doing.

Ah thanks for that! I figured it would just be a magnet but wasn't sure. If I could find a dock with a nice beefy arm like the oem car dock then I would just use that. So far the only kind that I find are the ones that have a long bendable metal tube. Need something with more strength... To be fair I have not been looking too hard core yet.
I just do not like the idea of buying a dock for a device that I will probably not have a year later...
Besides the Droid X being unveiled today in New York, this car dock made an appearance as well.
can you keep the line in audio plug plugged into the car dock or do you need to plug it in manually to the phone everytime? I use a line in plug
I've looked at everything, but I cannot find an answer to this.

It has a cable loom on the car dock for the wire however it goes into the phone.
Only the USB goes to the dock.
They really need to figure out a pass through or something for these things.
At least the dock is very solid and easy to use. But agreed, would have been nice to plug jack into dock and dock have attached short cable to go into phone. So even if you have to plug every time, it is made easier.
Looks like I'll just get this bluetooth adapter for my car instead.

Anyone know of something similar that plugs into an aux line like this one? I might get this, but I'm open to different stuff if it's better.

just ordered this: https://www.wiredforless.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SOUNDM2
when you check out, use the coupon code: WOOT for $20 off ($9.99 total including shipping)
can't beat that price and it looks like a pretty solid car dock. first review mentions that it is good with the Droid X.
thanks for the heads up! it looks pretty good! however, im concerned with the adhesive disk that is applied to our devices.... does it stick out... and would it affect cases and other things etc...
i honestly am not sure, but i ordered a ****ty $1 silicone case from ebay that i'll be using with the mount haha.
Silcon isn't that the soft cases? i'm not sure that would hold my phone tight enough, i drive a truck so there is lots of bouncing around. I think i'm gonna buy a cheep belt clip case, that way i can just clip the phone in and out.
so my mount came in literally 2 days after i ordered. ridiculously fast shipping; they must be located nearby. haven't installed yet but it's pretty small and unobtrusive. seems like a good buy thus far. the discs that stick to the back of your device (comes with 2) are a lot skinnier than i thought they would be. might just put it on my normal everyday case. i don't think i'll run into problems slipping it in and out of my project with the disc on the back.
I've ordered mine as well as ordering a cheep belt clip so i can snap it in and out. Too me the twisting motion (while awesome for the secure locking) seems a bit much for my lifestyle of always jumping in and out of my car.
Ill probably use the 2nd disc on the same clip so i can have landscape and portrait

Just ordered one myself. For $10 shipped, I figured I might as well give it a shot.
I got my "Slip Grip" mount in the mail today and for the $20 bucks it cost it is very much worth it.
The mount is VERY sturdy, seller shipped it same day too!! Check it out!
Only downside is it is just a mount, it doesn't have any plugs for power n such, but does leave all of the ports available if you had like a car charger or AUX cable running while it is in there.
Got the car mount from vzw today have to say it is bulkier than my Droid 1 mount, but that is expected with this phone. Looks good on the dash mount in an F250.

[Q] Xoom wall mount

It would be great if we could have a Xoom wall mount.
One that would charge the xoom, as well possibly have some extra connections such as HDMI and USB
Minimalism would be great as well
The following is a true eyesore.
Google "padholdr" as I can't post links yet
A negative with any wall mount is that the wakeup button is behind the xoom, but some clever design might make it a positive. Pressing the whole screen could wake it up.
It would be great to use it as a media centre interface even if all it does is plug into an amp
Any pointers for some of the above ?
I feel like designing it my self ...
Yeah, I've looked at those too....they're ugly as sin. I'd love a more attractive one, so I could hang it by my bed. But I am in no rush yet, since there's no Netflix! I am not having much luck with PlayOn either.
Yeah, power and USB would be great. I just got a wireless USB thingy which is really cool...haven't tried it yet on the Xoom, but it works for other things from across the room. Not my iPod though.
I think the hard part with something like that would be wiring nicely, unless you mean something that's right under/next to the TV. I'm thinking something next to my couch/bed that's wired to the TV on the other side of the room.
Xoom wall holder
Attach a small mirror on the wall. Secure it. then by one of those xoom mounts from ebay.

USB Cradle Dock with Battery Charger

My phone sits by my computer most of the time, and with my HTC Mogul, then HTC Touch Pro, then EVO 4G I've bought a combo cradle/battery charger. I haven't seen one mentioned available here for the Epic 4G Touch and I just found/bought one on eBay and thought I'd mention it for others interested in a device like this. Once I receive the item I can post a review if you guys would like.

This looks like the one I had for my Touch Pro 2... it worked nicely and was cheaper than the official docks.
I am interested in your impressions as well.
thanks
Question for anyone that has purchased this dock..
Have you been able to charge your phone with any type of case on it? Thanks.
Just a quick update. I got the charger, but I don't have an Epic 4G Touch yet. The first seller I bought the phone from ended up being from a scammer. I gave the dock/charger to a friend, and bought another one that's already here. I should have the Epic 4G Touch from another seller here by Tuesday and will post my impressions soon after.
Damn, sorry to hear that..
Ok guys...
Im also looking at desktop cradles and found this other one:
From an Amazon vendor:
$22 (includes shipping):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OTXKK4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3CZ5XR3PIAJMS
It's basically almost the same design as the one the OP linked to. What do you guys think?
I kind of wanted one that you could rest the phone in and charge it with a cover on, but I don't think that's gonna happen.

I think this one is better because you can turn your dock on its side like if you were watching Sprint TV...

This one looks nice, but some of the reviews for this brand (for other phones) mentions it covers up the speaker so when the phone is docked the sounds are silenced since the speaker is at the bottom. Although this may be true for all these 3rd party docks.
It's cool, Paypal resolution against the scammer just resolved today and they sided with me and already credited my PayPal account.

For that other cradle from Amazon, though you probably can put it on its side I'd be concerned with the side buttons/hitting the desk and possibly being pressed in, and possibly the device itself slipping out. The other concern I have with that model is that I can't clearly see the extra battery charger compartment. The one I got should accommodate extended batteries, but I can't tell on that model.
Found this one... similar

it looks like the one from Amazon just a different brand.. it also covers the speaker so I wonder if you can hear the alarms or music... there may be enough room behind the actual phone to allow the sound to be heard, but it doesnt look like it.
Quick first impressions:
* Feels solid and fits snugly, so pay attention when docking the phone in as it aligns only one way.
* When no battery is in the battery charging slot there's a LED that flashes crazy fast green/red which may bother some people. You can always cover it up with electrical tape. I don't notice it most of the time since my phone blocks the LED anyways when docked.
* A significant negative and quite surprising difference in the dock compared to the docks I had for my EVO 4G / Touch Pro and Mogul are that this dock only has one USB slot. So it either charges the battery and phone from a wall plug or it charges the battery and connects/charges the phone via your computer's USB port. My previous phone docks had 2 USB connectors, one for the battery and one for the phone. I haven't tried connecting this to my computer or charging an extra battery yet but I'm figuring trying to charge two things at the same time via one USB cable, especially when connected to a computer USB port would not be very efficient.
Update 12/09/2011: Argh, deal breaker, just got my Trexcell 3800mah Extended Battery, but because of the location of the battery contact on the battery and dock it won't fit, .
Killabee and talynone
that second black dock is the one I am interested in. my PRIMARY concern with docks that use the charging jack on the phone (whatever happened to dedicated dock "contacts" on phones Cheap SOB's)
is that I want the phone IMMOBILIZED while in the dock. ie I don't want to be able to TILT the phone forward while in the dock "stressing and breaking" the usb jack on the phone.
IE I want the dock to RESTRICT the movement of the phone to vertical only (insert remove dock connector type motion)
the first dock in this thread would NOT prevent the phone from tilting forward.
the second one I am not sure about. do those sides "wrap" around the edge of the phone enough to restrict its movement to a solid slide and NO forward slop?
Here is a video of what I mean. (its processing give it a few minutes to process)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhWtz5EU_Rg
nerys71,
I saw your video and can tell you that the phone in this dock is not restricted from tilting. So yes it will tilt while charging. I am talking about this dock:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005OTXKK4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3CZ5XR3PIAJMS
ahh pity. I assume you have it? does the phone protrude past the front "AT ALL" in that dock? IE it looks like it would be friendly to modding it with 2 "lips" on the front to prevent the phone tilting.
Yeah I have it. It doesn't pertrude at all. The phone sits flush.

Official car mount spotted on amazon

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Veh...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1323123444&sr=1-16
Looks slightly different to the one seen before on Samsung US site (oops was looking at S2 mount then)
Unfortunately it is not out till 1st Jan
still trying to figure out if youre able to access the power button on this. no one has been able to show it and its not visible in any images
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
looking at the images, it looks like there is a soft part of the dock where the power buttons are, so you might be able to push them through the dock. also, im very glad to see an aux out on the dock. Coming from the N1 dock that didn't have this, it will be a great addition.
Galaxy Note?!

anyways - £49.99 seems kinda harsh!
Anyone have some experience with the Exomount Universal Car Mount? I've heard good things about it and it seems like a good deal.
The exomount looks quite nice, but I have just opted for a cheap ebay one which folds nice and compact for the glovebox. I don't mount my phone very often any more, only when I need a bit of sat-nav and I know my common routes pretty well.

The aux out is AMAZING. I use a desktop dock and a Moshimoshi desktop phone that plugs into my N1. I have to plug it IN to the phone every time I put the phone into the dock, kind of obviating the purpose of a dock.
Totally thrilled about the pogo pins, surprised they figured out a way to carry audio through them AND power while still keeping them simple.

If it's anything like the Nexus one dock, audio is routed via Bluetooth. The 3 pogo-pins are (2) for power and the third transmits a simple code to tell the phone which dock it is in. When docked, Bluetooth is switched on, a new options page shows up in settings for audio routing. The night-stand clock is also automatically started (or car home if inserted in the car dock).
On another note, the desk and car docks for the nexus one were not available until several months after the phone came out. Surely the logistics of making these available at the same time are not that difficult.
-AS-
for £50 it should be made of carbon fibre or contain an independent battery.

Flexible width for side grip (Width :6 cm ~ 7 cm)
You better hope its 7.... Nexus width is 67.9mm
One "Universal" dock they tried to sell me in the shop didnt fit the GN... I made the sales man try it and he almost broke the dock trying to squeeze the GN in.

Official Samsung Epic 4G Touch D710 car mount review

I just received and installed the official Samsung car mount. Physically, it has incredible build quality. Both the suction piece and the actual arm look and feel as if they were designed to withstand people trying to break it. The aesthetics are also top notch. Performance is what I was looking for. I no longer have to plug in my headphone jack into my phone every time I get in the car. I can now pop my phone in and leave Pandora running with the screen on without worrying about being distracted when changing songs or draining battery life. The adjustments available are perfect for me since I mounted mines on the windshield. If you want to mount it somewhere else using the plastic dash piece they give you, the fixed arm and adjustable joint may not provide you with as much mobility as you'd need--depending on where you mount it.
This dock is easily worth the $36 I paid for it, that much I know for certain. I have a similar dock from when I had my iPhone 3GS and it looks flimsy and cheap compared to the Samsung mount even though both cost approximately the same. For the price, the dock and charger combo are hard to beat. It's also a lot more convenient to use than a dock that doesn't have the phone connections built in.
All in all, I'm incredibly satisfied with the purchase.
In case you're wondering how it hooks up, here's a youtube link for the T-mobile Galaxy S2 that another user posted. The Sprint version is exactly the same, except for adjustments made to the flexible plastic to fit our phone.

No problem. Be sure to note that it may not fit your phone if you use a case. I haven't pushed the charger yet to see how much of a load it can handle before the energy use by the phone outpaces the power supplied by the charger. Thus far, I've only run Pandora with the screen on a 100% of the time and it still charged the phone a good amount. I'm hoping I eventually get the chance to test out google maps or navigation with pandora running to see how the charger holds up against that type of drain.
i have this, very happy with it so far.
Question: How does the phone know it's docked to activate Car Mode? Is there a magnet in the dock that the phone picks up on like the old DROIDs?
Based on this review, I've ordered one of the mounts for myself. I'll report back when it comes in!

I believe it detects a certain resistance or short across a couple of the USB pins.
