BRICKED PHONE. Installed I9100 rom on tmobile galaxy s2. PLEASE HELP - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi, I accidentally installed the wrong rom on my phone. Now it won't boot. And i've tried the method where you hold the volume buttons and then the power button, and then use the odin recovery method to get back to stock android. But it doesn't work because I can't get into download mode by holding the volume and power buttons.
WHAT DO I DO? any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

You are not the first person I have seen do this so my suggestion would be to do a little searching and find out what others have done. I am new to the Tmobile variant of this phone but I had the Epic Touch which is the Galaxy 2 on Sprint and I got into download mode with a Jig. <--- you can buy one on ebay they are real cheap
I believe they also work for this phone. Or from what I hear most just go through insurance...

That's not how you get into download mode though. Holding volume down and volume up then pressing power button will get you to recovery.
Download mode is, with phone completely off. Hold volume up and down buttons then plug the phone into your USB. I'd try that. Wouldn't see why download mode isn't available from flashing a ROM in recovery. Download mode usually goes away by flashing something stupid in ODIN. Good luck!

that should deff work...if you need help just ask...ill help you...i bricked my phone like 5 times... (soft bricked)...androids are hard to brick...but what you did MIGHT be a hard brick...but download mode and odin should help...also...not to be a smartass...but you said you did it by accident...but you had to put the file on ur sd card...and then go into cwm...and then actually pick the file twice in order for it to flash...

Download Mode?

I am think about trying some different ROMs on my phone and I wanted to be sure I could get into Download Mode before I tried any Flashing. Can someone point me to directions how to find out if I can get into this Mode before I try any thing else. I have AT&T Captivate if that matters.
Thanks

i think its pressing the Volume up and down when you power it on, you could try google tho
You do it by holding down the volume up and down keys while the phone is off and plugged into your computer after the download screen comes up you can release the buttons , thats how I did it for odin after I bricked my phone. I also just tested it.
Everything I have read and works for me personally, hold both volume buttons then plug in the usb cable with odin already running on your computer. Also, you will need to know how to boot into recovery. If your phone has 3 button recovery, hold both volume buttons, then press and hold the power button while still holding the volume buttons. Hold all 3 buttons until you see the at&t screen the second time and release all the buttons and you will enter recovery mode.

[Q] Noob Bricked after CWM attempt

Hi All
After successfully rooting I though I would go the next stage and install CWM , in my haste I must of done something wrong and after resetting the phone it wont turn on. I have tried a factory reset, wont turn on, tried pulling battery etc no luck. When I plug it into the computer I get a searching for QHSUSB_DOWN driver which never succeeds and running the LG update utility just says phone not connected...ANY help would be sincerely appreciated...!!!
Can you get into download mode by pulling the battery out, then put it back, press and hold volume up button and press power button.
If download mode works, then follow the unbricking solution.
Thanks for the quick response and nope no luck!

You can't get into download mode like that (just tried it to verify). You have to power off the device, hold volume up then plug in usb to get into download mode.
either way have had no luck, seems it is going back to warranty....

Volume up button disabled - can't get into download mode

Hey guys, I've bought a galaxy s2 (t-mobile) and tried to root it. I held the vol up and down button while holding the power button, got into "press up to continue, down to cancel" screen, but I keep pressing up and nothing happens?!
The volume up button does work when the phone is on and I can make the ringer louder, but not during the download mode. Is there a fix?

are you trying to get into download/odin mode? if so you hold up/down and insert the usb cable while still holding down the up/down. I didn't think power button was involved in the matter but maybe there are 2 ways. Anyhow, try that maybe it'll work.. Did you update the phone to ics thru kies yet? Maybe that flash could do something helpful..

Sorry, I did mean that with the holding up/down button and USB cable. I am trying to get into download/odin mode. But I only get to the screen where it says to push volume up to continue, or down to cancel. It is the right screen, I just cant push up, nothing happens...
Also, I did not try to update the phone to ics thru kies yet. How do I do that?? You mean the regular software update in the settings menu?

Ok, so I updated to 4.0.3 via Kies and now have ICS on the phone. I tried booting into odin/download mode, and once I'm in the warning screen "A custom OS can cause critical.....bla bla bla.....Volume Up: Continue, Volume down: Cancel (restart phone), the volume up button does NOT work and still seems disabled.
The button itself (up button) is not broken, as it works when the phone is on to make the ringer louder.
Any other ideas? I'm really confused why it won't work ??
Anyone? Any help would be great
same problem here
If u can get into recovery mode and r using cmw hit both up/down buttons at the same time. Ill take a thumb and place it in the middle of the buttons then push them (dont hold them tap them) after doing this itll say something like rockers disabled or something like that. When I used cmw Ive done that a few times and didnt know it and when in cwm I couldnt use the volume buttons anymore to make a selection. Do this to enable the buttons in recovery mode I never noticed if it only took effect in both modes or just in recovery mode but its worth a shot.

Can enter recovery but not download mode

I'm not sure what is going on with my e4g. I am trying to just get back to factory from Calkulin 3.0 but I can't even get download mode to stay up. Once i get to download mode, my phone just reboots. I have tried flashing again form recovery but then I get the phone up and running and the power button wont work. Could it be the actual physical button?

Sounds like button. But also on some older versions of CWM you had to 'cycle' through the volume up and down buttons a few times to get them to function properly. pressing down, down down, up, up up. etc.
Also try powering off. Pull the battery for a full 2 earth minutes.
Then put hte battery in. And when your ready to power on press and hold the Power Button AND the Volume Down button till you get to the first screen (download mode questionaire) then use the Volume up key to confirm.
Hopefully that will work. But it could be your button or some other issue.
Once in download mode start an Odin One-Click from sfhub or rwilco12 on your PC.
Then plug your phone in to you PC and install it.
Good luck.
If you still can't get it to work, Rom Toolbox Pro (and most likely the lite version as well) has a rebooter that will do a number of things, including put you into download mode.

Thanks guys. Cant even get it to install from SD in CWM recovery now. I can get to the download screen for odin but it immediately reboots itself once you hit volume up

Hellooooo Sprint store, give me new phone...
If you can get to CWM can't it reboot into download mode without pressing anything?
Or if you can boot into the ROM how about from ADB or terminal "reboot download"?
Only other thing I can suggest - and it depends on what CWM you have and what ROM/kernel you have - is wiping and flashing through CWM or restoring a backup. But I would suggest putting that on here and wait for someone to verify whether it's safe or not to do. (Agat's ICS kernel + repacks are safe, for example.)
thanks to those who offered suggestions. I went to the sprint store and it was in fact a "sticky" power button. They said it was a $35 fee for non insured phones but they did mine for free! score! thanks again guys

Help bootlogo trap nothing works

OKAY so i enjoyed flashing around and suddenly i got soft bricked. I cant for the life of me get paassed the "samsung galaxy s3 bootlogo.
Ive tried
1)fLAshing with Odin
2)goiing into recovery mode to wipe my phone factory reset.
Is there anything else i can do? please help i love this phone lol
Make sure you were actually in download mode when you flash with Odin. (power + volume down + home key. Then press volume up when it prompts you to go into download mode) otherwise, have you tried flashing a different custom rom? It might just be a bad kernel.

(eg: for Odin)
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode.
To get out of Download Mode, simply press and hold the power button until the phone restarts
for recovery mode
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME UP' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 5 seconds to enter Recovery Mode.

So dude, make sure you're using the right ROM for the right model. since you didn't provide any of that info in the OP you may not get much help from here.
