Google Maps offline download paused/failed - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi,
I have the stock Jelly Bean 4.1.1 installed and ever since I've bought the phone about 2 weeks ago I'm trying to download maps on google maps for offline usage. Unfortunately this never worked for me even on 4.0.4.
Whenever I choose the region in maps and press on "DONE" it takes me to the offline screen showing me that it has failed download with a resume button which does nothing apart from giving me a notification saying "Download paused".
My guess was It's because of full storage but my storage is not even half used.

Is nobody here with the same problem?
I'm very surprised that the offline feature doesn't work especially because I'm using the stock ROM from the start.

I doubt this is a problem with the Maps application.
It must be your phone internet connection, my offline map downloads work fine.

Mine was doing that on ICS and I gave up on it,
Updated to GB today and now it appears to be working have you tried smaller / different areas of map to cache offline ?

I wouldn't call GB a update though
I have 3 map areas downloaded and i didn't have any issues with the download
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus

Yes, I have tried several different sized and zones. No luck.

I've also tried to do this via WiFi and mobile connection. None of them have worked for me.

After I added the download I have tried to remove it again but it doesn't even do that. That gives me the impression it's a problem of the maps app.

I had the same idea. Unfortunately nothing happens when I clear the cache of Maps. It stays at 7.79MB. Maybe there is a way to force or manually clear the cache?

I had the same issue. I couldn't resume downloading either.
I rebooted the phone, loaded Google maps and asked to cache a new area. It showed me my previous downloading task and a new one. The old one was already paused - do NOT resume it. Press on a triangle on its right side, select Cancel and confirm cancellation. After that my new cache downloading task has started working immediately.

I've tried this just now two times. After I hit resume the phone shows me a short notification with "Download paused". Odd.

I'm facing a similar problem, can't delete cache. deleted data and retried. also tried adding another mape to be made available offline so that it's queued and then cancelling the previous one. don't know what's going on here.

I was having the same issue and tried all mentioned above without success... here is what finally worked:
1. Uninstalled last update
2. Force closed the App (Settings > Apps > All)
3. Deleted cached data
4. Reinstalled most recent update

How do you uninstall last update?

Can someone tell me where this offline data is stored in sdcard as I have to make a backup of it in my pc, this data is about 60mb. I have searched Android/data folder and /data floder but no luck, plz help.

I tried to download an area today with the latest maps update now showing better error messages. It seems to be a storage error. My guess it's permission related.

Mine was not giving an error, but the download of the map area always just sat at 0%. Following these steps fixed it for me.
Oddly enough, it was doing this on my Samsung phone and Asus tablet.

Yeah I've had this problem recently too - I just deleted all of the Maps app's data and cache and then it worked. Make sure to force the app closed too (there's a handy setting on CM9 which allows holding of the back key to force close an app).

What worked for me finally on my s7. Updated google maps and then deleted old maps. However it was still not working so i switched off perfectly working wifi and turned on 4G. It worked like a charm. Maps downloaded finally.

...:::YOUR BATTERY'S ANTIDOTE IS BEING DISPENSED BY:::...
<<<<---------<<TEAM VeNuM>>--------->>>>

PERMANENTLY DISABLE BATTERY-DRAINING SERVICES:
INTRO
After receiving permission from RandomKing, I began adjusting his SUPERFREEZE script and successfully ported it over from the OG Epic 4G to our Epic Touch 4G! It basically takes four specific commands(listed right below this intro) and combines them into one, single word, superfreeze, which can then be used instead to execute their actions. The script is used to PERMANENTLY disable all four services managed by the commands(the services being DRM, SYSTEM UPDATES, MEDIAHUB & SOCIALHUB). In addition to superfreeze, superdefrost(used to re-enable the services) is added to the bin folder as well. And to give you any idea of how well your device may perform after disabling these services, last night my phone drop only 1% b/w 1am - 7am, thats 1% every 6 hours!!!
This is what superfreeze actually does for you:
Code:
[B]pm disable com.sec.android.providers.drm(DRM)
pm disable com.sec.android.socialhub(SOCIALHUB)
pm disable com.samsung(SYSTEM UPDATES)
pm disable com.sdgtl.mediahub.spr(MEDIAHUB)[/B]
[SIZE="1"]****not yet added BUT is highly recommend to execute the following command****[/SIZE]
[B]pm disable com.sec.android.app.sns(SNS)[/B]
The purpose of this post is to save your battery as much juice as possible, so if you would rather not download this mod and flash it through CWM, you could just type the above commands in a Terminal emulator. It will take you all but 1-2mins, without the need of downloading and installing any 3rd party apps that will not only take up space, but will also use up your battery and system resources. The end result will be the same, which is to PERMANENTLY disable the following services, only using these commands/script is free, and requires no battery or system resources to maintain them disabled!
SERVICES AFFECTED BY USING THE MOD
-DRM-
Digital Rights Management - I haven't noticed any difference when playing back streaming/downloaded media. Disabling this, or any other services listed below, will not have an adverse effect on your system, besides that on battery life, BUT REMOVING them may cause issues....
...:::UPDATE - Since Starburst v1.8 has removed all of these mentioned services, there's no longer a need for a separate version. Just flash the ROM and these services will be DELETED from the get-go BUT proceed with caution as random reboots are present. FYI I'm currently on another ROM which also has the lock mod and none have reported ANY reboots yet:::...
-SYSTEM UPDATES-
When using a custom ROM its best to NOT update using anything that is OTA distributed, so why have this kept running?
...:::Only if you need to update PRL or PROFILE, listed under SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>SYSTEM UPDATES, do you need to re-enable this service using the superdefrost command:::...
-MEDIAHUB-
I have never used this app and it too is contstantly listed under RUNNING APPS
-SOCIALHUB-
Have only used it a few times w/ my text messages, and being that its constantly listed under RUNNING APPS, I'd rather have more battery life and disable it
....::::NOT YET INCLUDED(working on having more than four disabled in one shot)::::....
-SNS-
Social Network Services - does NOT effect the Facebook app available in the Market. Is usually listed as a cached process, so even though it may not be consuming as much battery as the rest of these services, it is using some and system resources.
As of now, the script is only allowing four services to be successfully disabled. Whenever an addition line of command is entered it combines two and causes errors. In the meantime, to save more battery life, enter the command listed above, found underneath the INTRO, to disable the SNS service
DISCLAIMER: Use at your own risk. In no way, shape or form will any member of Team VeNuM or myself be held responsible if anything were to happen to your device or your life by flashing anything posted on here!!!

I'm running SB 1.7 (great rom) and when I check under running it only lists social hub. Is there a way to just remove this via root explorer to avoid having to use this mod?
Hi there,
This seems cool but I had a question.
If you're stopping SNS, media hub and social hub... If I'm using the application autostarts (which allows you to control when an app/service starts based off actions i.e.- sms sent, boot up, outgoing call etc)... Do I really even need this?
Seems like this is doing what autostarts does but it's free?
Thanks for the feedback and good work!!
Thanks, giving it a try!
tried, after putting in the command, it only said that the hub was disabled. and in running services, drm was still going...
also, would i have to reenter this everytime i reboot or is it perm?
...also.. question, when you said that only 1% is lost at night, is that with 3g and everything off? my battery isnt astounding because i use it aaa lottt , but when i go to sleep, i turn data, background, etc. off and wake up with only 1% lost also...

What this does is PERMANENTLY disables all four of those services, w/o having to deleting them...Im not too familiar w/ autostart, but from what Im reading, its preventing these services from starting during specified actions, however, if an action that is not listed/controlled by that application takes place, the service will start vs the mod not allowing the services to start at all, during ALL, listed and unlisted actions...hope this helps, and thanks!

Not through Root Explorer but through a terminal emulator...I will post the individual commands in a minute, along w/ some screen shots

BTW, running StarBurst 1.7

Yea, I posted in OP that the 1st flash may give an error and to reflash w/o reboot if possible, its kinda hard to tell unless your looking for it, unfortunately I can't take a screenshot of CWM but it basically says "install aborted" at the very end of the flashing process after everything else goes through fine...Im glad you got it to work though!

What does deep freeze do? Im not familiar w/ TB....all I can do ATM is advise you that this mod is free, and it will PERMANENTLY disable all four of those services, never allowing them to be ran/turned back on for ANYTHING, no matter w/ action is taken or what app is opened, it will remain disable unless you re-enable it through ADB or a terminal emulator
Wanted to check this out with viperrom and it flashed fine first try but i got a couple errors/permission denied when i ran the script so i thought id post the screenshot and see what you guys think

[Q]{SOLVED} SGH-I747 Mysterious loss of LTE Connection After Reboot/Power Cycle

Hello all,
So I have been trying to isolate this issue for 2 days now.
Basically, when coming from a fresh and clean restore of the Stock ROM (Firmware), after installing a few apps from the Play Store (Chrome, SwitchPro, Twitter and Facebook), after rebooting or powering off the phone, LTE Service stops functioning and I am stuck with HSPA+ (AT&T 4G) or less (connectivity is still automatic - e.g. calls and data still work, but LTE never returns).
I've tried several different approaches at isolating the issue, and at one point I narrowed it down to Chrome being the culprit, but then after a fresh wipe, I installed only Chrome and had no issues.
Searching around here on XDA hasn't brought me to any specifics either.
I can force LTE only via the *#2263# code, but then I lose voice capabilities.
Something is blocking LTE, obviously
At this point I have to avoid installing any of the above listed apps (particularly Chrome).
Things I've done:
Rooted
Installed CWM
Boot to Recovery and Formatted all Partitions
Entered Download Mode
Used Desktop ODIN to Restore Stock Firmware
Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues or know of a solution?
I reveted back completely from any and all root related elements to try and solve this issue but it persists
Let me know if you need more info or have any questions.
Thanks,
***UPDATE***
Issue was Resolved in Last Thread Post by me (see link below):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31003687&postcount=6
[Moved from OP]
***UPDATE***
I conducted another test and simply after logging into my Google account on my phone and then restarting reproduced the loss of LTE.
Does anyone know how I can effectively wipe any and all device stored data from Google's servers?
I think (although I did not enable the option) my phone is pulling down corrupt device settings from the Google server.
[Moved from OP]
***CONCLUSION***
As it turned out, there appears to be a bug in the Stock ROM where even when the auto backup feature is not enable, the Auto Restore of App Data is enable and functioning regardless.
Due to an issue with a custom ROM or GApps package previously used, some incompatible Data settings somehow got associated to the Play Store app.
As well, the base version of the Play Store app in the Stock ROM is not up-to-date. So once the phone connected to the network for data, it automatically updated the Play Store and restored the bogus Data settings.
The fix involved clearing the Play Store app data and cache, and uninstalling the update as well as completely disabling all backup and restore settings in the system settings app of the phone.
Sure glad thats over now.
I hope this thread may help someone else in the future.
[Moved from OP]
***REGRESSION***
Back to square one...
Factory Reset > Boot Phone > Reboot Phone anytime during or after initial setup = No More LTE
[Moved from OP]
***POST FAILURE THOUGHTS***
At some point in time I requested the SIM Unlock Code directly from AT&T for my phone and validated unlock status with a U.S. T-Mobile SIM Card.
This is the only thing left for me to think that might have triggered these issues. That the phone (in its newer unlocked state) now defaults to HSPA+ (AT&T 4G) is what I'm thinking.
What still makes no sense to me is, why on first boot of a completely wiped and restored phone, does LTE function as expected. But, once the phone is powered off and/or rebooted, LTE disappears on boot.
Someone, anyone, help... PLEASE!!!

[Success] Issues Resolved
Yesterday evening I made my way to the local AT&T Wireless store assuming I'd get my phone replaced since the issue seemed to be specific to my phone.
While at the store it was determined that I would have to go to a warranty center (a 20 min drive from where I was) that wasn't open at the time (I would have needed to wait until tomorrow/today).
So, instead we (the associate and I) tried to troubleshoot the phone in the store.
We tested my phone with one of their SIM cards, and wouldn't you know it, LTE worked fine on my phone with their SIM card.
So the associate set me up with a new SIM card, but that didn't seem to fix the problem.
So he then looked in to the settings of the phone and went ahead and toggled the Data Roaming option.
At first we didn't think this would help since I wasn't in an area where roaming would occur, but to our surprise, LTE became available.
We ran through other tests like rebooting the phone, power cycling it and factory resting the device.
All tests passed.
I still don't know what caused the issue with my phone nor how we actullay resolved the problem, but it is now gone...

Every app has got some standard error codes and all of a sudden you generally get to see the Errors like “Error 491” or for say some error number followed by the message. So let’s take an example of Google PLAY Store which too comes with some of the errors. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t expand the error codes, but all thanks to the folks at XDA who has come up with the expansion of Google PLAY Store error codes. So let’s check out on what the various error codes which are generated and what does that mean. Not just error codes, but we will also be checking out on what are the problems associated with that particular error code along with the solution to fix the same.
Error 491 / Error 481:
Problem: Download & Updates are not possible
Solution: Remove your google account if the problem persists even after checking out your internet connectivity and clearing the cache from the Google PLAY Store app. The cache can be cleared from the Settings. Once removed, restart your device and then re associate your Google account with your Google phone. You can clear the cache from the “Settings > Apps” and swipe to all your apps to clear the clear the data from the “Google Services”.
Error 498:
Problem: Interruption of Downloads
Solution: Downloads are generally interrupted when the cache of your device is full. Delete unwanted apps from your device and restart the device in the recovery mode. In recovery mode, select “wipe / clear cache”. Do let us know in the comments section just in case if you wish to know on how to clear the cache from the recovery mode.
Error 919:
Problem: App gets downloaded, but doesn’t open once downloaded
Solution: Free your space by clearing either some of the apps or some files. Preferably, you can delete some of the large files like music, videos etc.
Error 403 / Error 413 / Error 504:
Problem: Downloading apps and updates are not possible
Solution: If you are using the proxy, then you need to remove the proxy. Clear the cache from the “Settings > Apps” and swipe to all your apps to clear the clear the data from the Google Services. Typically, this problem appears when there is no space in the Phone memory. You may also choose to move some apps to memory card.
Error 923:
Problem: Error while syncing Google account
Solution: Remove your google account and also you need to uninstall the apps from your device. Now, reboot your device in the recovery mode so that you can Select Wipe cache partition and all the cache part will be wiped off. Don’t worry as all your personal data will be safe.
Error 921 / error rpc:aec:0]:
Problem: Unable to Download any App
Solution: If you are using the proxy, then you need to remove the proxy. Clear the cache from the “Settings > Apps” and swipe to all your apps to clear the clear the data from the Google Services. Typically, this problem appears when there is no space in the Phone memory. You may also choose to move some apps to memory card which will in turn save the space in your device memory.
Error 492:
Problem: Dalvik Cache issue
Solution: Head over to the Google Services app from your installed apps and clear all the data present in that app. Just in case if this doesn’t solve the purpose, you need to clear the cache from the recovery mode. Make sure that the recovery mode is installed in your device.
Error 911 / Error 919:
Problem: App couldn’t be downloaded
Solution: This is an authentication error. This may occur when your WiFi network requires additional authentication. At this instance, you need to make sure that you have complete internet access. Probably in this case, you need to use your mobile network data services instead of wifi. Turn wifi off and then turn your data on and now open your google play store and download/update your apps or games. Error 919 is somewhat a similar case which is caused due to improper APN Settings.
Error rh01 / Error rpc:s-5:aec-0 / RPC:S-3 error retrieving information from server:
Problem: Error retrieving from Server
Solution: Delete the apps which are not required and preferably which are in the deice memory and restart the device in the recovery mode. In recovery mode, select “wipe / clear cache”. Do let us know in the comments section just in case if you wish to know on how to clear the cache from the recovery mode. You may also choose to re pair your Google account if the error persists.
Package File Invalid:
Problem: Cache or File error
Solution: You may choose to clear the cache from your device and also you can choose to restart the device and add back your Google account. This one also happens when the package / app is not signed properly.

PixelExperience
What is this?
Pixel Experience is an AOSP/CAF based ROM, with Google apps included and all Pixel goodies (launcher, wallpapers, icons, fonts, bootanimation)
Our mission is to offer the maximum possible stability and security, along with essential features for the proper functioning of the device
PixelExperience_dragon-9.0-20190624-1228-UNOFFICIAL.zip
Known issues:
- Encryption seems not work - and has not been tested. -> Pls do not encrypt your data partition yet.
- Keymaster -> If you set Pattern, PIN or Password the Screen unlock may not work correctly.
Workaround for Pattern: On fresh boot you will need to wait a bit longer before you enter credentials.
The waiting time is required on fresh boot only, the following unlocks are working normally.
In case of problems pls use Update.ZIP_TWRP_flashable_pattern_pin_remover_V2.zip to remove pattern/pin or password.
Installation:
1. Boot into TWRP (latest available version)
2. Wipe system, cache, dalvik and data partitions ! ( If you have encrypted /data partition - pls "format" /data via TWRP first ! )
3. Install ROM.zip
4. install Magisk.zip
5. Reboot into system ..
- The ROM does contain it's own vendor.img !
- This ROM does include Gapps already !

Amazing thank you for keeping this tablet alive!
Simply awesome. Fantastic job. The best Pixel C custom rom.

Got this installed today and currently using to write this message. I'm confused regarding the known issues though....
I set a PIN as it wasn't specifically mentioned, but I could not login at next reboot at all. Every time I entered the PIN, the screen would refresh back to the PIN login screen. I tried again many times, left it 10 minutes but nothing worked so I had to factory reset from TWRP in order to gain access to the tablet again.
Perhaps I have misinterpreted the known issues?
Only other problems I had was the following:
- Wifi drops off sometimes for no reason, then comes back about 10 seconds later
- Couldn't use default two-factor authentication when logging in with my Google account (i.e.. Press 'Yes' on your phone), I had to use Google Authenticator to generate a code instead. Having said this, after the factory reset, it worked this time.
- Couldn't setup the device first time around as it was unresponsive and slow, a reboot fixed this
- Can't seem to drag apps on my home screens on top of eachother to create folders, whatever I do they always seem move the other app rather than create a new folder.
And for the record, I was stock before this, followed the instructions above (Obviously had to unlock bootloader before installing TWRP for the first time).
Only issue I've seen so far is the normal navigation buttons the recents button is missing

Wasn't that a bug we all had when we went from Android 7 to 8?
Using another launcher stops it.

Yeah I also had issues creating a new app shortcut (by dragging an app icon from the list of apps to the home screen). Installed a different launcher and that's those problems dealt with. WiFi seems to be fine now too so could have been a local issue.
All in all, it's great to see Pie on the Pixel C, it deserves it too because the hardware is still outstanding, even in today's market.
Thank you followmsi
Thank you!
Thanks! I'm running it right now!
I have no problem creating folders on the desktop. The way to do it is to approach the icon in the upper left, diagonally. At least that's how it works for me

I will add "pin" to known issues on first page too.
Encryption/keymaster is not working correctly on all Pie ROMs.

You can try this method to turn on recent buttons.
adb shell settings put secure sysui_nav_bar "space, recent;home;back, space"

followmsi - Just to clarify (before I go locking myself out completely!) - If I set a pattern unlock (NOT Pin or Password), I will be able to unlock my device properly after waiting a while??

For me it works like this .. waiting a bit longer before first pattern unlock.
Otherwise.. have a look here.

Thanks for the prompt responses. One more question which I'm yet to solve regarding the 30 second bootloader unlocked wait during boot.
I've heard that if I relock the bootloader, the device will lose root and wipe itself. I don't mind a wipe, nor do I use root. So if I were to relock the bootloader, would it still boot up OK into this current ROM? Others have said it could brick the device!.....?
Thanks for this great ROM! I've been waiting for a proper Pie ROM for a long time!
I got no issues with the PIN. Got a 8 numbers PIN and it works great.
Only issue I have is the folder thing but it does not matter as I got not much apps on my tablet!
I got an issue with a notification telling me that the setup was not finished and tapping on it brought a "OK" button and a white page... Tapping OK would get rid of the notification but it would eventually come back a couple minutes later. A reboot solved this issue.
camera not working at all ...
First of all: Thank you so much!!!
wonderful ROM.
Just: the camera is not working.
Any ideas / experiences with that?
costlyman seems to have the same problem.
EDIT: working now after a few restarts - and I don't know.
Thank you in advance.

Question Cannot access Google

Hello,
Just got the tablet, it was really quick. Ordered when it went for sale in Italy on Thursday and today Friday morning already received it.
Maybe I'm one of the first to receive the tablet with Global ROM, but I'm going to ask anyway:
I cannot add my Google account. The error is always "There was a problem communicating with Google servers"
Is this tablet so new that it still cannot connect to Google?! Has anyone had similar problems? I also tried to install last Google Play Services from apkmirror.
ROM is 12.5.1 Global Stable
Thanks!
EDIT: Solved. After trying to clear app data, installing apks, checking autostart permissions etc, decided to try factory reset and everything started working. Kind of crazy that before starting to use a new device had to do factory reset, if you ask me.
what is the version of your firmware? im planning to buy one
same to me. i cannot access with my google account. How do you resolved @tikkalamt? i update also google play services and restore back to factory reset but i don't resolve this issue. miui 12.5.1 global.
Same here. MIUI 12.5.2. Google Account can not be added.
same problem even after two factory reset, a solution please?
Interesting. I have a similar problem yet not the same. I wanted to use the device for my job and we use Microsoft Intune to create an enterprise profile in Android devices.
Outside of this enterprise area everything works fine. I can set up a Google account without problems. But when I open the enterprise PlayStore I see the error message "Error while retrieving information from server DF-DFERH-01".
It sounds like those two problems are in a way related to each other...
I also have MIUI 12.5.2 and up-to-date Play Services...
I had the same problem. I could solve it after factory reset and Android setup ask If you would like transfer files from other phone and vola account transferred.
It is a google server problem. It's a problem known by xiaomi. I turn off wifi, put in airplaine mode. Then wifi on and i don't know why i access with my google account.
Same thing on Second Space.
Using Global ROM in France, everything works great on First Space. Cannot ad a Google account on Second Space. It's a shame since I bought this tablet for two persons. I really hope this will get fix soon.
I tried deleting Google Apps data etc… nothing works.
Mine worked normally come with MIUI 12.5.4.0 RKXMIXM

anyone have issues with google backup? can't seem to do any backup, It will only say.
"Couldn't backup data, Try again later"
Tried on other phone works fine, factory resets the device still doesn't work, turning off screen lock and reboot also doesn't work, tried force backup by adb it would say Transport Error.

I have the same problem with the second profile. If you completely reset the pad again, do not add a Google account during the initial setup and then first set up the second account, it should supposedly work. But I haven't tried it myself because I don't want to reset the first profile.

Same to me with Global rom in Xiaomi mi pad 5 Chinese version! Need an expert give some solutions
Same on EU version. Also receiving notifications that Google Backup is not working
Same with mi mipad 5, unable to login on google account in the second space... Works with my xiaomi smartphone.
Xiaomi support asked me to add a comment directly in the setting section of the device (services and comments section) to try to get a fix... I think other people concerned should do the same to prove xiaomi it is really mandatory to fix this.

I had the same problem, after multiple factory resets (each time I went to second space first, to check out if it is already working with google) I setup my second space first (without adding an account to my "first" space) and it is working ok since than. But unfortunately not all options are available in the second space (for example you cannot add youtube as multitasking app).
I am having similar problem. After unboximg i couldn’t Connect to google server. But after factory reset i was able to add google account.but later when i wanted to add another google account i could not. It goes to lock screen and after swiping up its shows " checkin info.." and it goes on for ever. Another problem is it doesn’t backup in google. I did clear data of playstore and play service several times but no luck. Seems like it is a problem for everyone. They should have polished their software before releasing this tab.
If it can help, after wiping google apps data to try to make this work, I was out of my account even on the first space, even after reboot (with the same error), but by going to the 3 dots "..." -> Updates in the Play Store app, I was able to see the error code "df-dferh-01" which lead me to https://www.nextpit.com/google-play-not-working#uninstall / https://theandroid.in/df-dferh-01/, which mentions uninstalling the google app updates as a solutions, which looked like the situation of @amacar (you can login after a fresh wipe) .. and it worked for me !
So here's what I did (without wipe) :
* Go to Apps, show all
* Google Play Store -> uninstall updates
* Google Play Services -> uninstall updates (after this the app list disappear)
* You can go to the Play store and login
* Repeat for the other space if necessary
Edit: this is also a solution proposed at https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7513003
"They should have polished their software before releasing this tab."
Sadly I think this is what to expect, with some issues probably to stay for a long time. I also noticed that some medias in Plex are played with very fast video but normal audio (maybe Plex' fault but I'd bet on some MIUI customization) ..
