No google ears or google music search widget - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello guys
I installed Takju build and flashed OTA and i dont have the Google ears widget. I am not in US maybe that could be the reason. I want to know if i could sideload the widget. If possible please provide me the apk.
Cheers

Google Ears is there, but it's frozen if you, like me, are not in the US.
Use Titanium Backup (needs Root) to defrost it. But It will freeze again if you reboot the phone.
Other frozen apps are Google Movies, Magazines, Books and Wallet. Obviously these doesn't work outside US but Ears does.
Cheers!

Books work in many countries outside of the US (they work here in Germany). Magazines, music, and movies still don't work here in Germany though

I mean google didnt have to link the widget to play store. they could have just given the widget to everyone just for identifying music. There are plenty of app to do that but google's was minimalistic and i like it

I didn't know that. In Venezuela none of those apps work.
I would have frozen those if I had the chance. Except Google Ears.
Now I'm trying to find any script that disable (freezes) those apps at startup. Any help will be great.
Cheers!

I do have Google Sound Search (Google Ears???) ...
My phone is yakju, bought in Europe and I live in Europe (NL).
My Google account is European based.
I set my phone to English (US) ... as always with all my phones.

+1 MCR is able to do this, looking for permanent solution. TQ :highfive:

What you can do is uninstall the app using Titanium Backup. Reboot. Install the apk from here. Now it's there forever. Unless you uninstall it obviously.

Tried your version but It's not working...

The only way to get Play Music and Google Ears working (permanent without any "freezing", which is a term that does not even exists) is to factory restore your phone and set everything without a SIM card inside, while connecting to a US IP VPN Wi-Fi. Then, you will be able to install Play Music Music and Search Music widget. Obviously, you will need a Google Music account... Once you set everything, place the widget on one page and test it, it will work and open the Play store for the song you searched. Then, insert your SIM card and reboot the phone, the Ears and Play Music will continue to function properly but you will lose the Magazines and Music sections in your Play store.

Hmm .. didn't need to do anything so major. The Ears apk that I attached to my last post installed as a normal apk, and is working after reboot! The other services such as Play Music/Books etc are already working without any problem on this Rom, but thanks for your suggestion!

Can you find Google Earth in the Market?

UPDATE: this thread is not needed anymore. Everything is working fine now, read this.
I can't find Google Earth in the Market on my Defy.
If you can, please post here your build.prop, ROM, firmware, and all the info you can gather. If you don't know how to do this, you can ask here or PM me and I'll help.
I am asking this because I suspect there is a problem on the Google's side validating Defy's fingerprints, and with enough info from somebody that can find and download Google Earth from the Market, we could fix it
Here is a QRCode with a direct link for your convenience:

When i had the 2.34 blurless rom with the JIT update, i could'nt find that app;
but now with the chinese 2.2 froyo i've installed google earth in the defy through the market.
I think the problem came with the market update. When you go to settings-applications-market and you uninstall the update you will see google earth again and other apps that are missing after the market update like vplayer. The problem will be back after the market is updated again automatically.
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
Nope. I uninstalled several times the update, searched with the old Market, and Google Earth didn't come up.
@ellendel, can you post your build.prop? It's located in /system/build.prop and you will need root.
I was unable to find google earth with the stock Android 2.1 US ROM and the updated market. Installed the 2.34 Central European ROM (still android 2.1) and was able to find google earth in the updated market(downloading it now).

I found my build.prop. Is there a way to insert it from my phone using the xda app? I won't have computer access for a while.

Interesting. I have Google Earth on my phone and runs great (T-MO USA Defy). But I can no longer find it on the market and it's no longer listed under my installed apps.

Maybe you can open it with Root Explorer and copy/paste it? Or upload it with the Dropbox app to your Public folder and post a link...
Have you tried installing from here:
http://www.google.com/mobile/earth/...-us-bk-earthandroid&utm_term=earth on android
That just redirects to the Market, which says that the requested element can't be found.
Anyway, just to be clear: this problem is not about Google Earth. It's about Google not recognizing Defy's full specifications. There are dozens of other apps that we can't download. I just chose Google Earth because it's supposed to be available everywhere.
If I wanted Google Earth I'd just download the APK somewhere else.

I wonder when and why it changed? I can't find it in the Market either, but I do have it installed already. I downloaded right after I bought the phone in Nov.
Try something. Go to Settings > Applications. Find Market and clean data and uninstall updates. Try searching Google Earth in the Market now.
Don't worry, minutes later the Market will be updated again to the current version.
Found this on another site, not sure if still works:
view the below link thru mobile browser.. it will automatically starts to download and install...

Actually just tried it on my computer and it gave me: google_earth.apk
Well, thank you. But read my other post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10650634&postcount=11
It's not about Google Earth, it's about why some apps are not in the Market.
Sorry, got lost on the journey. When I first got the G1 there was nothing on the market but a hundred different fart apps. (Yes, exaggeration). But I really did stop relying on the market and honestly can't recall where I got Earth as it does not show up as a market download.
Can you find Rocket Bunnies or Jet Car Stunts? Those don't appear for me, either.

Earth, Rocket Bunnies, and Jet Car Stunts now shows in the Market. I think it need to be updated (the Market that is). I happened to catch Lookout "Scanning Market", and I thought "Hm why?". As I looked up the Market in Applications I noticed the version was higher than the day before (I read around there was a new version, so I checked mine), so I looked up the apps that I couldn't find before, and boom, there they are.
You're right!
Market just updated from version 2002207 to 2002211 and Google Earth, Rocket Bunnies and Jet Car Stunts are appearing!
If somebody doesn't get the update: go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications. Uninstall Market updates and clear its data. Then enter the Market, close it, and a minute later you should have the new version.
Wheee!
I just checked its up now under free apps.

As a general rule, Google voice actions doesn't launch apps. It'll launch the dialer, messages, maps, navigation, the browser and some of those basic things.
There's a thread somewhere about the nexus 7 tablet manual that is free thru google play books that has a section with all the commands for the now search app. I don't have the link available.
It would suck if Google limited now's ability to Google's own apps. That's the worst thing about its retarded cousin, siri

I've got the same problem. Everytime I ask something (e.g. call xxxx, play song xxxx, what's the Yankee's score), it'll go to the browser. I went through all the settings and can't find anything.
If I remember correctly, launching Play Music via Google Now only works if you're in the US and the music is uploaded to the cloud.

Instead of 'play', have you tried to ask: 'listen to' --- [artist] or [song title]? It works for me. It should even ask you to choose between Google Music, YouTube, and any other music app you already have installed (like Rdio, Jango, Slacker, etc).
Also, make sure you've followed this guide on how to set up Google Now:

Same thing happens, Now will show the "link" to Google Music, but then the browser automatically opens up over it ... It also happens when I try "call xxx", the contacts open up (because of multiple phones for this person), but then almost immediately, a browser opens showing the Google results ...
There's gotta be a setting somewhere to disable auto browser results ....
If I say, "Text Melissa -text here-" it works. But if I say "Text Mom -text here-" it won't. I have to say "Send text to Mom" for it to send a text. Same with calling. So my suggestion is to play around with the wording.
Change your settings to 'always search from Google.com instead of your local domain.' Then it'll work. I'm in india, did this, and then it started showing cards/doing actual voice actions.

Go to settings>phone search and untick the browser setting. That should sort it.
You don't have to uncheck browser in settings. You can launch application by saying "launch [app name]".
Maybe you have to change both system language and voice input language to English(US).
I'm able to play music too even I'm outside US.

More info about Google Now
Ok, the option to listen to music works, but it will give you the option to listen to songs that you have stored in your phone with the default music application, it's not like it'll stream music from the web so use it confidently. Also, following all the set up instructions for Google Now exposed in a previous post helps a lot. A personal note: I would say that Google Now works pretty much better with searches on the web and in my experience S-Voice on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S3) works better with the phone's applications. Basically both of them are good, but each one has a strength tha the other does not. Hope it helps as the thread of this post helped me.

[APP] GooglePlay 3.9.16 Remove Entries From All Apps and more!!

Google Play Store 3.9.16 - Remove Entries From All Apps, Keep Track Of Position In Lists, Expandable Notifications, And More
Posted by Artem Russakovskii in Apps/Games, News

Google just started rolling out an updated Google Play Store version 3.9.16 that follows the previous version 3.8.17 from August. Good news, everyone - we've already got our hands on the APK for you to install manually thanks to our loyal tipsters.
What's New
The most notable and immediately apparent new feature is the long overdue ability to remove apps you've previously downloaded from the All Apps list. If you like to try a lot of apps, that list is likely very cluttered. With the new Google Play, you can trim it to your heart's content.
Update #1: You can multi-select by long-pressing any app in the list and then tapping more apps, then delete them all in one go (added 2 new screenshots demonstrating it).
Update #2: The new Play Store now keeps track of your location in lists, including My Apps and All Apps, so when you click into an app and back, it drops you into the same spot. I had variable luck with this, and it didn't seem to work in All Apps at first, but I just reproduced it on both the EVO LTE and the Nexus 7. Brilliant.
Update #3: The notification icon that shows up when you have app updates has changed, and notifications are now expandable. I've added more screenshots showing the differences.
Update #4: The notification icon after installing an app now shows the app icon instead of something generic.
The size of the Play Store APK actually went down, so Google must have trimmed some extra fat. We're still digging through everything - in the meantime, check out the screenshots and grab the new version from our mirrors.

Works for me too on SlimBean 2.6
About time they started doing something about that list, but ...
Google need to implement features to be able to sort lists, especially that All Apps list. In the past it used to be sorted by the date the app was last installed, but now it is on the date when the app was first ever installed on the account, which is annoying.
Sometimes when I do a full wipe, I like to do fresh isntalls of all my apps, and the All Apps used to be ready handy for that as all my recently installed apps (and most requently used) will be at the top and all the apps that I installed and removed and never used again would be at the bottom. Now its just a pain trying to scroll through that entire list. An option to sort it how I like would be priceless.
Multi dpi compatible?? I'm planning to use it on 208 dpi

These are the ones I disabled and had no problems, pretty sure most of the apps won't really do anything if you disable/delete them. I would try them out disabled first then if everything is fine then delete them.

Quickoffice is part of 4.2 stock - it's a MS Office viewer - you shouldn't see any negative results when you remove/disable it if you're using Kingsoft.
If you have any other specific QO questions, let me know!
Hi,
Just my two cent, dont delete or freeze FusedLocation (it's related to GPS and network) otherwise your phone will stuck on the bootanimation with a vibrating loop.
Strange that just a system app related to GPS and network do that but it's the case, tested twice (one with deleting the app and another one by freezing the app with Titanium) and I ended to the same result.
My question is this; I have frozen several of the above mentioned.. When we get the OTA updates will that impact the update at all?
When I was with draconian Verizon, the OTA would not occur unless all stock apps were visible/available.
Also, when I tried to uninstall the Google apps from the play store, it merely uninstalled the *updates*, not the app itself. I use TB to freeze or uninstall.
Rooted Nexus 4
I use titanium backup and uninstall a lot of apps.. Live wallpaper talkback pico tts magazines, Books Google music, Google chrome using AOSP browser, weather and news, Google Wallet doesn't work anyways!! Movie editor. There a quite too much to remember.. But No problems at all:good: Most of the ROMS actually remove some stuff...
Btw backup your apps you wanna uninstall.Uninstall it if your phone gives you problem then you know don't remove it!!

@gizmo9002 It seems that the video calls can only go through on the WiFi and not over cellular right now... Try using it over WiFi to confirm.

So there is no way to see which contacts are online using this right?
If you're on a computer, go to Google plus page and turn hangouts on, there is a green line under the picture of contacts who are online. My list of contacts that show are just frequently used ones though. I know this isn't the same but maybe it will show up in the app soon.

Strangely, no contacts show in my G+ hangouts sidebar either. Maybe it isnt implemented in my country or something. Because I removed the talk app from system and downloaded hangouts....

Mine comes and goes. If I log off hangouts and close g+ and wait a couple minutes usually the contacts show up after I go back into it.

Well its just been a day it rolled out. Hopefully all this will get ironed out eventually. Till then, i'm back to talk
I like it but i am stressing because I don't know when persons are online or not

It doesn't show status messages, status, nor does it allow you to set either one. This is a terrible step back from Google Talk. Not to mention it forcibly lumps all of your Google+ contacts in with your GTalk contacts.
That doesn't help me. I don't talk to those people. I use GTalk to talk to a select few people who have limited SMS per month and one person who uses a tablet with mobile data and a dumbphone.
Google really dropped the ball with this pile of junk app. The new iteration of the Music app isn't any better. They've been cocking everything up since the horrid 4.2 lockscreen abomination.
