[Q]Noob questions about Kernels - HTC One X

Hello everyone,
I am thinking to flash Viper Rom for my HOX. When i was reading the topic i noticed this part:
Team Venom Flasher V1.0
HTC Stock Kernel 2.05.401.2
Bricked Kernel v0.3 Sweep to Wake
Franco Kernel r12
Faux Kernel 004 Beta 1
Kholk Kernel v0.92b
So there is a more then 1 kernel. I want to know that if we can use multiple kernels at the same time or i'll have to choose one of them?
Thanks for answers

you have to choose one of them mate..no way you can use multiple ones...even though that sounds quite awesome unfortunately it will not work..and one i would recommend is stick with the HTC stock kernel...best one and reliable so far

Well thank you so much. As you said it would be awesome. I would really like to use swaype2wake kernel at the same time
So Stock Kernel it's is.

The stock kernel has no S2W support. If you want stock kernel WITH S2W you have to flash the Alex-V kernel. Other custom kernels also have this feature but they are more developed to serve its purpose !

Is there a changelog available somewhere?
Btw, I too noticed one small issue with smartass2. Maybe it's the same as the one you found?
When playing music, I noticed a fair amount of skipping when the screen switches off. I initially thought it was the player, the dsp manager, etc. Finally, I came to the conclusion that the governor was the issue. Using CPUSpy, I found smartass2 scaled the cpu to 320MHz when playing music with the screen off. When I changed the minimum CPU speed to 400MHz, the skipping went away.
Was this the issue that you noticed or is this isolated to my phone?
Edit: Will try out your kernel and see if that issue persists. And test the kernel
Flashed the kernel. Doesn't seem to fix this particular issue. If you could somehow implement a fix for this particular issue, it woulde be great!
Will continue testing and let you know how it goes.
Just reporting, one thing I noticed is that 3 of my apps were broken after flashing the new kernel but reinstalling them brought them back to the original state.
new test kernel will be up soon i updated the cpu govenors and add a few more for users to test to see what should stay and what should be removed
quick q: will nightlys be available through rom manager update?
Accelerometer
Hi! Im testing your kernel right now, will post results later.
I have a slightly offtopic question but it's a kernel question.
I have myself a T-mobile Wildfire S wich uses a different hardware form the European Version, the only problem with it is that the accelrometer doesn't work with custom Roms (I've red Alquez said it's a kernel problem).
I wanted to ask you for any tips to star fixing it, I have programming and linux experience but I wouldn't know where to start. Any ideas?
Thanks again, keep up the good work!
does this works with any ROM or only with cm7 rom?

Will it include the qualcomm hw3d acceleration enabled? In that case, is the change noticeable? Does it accelerates only 3d or also 2d, video?
Also, do you recommend using a swap partition?
yes it includes the qualcomm hw3d acceleration

It's not the ROM, this is a kernel feature, you should flash the "Bricked" kernel (Name of the kernel is bricked) for that...
There is also a version on a modified franco v9 kernal
THANKS!!!guys!just two more questions:does this sweep2wake feature consume battery life? can i flash bricked kernel on cm9 rom?

Advice about kernels(ViperX)

I have took the plunge and finally rooted my HOX, and I've noticed the difference already, the question is though, whats the best kernel out there for viperx or coreDroid, battery is my primary concern and I have no interest in overclocking my device.
Thanks Dudes

Faux's Kernel is apparantly brilliant, especially when coupled with Viper X.
I've seen claims of up to 4/5 hours on Screen time.
Hope this helps mate.
PS - I HATE YOU, YOUVE MADE ME WANT TO ROOT NOW !

Welcome to the party
I'm on ViperX and have only been using Faux since the 006 series. The newest released kernel which is not a beta is the 007 kernel. If you want to go for great battery then the 007m is the one you want.
There is a new beta from Faux called 10b5 which also has great battery life. I just got 5 hours of screentime out of it, but do keep in mind that this is a beta kernel which is overclocked.
Hope that this helped shine som light on the subject
The best way is to download the zip to your computer.
Extract the boot.img from the zip\kernel folder and put it in your fastboot folder.
Place the .zip on your sd card.
Boot the phone into fastboot through the bootloader.
Open cmd promt (windows button+r --> wirte: cmd)
navigate to your fastboot folder (eg. cd C:\fastboot)
use the following commands:
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
On your phone go into recovery
advanced --> wipe dalvic cache --> go back
Install from sd card --> choose zip file --> locate the zip and install it
Reboot your phone --> done
Hope this doesn't sound too complicated, it really isn't as soon as you have done it a comple os times it takes 2 minuttes or less to do

No, the 007m isn't overclocked - the gpu is unlocked to 520 mhz, but that's it.

First you will want to update the rom using the OTA service that the Viper team provide. This is found the same place as the normal OTA from HTC (Settings --> about phone --> Software update), newest version is 2.1
Use the step by step guide provided a couple os post's back. Go to faux thread in Original Development and find a download mirror.
Listen guys, this is important: For ViperX you should not repack you kernels. This will only make the rom unstable.

The "Original Android Development Thread" is for ROMS that have been built from the Ground Up. (From Scratch?)
Where as the "Development Thread" is for ROM's that are based on the Stock ROM but have been tweaked etc
Hope this helps.

I don't really understand what you mean.
Now, I will do the following~
1. install the Viperx V2.0.0 downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745176( use the boot.img from the rom)
2. install the OTA update version 2.1 in the phone from HTC (Settings --> about phone --> Software update)
3.Download faux123's kernel ( One-X Kernel 007 Mainline )here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647993 (which is for ICS as faux mentioned)
4. Flash the boot.img from the zip of Endeavoru-Faux123-007m.zip(downloaded from One-X Kernel 007 Mainline)
5.Go into the recovery mode and also flash the Endeavoru-Faux123-007m.zip
6. reboot & enjoy
Is it correct??

O, and one last thing guys.. let the phone settle after flashing a new kernel, rom and so on. Don't start complaining as soon as you have flashed it. The battery will settle, along with coolness and smoothness. Give it a couple os days and you'll be flying for sure

Just flash the boot.img in the rom zip and flash the rom again with ONLY wiping cache and dalvik cache, NOT data.
But believe me, once you've tried faux kernel you'll never want to go back to stock again

No UV... but clearing dalvik helped ! :good: I cleared cache only before and after flashing kernel but forgot about dalvik. Thanks a lot! How do I know what GPU speed actually is? Can't find this info. A flashed faux 007m.
You must accept faux's word. 520 for 007 series. You can check his change log on rootzwiki.

wrong place ! such things should be asked in Q&A therefore there is that place...and to see which kernel is best you should look and try yourself...as for sense 5 only stock, tripNdroid and Alex-V kernel are working you only could try to flash alex...trips is also good but too much performance with less battery life...so try alex-v and see if it helps...and for aosp/cm try yourself there are neo, xm kernel...try them...next time look for the kernel and try yourself and post such thigns like questions in the right section!!

One X master, do you think that after htc releases kernel source code, we will see more sense 5 kernels around ? I should buy HOX in next few days, and i readed, readed so much, since alex discontinued his kernel, i wonder about new kernel with s2w, dt2w and some other cool features. So, what's your opinion ?
