Internal storage - HTC One V

On the box it was written that storage is 4gb but when I turned on the phone my phone it was only 980 mb onlyyyy.whyyyy?? Is it possible that the shop that I bought the phone from has changed the internal storage piece??
Sent from my HTC One V using xda premium

I don't think its possible to change the internal storage piece, but I think that 3gb goes to the system storage.
Would someone else with a One V confirm this?
EDIT: did some searching, according to gsmarena 3gb is in fact for system apps
And here is an xda thread regarding the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586291
EDIT 2: I just found out the One V has a microSD slot unlike the One X and S, so the only thing you need the 980 mb for is apps and data. But since it has microSD expansion, link2sd will work if you really want more space

I'm using app2sd and force 2 sd ,but what does that app do?

you have to make partition first...which is supported by kernel....

The procedure is slightly more complicated to setup, since yes you need to partition the SD card (the 2nd partition is how much space you want for more apps), and you have to choose a certain partition format, e.g. FAT32 is supported on all ROMs.
I won't get into the details, there are multiple guides on how to setup and use link2sd.
I will, however, tell you that when using link2sd, nearly every part of the app you are moving, every bit of data, lib files, etc. are moved to the SD partition, and less than a megabyte is saved onto the phones internal storage for each app.

Reduce internal mem usage

Phone gets real slow when int mem gets low. So how do I release mem? I've realised that moving apps to SD does reduce it but not all will move. I've moved what I can so far but would still like more free int mem.

Root it or buy a new phone.
Several topics above yours you could find HTC Desire memory issues, at the 4th page I have described what one can do to increase available memory. And yeah, root + custom rom is probably the best thing you can do.
Edit
Ah I didn't saw that you are already rooted, so get a rom with more space for apps
Thx. Hmmmm yeah rooted with large SD. 2g ext4. Isn't there a method to use some SD space as internal or extention too?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Use data2sd, data2ext or data2whatever..
You can find it in development section..

[Q] Phone/SD storage speed

Hi.
Is there any disadvantage moving apps from "phone storage" to "SD storage" in One X? Is there any write/read speed difference?
Thanks
Both memory is the same, just partitioned as "internal" and another part as "sd card".
So no, there is no speed diference.

Other than using less space on the "internal"
Yeah, but the op already knows that
Tbh i dont know why apps still dont install themselfs on sdcard by default if sdcard is present.. or at least ask where to be installed, like symbian did 6 years ago.. oh well, maybe we'll see that in android 6.0

Big games already do that automatically. Try installing Asphalt or NFSMW, the APK stays in the internal partition while the game files are on the SD partition.
Sure those do, probably because there is not enough space on internal or 2 games would fill it.. but still would be nice to be asked for the <200mb games too.. oh well, one day maybe

Link2SD problem

What does the following error in link2SD mean?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I have enough space on my partition so I don't understand the problem

not sure but i am having problems also with 64gb sd so i would probably think it's the same with too big partition, it's advised to be less than 1GB
hopefully it sorts out the problem after testing
Sorry this maybe off topic but undisputed guy what rom you using? And how did you remove am/pm from status bar
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I'm using Gin2JB. I think AM/PM goes once you change it to 24 hour time format

The strange thing is that I had it working fine but then I wiped my partition (not before moving the apps2SD) because it was full and now it doesn't work

How I that that rom for gaming against nxt le because I use nxt le with a visualization mod wich makes it look alot better is gin2jb just gb themed to look nicer?
And haha how stupid of me not to realise that lol thanks mate
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Gin2JB is just gingerbread themed to look like Jellybean. It works well and gaming is smooth although I do experience bad lag on some games such as the amazing Spider-Man. Not sure how it compares to NXT as I've not used it.
Regarding link2SD, I got everything linked eventually by persisting but then saw that my 1.5GB partition was somehow full which I didn't understand. I don't get how apps could take up over 1.5GB so I decided to move everything back onto the SD card and try linking them again. Don't really know what I was thinking. This led to the phone displaying and having less than 1mb internal storage which meant I could barely do anything. I moved 2apps to the SD card from settings to free up some memory but I don't know why it did that as I already moved them to SD using link2SD.
Anyways, my problem currently is why my whole 1.5GB is being filled up? Why is it taking that much storage?

Less than 1GB partion? Oh Dear.. My partion's 2.5GB and its fine. Im running a 32gb SD though and my phone decided to move all of my apps back to internal storage.. Sigh. And I dont think its booting up anymore. >.<

I had a 2GB partition on my 32GB SD but this 64GB card is causing problems without a partition.
Is it normal for a 1.5GB partition to be filled up using only link2sd?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Well, My partitions 2.5GB with only 0.9GB space left. So I think ive used 1.6GB alone. >.< I only have 404 apps altogether according to Link2SD (Including System Crap)
Thanks for the reply. Looks like i need to make my partition bigger then.
On a slightly related note, why isn't TB restoring my missing apps with data? It either fails or says the batch restore is finished yet i have nothing. I just need tetris and bruce lee as they can't be had from the play store

[Q] message memory full

Hi guys,
I 've put CM10 on my daughters HTC Desire and in general it runs ok.
The problem is, she keeps getting a 'message memory full' warning.
She has deleted almost all her messages to try and stop it.with no joy.
Is there a known fix for this please or am I missing something obvious.
There seems to be a limit to how much you can make go to the SD card. (apps etc)
She has a 16Gb SD card, no partition.
If I can supply any more info, let me know.
Thanks
I made a 1 gb partition worked for me

Why do you need a partition.....what do you use it for?
How do you direct things to it?

[Q]External SD to Internal Sd

Hi is there any mod to switch external memory to internal like on previous HTC Phones and Samsung phones where everything by default is saved to the external sdcard?
Sent from my HTC One_M8
+1 I hate that the recovery and backups went straight to the internal storage. I prefer recovery and backups on the sd in case my internal storage gets wiped.
Yes that's right, although philz backup allows u do save to external sdcard, however app data for gameloft games and other apps quite quickly fill the internal sdcard, on the Samsung s3 and HTC one sv I had a mod which allowed all downloaded app data to go straight to external memory card, the mod showed the external memory as internal to all, it allowed unlimited apps
From past experience in HTC and some Samsung Phones the following file is modded "vold.stab" to switch the memorys.
Sent from my HTC One_M8
Imo I wouldn't put any apps or app data on external since the card is so slow compared to internal.

To be honest I've had a sgs3 for 2 years with the mod on from the beginning and it hardly made any difference to the speed, the app itself is stored on internal memory but any external data the game or app downloads stores itself on the external memory card, and the HTC m8 being a BEAST i dnt think we Shud c any lags
