This is a must feature that I NEED.
Does anyone know how I can make it easy to toggle it???
If that option is not available, is there a way I make it go away??? There are a few Roms I wanna try that doesn't support this feature.

That's not exactly what I'm asking. I know it does do that though. I have tried CM9, APEX, AOKP(current), Paranoid Android, Codename Android, and JellyBean.
I just want to know how I can do this(like remove the Softkeys entirely or create a toggle) when I find a Rom that looks interesting that doesn't support the feature.
I dont own the Nexus but on my Galaxy Tab I have Galaxy Task 14 rom and it comes with an called "Hide Bar". It hides the Honeycomb soft keys. You should give this app a try and I think you have to be rooted.

you named more or less all custom ROMs you will need to ask the dev to implement it, i think. don't that there is an app solution or sth like that.
Am I mistaken, or is this a feature that is readily available in certain ROMs? You're talking about getting rid of the Back/Home/Recents, allowing full 720p glory, right? I'm trying to remember.. I want to say it would definitely be a feature on Paranoid Android, where you can hold the power button to enable/disable the soft keys (it was one of the icons at the top). Hopefully this helps.. Paranoid Android is the way to go if you absolutely need some certain kind of crazy/abnormal setup. (I really want to use it more than I do.. until this phone no longer is my primary contact number.)

There are many ICS Roms that I wanna try(not switching to JB yet. tried it and I'll let devs toy with it more) that doesn't support it to "maintain" the experience of stock.
And I have seen that honeycomb app. It only works for Honeycomb.
On the LMT thread there is a full screen toggle app that let's you hide the soft keys with one cluck. Its called fullscreen. apk.

OK I found it but it doesn't seem to work for AOKP(I Know, it already has a toggle, just testing before I switch over).
Does it only work when there is no toggle built in???
EDIT1: NVM I figured out that u must reboot for the toggle to have any effect.
It works though.

Yeah it needs a reboot to work. But its the only option that works on jelly bean for now. If you are still on aokp then why don't you like the built in feature?

I'm getting irritated of all features in AOKP.
I don't know why but the features are really irritating me.
I've decided to go stock and move with the fastest and most battery efficient Rom.
The Redemption Rom.
And lemme tell u it's fast.
And actually I do use the built in softkey mod feature. Just fed up with the lags and many features(dunno why, I was getting mad though every time I used my phone).

Ok guys, I am new to any android evelopment but i now have some time on my hand before starting a job developing embedded linux sytems.
So im sure many people are aware of blubbers menu button mod to remove the ics menu buttons.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582506
basically ,me included, alot of other people want different combinations of the keys.
For example
Back: SP->Back
LP->Kill App
Home:SP->Home
LP->RecApps
RecApps: SP->Search
LP->Menu
with the introduction of aroma installer it allows different configurations.
So with the help of the rest of the community i would like to create a mod which allows users to select different cimbinations of short press and long press functions for each of the three buttons. Also add an option to disable the ics menu button if desired.
Anyone that can five me a help to get staryed on this, it owuld be appreciated.

however i might actually giver your rom a go. im on ARHD 4.0 (been busy with university recently to notice any uypdates) and your rom certainly seems alot better since i last looked at it.

It'll be awesome to have a stand alone mod to do this, so we can use it with any rom, even stock rooted ones...

It's not a feature in ICS, if you don't want a custom ROM you're out of luck.
That said, I'm not sure I see the value of it. What do you use it for?

I also no longer see the value considering the specs of this phone.
I tried to Custom ROMs - AOKP and SLIM ICS. And both ROMs have customizable Navigation buttons. You can set Kill App function on any Nav button (short press or long press).
I use that feature very much.
If I won't be playing a game, I just kill it.
I believe this same battery a little and doesn't require much effort.

i also want that feature, as there are more and more games, that keep running in the background and come up with "sales-notification", "reminder to play" or whatever...to avoid this, i always need to go into apps-settings and kill them after playing, otherwise i get these annoying notifications... :-\
CM9 have that feature too. I do see the point of having it if you use some apps that will wakelock your phone (i.e. Facebook), and the only way to fix it is to kill the app (hold back is quicker then going into recent apps and swipe it away).
Either you use a custom rom, or you don't get it. End of story.

why do so many people think, that swiping apps out of the recent apps list does stop them from running? they are just taken out of the list, but if they are still running, they still do after swiping them away, no matter if shown in the list or not!
try it with one. check if it's running, take it out of recents list and check again...

That's a very useful and helpful answer.
Anything you can get in a custom ROM, you can have in a stock ROM. It just takes someone to implement it. If no one has implemented it yet, assuming there is enough interest, someone will...
I have kanged it before into stock, built from src.

You can only have this option on AOKP / GUMMY and non-official rom porting by aokp.
The best rom i use is gummy, AOKP got some problem with connection...
And gummy has good tweaks that doesn't have aokp, and aokp has very great stuff that gummy doesnt have...
But gummy is very stable on the connection.

Hi, hope this is the right section.
I love jelly bean but i need aokp notification toggles (i could settle on CM9 toggles too, but i prefer aokp).
Already know "Notification Toggles" app and don't like it. I want something to flash.
I'd like to know if it's possible to create a tutorial to modify a rom (maybe a clean one like one of the many aosp vanilla) and add this feature.
It's true, i could ask developers, but not anyone likes true 2g-3g toggles and i think i want to start being a bit more independent..
Is it a matter of copy and paste or is something complicated?
Thank you

It would be a fun project and possible. I wish I had my build environment setup I'd work on it. Just merge in the toggles code.
But why not just flash existing ROM with this?

hi roger thanks for the good news. I'd like to be able to do it myself because i want to learn something and especially because not every dev has the toggle fetish as i do (especially the *true* 2g/3g toggle) so i find a lot of interesting roms without toggles and those that have it sometimes are just too customized. I was really in love with jelly bean as came out the day after I/O, i'd like to stick to the vanilla experience with that fundamental mod i need so much. Being a medical student i spend a lot of my time in poor signal areas in the hospital and the 2g allows me to receive notifications in almost every area without draining the battery too much(which the 3g or the continuos shift between 2g and 3g does).
Is it possible to make just one flashable zip to use it on every rom?
Yes its possible but I never learned how to make a patch, only know how to build the ROM from scratch. A patch would be needed into a flash zip.
I wanted to do this cause I like aokp style toggles but nobody else does, so it would be cool to add their toggles.
Does anyone know if there's a mod that exists that moves the back key to the far left and recent key to far right? It drives me nuts when I'm typing and I hit the recent key all the time.

I don't know why people are afraid of custom ROMs. They aren't very far off from a stock rom except stuff like this is already included.
How is you modding your "stock" rom different from someone modding it for you? All ROMs come from the same place when you have a Nexus.
And, yes, custom ROMs allow you to pick and choose any function and whatever icon you want for up to 5... each having the ability to press and hold for an additional 5 functions. I typically include a phone and SMS button on top of the standard 3.
I'm on Xenon BTW. Its the only rom that doesn't suck my battery down in a few hours.

Flash a custom ROM and enjoy.

all custom ROMs are built from AOSP.
yes there may be bugs, but they are most likely in the "tweaks" and "add-ons" the developer made, not with the basic functionality of the ROM.
Hey guys,
I'm looking for a way to get the cm-10 nav bar without having to root.
I've tried just about every launcher out there and none of them have that
Option. On my SG2 I run liquid smooth ROM and its in there and basically
Let's me program it any config option of the nav bar. I want this on my note2 but
Without having to root as I need to keep WiFi calling and other reasons.
Anyone have ideas how to get this working .

Wow.
1) root does not effect wifi calling
2) no way to get nav bar without root.
3) all those nav bar options are built in the rom, no rom has that here. Best you can do is add a line to your build.prop and get tbe regular nav bar like on stock nexus devices

Its not like we have kernal for CM-10 so there's no reason for me to root. If im going to root then its going to be for cm-10. All the other Roms look fine but dont offer enough for me root and flash even with most of them based off of tmobiles kernal. I just cant stand tw and None of the stock rooted roms have the nav bar. Been on cm since 6 days, one gets use to that after awhile.
I was just hoping there was a hack on a launcher that I might have missed. Nothing that deserves a "wow" from you.

Lol you do realize you can root with out flashing a ROM right? Like already stated you can root and add a line to your build prop to enable the stock nav bar, that's about as good as it gets right now.
Sigh,, yes I'm fully aware that
1) I can root and stay stock
2) I will keep my wifi calling if going this route
This wasnt what I asked. All I wanted to know was if there was a launcher out there that i missed that enabled the abilty to have the nav bar without having to root. Man I don't think I could have worded it any better. I just have no need to root until we have cm-10. Even the hack I posted in the other thread doesnt really give the option to customize the bar like I can with liquid. So unless a dev comes up with a way to do this before we have cm10 there's not much else to say
Since its not in a launcher.

...I'm not exactly following either, but anyway can I get that navbar you were using before? Is it an app? or zip I can flash in recovery? I just bought my note 2 yesterday but am really missing my onscreen navbar from my Galaxy Nexus.
Look all i asked for was if there was a launcher that had this ability that I may have missed. Pretty simple right? instead I get a "smart ass wow" etc about rooting etc and wifi calling. It wasnt what I asked and I tried to make it even more clear that until we get a kernal with cm10 that for me its not worth rooting cause none of the current roms have the nav bar.
I already know how to root, I know what roms support wifi calling etc, and I know that just rooting my note2 isnt going to kill my wifi calling. None of This was what I was asking. And I didnt need a smart ass wow comment on such a simple question. New launcher updates come out all the time so I reached out to my fellow xda'ers to see if there was such a option that I missed. Instead I get talked down to like a little boy and that is most differently not going to fly.
Maybe if you were on my end of the sleeve you would understand.
I'm No dev thats for sure, its not my skill set but I have been flashing since the G1 and HD2 days. I help out the devs via giving them a free place to host their roms that are high traffic or a guy thats just starting out for free. Then donate fare amounts to the ones of the roms I use. This is the way I help out here because those are the resources I have at hand.

Ok ill break it down for you. The reason I said wow is your original post sounded like you were wanting everything, did no research, and wanted to have others give you what you wanted on a silver platter. You asked about not rooting due to "keep wifi calling and other" reasons. Basically you sounded like a noob who expects devs to do the impossible/incredibly difficulty (in this case launcher devs) while it is certanly possible to do similar to what you want (think button savior) it is not something that would work well without root due to android permissions for certain button actions. If you would tell us why you are afraid of rooting that might help us help you also, since you now claim its not because of wifi calling.
So for onscreen buttons check out button savior, not exactly what you want but it is onscreen buttons.

Lol at this thread. I dont know if you figured it out yet, but here's the skinny. Nav bar, or softkeys is an android os feature, not a launcher feature. As far as I know, there isn't a way to install cm10 without root (at least, it doesnt install without root). P.S. We may never see an official cm10 kernal for Note 2 beause the cm team says that the Note 2 sources are crap and that they are being properly supported, it would take them too long to sift through it all. Now there is a way to enable the softkeys on the original rom, but it requires root, and the softkeys suck compared to cm10's nav bar. I'm currently runng PAndroid (a cm10 based rom) with nav bar and hardware keys disabled. I hope that helps.
And casperi, it sounds like we both got into this scene at the same time. I started off with my G1 when it first came out, then moved on to the HD2 years later. The difference is that I searched for that question before opening a new thread. And not only in T-mo Note 2 forums, but AT&T and across google as well. There are now a few different threads for what you are looking for.
Reiterating what others have said, unless it's an "artificial" navbar that the launcher or an app creates, it won't work without root.
If/when you decide to root, that line of code you add to your build.prop is:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
I've added it to my TW rom (jedix8), cuz it's convenient on this big phone to have access to a back button on both sides.
