If I'm on an ICS ROM and back up on the new ACS recovery do I no longer have to go back to EL26 to flash a new ICS ROM?
What has and has not worked for people using the new ACS Recovery?

I think it's pretty safe, if you are upgrading your current rom or moving from one ICS TW-based rom to another. Ex: going from Calkulin FE22 to agat63 tFE22, probably should flash Calkulin's Format-all script, but flashing the rom should be fine. I would follow instructions in OP and not use it with AOSP/AOKP roms.

I personally have not dared to try backup or restore yet, but I have flashed quite a few tweaks and even 1 that wiped the cache... no brick so far.
I would stay away from factory reset wipe data/cache until it is confirmed fixed.

If you're going to flash a aosp rom I would definitely use el26 first just to be safe.
El26 all the way. Don't risk bricking your phone to save a minute doing it the guaranteed safe way.

I have my rooted E4GT and the Blazer ICS Rom is installed on it at the moment. I kinda want to try and switch to AOKP's latest build and try it out, but I'm not sure how to go about doing that since they clearly stated not to flash from ICS to ICS.
Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what I should do in order to make the switch to AOKP?
Links to both ROM's respective threads:
AOKP Build 40
Phantom's Blazer Rom
Thanks for your time.
You can just Odin the el26 cwm (sorry don't have the link to it on my phone) and flash AOKP from there.

This is my method, it is 99.9% safe. You can also re-use it to go from other ROMs to any other ics ROM.
Download these drivers
Download this: OC ODIN File for EL26 and this: E4GT Root Utility
Using Titanium Backup, make a backup of all your stuff, or use your preferred back-upper, just not nandroid. I recommend buying the Pro version, because it will save you so many times, and the dev is great. It's a little expensive though for an app.
OC Odin back to EL26. The good thing about this is, the process is straight forward, and doesn't add to your flash counter, and does not yellow triangle either.
Open up e4gtauto-sfx.exe, option C, then I. This gives you CWM, And just in case, I do not recommend using other than standard CWM to flash ICS roms. but that's me.
When your phone reboots, it should have CWM, and be rooted, just load up the AOKP files, do a data wipe, and flash.
Thank you both for the replies
Would I be able to use calkulins format all to do the wipes? Or does that only work for certain ROMS? It seemed pretty fool proof when I used it, so I was wondering if I could just use that again and it would work just the same? I don't want to forget something and brick my phone as a result
And I'll look into titanium backup, thanks for the suggestion.

For ICS ROMs, I recommend to not use it, just do 1 system data wipe and you'll be fine.

Alright, but all I should need to do is install the EL26 + CWM and I can flash AOKP? I don't need to go back to a stock gingerbread ROM or anything, or will the OC EL26 CWM do that for me?
And you said you don't recommend calkulin's format all for ICS roms, but that's what I was told to use for the Phantom Blazer ICS rom when I was flashing it?
Also, one more question; what is "flash count" and is it a bad thing? I'll do some googling on it myself, but I'd like to hear your explanation because I don't always understand people's ways of describing things and usually take weird explanations to understand so yours would still be much appreciated just in case, thanks. ^_^

You just need to be on a safe recovery.... if you wipe data in an unconfirmed recovery you can cause a brick. Either use the el26 that all use or the el29-reboot kernel. Both will work no matter what you install regardless of you install (granted you flash a working rom). I prefer the el29 because you install via mobile Odin and it boots straight to safe CWM recovery.

Hmm, alright, sounds good.
Also, which data's do I need to wipe? Dalvik cache and there's one other I believe?
My phone will not let me flash anything if I use mobile odin with EL26. Just aborts every rom I try to flash.Theyre all roms that I have flashed before so its not the downloads. But if I flash CM7 and use the EL26 thats baked into that rom I can flash anything like normal. Ive downloaded EL26 like 4 different times and it still abprts everything i try to flash except for Calks format all. could it be mobile odin?? I have had it on my phone for a few months but i downloaded it through Blackmart Alpha. could it be that version ??? Any help would be appreciated.
As we all recommend, get your apps from the play store. Also, the small fee to support the devs for your app is worth it as opposed to possible headache you get when you get a bootlegged or base version. I recommend trying the EL29 tar with direct boot to clockwork, and mobile Odin From the play store. Try that tar and see if that helps

I did reset to EL29. then I flashed CM7 and flashed supernova rom, then flashed cm7 again with agats recovery on the supernova rom and the same thing happened. i dont understand why this is happening. just says aborted. it does the same thing whether I flash EL26 thru Odin, mobile odin or on CM7. Ive had and used all these roms many times before so i know the rom downloads arent bad.

I formatted my SD card and USB storage and Odined EL29 reset. I flashed CM7 successfully through CWM rogue and then tried flashing 5 different roms with CM7's EL26 kernel and its still aborting everything I try to flash. The only thing it will flash is Calks format all. Can someone please help??
Are you verifying the md5 of the stuff you download. How about using a pc instead of mobile odin?
Are you using Chris' CWM recovery? I just found out in another thread that it is an issue. Flash agats kernel it has another recovery repacked with it.

Yes like I said up top I've tried windows Odin, mobile Odin and CM7 which has the EL26 kernel baked in and still the same thing. I was always told on here to only use el26 for flashing ICS roms. If agats is safe I will try it. All the roms I'm trying to flash I have already flashed before and they were fine. I tried flashing GB Blazer with EL26 and it gets aborted just like the rest. But after I run one click and reset my phone with el29 cwm rogue I can flash the GB blazer rom no problem. It seems that as soon ad I install el26 everything goes wrong . And yes I've redownloaded it several times.

Ok I rerooted my phone with FF18 reset and installed agats recovery successfully. I flashed supergalaxy successfully. I wanted to flash another rom so I flashed Agats recovery 0.2.1 (the same one that I installed with autoroot, that worked fine when I flashed supergalaxy rom) that i downloaded from the repository. it aborted everything I tried to flash. what is going on with my phone???
I dont get it I just flashed super galaxy right after I rotted my phone and installed agats rec, but now I cant flash anything again.I rerooted with FF18 and reinstalled agats recovery like I did earlier and its aborting everything I try to flash. Can someone please help, this is very frustrating. It doesnt make sense, I havent ever had any problems flashing anything, and now I cant flash any of the roms that I have flashed a dozen times with the same recovery I have used a dozen times to flash those same roms. and now agats recovery is doing the same thing.

There must be a problem with that super galaxy rom. I would stay away from it if it causing you problems. what other roms are you trying to flash? are you doing full wipes between? also could it be and issue because its a De-Odexed rom? (any one)
this started way before the super galaxy from. If you read back you will see that I've flashed all these roms before. I used to flash a different rom every few days, not new ones just different ones. All of them that i had run before with no problems. All the same downloads. Then one day I Mobile odined el26 and it aborted what ever I was flashing, and kept aborting everything except for calks format. So I wiped my SD card and USB storage and used sfhubs el29 reset and installed cwm rogue . I flashed cm7 with no problem but then I couldn't flash anything else . Its seems that as soon as I get on el26 I can't flash anything. Yesterday I used sfhubs ff18 one click root and installed agats cwm 0.2.1 and flashed a rom successfully. Then i tried flashing something else and same thing, aborted. it doesn't make any sense. This started out of no where with rooms I've flashed many times and the el26 kernel I had been using for over 2 months. I even redownloaded el26 and a different rom , flashed it after I ran el29 auto root one click ( what ever its called) and it happens again with all new downloads and a freshly wiped and formatted phone. And yes I always wipe. Data reset, cache, dalvick, format system and calks format. Something is definitely wrong.

i just picked up an e4gt today, i had one back in december that i rooted then sold. so im back and now there's a ton of stuff out there for this phone.
i just came over from the evo design where there is pretty much nothing happening, and before that i had an evo shift. i had cm7 installed on that and loved it.
so what rom do you guys suggest i use? i see there is cm9 available in alpha form, which has me very tempted.
im looking for a stable rom with no bloatware. and id love some advice.

Go with cm9 that darchstar has posted. It works great and I use it as my daily. After you do the base install I recommend nightly 7/24 and using the chris41g kernel b3 version with it. Great battery life and full functionality.

Does cm9 wipe out cwm?
I'm paranoid to do anything without an option for recovery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Here is your safest bet (as in super safe):
1. Download the el26 safe cwm kernel from the kernel repository in the sticky for this phone
2. Download cm9 6 and gapps
3. Follow cm9 6 download instructions
4. Let it boot
5. Use mobile Odin if you have it (highly recommend as it makes flashing so easy) and flash the el26 kernel that you downloaded in the kernel section from external sd...always check md5 sum first!
6. Once u see the blue light on ur phone in the LED, hold power+volume up to boot into recovery, once the sgs2 logo shows you can lay off the buttons
7. If you didn't do it in time or held too long, just pull the battery and go to recovery via power+volume up
8. You should be in cwm, flash the nightly of cm9, clear dalvik and cache, then flash the chris 41g b3 kernel and reboot
9. Enjoy
10. From this point forward you have a bomb rom and working recovery that will allow backup/nand/flashing safely.

Ditto on Alex. Excellent support... Great battery life. It's themed so you should look at the screenshots and the video on the dev site.

anyway i tried to flash el26 and it stalled at the splash screen, so i opened up recovery and wiped cache and dalvik, then installed the chris41g kernel. and no dice. aaaanyway. whats the benefit to the other kernels versus what i get with cm9? and is there a solution to my problem?

Start with thread #1 on the attached link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535
To Install
Boot to recovery
Make an NAND Backup
Wipe the phone (with the Format All X2 script)
Flash Part 1
Boot the phone
Go to the updater (Under put things back to stock) and install Part 2 (Two part install is to finish theming Talk)
Reboot and Enjoy
When I did this I went to CWM to flash this through odin. Rom works very smooth. There is a ton of information in the thread but that should get you started.
I'm new to Samsung Android phones, and new to the E4GT, so I need a little help.
I always flash the zip for the EL26 CWM5 recovery like instructed, soooo, here is my issue.
I'm running AOSP and thought I would try CM10 JB, soooo, I flashed into EL26, performed a full nandroid to my Ext SD. I flashed JB and gave it a shot. For issues known to all, I wanted to switch back
So, I went into recovery, flashed the EL26 recovery and rebooted recovery, I then restore the nandroid backup I just made, rebooted, went to the Samsung screen (with the yellow !). After some time, about 20-30 seconds, it goes to a black screen indefinately until I pull the battery.
Any ideas? I have yet to get a nandroid to work on this device. Had no issues at all on my 3D. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.
TIA,
Tee Jay

Nope, won't even turn on. But if I do a full clean flash of the exact ROM, it works fine.
I'm by far no expert but I'd say the kernel is being replaced by the gb recovery kernel when you flash back for your safe recovery.I personally keep a couple various recoveries so I can nandroid backup on the kernel native to the Rom and then the backup will contain the proper kernel.I think I got that right.so....nandroid b4 recovery has been my habit.
Had this issue before, minus the yellow triangle....anytime you're on an aosp rom and do a nand via el26, the nand stores the last kernel used (which is GB el26). After you restore, wipe cache and dalvik and then flash an aosp kernel, probly one from chris41g. Reboot and should he good to go.

Right, I tried that with my AOKP backup, I was able to boot. But then my WiFi wasn't working because of something to do with the Kernel I'm assuming
