I woke up and my phone (running bonestock) had a android guy and a weird symbol. Anyway I pulled the battery and reboooted and when it was done it said shutting off...... It rebooted and a loading bar got 1/3 full befor the android thing showed again?
Did my phone try to update but the update failed becuase I was rooted? If so, was it the latest gingerbread, or mabey even ICS.

When ICS finally drops do you really think its gonna be a surprise? Every phone that has received an update recently has had the news leaked at least a week before it dropped. All this hoping is a waste of time. It will get here when it gets here.

There is a rumoured new update coming out. Of you are rooted or want root please hold off as you might lose your root ability. Just a warning of friendly advice.

Edit: Dang its late. Sorry I can't spell. Glad that's not what the army paid me for. Lol
Yeah. I just got the phone today for my wife and it updated while it was charging before I could root it...which sucks since rooting it played a HUGE role in the decision to get this phone.
I'm guessing I could really break something if I just tried the unrevoked/alpharev/revolutionary approach regardless of the fact that I now have hboot 0.98 huh?

****, I was afraid of that. Now I wonder if I should try to return it and try again...damnit.
Is the update going to try and force itself or will it does it have to be a manual update?
Also, if you are running a custom rom will this still effect people, or just people running stock root?
Unless things are different from my Original Droid then custom roms don't need to worry about it since most of them have OTA updates turned off.

If it is a stock based Rom without OTA removed...then yes it prob will...and you will lose root...you can remove the update service yourself with a root explorer app

For some reason the curious side of me wants to down load. Can't be that big oh a change. Right???
How long for the exploit on 2.3.4 since we already have 2.3.2 done.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
My crystal ball says it will take 3 months and 9 days to find the next exploit, and 4 months 15 days for the next patch that kills it.
It seems that one of the biggest benefits of custom roms are freedom of forced updates. I guess this is the answer to all the people concerned about getting s-on for the event of a return.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk
Wow, this thing pushes through without user consent? Holy crap am I glad I'm running CM7.
Just a thought - would users who have received the update against their will have the option of flashing the previously released gingerbread RUU? I'm guessing that even if they could, they'd still be stuck with the updated hboot and therefore unable to get s-off. I'm not really sure how all that works though. Anybody smarter than me have any thoughts?

The new OTA is pushed to your phone but it offers the option to accept, postpone or reject.
I am rooted (stock rom) and made the error of accepting. After the update my phone would not boot completely (erred with white triangle, yellow exclamation point, blue android). You can follow Conduitz's fix found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1233267
NOOB Question
If I want the update and could wait for Root (have root now), how does one go about getting S-ON again? I used the alpharev method.
thanks in advance.
I have had my phone sense Nov last year and just updated to the OTA 2.3 Android a few months ago. Sense the update (and to a lesser degree ever sense i got my phone) the screen has becoming more and more unresponsive. It started as just the Lock Screen would do nothing for the first few seconds and then everything would be fine. I would have it think i was long pressing spots sometimes and apps like Facebook and Tweetcaster would super scroll and speed up or down for a long time. Over the past couple weeks it has become so bad that my phone would stop responding to the touch screen within a couple seconds of awakening it. I have resorted to using the arrow keys like its an old Sidekick. Which works, just not really well. I am planning on calling sprint and getting it insurance-replaced because i think it might be a hardware problem. But before doing that I have put it back to stock ROM using the program that Samsung put out as their replacement to Odin (which i have used many times sense after about a month i started rooting my phone and screwing around with it.) The recent Apps i have been using which i think could be responsible are Mr. Number as it blocks calls and Cloudskipper Media Player sense it overrides the lock screen and maybe one of those two is messing with something.
Has anyone else had this problem or something similar, any ideas on how to fix it if it comes up again?
Ok, u said that u have ur phone rooted since u updated it to gb? Or what? Trying to clarify first before we contine.

Sorry, no it is currently not rooted. It was, but i had to restore it to factory because while it was rooted Clockwork wasnt liking the OTA update. Actually Clockwork wasnt seeing my SD card at all at that point. So I used the Odin replacement to reset, then the update took. Sense then i havent re-rooted it.

I was running the latest leak 0.14 and I went back to version 2.008.03_PA_CA and it says that I do not have a update available. Any reason why I would getting this instead of getting the official ICS update?
If it's any help, I was on the .012 leak, and downgraded to 3.2 - didn't see any updates after a day of constantly checking for updates. Manually went to 3.2.1, same thing, no OTA's.
I was originally on GEN2, went over to GEN1 in December/November. On the AcerTablet forums, there were quite a few folks on GEN2 that haven't gotten ANY OTA update since they got their tabs, and even a couple that were still on 3.2. I'm starting to wonder if there is something else going on with the GEN2's. I think I'll downgrade to stock 3.2.1 GEN1 again today, and see if anything has changed.
I too have a Gen2 I'm a bit nervous to run an update on mine yet. I guess downgrading to the Gen1 rom should make it easier. I gotta say though I'm a bit bummed that Acer hasn't done anything to update the Gen2 A100's.

Ok i have new software update should i postpone or update I'm rooted :what is in the new T-mobile update?
PSA: People, if you get an update, post what you are on right now so we know if your getting the same update that was released weeks ago that everyone else already has, or if its truly a new update please.
I am stock/rooted and on UVLH2. The update showed up yesterday morning. I also keep receiving a samsung account update. I hit update then it disappears, then shows up again some time later.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
For those wondering, this may not be the update you were expecting i.e. JB. Received update notification last night. Update upgraded software from UVLH2 to UVALJ4 which is still 4.0.4. Wife received notification last afternoon. Phones are only a week old on the network.
Voodoo root keeper will work. Just install it, click temp unroot, install the update, phone will reboot and then go back into voodoo and restore root. If you get some xxxx app has stopped, un install the specific apps, reboot and reinstall them. Its works for me.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
If the Update is under 100mb then this is not JB. Sorry. Also, if you are one LH2, then this will updated you to LJ4 (ICS like the poster above stated). Sorry again.
Silver lining? Since Sprint is getting theirs pushed over the next few days, that means that it is very clear all the carriers have it and are bloating as we speak. Many people/sites/blogs said that it will be this month, next month 1Q of 2013 for TMo.
I suggest going to tech sites like Engadget, Phandroid, Android Police,...as once the TMo update rolls out, they will be awash with stories about it. Case-in-point, Google SPH-L710 Official Jelly Bean Update and see how many links come up or how many threads.
Can confirm this is uvalj4. Dis use root keeper and worked perfect.

I've been sticking with ICS on my at&t s3 since I updated to jellybean on kies and had to revert back via Odin. Reason being is because after I updated my phone kept dropping data and the battery which usually lasted 14 hours lasted only 6 hours.
My question is if the OTA update has fixed any of the bugs. Also, do I really need to update to jellybean? I'm curious on what I'm missing but I am also reading about all of the bugs.
I am full stock ics right now.

I had updated via kies and I never experienced the issues you stated. It ran pretty smooth. Battery life didn't seem to be affected to much for me.
Only thing you are really missing out in is Smoother Interface Transitions, Google Now, Improved Voice Search (pretty much comparable to Siri), Improved Notification Bar (with expandable notifications) and some other UI improvements. See this link for more info: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_version_history
Its possible your first upgrade was a bad flash.

Yeah I thought about that and then my second child was born so everything that wasn't on the main burner got put on hold so I never got back to updating it again truth be told. When I got the pop up from at&t about the OTA I Google searched and found that its about 50/50 for those that have problems and those who don't.
If and when I do update should I factory reset my phone before or after?

So far my experience has been similar to yours as for the battery life. I was getting 14+ hours on stock ICS after calibrating but after I tried calibrating Jellybean I maxed out at 6-7 hours.
I heard that there is a bug where if the SD card is installed it drains the battery.
Try removing the sd card and then reflash the Rom and root then calibrate.
Also it might take a clean flash without the sd card in to make the battery better in jelly bean. Wipe data/factory reset and then, if using Odin to flash 4.1.1, enter download mode (volume down + Home button + power button).
To answer your question about the bugs, battery life, no they aren't fixed but they can be worked around. I'm getting 16 hours on jelly bean right now.
Here is a link to the calibration app:
