Am I having a faulty battery? - HTC One X

My hox is three months old and was repaired once one month ago by htc dur to screen flickering issue. They changed my device's battery and main board based on the repair report given by them.
Right now I can only get around 2 to two and a half hours of screen on time with one full charge. I'm on stock Rom and the device is never rooted. Very light user thus not installing more than 15 apps on my phone. Not sure what is the reason the battery drains that fast. I did have notification on for whatsapp and a few social media apps but don't think less than three hours usage is what I should get.

no

Btw I even neither play game nor video when I say I only get less than three hours usage. checking email, calling/texting, browsing social media apps, and read news is all I do

So your device is also only getting a similar 2-2.5 hours usage as mine?

2 1/2h is pretty good
What is your display brightness level set to?
I usualy set my brightness to 30% for daylight/indoor use, minimum level at night and max level only when i cant see bcause of bright sunlight.
The HOX display use approx 50-70% of battery capacity depending of brithness settings. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1579392&highlight=battery+optimization
A lot can be done to save some juice: try to lower your brightness, your screen timeout, turn off wifi when in sleep mode, smart sync your apps........ search this forum for more tips.
You can also see your battery health by downloading Battery solo widget on google market and double-tap the widget.
hope this helped

Screen brightness and battery life.

I have been searching for 20 mins and can't find an answer (first time using the app so may have missed something).
I was wondering if anyone had any data on brightness % and power usage. People seem to go to great lenghts to change the brightness levels but I remember something on last years Google dev. con. videos on YouTube that said it didn't make as much difference as originally thought. (i can't find the video either lol. Bad search day here).

The biggest improvement in battery life (IMO) comes from setcpu. I also keep my screen at 40% which I suppose helps some. I've got a Mugen extended life battery and setcpu set at around 537 max (on demand) with the screen off. I get 2 days out of my battery... And I use my phone a lot.

The bad thing is that on Sense roms, I have yet to see brightness going lower than 30%, even in pitch dark. Aosp does far better job as long as brightness is concerned. Setting it at low value is not an option for me either as it renders your phone unusable in direct sunlight.

Every rom has it listed under its changelog, usually it is smartass for sense roms. It isn't by accident either, some have reported lag waking the phone up. I haven't across almost all roms available, and even if I did I'd still prefer 20% less performance over 20% less battery life.

Why dont u test it wiht currentWidget or so? Okay, i did it:
0% -> 125mA
25% -> 150mA
100%-> 280mA
So what do we learn? Brightness and/or Screen has a big impact and probalby most people here trying kernel tweaks and whatever to improve the battery dont understand math.

Agree. Just check the battery usage, you will get the idea.
On mine, display usually uses 40% - 60%, with data always on.
Apologies for the late reply. lost internet connection for a week then forgot I posted it
Thanks for the replies guys. I eventually found the video, took ages lol
(youtube.com/watch?v=OUemfrKe65c).
According to what they say in this the screen actually doesn't account for that much of the total battery usage (mainly due to the screen being off most of the day) overall given everything else using battery.
i.e. coming up with a way to keep the device asleep for longer when turned off would completely out strip any adjustment to the screen brightness in terms of battery life.
So things like lower cpu when in standby can be really good but only when not getting data transfer (as this needs to be done very quickly as its expensive).
As adjusting screen brightness is easy to do I think that is why so much time is spent on this. In reality though it seems like it is only going to give a limited battery life increase.
But if you put low cpu, the cpu needs more time at low to do the same that a fast cpu, thats why the setcpu apps its a bit crap. I think that set low the brightness of the screen save more battery than putting the set cpu really low... (just my two cents)
I leave the brightness on my phone to around 30% for better battery, and i can see it ok in the daytime. I have recently had it up at 100% and noticed how quick my battery goes dead.

Very true.
I guess ideally you want the CPU low when its not doing anything and high when doing data transfers etc (to speed up the high current draw activities).
I guess a good app would be one that puts the phone in airplane mode for 90% of the time when inactive. Only coming out once every so often to check for text/data etc. I can see that giving better returns than anything else. from what was said in the video a phone in standby doing nothing would apparently last nine days (as apposed to one normally). Given this data I guess its possible to double the battery life with this kind of app.
I may have to have a go at writing one

I agree that turning the brightness down makes sense and saves battery. It just seems a disproportionate amount of time people spend over brightness vs better ways of extending battery life.
I guess the rewards also depend on the amount of time you use the phone as the more you use it, the better reward from the screen and the less from the standby solutions

Is my battery usage normal? I have attached the image.

HTC Wildfire
CM 7.1.0.1
NO live wallpapers
NO GPS usage
Do you take a lot of photos? Have you been leaving the Camera app by hitting the home button? Your camera app seems to be running a lot so use the back button to exit it if you don't already.
Considering you've always got Wifi on I don't think your battery life is that bad.
First screen no, second yes. As Chris said, I think you are leaving the camera on or you might use the flash in the middle of daylight. If you aren't, use the back button instead of home. Also turn off the WiFi when you're not using it. You can also set the screen timeout to 7 seconds or turn the display brightness down or to auto.

My display brightness is always low.
And I guess that Camera360 app had a prob. I removed it and now it does not show up in the Battery Usage. That screenshot was taken a few days ago.
I get around 30 hours of battery life after full charging.
Is this normal for HTC Wildfire CM 7.1.0.1?
Thanks a lot for your replies

Amazing battery life on stock !!

Hi ppl,
probably all of you already noticed this trick.
Just in case you didn't... here it is.
On 2nd charge, I could see battery charge graph going down with no stop, even with screen off !
So, I installed BetterBatteryStats (XDA).
Battery killer was HTC Weather.
Guess what ?
On a freshly, just bought HTC One X, Sense refreshes, hourly
Your weather's location (so also GPS eating battery, but it's perhaps acceptable)
Weather from the most important cities in your country (Italy = 15 more or less) !!!!
Once removed all those static defined cities, leaving just the "where I am" and 1 static, HTC Weater became tamed and sane.
And my battery graph on screen off is now FLAT. With Wifi and data on.
I'll not get more scientific here.
The issue is very subtle and unsuspicious; the trick is very easy; the benefits are TREMENDOUS.
I also made refresh interval up to 3 hours. It should help too.
Still, the terrific impact was given by removing those 15 static locations.
I also left enabled the "refresh when opening weather" flag.
Happy trying !

Couldnt agree more. Who cares about weather somewhere else!

Who cares about inaccurate accuweather info anyway, it's terrible. The only thing it's good for is telling me what it's like now (I have known that to be wrong too). I've got these amazing glass panels in my walls so I can see what the weather is like now. I just don't use it so I turn weather sync off.
I only wish there was an option to change where the weather data comes from like in so many other apps/widgets. MeteoGroup, for example, seems much better.
Same here and ive hit 3 days and 3.5 hours of.screen time.before now.

Actually I can understand that 1-2 static places could be handy, while planning a trip on a sudden.
But... 15 static places (can't imagine how many they were in bigger countries !!) is just a plain overkill, a complete suicide by HTC.
About accuracy... it seems precise enough here in Italy. Surely it's different as per country.
Please could you take screenshots of your screen on time and battery usage page also what brightness your using. I have a One X resting in the box because it simply can't make it through a working day. My Nokia N8 with the same type of usage. GPS,Weather, whatsapp, calls, web. Is full to almost full by 5pm. Mind you this is with 3G turned off.
Now I'm not expecting the one X to be anywhere near that good but if this would mean the phone lasts me an entire day of normal smartphone usage then I might just dust it off xD.

i have not even touched the settings to weather and mine (based in london dunno if makes difference) only shows my current location and refresh every 6 hours or upon open that was my default settings

Yup, not really going to take screenshots today
I'd say to you that today I noticed
- phone unplugged at 9.45
- 18.30 (so nearly 9 hours later) I had 3hrs screen on time - intense usage due to SSLauncher setting up - and still 40% battery left.
3G on all the time, a couple of calls, many market downloads.

Before the Weather static positions cleanup: 2 hours screen on, battery empty.
After the cleanup: 3+ hours and still 25-30% battery to go.
As I stated in 1st post, I won't go much scientific, other threads are already there with much more data and insight...
yet, the improvement looks TREMENDOUS *thunder* *evil laugh* to me
Back to my phone... 1% battery left
I see:
12h 7min unplugged
4h 49 screen on time
all time with 3G on, all sync (Facebook, Linkedin) on, intense usage due to device setting up (SSLauncher, maps regions pre-download, Flipboard sync and a lot more)
Won't go more scientific than this
Awesome guys, just put the phone on charge, lets see how it goes tomorrow Maybe I'll finally fall in love with my One X
So I took it of the charger @ 6am today. It is now 5pm and normally the battery would be dead by now. At the moment it is @ 43%.
My brightness is set to auto and the phone tells me my on screen time is only 53mins. You guys are talking about something like 4hrs on screen with this fix. So I don't think it has improved much.
However I'm sure that my battery stats are off because it tells me it's only been off the charger for 4hrs. So I can put up actual stats tomorrow, if it resets properly tonight.

Batt bad bad bad

I´ve just moved from th GS2 to the HOX and even though I had read reports about the battery not being so good I was really surprised at how bad it is! I mean with the GS2 I would watch about 1 hours of videos, navigate a little bit, check my calendar several times and talk a couple of times and I would get home at the end of the day with about 80% full batt...I do the same with the HOX and it´s almost half that! Plus it takes forever to charge when compared to the GS2, GS1 and the Atrix. Is it really that bad or is my unit faulty? Is there a mod or an update that can probably address this?
If you used to get all of that use out of 20% of your sgs2 battery, you probably had a really good sgs2 because I could never achieve anything like that.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
So you just got it and reporting a bad battery after a first charge probably? Use it more and report again then...
Well I´ve had several other smartphones that didn´t have this issue after I "just got them".
I think you GS2 is incredible
Cycle the batt
The hox has wayyy better batt life than any samsung
I don't miss the 3% increase an hour it took for any samsung to charge once they are dead forget about getting a fast charge may as well have a spare charged n ready or how about the can not use camera bs!! because the battery is to low... to function the cam
Lol all that crap is history.
Charge the phone with data toggled off
Set screen to 15sec time out
I'm getting 15-16 hrs out of mine on heavy use

I came from the SGS2 which was running VillainRom with an underclocked CPU with under volt. (Auto Brightness)
.... and my stock HOX gives better battery life whilst having a much brighter default auto brightness.
Under my usage, I would never get over 3:xxhrs screen on time, so if you used 100% brightness, you can probably half that.
Also regarding streaming (as I do a lot of it), my ex SGS2 would die after around 6hrs whereas the HOX can do 9+hrs, ive tested these thoroughly.
So, I really don't understand this thread.

Thanks. I didn´t know that. I will work on it.
HOX= HTC One X ??? how long can batt use??
Well even me coming from the SGS2 I can say it had the better battery life with an extended battery. Could easily get 4-6 screen on time on various things. HOX is fine but not as good as SGS2 with extended battery.
Currently in Turkey on roaming and idle time in this is quite excellent the 5th core works fine in idling.

Auto brightness. Pretty much standard stock setup with only a few of the bloatware apps disabled in the apps settings and haptic feedback turned off. All accounts setup to auto sync too! It took a good couple weeks for the battery to last that long but now on moderate use I can get 2 days out of it.

2. Turn 3G data On
3. Turn 3G Data Off
4. Turn WiFi back on
5. Close Maps, Gtalk and any other Google service when not using the same.
I am getting 48 hours on an average with 3 hour screen On time. I am On 1.28 Stock.

If you go to settings then power saving, you will see custom power saving settings you can then adjust how to same battery including the option for brightness.
I always keep mine at full brightness and I've gotten killer battery life. My phone averages 3-4 hours screen on time. Of course I can make that stretch 5 hours or one whole day. Depends on how much you use your phone of course.
