Hi ppl,
probably all of you already noticed this trick.
Just in case you didn't... here it is.
On 2nd charge, I could see battery charge graph going down with no stop, even with screen off !
So, I installed BetterBatteryStats (XDA).
Battery killer was HTC Weather.
Guess what ?
On a freshly, just bought HTC One X, Sense refreshes, hourly
Your weather's location (so also GPS eating battery, but it's perhaps acceptable)
Weather from the most important cities in your country (Italy = 15 more or less) !!!!
Once removed all those static defined cities, leaving just the "where I am" and 1 static, HTC Weater became tamed and sane.
And my battery graph on screen off is now FLAT. With Wifi and data on.
I'll not get more scientific here.
The issue is very subtle and unsuspicious; the trick is very easy; the benefits are TREMENDOUS.
I also made refresh interval up to 3 hours. It should help too.
Still, the terrific impact was given by removing those 15 static locations.
I also left enabled the "refresh when opening weather" flag.
Happy trying !

First thing I've done since my Desire is remove everything except 'My current location'...I don't need to know the weather anywhere else!

Couldnt agree more. Who cares about weather somewhere else!

Who cares about inaccurate accuweather info anyway, it's terrible. The only thing it's good for is telling me what it's like now (I have known that to be wrong too). I've got these amazing glass panels in my walls so I can see what the weather is like now. I just don't use it so I turn weather sync off.
I only wish there was an option to change where the weather data comes from like in so many other apps/widgets. MeteoGroup, for example, seems much better.
Same here and ive hit 3 days and 3.5 hours of.screen time.before now.

Actually I can understand that 1-2 static places could be handy, while planning a trip on a sudden.
But... 15 static places (can't imagine how many they were in bigger countries !!) is just a plain overkill, a complete suicide by HTC.
About accuracy... it seems precise enough here in Italy. Surely it's different as per country.
Please could you take screenshots of your screen on time and battery usage page also what brightness your using. I have a One X resting in the box because it simply can't make it through a working day. My Nokia N8 with the same type of usage. GPS,Weather, whatsapp, calls, web. Is full to almost full by 5pm. Mind you this is with 3G turned off.
Now I'm not expecting the one X to be anywhere near that good but if this would mean the phone lasts me an entire day of normal smartphone usage then I might just dust it off xD.

Hmm, seems quite decent. You have some amazing on screen time. I could barely manage 3hrs with auto brightness. Did you notice this increase after removing the other city locations?
What were your stats before removing the extra weather app cities?
I would actually love to know the OP's stats. He says its "TREMENDOUS"
i have not even touched the settings to weather and mine (based in london dunno if makes difference) only shows my current location and refresh every 6 hours or upon open that was my default settings

Yup, not really going to take screenshots today
I'd say to you that today I noticed
- phone unplugged at 9.45
- 18.30 (so nearly 9 hours later) I had 3hrs screen on time - intense usage due to SSLauncher setting up - and still 40% battery left.
3G on all the time, a couple of calls, many market downloads.

Before the Weather static positions cleanup: 2 hours screen on, battery empty.
After the cleanup: 3+ hours and still 25-30% battery to go.
As I stated in 1st post, I won't go much scientific, other threads are already there with much more data and insight...
yet, the improvement looks TREMENDOUS *thunder* *evil laugh* to me
Back to my phone... 1% battery left
I see:
12h 7min unplugged
4h 49 screen on time
all time with 3G on, all sync (Facebook, Linkedin) on, intense usage due to device setting up (SSLauncher, maps regions pre-download, Flipboard sync and a lot more)
Won't go more scientific than this
Awesome guys, just put the phone on charge, lets see how it goes tomorrow Maybe I'll finally fall in love with my One X
So I took it of the charger @ 6am today. It is now 5pm and normally the battery would be dead by now. At the moment it is @ 43%.
My brightness is set to auto and the phone tells me my on screen time is only 53mins. You guys are talking about something like 4hrs on screen with this fix. So I don't think it has improved much.
However I'm sure that my battery stats are off because it tells me it's only been off the charger for 4hrs. So I can put up actual stats tomorrow, if it resets properly tonight.

I've read in a bunch of other threads that people are getting awesome battery life out of their Z or G2. Mine is okay-ish. I had a hero before which seemed a bit better. there are a couple of odd things I thought I'd check tho...
First, the keyboard backlight turns on and off at seemingly random intervals while open. Anyone else got this?
Also I've seen screenshots of the battery use screen showing how much power is used by each system. The screen always is at least 75% on mine, even when its been sat in a pouch most of the time with just a couple of messages or a phone call- this seems quite different to other peoples experience.
Is there any reliable way of benchmarking the battery to check? If not, does anyone fancy helping me test?
im actually suffering from the same problem,
i thaught it was because the first week i was using it lots thats why the battery wasnt lasting long, but on monday morning with a full charge ,
only with a few calls , texts and checking train times on TFL , by the time i got to sleep that night the battery was on 30%
I was shocked , checked the battery useage meter , everything was below 5% except the screen which was was on a shocking 80%
I Then formatted the phone , restored to default , removed everything ,
set the brightness to lowest useable which was just above the 'o' on 'ok' in the brightness screen let it charge to 100% for use on tuesday.
Tuesday - Morn before i left for work it was on 100% , the only thing i had setup on it was email, brightness on low - but useable .
Screen must have been on onliy for 20 mins throughout the day
Got home , battery was on 45%
battery useage - again display was taking over 70% of it when it was hardly on .
I am RMA'ing this one tommorow
I think its an issue internally with something shorting on the display, battery shoudlnt be draining that much if its not on
Out of interest was yours a UK Desire Z ?
Yep. This sounds exactly like my situation in every detail. I couldn't believe reports from other people saying their batteries were at 92% after 12 hours- even without using mine at all this wouldn't happen.
Mine is a UK desire z, from play.com. I think its over 14 days so RMA might be tricky, although I know I have lots of rights thanks to distance selling regulations. Hope I can exchange without too much fuss.
Ooh, just thought of something. When I set the brightness really low on mine (below 20% or so) the screen flickers slightly. It's most visible on a totally white page. Does yours do the same? Faulty backlight maybe?

Just tested mine, definitely no flicker.
Now my experience with the battery....
I play about half hour - an hour of games every day, plus about up to an hour wifi, using the xda app throughout the day using data, 10 - 15 txts and a few 1 - 2 min calls... Not too heavy usage.
I'm getting 30-36 hours, I'm happy....
BUT..... I have not plugged in through mains once yet. I read that charging through USB gives better performance... so far that is looking true.
I got the same kind of time out of my Hero using mains but that was with zero game time.
yes! pizza65 , i noticed the flickering too! , i thaught it was just my eye being twitchy ! Noticeable on internet browsing on low brightness! .
Mine was from handtec .. (amazon delayed too much) so changed last min,
it comes with a 2 year manufacturer waranty i think so even if you take it up with HTC direct they should be able to help if play dont.
I tried a diff radio and rom , but it made no difference.
Maybe the UK batch is still faulty , wasnt that the reason why it failed google testing and got delayed for release here?
Whats your hinge like ?
ddot what network are you on ?
same to you pizza65?
im on 02 , i dont think it is a network radio issue with switching of hspda/3g to 2g signals as it does say cell standby battery useage is around only 6% , but then again the phone could be false reporting

Not really if you want realistic real-world results with data connectivity etc. It varies too much since everything counts like signal strength.
You can always just turn off everything and burn the battery with a movie but first thing you should do is a few dozen full discharges before you do anything. I've noticed that HTC (and other manufacturers too) pre-use their batteries ie. charge and recharge them until they're optimal for consumers, hence the whine about bad batteries when people buy new phones (and in reviews as well).
I'm on Orange, I don't think its network because, as you confirmed, the "battery use" screen says that the screen is draining all the power. If nobody else gets a flicker on low brightness (it can take a few seconds to see it, but once you notice it...) then it looks like our screens are the culprit. Maybe.
I've deleted batterystats.bin and fully charged, so ill give that another chance before talking to play.
Ddot, what percentage of the drain is from the screen on your z? Also, if you press 'display' in that menu it will say how long the screen has been on, what does it say?
I have the same issue with battery performace. I've moved to Desire Z from my old Desire which had AMOLED display. On my old one, the display taked 5-8% of battery. On Desire Z I have minimum 50%, but ussually ~70%.
After reading that some people can use their DZs like "for two days of heavy use (gaming, browsing)" or "5% for 6 hours" I can't understand how?
Comparing to old Desire my DZ have poor battery performance. But the specs tells it must be much better.
I'll publish my battery usage stats after some days. Maybe it'll be useful.

And a really "geek" method here quoted from cyanogenmod issue:
Comment 27 by david.j.erickson, Aug 19, 2010
Now, I was still having abnormal drain on my battery. As suggested in the Wiki and also confirmed in another cyanogenmod post, clearing the battery stats can help. I followed this procedure:
Fully charge the battery, says Full and 100% under Settings - About phone - Status.
Reboot into recovery, wiped battery stats. Phone still plugged in at this point.
Reboot into rom, checked to make sure battery was still Full and 100%.
Unplugged phone.
Killed it, used Maps on Wifi and messing around. Killed it in about 3 hours or so.
Tried turning it on a couple times to make sure it was *dead* dead. It still tried to boot, but couldn't complete without shutting off.
Plugged phone in, booted it up. It may be better to not turn it on until it is fully charged, but this is just what I did.
Let it charge overnight, next morning took it off charger since it was full.
I have noticed pretty good battery life since doing this. This morning on my bus ride in I pretty much constantly played some Storm8 games and used Listen with Bluetooth, was only down to about 82 or 84%, can't remember. This is on par with previous CM release for me.
Not sure why this rom in particular had so much worse battery drain out of the gate, and not just for me. Fortunately it seems correctable. Maybe if a few of you could give this a try and see if it improves your battery performance we could conclusively say battery calibration is the solution.

What about the flicker? Can anyone confirm that?
I have a UK (read: QWERTY) Desire Z, first batch.
I tried reprodocuing the flicker by lowering the brightness completely and looking at a blank white page in the internet browser. Couldn't see it. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.
That said, I'm not getting the great battery life that most seem to be getting, and the stats always show the Display as being the number one drain. HOWEVER, it doesn't seem quite as bad as you guys are saying.
Right now, it looks like this:
Unplugged for 18 hours and 16 minutes, battery at 36%
Display accounts for 41% of the drain
It has been on for 50 minutes.
(stock ROM, running an IM client 24/7, synced to three email addresses... Typoclock seems to use 2% of the battery every time as well, which seems relatively high for such an innocuous little widget)
Yeah. I have some slight flickering too, slight when low light set.
Uk stock.
I dont think high display percent is an issue too much reading cyanogen issue comments.if you use nothing but low cpu burden apps, display should eat most.
Also if i have it off, power is eaten by cell standby.
Im still hoping for a settled battery log mentioned in forums.
My 2 cents:
If I "use" the phone, I have to plugin it every night.
If I do not "use" it (nobody calls that day, no browsing or GPS (Just work!)), I plugin it every two day (ex. mon - wed - fri).
The display is always 65-80 % of the "drain problem".
Today the stats are:
7.30 am: full chargerd 100%
7.30 pm: display drains: 70% in 1h : 21m - battery at 20%
I leave automatic background gmail sync on (only daylight, I use the "Flight mode" overnight)
No bluetooth, no wifi, no gps, brightness 35-40%

No phone either.
I'm on a North American Desire Z and I see the display using 70%-80% of the battery when I have the display on for approximately two hours out of the day. I keep my display quite dim too, at 20% brightness.
I'm also running everything stock. No root, no custom ROMs, no anything.
Isnt display percentage actually the display driver cpu time eaten?its just a theoretical value isnt it, not watts gone? It seems obvious that its eating a lot as it refreshes all the time regardless of display light level.
My screen on is only 33% today, im sure its usually higher though. Maybe its due to me flashing stuff all day. Ill do a full charge tonight and report back Sunday.

Hi
Had my phone a little over 24 hours and I may have a very poor battery
I have a LIVE screen on the one with the water and the leaves plus, I haven't made or received any calls but I have used it a little for internet and a few text messages
The green bar was on full about 5 hours ago and if I had to guess how long my use has been I would say 30 mins in total of the 5 hours, now my battery is indicating less than half full
Imagine if I was out all day making and receiving calls?
Does this sound normal?
This is normal for the first week or two , the battery is adjusting itself to your needs
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's absolutely normal and you'll really notice a difference in about ten days, a couple of weeks the most.
That said, live wallpapers do use more battery. I much prefer a static dark one
adding to that make sure your phones nicely drained before recharging to ensure you get a nice full charge for next time... i took my desire's battery at least 5 days to start having a long term charge
bettery
same here took a week also what really helped me is having advanced task killer and setting it to kill unwanted apps after i lock the screen
i dont think you should use task killer, the apps will end them selves, i used task killer and got alot of force close after and errors etc
however force stopping unwanted applications is also good.

and now my battery is almost dead surely this cant be right
has anyone ever been given a replacement battery for their phone or do they ask for the phone to be returned if this is infact a fault
Battery sucks, phone is power hungry. Get used to it
I've had 2 desires since a week after it was released, i can count on one hand how many times I've got through a day without plugging my phone in.
I get about 2 days on my phone if I don't mess around with it a lot or get many calls. I normally plug it on overnight. Every night.
Nowadays that seems normal for a smartphone. Personally I think the battery life is slightly better than the iPhone 3GS.
Angry Birds means it lasts about 4-5 hours...
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
It's all down to how your using your phone. If you have a live wallpaper and many widgets and apps that run in the background like running in the notification bar, then yes, your phone will die pretty fast. Also it depends on how much CPU your burning. When I first got my Desire, I was like WTF. This is useless battery life and was starting to play hell. Now it's fine. I can leave it for 2 days easily if I just text or flick through settings. It just depends on what your running.
BTW, no one should have a task killer. It defeats the purpose of Android. You can get a lot of force closes and other things. Just leave them alone and let the OS handle the apps. Android does end the process if it's idle, eventually, but it's not using anything really other than a bit of memory just to keep it going a little.
As GoogleJelly pointed out, it really does depend on what you do with your phone and what's apps/processes are running on it while the device is using battery. Even I found the battery life pretty poor at the beginning...I found it quite annoying having to charge this thing nearly every day.
After some light tweaking, I managed to get the battery life to go over 3 days and I now have no reason to complain about my phone Mind you, I'm not a heavy user....As for background apps, I think i've got about 5/6 apps running at a time...
EDIT: I've attached a screenshot of my battery meter.....
What app are you using to view your battey history?
I also tested task killer when I got my phone. I thought it was fixing battery life, but after bedding the phone in a bit I took it off to see how much difference it would make and I didnt notice any difference at all...

I configured Quick Battery app to go to battery history from my phone settings every time I tap on it. You can view your battery history through:
Settings > About phone > Battery use.
If you want the graph, just tap on the top layer which shows the length of time you've been on battery.
EDIT: This works for Gingerbread based ROMs (it's the standard feature lol)...can't remember this being on Froyo.

This is irrelevant with Li-ion as this is a myth from the ages of NiMh batteries. Your battery will not get ruined if you don't discharge it completely before first charging.

Ah right, cheers for that. Didn't know it was all built in
One of the main reasons why new smartphone owners experience fast battery drain lies in the simple fact that they fill up seven homescreens with widgets that sync over mobile internet every hour or even more often, which really kills the poor juice like a massive gas leak.
After about half a year of use I've reached a stage where I use just 2 screens on my Desire (CM 6.1.1), of which page no2 is a full 4x5 agenda and Page one has just one actively updated widget (home weather).
Combined with restricting network usage of random apps by means of DroidWall and underclocking the processor at certain parameters (eg. battery <50%) the phone lives for 2 days pretty easily, with moderate browsing, music etc included.
But TBH I've really decided that the battery usage is absolutely random because some days it just drains like there's no tomorrow with no apparent reason that I've been able to identify. Carry a spare microUSB wire tbh :/
I read so much myths in this thread concerning Li-Ion batteries.
First of all Li-Ion batteries do have instantly the capacity they are intended for. Even 5 charges won't change that. The only thing which can change over time and charge-cycles is your phone recognizing a new voltage level as "full" (read more: "calibrating htc desire battery") or you playing less with the phone or having power-consuming apps uninstalled.
Also a full first charge is not necessary. This "requirement" are from past days with NiCd or NiMH battery-types.

The calibration during the initial week or so of using the phone arises from phone-side calibration, not the battery itself, which is why deleting battery stats from recovery can at times resolve battery issues :V
Phone didn't last half a day after flashing CM 6.1.1; after a couple of days I charged it to 100%, deleted the stats and voila, it's about as perfect as a terrible smartphone battery can get.
anyone come up with a list to enable/disable to improve battery?
I think the battery is already pretty phenomenal.

Yes it is always posted that high. I have also already tried the suggestion of completely draining the battery and charging to 100% twice now. Doesn't seem to help. This is not my first android phone so I have tried all the typical turn stuff off. I started with the hero and then went to the evo. Then jumped to verizon for thunderbold and now back on sprint for this phone obviously. So far this is the worst battery life I have had yet. Seeing what you guys are getting though gives me hope.
I have tried using spareparts to get more battery information but get a force close when trying to do that.
Man I know that battery results range pretty wildly, but I'm averaging 10% loss per 2 hours.
On launch day I was on it from about 3:30pm until about 10pm and only lost about 40%. And when I say on it, I bet the screen on time was 95% of that time.
So far, the battery life is one of my favorite things about this phone. First time I've felt comfortable enough to run a live wallpaper.

You are lucky then, If i use the phone I will loose 40% in about 2 hours no problem. Also if you are loosing about 5% an hour that will only give you about 20 hours total before your dead. I see people reporting they are getting over a day. Just don't see how. Are they just not using their phone at all.
What does everyone have there screen brightness to if not set to auto brightness? Also what is everyone's screen mode set to?

I have mine at manual and just under the A. I have the mode at standard.
What I do is look at my active app widget to make sure I have no apps running. It is nice being there. Messaging sometimes hangs, I have noticed that.

You SHOULD always when you get a new battery fully Drain it and then fully charge the battery with the device OFF. Thats what I did with my phone. I kept using it once I got it, it lasted around 5 hours before the phone shut off during a phone call. then when I plugged it in to charge, I plugged it in and did not turn it on and waited till it fully charged with the Blue Light. I dont know about the normal thing now adays with lithium ion batteries but you were always warned in the packaging to let your battery fully cyle its first cycle with no use at all. The cells in the batteries have a memory type of design and if you dont fully charge the battery you can prevent it from knowing its full capacity.
Now I dont know if this is true anymore with the new battery production of the manufacturers now may power cycle the batteries before they seal the whole package so the customers dont have to do it. Maybe why when you get your device the battery is around 50% now like mine came. I remember older devices you could not use your device until you fully charged the battery the first time.
About Screen Brightness, I learned from a Epic user that the best way to conserve battry usage was to always keep your Screen Brightness at 10% (Gotta love the Touchwiz Brightness Changing with the Top Notification bar, this device will not show the slider bar like Touchwiz 3.0 on the Epic but IT STILL WORKS!!!!). I have noticed that at the lowest brightness setting I can still see everything vividly enough to work with it and im getting over 24 hours with moderate normal usage (like only 1-3 5-10 minute phone calls, surfing the net, surfing for new apps) This is my first android phone. I also have had 4G turned off and Wifi off all this time as I have no way to access those right now. I also have GPS turned off because I havent needed to use it yet. I pretty much have everything but Basic needs turned on besides all the Factory default presets. I also Turned my screen mode to DYNAMIC, which seems to show more vivid colors like I use on my Samsung TV for my computer usage.
Now I turned off Live wallpaper and im using one of the preinstall basic Grey ones (the one with the asfault looking spot light) (I have been trying to hit the crazy benchmarks people are getting trying to find out why I am not getting the 93+mflops mine keeps hitting 80's) So I dont know what heavy usage is doing to my phone.
but then again this is only under 48 hours of ownage. My first full night off the charger was 1 day and 3hours before it said I was 5% battery life and I plugged it in.
this phone sucks, you will have a huge screen but with automatic lighting seems drawn on cardboard, the reception is crap, my girlfriend with a lg optimus one has 3 notches and I travel to 1 here in the bedroom. And the absolute most ridiculous thing is the battery, are practically forced to go out with this and the galaxy's, fortunately, not yet sold, it takes at least 2 refills daily. Check it out and tell me if it does not sell a phone like this ****.

Congratulations on a useless post.
If that's the only battery life you're getting then you should really look at how you have your device set up. I easily get 12-15 hours on heavy use and more than 24 hours on light use (moderate use is somewhere in between). I use auto brightness, and keep bluetooth, gps, and wifi turned on all the time. I have facebook syncing and push email going and I have no battery issues at all. I suggest you take a look at your device configuration and also you may need to calibrate your battery.

so you are suggesting to turn wifi, bluetooth and gps on all the time for better battery life? really?
Mine is currently on 1day and 7hours on battery, still with 30% left. You need to set it up properly mate..

Nowhere in what I posted did I say that. Try reading with understanding next time. What I said was I have everything turned on and I still get good battery life, so if yours is lacking perhaps you should take a look at how your device is configured. That a bit clearer for you?....
OP, your post has made my day today!
However battery life depends on how your device usage is. People with carefully set usage patterns can extract the most. For e.g. I use Locale to set a certain profile at night that switches off wifi, data usage, etc. That is one way to maximise battery life.
Edited your title to be proper.

ah i see so how is ur device configured exactly? are you rooted? because im not getting good battery life neither
I'm having similar battery issues, a heads up on how to set up the phone for a better battery life would be very much appreciated.

Okay let me further clarify myself. When I say look at how your device is configured I mean look at what you have running. Do you have things syncing frequently in the background? Do you have apps installed that constantly wake the device? How many background apps are you running at once. I don't have any special configuration on my device. I have everything turned on as far as bluetooth, wifi, and gps. I use push email, facebook set to sync every 4 hours, weather set to sync every 6 hours, google reader set to "download frequently viewed feeds every hour", currents set to sync every 6 hours in the background (wifi only). With those settings my battery life is pretty good. When I'm not using my phone is drains between 2-2.5% battery per hour, that should give you a bit of a point of reference for what you should be getting when idle. Here's an app here I stumbled across that can show you what's waking your device http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 Hope this helps you out.
Battery is pretty good to me, under normal usage easily over 24hours.
I have had no problems with my battery or screen, not sure where your setup went wrong but listen to the posters before me and less ranting and maybe you'll make the best out of an awesome device
My battery is great! Better than any other smart phone iv used, signal is great swell and the screen is awesome
I love this phone lol

I see in your screenshot the GPS and the screen were on for most of that time.
And by "on" I mean the GPS was really on with a fix, not just "on standby" and ready to be automatically activated when a program requests it.
No phone I have ever owned has ever got more than about 4 hours from the battery when I have been using the GPS. The simple fact of the matter is the battery will discharge very quickly when using GPS. That's not a fault of the Nexus, that's just how it is.
Bad battery?
That screenshot shows you've been absolutely caning the **** out of your phone. Nothing will have a good battery life with usage like that.

QFT. Almost half of it has been screen on, GPS on. No phone can stand up to that for long.
Cool story.

Hi,
On my One-X battery meter is completely inaccurate. Sometimes it sits for hours on one value (e.g. 90%) and then suddenly drops (with no CPU/data activity whatsoever) to for example 80%. This results with very jerky battery use graph (attached mine). I am on 1.29.401.7 and done multiple full discharge/charge cycles, but it does not make any difference.
I have never seen such bad battery meter behavior on any other Andoid phone. Have you got similar problem?
I have the exact same problem actually.
Same here. It's as if it doesn't update the battery meter when it's in sleep (fifth core running). I suspect it's because of the T3 architecture and power management. As soon as you wake it, after maybe a minute, it updates the battery status...
Mines does it. Can sit on a %age for an age then with little use it will plummet.
@Op,
No I didn't notice such a problem on a unrooted One X and with no modifications running the latest OTA update 1.29.401.11.
Did you play with battery apps or did you modify something yourself which could cause this issue? Did you investigate what could cause it?
How long do you have your device, did you install apps? Can you provide more info about it maybe? Do you softreset your device?
Did the problem exist when you bought the device?
Thanks.
So it must be general problem then. It happens to me not only in sleep mode, but when browsing the web, etc.
I think these sudden percentage jumps and meter inaccuracy also contribute to all these battery life complains from various people. I was personally shocked when after a few minutes of web browsing battery dropped instantly from 30 to 20%. It looks like crappy battery, but in fact seems to be just dodgy meter...

I have got the phone for almost a week now and I am pretty sure this problem has been there from the very begining. I initially though this is because a couple of full charge / discharge cycles are required to calibrate the meter, but it did not make any difference. My phone is not unlocked, no mods or battery apps. I did not try soft reset though.
It looks to me that meter is somehow not updating during the sleep. When device wakes from sleep, after a couple of minutes value drops significantly. This problem is probably a reason for various false claims that One X does not consume a single percent of battery during the overnight sleep.
Yeah, i have the same thing. Sometimes my battery drops about 2 or 3 percent at once, sometimes 10 percent...pretty annoying.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm new to Android but I do have some Windows Mobile experience.
It's weird to me seeing people having such problems because I realy don't experience it.
My battery meter is constant, also after a night sleep.
Maybe it's because I use my device different as others I don't know, it's strange to see all these reports in XDA forum as the One X to my opinion is a very cool device.
Maybe you could try some battery percentage apps and see if it realy is that insufficient?

I used your excellent ROMs on my HD2 in dark WM6.5 ages . I am glad to see you here with One X!
I installed Battery Meter Widget and (if the readings are correct), my One X consumes about 10-15mA during the sleep with Wifi and 3G on. I will keep an eye on the percentage.
Don't get me wrong - besides of erratic GPS and dodgy battery/power management problems, I really love this device.
I really wished that international One X version was based on S4 SoC (superb GPS with GLONASS and great power management as S4 is a 28nm chip). It is such a shame that dodgy Tegra 3 ruins this excellent device...
Hello, maybe this behaviour is only due to the voltage sampling/display ...
Someone here says the native battery app was only at 5% precision at display
and it looks like it updates in long time samples too ( 5 minutes ? ) ...
Knowing that Li-Ion goes from 3600 mV ( 0% ) to 4200 mV ( 100% ),
it means 600 mV of voltage variation from empty to full, with 1 mV precision.
So 1 millivolt is 0.2% of battery charge.
The display should be really more precise if all voltage precision was used.

looking at that screenshot you have posted the sudden drops appear to be perfectly aligned to the 'screen on' or 'awake' periods so the most likely (and obvious) cause is that using the phone causes most battery use. I have seen this with many phones, I think its normal. Being in standby doesnt use much power at all but lighting the massive 4.7" screen and running a quad core processor does, so when you use the phone it uses loads more juice... thats my analysis anyway

No, this is different. Drop in fact seem to be related to wake up from deep sleep, but the point is that this drop is massive and instant i.e. battery instantly drops from 30 to 20, bypassing all other percent states in between. Also, I am sure battery state does not update properly in deep sleep in many cases. At some point I left my phone for almost a day alone (wifi, 3g, Gmail and exchange sync, etc) and it did not lose a single percent, but as soon as started using it I observed instant 20% drop.

And I have even worse problem, can anyone help me?
Take a look at my thread (not highjacking yours, just want some help too), my current widget never reads a real value AFAIK.
It stay with -850 for more than an hour at times...
And my battery life is dismal...
So this means that seeing no battery discharge throughout the night in sleep mode isn't due to excellent power saving feature of the companion core but is in fact poor battery meter?
And yes, my One X shows fast and huge discharge (3-5% at once) when I use after being in long sleep mode

I think it too. Phone on sleep with data and sync on for 1 or 2 hours and % don't change. Use it for 2 min. and it suddently goes down by 5/10%
In my opinion the battery meter lacks of accuracy. This brings to inaccurate real time current calculations and wrong information about what's consuming power when we use it. That's bad!
I'm also seeing these big drops. For me it seems to happen between 100%-60% battery, battery level will drop anything from 5%-10% chunks at a time. After 60%, it does seem to be more stable and drop in 1-2% increments.
I've recalibrated the battery through CWM a couple of times but still get this issue.
It almost seems like there's a bug in the code that is causing the fuel gauge to not update.
I can tell you this, I modified other HTC phones battery driver. The nexus one driver for example updates volt, percent, temp, every 50 seconds while the screen is on. When off the sample poll changes to 10 minutes per update. This is real easy to see in the driver code, and you can filter dmesg log for "batt" and see the time stamps do in fact match this.
But the one x looks to be getting hung up on that part. Anyone know if kernel code has been released yet?
