Cm9 Qpst diagnostic mode for swapping prl? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to get my epic running Cm9 rc1 in diagnostic mode so I can swap out PRLS Without having to flash Stock? If not, is there a way to quickly switch between firmware? I think there was a way to load firmware off the sd card but I forgot what it was called. thanks all :cyclops:

Flash Back to Stock with a Broken USB

I need to return this phone back to Samsung to repair my broken USB. But I need to flash it back to unroot it and flash it back to stock.
I have no USB capabilities whatsoever.
I have tried Mobile ODIN but this phone model is not currently supported or it doesn't detect the model.
I have been reading for hours now and I have not found a definitive solution that works for this phone.
Does anyone have any advice?
Does anyone know where I can find this?

He was linking to a flashable stock rom, kernel and recovery. The link is now gone... But this is what I need. something flashable since USB is gone.
Maybe someone knows how to make stock flashable? Or if anyone has a backup that is fully stock everything and is willing to help me out that would also be awesome.
Please please please please please!!! I need help!

You can use FUS Downloader to get the odin flashable tars or use the links provided below. I recommend you use fus downloader if you can, as it has faster download speeds though.

I should have it ready to download soon, I'm just adding the stock recovery and then i should be able to upload. I'll update this post when it's up and tested.
EDIT : It flashed me completely to stock without error, but it came out as 351MB so i need to find a new place to upload. Shouldn't be too much longer.
EDIT 2 : I have it uploading to Dev-Host now and should be up in about 30mins.
EDIT 3 : Uploaded here.
Well this has been quite the horrible week. I want to thank you for your work... Unfortunately it seems that I have lost root. In one of my previous attempts to go back to stock I flashed an unroot tmobile rom and it seems I'm now stuck with that and now unrooted. I'm guessing I'm screwed since there is no way to root without usb...
I want to shoot myself in the face...
Samsung is going to get a Telus S2 back with a Tmobile rom on it. There's no way they'll fix it now right?

It depends, do you still have a custom recovery? Also I know one-click root worked on Telus's Gingerbread rom so maybe a tool like that might work.
Well it's stock recovery now... And would one click work without usb?

have you tried to download su to see if maybe you just need to load that back up on your phone. If not there are programs like adbd Insecure adb wifi and goo manager that may somehow be able to get you back.
adbd Insecure - will allow you to push files over to your system even without root access
adb wifi - incase you need to send a recovery over to your sdcard and then use the proper commands to install
goo manager - has twrp 2.2.2.0 in it so if you install that program you flash their recovery through the app.
put the factory zip on your sdcard and hopefully voila!
Just some choices - hope one works and good luck

i just tried adbd on my own phone(since i never flashed back cm10 yet) and unfortunately when i start the app it asks for superuser.
Thanks for the replies! I'm gonna try goo manager right now...
But would something like this work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719
Update: Goo Manager isn't really doing anything unfortunately... It won't install anything I download. Seems simple enough so I'm sure I'm not doing anything wrong there...
Update #2: Yes. All of the above seem to need root, and since I don't have root...
Thank you playya for the sugesstions!
Thank you namanjr for doing that work... I wish I had waited longer to flash the rom I did!
I think its game over. I've been trying for a week and there's not a lot of options to flash stock, root/unroot if your USB is broken... which seems ridiculous to me but it is what it is...

My bad you do need root but damn goo won't let you flash recovery without root huh. Are you sure you can't put recovery image on sdcard and use adb wifi to send command to install recovery? Just thinking out loud

I don't think that will work, i used normal ADB to reinstall TWRP and it wouldn't flash until i used su.

It can flashed OTA updates, signed zips/md5s, wipes cache partition, and factory restore. I tried the ODIN md5 file for stock and it never worked so unless someone cracks/or knows Samsungs signature i don't think it's much use. Also if you flash a rom for anything other then phones that are compatible with ours(I727, I717, etc), you will brick.
Hmmm... and I'm assuming there isn't somewhere you can download the official samsung OTA updates?

Need help, super confused. Virgin Moble SG2 4G

Hi people. Alright, so im NOT new to Clockworkmod or cyanogenmod but this GS2 4G is ridiculous..... I flashed Optiums V / Motorola Triumph....etc in the past.
I need some clarification please.
My specs:
Virgin mobile SG2 (4g)
Hardware version D710
Software version GB28
Android version 4.1.2
Kernel version 3.0.31-1014481
I AM ROOTED
1) Can I use a Clockworkmod Recovery for this phone? If so, where and how? If not, is Odin how we flash to different roms?
2) How do you create a current backup of your current rom????? WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!!!!!!!
3) Since I have GB28, do I have to worry about flash to other Roms with different numbers or does that not even matter?
4) May be stupid...Can I unlock this cell. I know.... has no sim. Also, how can I get the MSL number. The normal ways cant find it. Even VM said they dont have it....liars I think.
5) Can I get JB 4.2.2 on this??
Thanks!!!!
Also, I do have Odin on my cell and my pc with the Samsung driver

OK so Odin is how you root and flash stock ROMs. Umm the Clockworkmod is a recovery look for agats Kernel which will have your recovery it won't be Name branded clockwork mod but it is like CWM.
2) How do you create a current backup of your current rom????? WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!!!!!!!
So how you do your backups is through CWM. You can choose to either backup to Ext. SD or Internal SD. If you have agats or CWM you
3) Since I have GB28, do I have to worry about flash to other Roms with different numbers or does that not even matter?
I'm not sure what you mean by that.

I'm sure you can get this phone unlocked. I just don't know how to do that. Yes you can get MSL you need terminal emulator. What are the ways you've tried to get msl?
5) Can I get JB 4.2.2 on this??
Yes you can get JB 4.2.2 it won't be stock TW though. You will need to flash a ROM though. There are plenty out there you just need to figure out which will be best for you.
Thanks!!!!

you can get youre msl by installing a terminal emulator and type in...''su''without quotes/hit enter..then type...''getprop ril.MSL''without quotes and msl with caps..should work.. if not try an app from playstore.. as far as cwm goes..with our device the recovery is tied to the kernel. So you will need to flash a new kernel..Im not sure if the gb27 kernel will boot with youre rom..but im guessing it will because its 4.1.2. if youre brave you can use mobile odin to flash it..you can get mobile odin lite here on xda or playstore and all youre kernel, modem, etc. at rwilco's repo in the android development thread, top 3 post...as far as roms go... there are somr virgin mobile roms, im not sure if others will work as i have boost, but i would think its fine..you will have to change youre apn's to get data/mms after you flash a rom..because it will be sprint everything..So get you msl and check all youre apn settings and write them down..you can flash roms from the safe cwm recoveries made by members, but it is usually advised to flash from el26 or the el29 direct boot kernel.Or you can use odin..google qbking77..he makes the best vids for this device and odin..Read the op well of the rom youre looking to flash......I would do some more research as im not sure about this virgin mobile deal..but im pretty sure you should be ok..There is all kinds of guides in this forum..its the best ive been in on xda in my opinion..good luck.....Ill dig around and see if i can come up with a definitive answer for ya.......there is a space between getprop and ril.MSL...

@hondais1 ...ok ive looked around...you should be able to flash whatever you want...by the way 4.2.2 roms are in the original develolpment thread and you will need an ics modem on jb roms...the op will tell you the preferred flashing instructions.. if you need more help i can link you to a step by step i put together for using mobile odin to flash roms...fyi...most roms come with a custom kernel..
---------- Post added at 10:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 AM ----------
@hondais1 here is the link to my write up... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2418320 ... Post 5 is where you want to look in that thread.. There are links to the repo and a link for a lite version of mobile odin here on xda..just install the mobile odin apk. with a file browser, you will need to check unknown sources in settings..good luck..
Getprop msl doesn't work in GBxx roms
Nor do any of the play store apps.
What worked for me was flashing the FI03 toolbox and then running getprop.
Instructions and links in this thread.
As far as roms go, I'm on Virgin Mobile as well and I've run the Sprint GB27 based ones with no problems at all.
Though as Gil81 pointed out you will have to edit your MMS settings using the ##DATA# dialer code along with your MSL.
Also, the lock screen and carrier information in settings>about phone>status will say 'Sprint' instead of 'Virgin Mobile'.
I haven't been brave enough to try, but I also suspect the Profile and PRL updates won't work on a GB27 rom so I'd update those prior to mucking around with any non GB28 based rom.

Looking for stock restore, GS3 i747 4.3

Hello, I have been here all night trying to recover my GS5 i747, I have TWRP but my phone does not seem to work with Micro SD cards, I was getting a blank SD error when it worked just fine in other phones. Does anyone here have a stock rom I can restore via Odin and be done with this once and for all? Apparently the phone is now wiped and I can only access TWRP and nothing else.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much, so are you saying that it's now safe to directly use Odin to downgrade to 4.1 from 4.3 OTA?
I've been reading a lot of warnings against that, and the highest Sam has is 4.1
What precautionary measures would I need to take?

You can't use Odin if you were already on 4.3 prior to losing your OS. Any attempt to flash 4.1.1 via Odin may result in a hard brick. Since you still have TWRP, use instructions and zip file in the thread below to restore your system to stock 4.3. Hope this works for you ....

Yes, a long delay is not unusual after a firmware restore. Usually, however, this can be avoided or limited if you wipe the cache/dalvik after the restore operation.

Don't try to downgrade it with Odin. You will brick your device.
You can also try this, I didn't try it but I guess it should work. If you're not sure what you're doing, don't try it.

[Q] Galaxy S3 softbricked

So after flashing a ROM that was from before 4.4.2, I had been unable to restore it to anything I had before. I thought I had made a backup but I guess I accidentally erased my SD card in CWM. So now I'm stuck with recovery and download mode. Using ODIN I've tried flashing a 4.3 stock ROM but it didn't work and I've been unable to find a current ROM that I can use in ODIN or find a way to push a zipped rom through to my internal SD card while in download/recovery. Can anyone help me here? I don't even need it to be on stock I just need a way to get my phone up and running again. I've been working on this all night and still havent been able to find what I need.
The simplest method may be to get an external SD card, copy a custom ROM to the card, boot into download mode, flash a custom recovery via Odin (I highly recommend Philz Touch), reboot into recovery, and flash a custom ROM from your external SD card.

I got a ROM to work, but now I have no network access. Wi-Fi works okay though. When I hit Mobile Networks in Settings it says "Insert SIM card to access network services." I read a little about this and I think I have to flash the radio, but I'm not able to find one. Maybe someone could provide a link? And I just flash that in ODIN also, right?

I flashed a modem matching the MJB firmware. Still nothing. Ive been reading about maybe it needs a different kernel, or something to do with the EFB so Ive thought about using EFB Professional to wipe the stats.... I havent even tried doing a fresh install through KIES but im wary to mess it up again
Install terminal emulator from the play store and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
This will tell you your base firmware/bootloader version. Your modem will need to match this.

You need the NE4 modem no matter what you run. Nothing else will work.
If you use a 4.3 rom you will need the MJ2 or kt747 kernel though.

I think it would too if the codes would work:
2) Dial *#7284# and select "Qualcomm USB Settings" then check "RMNET + DM + MODEM".
The above code does nothing on synergy rom, and I can't odin back to stock since I am on the updated bootloader.

Thats a step closer, it will bring up a menu now, but not corresponding to the guide. It says "Service" at the top and gives me the option to switch between MTP or MODEM. I tried switching to MODEM but QPST still won't detect it.
